Mookuthi Amman (2020)
Hilarious rendition of God vs godmen
A refreshing take on devotional comedy. God knows we've had to live through bad VFX with the goddesses performing paltry magic tricks, insanely loud laughter and pet snakes popping out of nowhere. Glad Tamil Nadu is catching on with the trend of OMG in Bollywood. The movie is highly relatable to urban and rural audience in one neat little package. Every RJ Balaji dialogue in the movie reflects the candor and naiveite of a common man. Urvashi killed it with her quick wit and uncanny performance. The sister asking for a day's leave would resonate with every household. Finally, the god herself, Nayanthara's expressions with the BGM would put all heroes of TN out of business. The subtle hit on Christian missionaries in the name of schools, hospitals and prayer centers could have been more of a loud bang. Overall, the movie does not have one dull moment. Hope Kollywood dishes out movies like this for festivals like Diwali and Pongal rather than stereotypical hero worship movies.
Jojo Rabbit (2019)
A true masterpiece
If anyone could make a caricature of Adolf hitler, it must be Taika Waititi. An amazing movie that makes you feel happy and sad, makes laugh and still feel the depth of the pain and suffering that people were forced to endure. The kid was just perfect. You couldn't help but simply adore him for his innocence and ambition. Loved the movie. The best Nazi Germany movie, ever made!
City of Ember (2008)
Humanity lives in a pit with light bulbs
The movie begins with a bunch of old guys (hijacked from a random Irish pub to wear white coats in a conference room) apparently saving humanity by making them live in a pit for 200 years. Was Edison bulb the only invention that made sense while writing the script? The build a whole power generator and forget to make LED bulbs. The way they relate 'The Builders' with sort of a religious attribute is quite interesting. Overall, the movie would've fared way better with a better plot and direction caz the kids seemed to have done quite a fair job at acting.
The Hurricane Heist (2018)
Hurricane with a conscience!
Watch the movie if there's nothing good to watch on a weeknight. Hurricane summons a dark mark of Voldemort everytime it makes a grand appearance and manages to hurt/kill only the bad guys in the movie. The male protagonist has done a decent job except when he starts pulling a southern accent. The female lead has amazingly abysmal reactions to being chased by a freaking hurricane. How they manage to walk, talk and drive in the middle of a hurricane and flying debris defies all possible logic. Except the Bat-mobile, Dominator, loved it. Cool design. Aaaand for the finale! Hurricane quite literally picks out all the bad guys and the good ones drive away into the sunshine as the eye of the hurricane magically dissipates into a cool breeze. Wonder what happened to all those Federal agents stuck in a basement. Overall, Poorly planned heist with hurricane as a noisy backdrop.
Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi (2019)
Must watch for every Indian
This movie will make every Indian realize the freedom we enjoy today is caz of the sacrifices the generations before us chose to make. Kangana has brought out manikarnika for the pride, patriotism and the fervor that rani lakshmi bai still represents in India's hard earned victory against the British.
