Ouija House (2018)
I think they made this up as they went along
Non existent plot, terrible dialogue, dumb characters, direction has no pace and fails to create tension or a sense of dread.
Mischa Barton was obviously too expensive to have in most of the film.
Wounds (2019)
WTF!
I had literally no idea what was supposed to be happening. Nor I suspect did the cast, crew, director or writers who must have consumed as much booze as Arnie Hammers character does during the film before they wrote the screenplay.
Don't waste your time it really is that bad!
Texas Chainsaw 3D (2013)
Interesting take on the TCM story
The good
Production values. I liked the cast. The ending, definitely not what I expected and more the better for it.
The bad
The Sherrif's wig in the opening part of the film.
Verdict
Of it's kind d it's pretty good. I'd watch it again.
The Unspoken (2015)
Pretty good
The good
Photography, sets, acting, story
The bad
Not much.
Verdict
Not what I thought it was going to be, an interesting twist on the standard "nobody has lived in the house for years ...." film.
Annabelle: Creation (2017)
Much better than it should have been
The good
Photography, sets, some nice scares. The young cast are excellent especially the two younger members.
The bad
Story is a bit contrived but in this kind of feature it can be forgiven.
Worth watching.
Jessabelle (2014)
Some nice scares but ultimately...
The good
Photography, sets, acting is above average for this kind of feature. Some well done set pieces.
The bad
The ending makes no real sense. It left me with a "what? why did ...? But she was ...? Eh?" Feeling rather confused and ultimately cheated by lazy writing by the screenwriters.
A Most Violent Year (2014)
Anti climax
The good
The acting is top notch.
The orange and teal grade looks fantastic.
Photography is excellent.
The bad
Fails to deliver the tension or climax it threatened to early on.
As the credits rolled I was left with a "was that it?" Feeling somewhat cheated.
The Quiet Ones (2014)
Dreadfully boring
The good
Nicely recreated 70's vibe. Clothes, cars etc.
The bad
Pretty much everything else.
Character development virtually nil. Nothing happens for over an hour, then suddenly one of the characters goes off to a library and finds out the truth, tells the rest of the cast in a 3 minute scene and then there are some loud sound effects and a few cheesy alpha keyed flames and it's all over.
It was a nice idea that desperately needed someone who understands plotting to reel the audience in and drip feed the plot strands so the viewer goes on the journey of discovery with the cast.
Verdict
Don't bother
