1899 (2022)
There is no jeopardy when it's not real
Lots of running around for nothing.
Once it becomes obvious that this is not reality the jeopardy is lost so all the tense acting and suspenseful music in the world cannot help mask the absurdity. The dialog got more ridiculous as the series went on and frankly I'm amazed I stayed with it till the end.
They even have the temerity to set up a second series that can only be exactly the same as the first except we know from the off that it's not real and therefore why should we care.
I understand this got public funding to make! If I were that public I would be demanding my money back.
The outro music is the only reason I've given it 2 stars.
The Old Man: VII (2022)
Started strong then fell apart.
Watch this until he doesn't shoot Zoe, then watch something else because the whole story falls apart at that moment. The Zoe character should have been nothing more than a pit stop but she transformed from sad divorcee into fully trained operative with a skill for blackmail overnight. This completely undermined Jeff Bridges character which switched the emphasis away from him and to his badly cast (not) daughter. Did anyone work out how old an infant child in the mid 80's would be now? She played the part as if she was late 20's rather than late 30's.
The second half of the series is then just backstory and the inevitable "twist" which became obvious in ep.6. With no resolution. Ep.7 was a disaster.
Real shame as this had a lot of potential.
Stranger Things (2016)
A great call back to my youth.
I'm 53. Whether they meant it or not, I'm the target audience for this superb bit of nostalgic nonsense. It ticks all my boxes as did Super 8.
Not a single drug dealing money laundering multiple murderer in sight and all the better for it.
Severance: What's for Dinner? (2022)
What's for dinner?
A big plate full of tease!
Great episode. This show is a master craft in leaving you wanting more. So little each week but absolutely engrossing. I imagine nobody who watches this as a box set will be able to stop before the season finale.
Against the Ice (2022)
Jamie Lannister goes north of the wall!
It's a perfectly serviceable movie without the usual hyperbole. The acting and cinematography are fine. Based on a true story so a little slow at times but well worth watching.
