Marple: At Bertram's Hotel (2007)
Plot vastly altered
As opposed to the comment I read about this title not being altered in substance from the novel, it is vastly altered. Only the killer was the same. Placing the time in post war England, and a wholly created Nazi sub plot is a wide diversion from the original. Very little remained of the original intricately woven plot lines remain. The very nature of one of the main characters (Beth Sedgewick) was completely altered, and several completely new characters created ( the companion for the heiress daughter) for no reason apparent to me. The young maid who acted as Miss Marple's alter ego was also pleasant, by more a convenient invention to make modernistic points. Agatha Christie's mysteries and plots (and Miss Marple) hold up just fine with without "updating"
Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (2006)
It was too good to survive. A Eulogy for Studio 60
It is funny, smart, articulate, and touched the heart all at the same time. So of course word is that is has been canceled! It ran so briefly before getting pre-empted several times, that it barely got seen, yet NBC saw fit to shoot it down, and will be putting on several live game shows and other reality garbage of that ilk. Worse than that, they now torture us with the last new episodes, so that we might be bereft when it is gone. I wish there was a way to save the show, but networks rarely let shows live long enough to find their audience. NBC barely let it run long enough for anyone to find it. I think the best episode was the "Disaster Show," and watching Allison Janey and former "West Wing" lover Tim Busfield work together. What a hoot. What a waste that such a clever show will be lost to TV history.
Breakfast Time (1994)
I still miss Breakfast TIme!!
I am so glad someone else remembers this show, and as fondly as I do! Whenever I see Tom Bergeron, I think of this fun and refreshing morning show, and wish it could be resurrected. It remained in my mind and drove me to search IMDb until I found the listing to remind me of the original title and just when it ran. I can't believe it has been 10 years! The uniquely 3 dimensional set, Tom B's free and easy nature, and the Friday Dance around the loft at the end of the show by whomsoever happened to be there that day, are all vivid memories. I would kill for tape of it, especially the premiere show. I was so sorry to see it go. I hope someone tries something like this again, someday, though I think it would not be the same without Tom Bergeron's particular brand of whimsy and humor.
