One Night (2016)
A Breakout - Not a Break Up
1 Night – a new release from a new director – provides insight into what a repairing relationship looks like – whether the couples are young, middle aged, or older. Our story starts with two couples who are spending the evening in a hotel, talking about how their relationship should be and used to be. Incorporating some witty banter and drama here and there, this character driven romance is an innovative, relatable independent film that outdoes the work of some major blockbusters.
Including stars like Anna Camp and Justin Chatwin, Isabelle Fuhrman and Kyle Allen contribute performances that are mature and unique, giving us an ageless representation of the human heart through adolescence and adulthood. This sophisticated plot is executed by Yale graduate, writer, and director Minhal Baig, Jesse M. Feldman (cinematographer of 500 Days of Summer), and a slew of other amazing cast and crew.
With French music and a beautiful aura around the whole set, a genuine experience is had while watching this movie. Accomplishing what most romance films fail at, Minhal Baig is quickly becoming a successful dramatic filmmaker who will break your heart, pick up the pieces, and glue all back together again. Hand me the tissues and a hotel reservation – it's time to fall in love.
