The Night Agent (2023)
Time suck
Watched the first episode and am probably done. Violence in the series is not supported by a well constructed narrative. And it is not enhanced by a less than charismatic lead actor. Pretty but vapid. And the Deputy Director . . . What's with that terrible wig that she can't act past. The last moment of the episode was the clincher. The baby-in-danger bit was lazy and manipulative. We've moved beyond that in other streaming series'. There are so many other worlds to spend time with. This one doesn't move beyond the typical network fare. The actors here that are competent are totally wasted. Find something else; there is plenty of worthwhile stuff out there. But this one to bed.
The Patient (2022)
A long journey to nowhere
This started out interesting enough, and tense enough, to pull us in. Luckily, the episodes were short. But Episode 10 . . . Not going to post a spoiler here, but we went through a lot only to land on an unsatisfying ending. The show is not without merit, but falls flat relying on undefined characters to bring the conclusion. Steve Carnell has shown himself to be a very versatile actor, equally good in both comedy and drama. If you like his work, you will appreciate what he does here. If you are not a fan, you should pass on this. There's not much else that's worthwhile. Serial killers can be such a drag.
The Man Who Fell to Earth (2022)
Darker Version of RESIDENTS ALIEN.
One of the best. People that complain about the slowness . . . Nobody said it was THE MAN FROM EARTH really, really fast! Is very rewarding if you don't have the attention span of a gnat (with all due respect). Writing is complex and multi-layered. Brilliantly cast. Great balance of science fiction, racial equity and politics, tinged with humor. Complicated viewpoints of survival, the state of the world, and humanity's struggle. It holds a mirror to us m, so we see what is front of us and behind. Not sure what people are looking for, but this is reflective and inspiring at the same time. And here are six more words.
Ten Percent (2022)
Not so much
Situations and story line almost identical. What is lacking is the rhythm and pacing of CALL MY AGENT. It doesn't have the sense urgency amid the chaotic nature of French version. As "pleasant" as Jack Davenport is, he is as lackluster and boring as he was in THE MORNING SHOW, and the director here is no help.
