Children of Men (2006)
really, really bad - SPOILER
i really don't get why everybody in this forum thinks this is a great movie. it clearly isn't.
most of the acting is people babbling in a foreign language, the plot makes no sense and the film is too confusing.
the sci-fi is poor: 1) cars are barely better than today (2007), 20 years on. 2) guns are barely better than today 3) tvs are barely better than today
if you gonna do sci-fi, get a decent budget to do a good job.
simply horrible.
i have to admit that when i saw the trailer I was very curious to see the movie, and it couldn't have been worse.
i wonder whether the reviewers giving this movie 10 stars were on the strawberry cough that is shown through the movie?
Babel (2006)
nothing special
i had high hopes for this movie, despite the mixed reviews. the director has done at least one very decent film (amores perros) and the cast is top notch. but i left the movie theater disappointed as the 3 stories aren't really that relevant to each other and the movie gets tiring at times.
the morocco part is good and that's where the movie should have focused. the Mexican part is completely irrelevant. the Japanese story could also be a movie on its own if the director had explored the characters in more depth.
the club scene without sound is pretty good.
the movie deserved slightly more than 2 stars, but given that most users of IMDb are buying the hype and giving it 10 stars, someone has to try bringing this film back to where it belongs.
The Blue Planet (2001)
wonderful
full of surprises, beautiful, cruel at times. just like life itself. leaves one asking for more. the best parts are of course the action scenes and chases. have to really wonder how much work these guys put into making some scenes (whale chases, polar bear hunts, etc). it is a wonderful experience and not to be missed by anyone who dives, surfs, or goes to the beach once in a while. the music is enticing and the narration is superb and extremely well paced. definitively one of the best documentaries ever made and worth not less than a very respectable 10 (for its kind). some of the footage is very cruel and might not be recommended for people with weak stomachs (every killer whale footage is cruel).
