- Albert, a loner who spends most of his time in the high school library, is obsessed with the beautiful and bright but tormented Cara (who the other kids call "Scara" because of her scarred arms). When the school authorities decide Scara is a danger to herself and have her committed to a hospital, Albert enlists the help of the rebellious kids Scara hangs with to rescue her from her fate. But can they hope to triumph over the adult world?—J.P.
- A high school nerd, with the help of some misfits, goes on a daring mission to rescue the girl he loves from a mental hospital. Yeah, and it's a musical. From the award-winning team of film, TV and music video director Jenn Page and writer/composer Chris Edgar comes a rock opera about a misfit high school kid's attempt to break the girl he loves out of a psychiatric hospital. Darker and edgier than your usual high school TV fare (think Glee meets Freaks and Geeks), The Breakout's music is in the vein of rock-based theatre shows like Next to Normal and Spring Awakening. Though The Breakout deals with serious themes like teenage self-harm, drug use and mental illness, it treats them with a healthy dose of humor.
