Sweet Tooth (2021)
Yet another...
...show on Netflix that started off with a good first season but then followed up with a second season that was, to be frank, such a mess that it would have been kinder to everyone if it was canned before anyone was ever allowed to see it.
Whilst season one was watchable in that there seemed to be a reasonably cohesive storyline, the main characters were likeable and there was enough happening to make one want to watch the next episode as well as the next season - season two was an entirely different proposition. After the first episode I was already starting to wonder what the writers had done to the storyline. What was happening about Gus and Big Man? I stopped caring by the end of episode two. 15 minutes into episode three and I had given up. It seems that Netflix now only have new shows worth watching for one season only.
If you are completely new to the show then by all means try the first season as it is an enjoyable watch but don't expect there to be an ending as it has gone AWOL, thanks to season two.
Barbarians (2020)
S1: Brilliant; S2: Garbage
Another Netflix show that had a great S1 that was utterly ruined by a S2 that was so bad it was extremely difficult to believe that they can possibly be related.
The captivating visuals, along with the attention given to the small details made the show so much more immersive and watchable. Where S1 did great things from a storyline that kept me interested all the way through from start to finish, it left me eagerly awaiting a follow up that would trace Germanicus' campaign.
Instead S2 turned to...well, I have no idea what story it was trying to tell - utter, utter, garbage. How can the scriptwriters create something that worked so well follow up with something so unbelievably bad? Such a massive shame and wasted opportunity.
S1: 9
S2: 3.
Russian Doll (2019)
Oh dear... how? Why?
Watching S1 was a delight. New, funny, refreshing, hooked... loved all of it. 10/10
Watching S2 was really painful. Confusing, not funny, dire, dreadful, catastrophic failure. 0/10
How can something so good turn into something so excruciatingly bad? Having waited so long for S2 it was such a massive shame and disappointment that it has been so completely ruined.
That said, I really liked Natasha Lyonne in this.
Das Boot (2018)
Surprisingly good
Like many others, I am a huge fan of the original movie - but didn't watch this series with the expectation of a sequel or accurate TV remake of the original.
The first few episodes were not exactly stellar but the later episodes did actually get me hooked and, by the time I got to the end of the last episode, I wanted more.
