Jonathan Majors’ Kang was supposed to be the big antagonist in the upcoming Avengers films and the climactic antagonist for the ‘Multiversal Saga’ of the MCU. However, the actor was dropped from future Marvel projects due to his legal troubles and eventual sentencing after being accused of assault.
The actor made his MCU debut with the Disney Plus series Loki, where he was introduced as He Who Remains, the protector of the Sacred Timeline. He also made an appearance in the box office disaster Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and was regarded as the best part of the film. Majors had mentioned his technique to get into character, which included a curated playlist that got the energy of the role right.

“Deliver Me From Nowhere,” the upcoming film about the making of Bruce Springsteen’s landmark 1982 “Nebraska” album, has landed at 20th Century Studios.
“The Bear” star Jeremy Allen White is in talks to star as the legendary rocker. Scott Cooper will write and direct the film, which is based on Warren Zane’s 2023 book “Deliver Me from Nowhere: The Making of Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska.”
“Nebraska,” the follow-up to Springsteen’s hugely successful album “The River,” was widely expected to be a rock album with the E Street Band. Instead, it was a stark solo album made on a 4-track recorder. The book and the film tell the story of Springsteen’s artistic journey in the creation of the record, which is regarded as a watershed in his musical odyssey.
The Gotham Group’s Ellen Goldsmith-Vein (“The Maze Runner” trilogy) and Eric Robinson, Cooper, Zanes and Scott Stuber are producers.

Christian Bale is probably the most diligent actor Hollywood has. Bale’s commitment to the craft is unparalleled. He has quite the reputation of going above and beyond to do justice to the characters he plays. With extreme physical transformations and voice modulations, Bale plays his characters like he’s grown new skin.

Christian Bale is known for his insane transformations and some of the most critically acclaimed roles in Hollywood. The 50-year-old Oscar winner has worked with some of the greatest directors and delivered some critically and commercially successful flicks. However, he also has a fair share of flop films in his career. Interestingly, many of these projects even came after his highly successful, The Dark Knight Trilogy.

Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Trilogy is one of the most significant works in Christian Bale’s filmography. His incredible performance as the Caped Crusader in Nolan’s gritty world elevated the trilogy’s quality and made Bale a household name. Dune 2 Star Timothee Chalamet Movies Ranked As Per Rotten Tomatoes. (Photo Credit – IMDb)
Timothee Chalamet is being lauded for his fantastic performance in Denis Villeneuve’s epic saga Dune 2. The film was released in the theatres on Friday, and it’s a visual treat for moviegoers. The film is one of the top-rated ones across various platforms, but Chalamet, over his short career span, has given several high-rated films.
Chalamet won hearts with his lively performance as Willy Wonka in last year’s Wonka. It became his career’s highest-grossing film as a leading man. But it seems Dune 2 might take away that title soon. He is essaying the character of Paul Atreides, and his ascension in this part has been remarkably shown. Scroll below for more.

Ah Hollywood. The evil temptress where talent often overshadows any sort of character flaw. Many people claim it to be a new development with the advent of social media, where a person tweets out something dumb ten years ago only to have it brought back up when they have a new Netflix movie dropping. But actually, celebrities have seen their careers implode long before people posted pictures of their dinners online for the world to see. Think back to the story of Roscoe “Fatty” Arbuckle, one of the highest-paid silent film stars of the era whose talent and fame were overshadowed when a woman was assaulted and subsequently died at a party hosted by the famed comedian. Arbuckle was acquitted of the crimes, but his career never recovered. We have never seen a career implosion like we witnessed in 2023 when an emerging talent had a genuine break-out year that was...

Jonathan Majors has been an actor on the rise during the last several years, popping up in offbeat studio films like "Hostiles," "White Boy Rick" and "Captive State" before making a splash in "The Last Black Man in San Francisco" and HBO's gone-too-soon series "Lovecraft Country." It's on the strength of his work in those films and shows that Marvel Studios hired him to anchor the next phase of their Cinematic Universe as Kang the Conqueror, a villain who's currently mixing it up with Ant-Man in the recent "Quantumania," and he continues to play challenging characters elsewhere, such as in the upcoming "Magazine Dreams."

When “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” director Peyton Reed started thinking about what a third “Ant-Man” film might look like with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and producer Stephen Broussard, the trio had a few different ideas that seemed of great importance. Mostly, two films into the franchise-within-a-franchise, Reed wanted to do “something really different,” he wanted to treat it as a “trilogy capper” that paid off on elements from the first two movies, he wanted to go to the Quantum Realm, and he wanted to give co-star Michelle Pfeiffer a truly heroic role.
And they needed a really big villain to help bring all that together. “It was like, ‘And I’d love to put Ant-Man and the Wasp, these two sort of unlikely Avengers, up against a really formidable foe in this movie,'” the director said in a recent interview with IndieWire.

This post contains spoilers for the ending of "The Pale Blue Eye."
With a 130-minute runtime, Netflix's "The Pale Blue Eye," based on the novel by Louis Bayard, reaches a fiery climax with about half an hour left to go. Just when you think it's over and detective Augustus Landor (Christian Bale) has solved the central murder mystery, the movie keeps going, delivering a final twist ending on top of that.
Viewers are with Landor the whole film as he investigates the grisly death and organ removal of more than one cadet at the West Point military academy with the help of his new friend, Edgar Allan Poe (Harry Melling). Suspicion falls on the Marquis family, and in a histrionic scene, we see three members of that family, including Poe's love interest, Lea Marquis (Lucy Boynton), about to remove his telltale heart in a Satanic ritual.

Suppose they took a hit movie to VOD after only two weekends at the box office, and it didn’t matter? That seems to be the case with when Universal’s “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” (19.99), which is available exactly 17 days after its theatrical opening. The Dreamworks animated sequel is currently #1 on all three charts we follow.
In its first post-holiday weekend “Puss in Boots” was #3 in theaters, grossing over 13 million and falling only 19 percent. This follows the identical path Universal chose for “Sing 2” a year ago. That title soared throughout 2022 in home play, most recently placing in Netflix’s top 10 for a record six months.
The immediate rise of “Puss in Boots” to #1 displaced “Knives Out” (Lionsgate/3.99). The 2019 title that kicked off Rian Johnson’s franchise took the dominant position on VOD charts last week in the wake of Netflix debuting “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.

Christian Bale is charting a new career path: producer.
After receiving his first such credit in the fall, on David O. Russell’s Amsterdam, he snagged another one on his new film, The Pale Blue Eye. But Bale is not one to sneak the credit into his contracts as some vanity gift.
“Like everybody, I’m stunned sometimes at the amount of producers you see in the credits,” Bale explained to THR at the recent premiere of the Netflix film that he produced for filmmaker and frequent collaborator Scott Cooper.
“I did it on Amsterdam and with this because I was there right from the inception. I helped to put the films together, and mostly as a creative producer, a right-hand man, sort of a consigliere,” Bale continued. “I can be there to whisper in their ear, reminding them of how we put it together, what the intent was, etc.

Based on the novel by Louis Bayard, the whodunit chronicles a mystery featuring a brilliant detective and a historical figure. This combination works wonderfully in this film thanks to the talents of Christian Bale and Harry Melling as two very different characters. Writer/director Scott Cooper, known for his distinct style, has long pursued adapting The Pale Blue Eye, and his passion shows in the finished product. Still, despite the competency and talent involved in bringing this story to the screen,...

The opening image of "The Pale Blue Eye" reveals "a young cadet who has met his maker hanging from a noose on a tree next to the Hudson River." That's how filmmaker Scott Cooper describes the shot from what he calls his most accessible film, a gothic murder mystery set in the 19th century. The director behind "Crazy Heart," "Hostiles," and "Out of the Furnace" is no stranger to bleakness, but in the case of his latest film, he gets to play with Edgar Allan Poe's macabre sense of humor to make a movie that is, in fact, his most conventionally entertaining movie.
Based on Louis Bayard's novel, the story follows a young Poe (Harry Melling) and a weary detective, Augustus Landor (Christian Bale), joining forces to solve a series of murders in West Point, New York. Often, "The Pale Blue Eye" plays as a buddy comedy between the two men,...

Poe Boy: Cooper Fails to Find the Exquisite Beauty in Eerie, Dreary Period Mystery
You’ll certainly be reduced to the mindset of the weak and weary after pondering the endless midnight dreary of Scott Cooper’s The Pale Blue Eye. Yet another stab at genre following his more vivacious (by comparison) examination of the Wendigo legend in 2021’s Antlers (read review), this adaptation of the 2003 romanticized plundering of Edgar Allan Poe by Louis Bayard likely reads better as printed pulp than visualized as a glossy, gothic whodunit.
Cooper’s third outing with Christian Bale (serving as producer) following the stilted melodrama 2013’s Out of the Furnace (read review) and their portrait of the harrowing heritage of white man’s violence in Hostiles (2017) denies the celebrated actor any room to stretch (seeing as he plays another disenchanted wretch who’s headhunted for his specific skills as a dramatic catalyst).…

“The Pale Blue Eye” is one of those movie titles that’s evocative yet teasingly vague — it makes the film sound like a Western based on a song by Lou Reed. Actually, the movie is based on Louis Bayard’s 2006 novel, which uses an 1830s military setting and murder mystery to frame a kind of origin story of Edgar Allan Poe. At West Point, which in the early 19th century is basically a fort in the woods overlooking the Hudson River, a cadet suffers a violent death. He is cut down from a noose hanging from a tree branch (his feet were touching the ground), but it’s what happens after he dies that counts: Someone has made a vertical incision in his chest and removed his heart.
Christian Bale plays Augustus Landor, the haunted eccentric detective who is brought in by the West Point brass to solve the crime.

A serial killer saga that’s set along the frozen banks of the Hudson River during the winter of 1830, Scott Cooper’s “The Pale Blue Eye” may be tapping into the cleverest aspect of the Louis Bayard novel from which it’s been adapted: If a young Edgar Allen Poe were involved in solving a series of murders, it would only be a matter of time before everyone started to suspect that he was behind them.
Harry Melling’s heroically weird performance as the death-obsessed poet has the potential to lull viewers into the same trap, even if it would seem that we should know better. Then again, most people don’t know anything about Poe’s brief stint at West Point, where his morbid nature and Southern lilt supposedly made him an irresistible target for some of his more abusive fellow cadets.

Set in 1830, a mildly ridiculous plot sends a haunted Bale to investigate the gothic killing of a military cadet
As a director, Scott Cooper has achieved a reputation for handling the tough textures of the western; now he applies that expertise to this enjoyable if entirely preposterous historical mystery thriller, adapted by Cooper from the 2003 bestseller by Louis Bayard, an author renowned for his ingenious reimaginings of real-life historical figures and famous fictional characters.
The Pale Blue Eye takes place in 1830 and Christian Bale, in full haunted/bearded mode (the same that he had for Cooper’s 2017 western drama Hostiles), plays renowned detective Augustus Landor; he is in a semi-retired, semi-hermit state, a sad widower whose daughter has disappeared. But Landor is strangely taken with a grotesque case that is put to him. A cadet at the US military academy in West Point has been murdered; hanged and his heart cut out of his body.

Wednesday Addams may see her title of “Netflix’s resident goth detective” challenged by the release of The Pale Blue Eye. Scott Cooper’s period thriller places a young Edgar Allan Poe (Harry Melling) at the centre of a fictionalised murder mystery in upstate New York. But, to Cooper’s credit, the film feels a lot less silly in practice than the one-sentence elevator pitch of Louis Bayard’s source novel. It’s a handsome adaptation, albeit with an unnecessary bit of literary celebrity dragged alongside it.
It’s 1830, and veteran detective Augustus Landor (Christian Bale) has been summoned to Westpoint Military Academy, where Poe happens to be stationed (the only detail true to biography). The dead body of a cadet, found hanged under suspicious circumstances, has been desecrated post-mortem – his heart carved from his chest and spirited away. We’re to be reminded, of course, of the “tell-tale heart...

A dour slow burn of a movie that never catches fire — even when a crime scene is set ablaze — Netflix’s period procedural The Pale Blue Eye has the curiosity factor of being a murder mystery that doubles as an Edgar Allan Poe origin story. Based on the 2003 novel by Louis Bayard, this third collaboration between writer-director Scott Cooper and Christian Bale (following Out of the Furnace and Hostiles) is far stronger on gothic atmosphere than suspense. It’s capably acted and visually effective, with lots of mist-shrouded woodlands and chiaroscuro interiors, but the storytelling is stilted and uninvolving.
Bale stars as the fictional figure of Augustus Landor, a widowed former police detective living alone in a remote cottage in Hudson Valley, New York, in 1830, with a strong reputation for breaking difficult cases and cracking codes.

Just over a decade ago, Scott Cooper called Christian Bale to offer him the starring role in Out of the Furnace, which he wrote specifically for Bale. Cooper was only a couple years removed from his feature directorial debut, Crazy Heart, which landed Jeff Bridges a long-deserved Oscar. Since Cooper tailor made Crazy Heart just for Bridges, he took the same approach with Bale and Furnace, except Bale politely declined the invitation at first. After all, Bale, who was still a young father at the time, was also nearing production on Terrence Malick’s Knight of Cups, and to top it all off, he had to promote his final Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises, in between it all.

Christian Bale and director Scott Cooper, who have previously teamed up for 2013’s Out of the Furnace and 2017’s Hostiles, have come together for their third collaboration, Netflix’s The Pale Blue Eye.
Based off of a novel by Louis Bayard, the film stars Bale as an 1830s detective in West Point, New York, investigating a series of murders at the United States Military Academy with the help of a young Edgar Allan Poe, who was a cadet at the academy.
“Scott had first sent this to me about 10 years ago; he’s a very prolific writer and has an abundance of projects that we are talking about continually,” Bale told The Hollywood Reporter at the film’s Los Angeles premiere on Wednesday, joking, “He felt like he wanted me to get a bit more gray and bit more crow’s feet and...

In the trailer for upcoming film “Pale Blue Eye,” Christian Bale is investigating a murder in 1830s upstate New York.
Netflix has released the first look at the American Gothic mystery film, in which Bale plays veteran detective Augustus Landor. Based on Louis Bayard’s 2006 novel of the same name, the film follows Landor as he is called to investigate a killing at the United States Military Academy in West Point. With a serial killer on the prowl, Augustus enlists Edgar Allan Poe (Harry Melling) to help him solve the case. Poe, the renowned writer and poet known for “The Raven,” “The Fall of the House of Usher” and “A Dream Within a Dream,” is introduced as young cadet at the military academy.
“Down, down, down came the hot thrashing flurry,” Melling’s Poe says in a teaser released on Oct. 27. “Darkest night, black with hell-charneled fury, leaving only that deathly pale blue eye.

Jonathan Majors’ accomplishments are even more impressive when you consider that he graduated Yale School of Drama just six years ago.
On Nov. 23, the actor returns to the big screen as Korean War hero Jesse L. Brown in J.D. Dillard’s Devotion. Majors’ performance as Brown chronicles his achievements as the first African-American naval aviator, as well as his heroics in the “Forgotten War.” The film features one of Majors’ most remarkable scenes to date, as he performs Jesse’s preflight ritual of reciting every terrible remark that’s ever been said to him. As one can imagine, the scene had quite an emotional impact on Majors.

It's been a while since Hollywood's star factory cranked out a genuine, organic sensation quite like Timothée Chalamet. He's the rare marquee name who can command attention off the screen with his vivacious personality as well as hold it on-screen with his acting talents. It's possible to point to previous celebrities and thespians he recalls, but what's most remarkable about the rise of Timothée Chalamet is that he feels like something entirely new and unexpected to behold. He's at the forefront of a new generation of leading men who are out to deconstruct and demolish traditional ideas of what on-screen masculinity can and should be.
In under a decade since his big-screen debut, he's already forged a formidable path through the industry that is breaking new ground for those to follow behind him. Though he charged onto the scene for most with 2017's "Call Me by Your Name," the role...

After telling a lush love story with “Call Me by Your Name,” filmmaker Luca Guadagnino combines that sensibility with his more horror-leaning style from “Suspiria” in his new film “Bones and All,” which tackles the uncomfortable theme of cannibalism. Written by David Kajganich, the R-rated feature film contains sexual content, bloody violent content and brief graphic nudity. The two-plus hour runtime chronicles a story between two young people who take a journey of self discovery together — and who are also cannibals.
Timothée Chalamet and Taylor Russell star in this story of young love between people ostracized by society. The mix of horror and romance combine to tell a haunting tale of guts, gore and glory.
Fans of Timothée Chalamet may be wondering how to watch “Bones and All.” All your questions answered below.

Christian Bale is a fascinating actor, the type of performer that has played so many complex and storied characters, film fans can all name a completely different favorite role, and they'd all be correct. While plenty will forever associate him with the gruff voice of the Christopher Nolan "Batman" trilogy, others will picture him donning a frosted transparent raincoat whenever they hear "Hip to Be Square" by Huey Lewis and the News after his horrific turn in "American Psycho."
In his latest project, Bale is reuniting with director Scott Cooper in "The Pale Blue Eye" for Netflix. Jonathan Majors has an uncanny comfort when it comes to playing men in uniform.
In his first film role, Scott Cooper’s “Hostiles,” the actor portrayed a 19th-century corporal stationed in New Mexico. In the HBO supernatural horror TV series “Lovecraft Country,” he was a World War II veteran returning home to the monsters of white supremacy. The military is not only in Majors’ name, it’s in his DNA: His father was in the Air Force. His grandfather served in the Navy.

Jonathan Majors knows how to keep a secret. Ask about him about his role (or roles) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe — specifically that of Kang the Conqueror in “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” — and you’ll come up empty. Ask him to tell you everything that’s going to happen and he proceeds to tease. “Yeah, no problem,” he says. “You want to start from Paul Rudd’s point of view? Or maybe we start from Michelle Pfeiffer’s?”
Of course, the actor isn’t going to divulge anything about the MCU. What he can talk to Variety’s Awards Circuit Podcast about, however, is his upcoming film “Devotion,” a rousing crowd-pleaser based on Adam Makos’ 2017 book “Devotion: An Epic Story of Heroism, Friendship, and Sacrifice.” Listen below:
Directed by J.D. Dillard, the film tells the story of Jesse Brown and Tom Hudner, two fighter pilots in the Korean War.

What right does the BBC have, making a lavish six-part western? The BBC – which is all about stuffy, bonneted period dramas and documentaries where a nonagenarian cavorts with chimpanzees – tackling the quintessence of American culture? And, to add to the impertinence, calling it The English? Netflix has released its first look at the upcoming Christian Bale-starrer The Pale Blue Eye.
Based on Louis Bayard’s book of the same name, the 1830-set movie sees Bale portray Augustus Landor, a former police detective who’s been called upon to unravel the murder of a cadet at West Point. Things take a darker turn when, after the body is moved to the morgue, it’s uncovered that his heart has been removed.
Up against a seemingly unbreakable code of silence among the cadets and the pressures of a fledging academy desperate to protect its reputation, the world-weary detective turns to one of their own to help him solve the case. That man, with his disdain for the military’s rigors and a penchant for poetry, will become known as Edgar Allan Poe.

For their latest collaboration, Christian Bale and Scott Cooper have teamed up with Edgar Allen Poe. In the new Netflix thriller “The Pale Blue Eye,” Bale’s local detective enlists the help of a young Poe (played by Harry Melling) to solve a grisly murder. The streaming service released a first look at the project on Thursday.
Bale and Cooper previously worked together on “Out of the Furnace” and “Hostiles.” This new film looks similarly dark, judging by the moody and snow-covered images offered in the brief teaser.
Based on the book by Louis Bayard and written and directed by Cooper, “The Pale Blue Eye” is set in 1830 and focuses on the investigation into the death of a West Point cadet. “But after the body arrives at the morgue, tragedy becomes savagery when it’s discovered that the young man’s heart has been skillfully removed,” the Netflix description reads.

Netflix has released the first teaser trailer for Christian Bale's latest, "The Pale Blue Eye," which also represents another collaboration for him with director Scott Cooper. Bale, who is coming off of this summer's "Thor: Love and Thunder," previously worked with Cooper on movies like "Out of the Furnace" and "Hostiles." This time? They're headed back to the 1800s for a mystery that ties into the king of old-time gothic spookiness, Edgar Allan Poe.
In this case, the legendary author behind "The Raven" and "The Masque of the Red Death" is played by Harry Melling, of "The Queen's Gambit" fame. So, how is it that Poe crosses paths with a man trying to solve a murder? Let's have a look-see.

Christian Bale and director Scott Cooper have a history together. They first teamed up on 2013’s “Out Of The Furnace,” then reunited on 2017’s “Hostiles.” Now they collaborate again on “The Pale Blue Eye,” Cooper’s follow-up to last year’s “Antlers,” which hits Netflix next January. And the pair’s latest film together may be their most intriguing, as it’s a gothic mystery with a highly esteemed literary figure at its center: Henry Melling‘s Edgar Allan Poe.

Last decade, Christian Bale and director Scott Cooper teamed up for two films, 2013’s “Out Of The Furnace” and 2017’s criminally underseen “Hostiles.” Now, they join forces again on “The Pale Blue Eye,” Cooper’s take on Louis Bayard‘s 2006 novel about a double murder at the West Point military academy in 1830. Vanity Fair’s first look at the film offers a glimpse at the period mystery thriller, which sees Bale’s detective come out of retirement to solve the murders thanks to a new protegé, Henry Melling‘s young Edgar Allan Poe.

(Welcome to ...And More, our no-frills, zero B.S. guide to when and where you can watch upcoming movies and shows, and everything else you could possibly stand to know.)

Bale has collaborated with director Scott Cooper on a few occasions in the past, stretching back to 2013's "Out of the Furnace" and the 2017 Western "Hostiles." Two esteemed film professors. Two wildly different cities on two different coasts. And countless ways in which both have contributed to the ever-expanding landscape of entertainment education in the United States — and the world over.
James Schamus, three-time Oscar-nominated filmmaker of such landmark features as “Brokeback Mountain” and “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,” former CEO of Focus Features and film professor at Columbia University School of the Arts, is one of Variety’s Entertainment Educators of the Year. He shares this accolade with Joely Proudfit, a Payomkawichum woman, director of the California Indian Culture and Sovereignty Center and chair of American Indian Studies at California State U. San Marcos.
These two forces of creativity — Schamus in New York, Proudfit in California — have been chosen as Variety’s two educator honorees not only for their dedication to the craft of filmmaking itself, but for their tireless work teaching today’s budding cineastes,...
