Oppenheimer (2023)
Must see film that puts you front row and center to the atomic bomb
"Oppenheimer" has you engaged right from the start. It's a cinematic history piece that makes you realize how much controversy went on during this time. It also made me realize how ground breaking actually building and designing the atomic bomb really was. The acting is superb, which didn't have me bored at any moment in this long movie. I feel the length was absolutely needed and can sometimes feel dragged out, but it was set up in a way where 3 hours went by in a flash. You might need to know a little bit about the history going in or you could be left wondering why some things are happening and who all the characters are. This was such a suspenseful movie that I just couldn't look away.
Candy Cane Lane (2023)
Fun loving and a breath of fresh air
"Candy cane lane" has Eddie Murphy at the star of the show. Every other character falls short in my opinion and can be "cringe" at times, but I have to remind myself this is a PG holiday movie, I'm not expecting an Oscar worthy performance by any means. It had me laughing at Murphys one liners and it's refreshing to see him back in the saddle acting again, even if it's just a holiday movie. I can see myself putting this in the rotation of an every year December movie to throw on, which is rare these days for these types of movies. The VFX are incredible and really is what put this movie in the 7 category for me.
Leave the World Behind (2023)
Wonderful cinematic experience that falls just short of being amazing
"Leave the world behind" gives you a heart racing, thrilling anxiety with amazing camera shots and a great soundtrack, but just doesn't answer enough questions that go through your head. Maybe that's the point? But I felt afterwards the feeling of wanting more. I never really look for plot holes and try to stay open minded, but this movie definitely had me scratching my head about some questionable things the characters would do. It tackles great acting and great directing, which Is what kept me strapped in for the ride. I love the unique concept, but I think watching this movie once will be enough for most.
