A giant in the world of podcasting needs a “sonic signature.”
So when the prolific publisher Wondery decided it was time to brand its product by establishing an unforgettable signature, its leaders hired the creative-design firm, Made Music, behind the iconic static-screen clip that opens every HBO show. Wondery CEO Jen Sargent recalls that the branding exercise in 2018 helped the company fine-tune its vision of what Wondery podcasts should deliver to listeners.
“Imagine six or seven of us sitting in a room and asking ourselves, ‘Does this sound like wonder to you? Does this sound like wondering?’” recalls Sargent.
The efforts proved to be time well spent. Since Wondery’s launch in early 2016, podcasting as a medium has seen its listener base skyrocket. Wondery has blossomed into one of the largest producers of popular, recurring podcast series including “SmartLess,” a freewheeling conversation hosted by actors Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett.

[This story contains mild spoilers to the first three episodes of Paramount+’s Fatal Attraction.]
Fatal Attraction is an iconic part of cinema. Adrian Lyne’s thriller starring Michael Douglas and Glenn Close topped the box office charts after it released in 1987 to become the second-highest-grossing film of the year. It earned six Oscar nominations, inspired decades of stalker movies and, in recent years, has been revisited in think pieces around the retooled ending, sparked by Close speaking out about ways the film didn’t do right by her character, Alex Forrest.
“When they asked me to do it, obviously I was like, ‘I’m not going to do that. That sounds absolutely terrifying,'” Alexandra Cuningham tells The Hollywood Reporter of adapting the movie for TV. “I was thinking, I’ll just watch the movie again so that I’m being a good citizen when I send the email saying I’m not gonna do it. Then, you get sucked in.

“Fatal Attraction” is a story about hubris. Dan Gallagher (Joshua Jackson), a high-powered LA County prosecutor, lives a life of means. He’s inherited the de facto family business, he has a loving wife and daughter, and he can escape precarious legal situations with a well-placed phone call or two. Then, a woman enters his life who he can’t ignore: Alex Forrest (Lizzy Caplan), a member of the Victim Services team who ends up in the same courthouse hallways Dan patrols on a daily basis.
You don’t need to have seen a single movie from the 1980s to know that “Fatal Attraction” is also the story of an affair, one that plays out roughly the way it does in the film on which the Paramount+ series is based. Innocent-enough interactions quickly add up to Dan and Alex in bed together. Dan tries to end things and pretend their romantic few days never happened.

A curious Anne Archer lifts the lid off of a boiling pot only to discover the body of her young daughter’s mangled and bloated bunny. It’s a film scene that still echoes in the minds of cinephiles and physiological thriller enthusiasts alike. However, unlike the 1987 film starring Archer, Michael Douglas and the incomparable Glenn Close, Paramount+’s new series, “Fatal Attraction,” is void of boiled mammals. What it does have is a more intricately fleshed-out narrative of a pompous and ambitious district attorney Dan Gallagher (Joshua Jackson), whose tawdry affair with a young woman, Alexandra Forrest (Lizzy Caplan), quickly spirals out of his control.
“Dirty John” creator Alexandra Cunningham and writer Kevin J. Hynes’ series opens in the present day in Los Angeles, with a frazzled and bearded Dan pleading his case for parole. He’s served 15 years for killing Alex, a crime he attests to, before being granted his freedom.

The highest-grossing film of 1987 worldwide, the original “Fatal Attraction” served as a cautionary tale against casual infidelity, showing how even a seemingly innocuous fling can upend someone’s entire life. Lawyer Dan Gallagher (Michael Douglas) has a steamy weekend hookup with publishing exec Alex Forrest (Glenn Close), which derails in the most horrific way imaginable when she becomes obsessed with him, putting his entire family in jeopardy. (Close maintains that people told her for years afterward that the movie saved their marriage.)
In a TV landscape overrun with prequels, sequels and reboots, the source material for Paramount Plus’ new “Fatal Attraction” series proves surprisingly fertile. The show’s eight episodes provide plenty of time for the story to expand past paranoia, into the more interesting question of why Alex Forrest became so obsessive in the first place — not to mention why Dan, apparently a happy family man, tumbled from fidelity so easily.

The official trailer for Paramount+’s Fatal Attraction (the series inspired by the film) begins with the man at the heart of the love triangle attending a parole hearing after serving time for second-degree murder. He addresses a panel of judges and explains he’s been fixated on discovering why he did what he did and why Alexandra Forrest died.
Additional scenes show what Daniel thought was going to be just a one-night stand transitioning into something much more dangerous. Brief clips show Alexandra pursuing Daniel, and even showing up at his home. The trailer ends with Daniel proclaiming his innocence and swearing he’s going to prove he’s not a murderer.

When the Paramount+ series adaptation of Adrian Lyne’s blockbuster 1987 psychosexual thriller “Fatal Attraction” arrives later this year, the series will aim to tell Alex Forrest’s side of the story. Glenn Close played the “boiling bunnies” baddie in the iconic original, an editor of a publishing house who takes up an ill-fated affair with a successful Manhattan lawyer, played by Michael Douglas.
Anyone who’s seen the original or knows the cues of the tragic opera “Madame Butterfly” knows that it doesn’t end well for Alex.
But that’s precisely why showrunner, writer, and executive producer Alexandra Cunningham (“Dirty John”) wanted to turn the story on its head, here casting Lizzy Caplan in the role of Alex. (It was one of the reasons why she couldn’t fully commit to the Starz revival of “Party Down” outside of a season-finale cameo.) Joshua Jackson plays Dan Gallagher (the Douglas...

The person ends up questioning their own decisions and perceives themselves to be unfit to do any job. I am especially grateful to my extraordinary team who worked alongside me to take Anonymous to exciting new levels. I wish them all the best.”
Olmstead had been at her post since late 2020, when she departed as Universal Cable Productions president. McCauley joined as COO in January after a decade at Netflix, most recently serving as VP, business and legal affairs. No reasons were given for the departures.
Said the board of Anonymous in a statement: “Thanks to Dawn’s contributions, the company is in a strong position, and we are confident that our team, values and talent will continue to thrive.

Adrien Lyne's classic erotic thriller, "Fatal Attraction," is the latest gem from cinema's glory days to be dusted off and receive the TV remake treatment. What makes this streaming remake of "Fatal Attraction" from Paramount+ rather interesting is the cast list it has assembled, which includes Lizzy Caplan, Joshua Jackson, and Amanda Peet.

Now, Caplan has set her sights on Alex Forrest, the obsessed stalker and antagonist first played by the inimitable Glenn Close in "Fatal Attraction."
