Ridiculousness (2011)
Not funny
5 minutes and 1,000 Chanel cackle-laughs later was more than enough. There's nothing funny about people getting hurt. Nothing funny about infantile "jokes" from no-talent hosts.
The Curse of the Werewolf (1961)
Great movie, but...
Maybe it's just me, but there's one thing that detracts from the movie and is laughable. The movie is set in a village in Spain, the guy protecting the goats name is Pepe, he refers to the mayor(?) of the village as senor... and everyone else ALL have distinct English accents!
A goof...
When Pepe sees the wolf running into the herd of goats, it's running with it's tail curved up - wolves run with their tales down. When they show him looking down at the dead wolf, it's a Golden Retriever still breathing.
Extraterrestrial (2014)
Painful
It's bad all around. It's as if someone took the worst SciFi movies of the 70s, cut out the good parts then mashed the leftovers into this.
Worth watching if you only get 1 channel. There's a lot of reasons it only cost $3,000,000 to make this.
Poltergeist (2015)
I have probably seen worse...
If I hadn't seen this, I would not have missed anything. There was nothing special about this movie, it was just flat with no emotion.
I give it 3 stars because the CGI effects were good. Sadly, like almost every remake of a memorable movie, this is definitely forgettable, I hope.
Mercenaries (2014)
So bad
One of the worst movies going. The acting is average and below, the story bizarre, the effects terrible. Parts are laughable - like when they open the back of a delivery van and see 2 "missiles" laying side by side with a lot of room all around them... When the camera comes in on them, the nose cones are visibly shaking and look like they were made of aluminum foil. They say they're 2 ICBMs with a 5000 mile range with nuclear warheads. Those warheads alone would be bigger than the missiles. Add to that, the "missiles" are to small to carry enough fuel to even get off the ground. The fight scenes are nearly comedic - one of the ladies fighting 4 - 5 guys that are armed, weapons in hand and far enough away that they could easily blow her away... But she wins. I give it one star because the part with the missiles made me laugh.
Sleeping Beauty (2014)
Bad, bad, bad... and boring
The acting, taking into account the script was terrible, was not bad for what they were given. It's a difficult one to sit through given the pace of this movie was painfully slow, the music about as lively as a funeral dirge, and special effects created by someone not familiar with computer animation. The rising of the dead from their graves was truly laughable as the bodies were immediately visible when they moved their arms. It must have been too hard to dig a more realistic looking graveyard. It's hard to imagine that this movie is duller than Sophie's Choice - a 3+ hour torture fest. This movie should be placed in an archive somewhere and forgotten. Better still, just destroy all copies of it and forget that it ever existed. I believe that it's a very bad sign when the stars are part if one family, dad and 3 daughters. It gives the impression that this was the only way the producers could acquire enough actors to fill all the parts.
Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome (2012)
So bad...
Graphics are decent, best so far. The movie... to say it was bad would be giving it too much credit. Everything about this movie was predictable, from start to finish. The only real surprise is that it made it out of production and was put out for audiences to suffer through. The original series set the bar very high, unfortunately, when the series was brought back, none of what made it interesting and worth watching was brought back with it. They have taken a very good science fiction series and turned it into a romantic drama set in space. Harlequin could come up with a lot better than this. With a little luck they will let the show die in peace, instead of the continual flogging of a dead horse.
Super Cyclone (2012)
Worst of the worst
It would be unfair to bad movies to rank this among them, but the choice for "0" stars is not an option. Most of the actors are good, but every one of them put in an incredibly bad performance in this movie. The writing was terrible, sounds like the script was done as part of an assignment by a grade 10 drama class student that was failing. The graphics were so bad that it boggles the mind that this abomination was ever released for viewing. Even more incredible is that people are charged for viewing it. Special effects are dreadful as well with things like a shipping, then a bit later an SUV, are picked up, spun around and then put back in the ocean and back on the road so gently that nothing broke or fell off from the impact and none of the actors are even mildly shaken by the experiences. The oil platform is listing badly, the word is given that they are capsizing and need to correct the situation immediately. Guy gets up and his chair rolls down to the side of the room, then, as the platform is nearing level (but still listing) the chair roles back to its original place, uphill!
Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation (2004)
What's the fuss?
It must really suck to be one of the people writing all the bad reviews, complaints about every detail of any given movie. I suppose that if being a movie critic is your job, then you must truly believe your trifling is of some benefit to someone, somewhere in the universe. I don't believe it is, but that is just my opinion.
Starship Troopers 2 never made any claims to being a great movie with millions invested in special effects, original music, or location filming around the globe. This movie is about entertainment, and it provides that in spades. When I watch a movie, my only reason for doing so is that I want to be entertained. At the end of the movie, if I can say that I was entertained, then the movie did what it was intended to do. At the end of ST2, I felt very well entertained so, to me, the movie was great.
I have always valued the decisions we are permitted to make in life, like being able to turn off or switch channels on the TV, or to be able to leave the theatre if I don't like the show. With ST2 I felt no desire to turn it off. The actors were good, the story interesting and the visuals were good. The film is a lot of fun because it is interesting. Obviously, the movie does not stack up well against much more heavily financed films, but for a $7,000,000 budget it did very, very well.
To the critics, yes, special effects, original music scores, and an all- star cast may have made it a better visual experience. Then again, maybe not. Even some very big budget films are total failures. Why? Quite simply, they fail to entertain and become tedious and boring. You cannot honestly say that ST2 became tedious or boring. It was very entertaining all the way through. What more can you ask of a movie?
If you like the genre and want to feel entertained, then this movie is for you. If you only are able to enjoy the movies that are critically acclaimed, then either find the critics that rate entertainment for what it is supposed to be, entertaining, or just move on.
