Introducing... Janet (1981)
Cute debut film for Jim Carey
"Introducing Janet" is a cute CBC TV movie from 1981. Although Jim Carey is not the star, as the vhs/dvd packaging (under video title Rubberface) would have you believe, he is a solid supporting character. This is not the laugh-out-loud comedy sensation that most were expecting, hence the negative reviews. I just revisited this after first seeing it on vhs 25 years ago and I was not disappointed. It's a very light story but it has a lot of heart, not to mention it provides a glimpse of some impressions that Carey started his career with. If you temper your expectations with what you're getting, it's an enjoyable film, especially at a brisk 48 minutes!
Miss Match (2003)
I miss 'Miss Match'!!!
I, like many on IMDb, was shocked and severely disappointed when this excellent, and ultimately TV-too-good-for-TV show was cancelled by NBC. However, I am thankful for 2 things: First-I was smart enough to tape each episode (on ep mode however) because Alicia is my most FAVORITE actress and my #1 crush since I was 13, and Second-the W network here in Canada is airing the entire series run, including the originally unaired episodes. Now that I have a PVR and a DVD burner, I plan to digitally record each episode, chuck my old cassettes, and have the next-best-thing to an official release. I just watched an episode for the first time in a while and I am pleasantly reminded how cool, breezy and sexy the show was. I would love to see it turned into a movie with the original cast returning. That would be great!
King Kong (2005)
The most AMAZING movie I have EVER seen!
I saw King Kong at a free promo preview screening last night. It left me absolutely awestruck, and being a huge movie buff all my life, that's saying a lot. Despite knowing the basic plot of Kong after seeing it so much growing up, I was absolutely riveted and found myself at the edge of my seat so many times! King Kong is a sumptuous feast for the senses, especially the eyes. The CGI effects are the most gorgeous and lifelike that I have ever seen. You could swear King Kong was really there! Because of this, Kong is more expressive and can actually emote, giving him a personality that you can really sympathize with. Peter Jackson has crafted a wonderful triumph of a film that must be seen to be believed!
