Damien Thorn is the antichrist, and the trilogy that tells his unholy tale remains popular almost fifty years later. Indeed, while putting together this Omen movie ranked list and revisiting the original franchise, I was surprised at how well the old movies held up. Omen fans will be happy that the series has been restarted in a pretty interesting way this weekend, with The First Omen a surprisingly excellent prequel to the original trilogy (check out our interviews with the director and cast here), even if it takes one large liberty involving Damien’s birth that some fans may have an issue with. So, how do the Omen films rank against each other? Let’s take a look, but remember that the Fox TV movie, Omen IV: The Awakening, is not included, as I’m sticking with feature films.
The Omen (2006):
There’s honestly no reason for this movie to exist.

This article contains major spoilers for "The First Omen."Hello folks! Welcome back to Nunsploitation 2024: Battle of the Babies.
When last we left the saga of Damien Thorn, it was 1981, and Damien was played by the devilishly handsome Sam Neill in "The Final Conflict." In that film, the Antichrist nearly fulfilled his evil purpose in halting the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, but was foiled by his one-time lover, journalist Kate Reynolds (Lisa Harrow), who through the grace of God and her own strength was able to fatally stab Damien with the magical dagger of Megiddo, the weapon that poor Robert Thorn (Gregory Peck) failed to use against his adopted son Damien (Harvey Spencer Stephens) when he was a child in 1976.
If a 33-year-old Damien in 1981 seems implausible given that the first film sees Damien as merely five years of age and the 1978 sequel, "Damien: Omen II" follows the...

When compared to "classier" Satanic contemporaries like "Rosemary's Baby" and "The Exorcist," Richard Donner's 1976 hit "The Omen" is the pulpiest of the lot. "The Omen" had no interest in the sexist panic of the former, nor the religious angst of the latter, settling instead in the realm of spooky thrillers, replete with cool kills, portentous Satanic language, and an awesome score (a score that brought Jerry Goldsmith his only Oscar). There's no ambiguity to "The Omen," being clear from the start that Gregory Peck and Lee Remick are indeed raising the Antichrist. The pop Satanism "The Omen" introduced into the lexicon has now become standard horror fare, and was even spoofed at length in the TV series "Good Omens."
"The Omen" spawned one okay sequel ("Damien: Omen II" in 1978), one risibly bad sequel ("The Final Conflict" in 1981), and one miserably bad sequel ("Omen IV: The Awakening" in 1991) before succumbing...

Easter is behind us, we’re into a new month, and we’re fully into spring … and yet, the box office might be hitting another lull. Read on for Gold Derby’s box office preview.
There aren’t many scenarios where “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” doesn’t win its second weekend at #1. Even with a steep drop from its Easter opening, it should still be able to bring in another $30 million this coming weekend, which will be hard to beat.
It might be a coin flip on which of the other two new wide releases might do better, but I have to give a slight edge to “The First Omen,” 20th Century’s prequel to a horror franchise that began all the way back in 1976 with the horror film, “The Omen,” directed by Richard Donner pre-“Superman.” That led to two sequels in 1978 and 1981, even though the original...

20th Century Studios’ The First Omen is a true prequel to The Omen, arriving almost fifty years after the Richard Donner-directed horror classic introduced Antichrist Damien Thorn and terrified audiences. The film’s legacy is front and center in an exclusive new featurette.
First released in 1976, The Omen stars Gregory Peck as affluent diplomat Robert Thorn. It begins on June 6, at 6 am in Rome, where Robert Thorn learns his newborn has died, and the Church convinces him to accept an orphaned infant in its place. Robert’s wife, Kathy (Lee Remick), is none the wiser.
As the child, Damien, turns five, it coincides with a wave of strange happenings and coincidences that leads Robert down a harrowing journey where he’ll discover his adoptive son may be the Antichrist.

20th Century Studios’ second trailer for The First Omen finds a priest warning a nun to be very careful around one particular orphan. Why? Because bad things will start to happen around her. Evil things.
Servant‘s Nell Tiger Free stars as the nun who feels protective of the peculiar orphan in the prequel to The Omen. The cast also includes Tawfeek Barhom (Mary Magdalene), Sonia Braga (Kiss of the Spider Woman), Ralph Ineson (The Northman), Charles Dance (Game of Thrones), and Bill Nighy (Living).
Arkasha Stevenson (Channel Zero) directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Tim Smith and Keith Thomas, based on characters created by David Seltzer. David S. Goyer and Keith Levine served as producers, with Tim Smith, Whitney Brown, and Gracie Wheelan executive producing.

It’s a badge of honor for a movie to be made into a stage musical. It’s an even bigger badge of honor for that musical to be adapted back into a movie of its own. But here we are – 20 years after Mean Girls hit theaters and six years after the show hit Broadway, Mean Girls the musical is now a movie.
Mean Girls is about a teenager named Cady Heron (Angourie Rice) who, until now, has been homeschooled by her mother while Mom does research in Africa. Cady finally gets a chance to attend a regular high school, and it goes about as well as one would expect. To put it plainly, Cady is socially awkward.

The Exorcist sequel, The Exorcist: Believer, didn’t wow horror fans or critics in 2022. 20th Century Studios is hoping for a better reception for their The Omen prequel, The First Omen. The minute-long official trailer suggests that “to control those who don’t believe, create something to fear.” That warning comes as snippets of nuns, priests, and other characters are shown moving in reverse.
The first trailer’s release was accompanied by the debut of the teaser poster.
Servant‘s Nell Tiger Free stars in the psychological horror film, which is based on characters created in The Omen by author David Seltzer. The cast also includes Tawfeek Barhom (Mary Magdalene), Sonia Braga (Kiss of the Spider Woman), Ralph Ineson (The Northman), and Bill Nighy (Living).

Evil is unleashed in the first trailer for The First Omen, a prequel to 1976’s classic horror film The Omen.
It’s always hard to scare people with just a trailer, isn’t it? You need to communicate a sense of terror or include a couple of jump scares to get people interested in booking tickets, but I have to be honest here. The First Omen takes the cake with how it chooses to sell the film to its potential audience.
People walking backwards. That’s it. People are ominously moving backwards in the first trailer for Arkasha Stevenson’s prequel to 1976’s classic horror The Omen.
Take a look at the trailer below.
The trailer is heavy with religious imagery, a lot of nuns and priests, so if that’s your thing, it looks like The First Omen will more than deliver.

Before Damien was born in Richard Donner’s infamous 1976 horror classic “The Omen,” a Vatican-adjacent conspiracy to bring the Devil to Earth made for a sinful demonic ploy.
“The Omen” prequel “The First Omen” is the latest installment in modern horror franchises and reboots, following the original film which chronicled an American ambassador (Gregory Peck) who adopts a son who turns out to be the antichrist. The film was remade in 2006 by then-20th Century Fox, and landed the short-lived 2016 sequel series, “Damien.” Now, 20th Century Studios’ “The First Omen” attempts to capture where all that satanic worship kicked off.
The film’s official synopsis reads: “When a young American woman (Nell Tiger Free) is sent to Rome to begin a life of service to the church, she encounters a darkness that causes her to question her own faith and uncovers a terrifying conspiracy that hopes to bring about the birth of evil incarnate.

“The First Omen,” a prequel to the 1976 horror film “The Omen,” has released its terrifying first trailer.
It follows a woman, Margaret (Nell Tiger Free), who goes to Rome to fully commit to the church. However, she soon faces the emergence of a deadly evil.
Along with Tiger Free, the cast of the horror film includes Bill Nighy, Ralph Ineson and Sônia Braga. The pteque marks the feature directorial debut of Arkasha Stevenson. The writers are Stevenson, Tim Smith and Keith Thomas from a story by Ben Jacoby.
“The Omen” told the story of Robert Thorn (Gregory Peck) and his wife, Katherine “Kathy” Thorn (Lee Remick), adopting a son whom they name Damien (Harvey Spencer Stevens). After a series of ominous events, including Damien deliberately knocking Kathy over a balcony and causing her to miscarry, it is revealed that Damien is the son of Satan and the Antichrist. The classic horror franchise The Omen has been lying dormant ever since the failed television series “Damien” back in 2016, but the evil returns this year in The First Omen.

Macro Television Studios is producing “Swordplay,” a fantasy drama series based on original idea by Jonathan and Josh Baker. The Baker brothers developed the series alongside Macro, Hebru Brantley and Eric Phillips. Lucien Christian Adderly and Richard “Byrd” Wilson serve as series creators, and Glen Mazzara will showrun.
“Swordplay” follows a sheltered teen and his newly befriended Hypebeast crew as they lace up their retro kicks and go for glory with an ancient sword used to defeat otherworldly creatures on the streets of LA.
A veteran showrunner, Mazzara’s credits include “The Shield,” “The Walking Dead” and “Damien.” It is therefore notable that he’s boarded “Swordplay” this early in the process, supporting early-career filmmakers such as the Baker Brothers. The Bakershad their feature film debut with “Kin,” based on their short film “Bag Man.” Jack Reynor, Zoe Kravitz, Dennis Quaid, James Franco and Myles Truitt starred in the feature.

As we learned earlier this year, 20th Century Studios has called upon the Antichrist once again with The First Omen, a brand new official prequel to their The Omen franchise.
Deadline reports today that Nell Tiger Free (“Servant”) will star in the upcoming film.
“Legion,” “Channel Zero: Butcher’s Block” and “Brand New Cherry Flavor” director Arkasha Stevenson will be making her feature directorial debut with The First Omen.
Stevenson will also handle the rewrite of the film, alongside writing partner Tim Smith. Smith is set to executive produce with Phantom Four producing.
The original 1976 classic, which starred Gregory Peck, Lee Remick and Harvey Stephens, followed an American ambassador who believes his five-year-old son is the Antichrist.
That film spawned three sequels, including 1978’s Damien: Omen II and 1981’s The Final Conflict, as well as the 2006 reboot. There was also a short-lived “Damien” television series.

The last few weeks have brought some major developments in how intimate scenes are filmed for television. Recently, HBO announced that it would be hiring an intimacy coordinator to oversee sex scenes on its various productions. On Monday, a report detailed alleged questionable behavior by writer/director Frankie Shaw on the set of her Showtime series “Smilf.” (Deadline reported on Monday that Showtime still plans to go ahead with the planned January premiere date of Season 2 of the series.)
Former “The Walking Dead” executive producer Glen Mazzara is convening a discussion of these issues, slated for next summer’s Atx Festival, which will be held during the second weekend of June 2019.
In response to Monday’s report in a Twitter thread, Mazzara collected details of the panel (previously announced when the Atx lineup was revealed in November) and thoughts on what he sees as the industry’s inadequate preparation for these kinds of scenes.

The casting news for The X-Files Season 11 continues to roll in with the announcement that Robbie Amell (The Flash) and Lauren Ambrose (Six Feet Under) have jumped on board to reprise their roles as Agents Miller and Einstein.
The two characters were introduced in Season 10 and they seemed like they were the newer younger versions of Agents Mulder and Scully, only they weren't as entertaining or as charming. I thought the addition of the new characters were fine, and I think it will be good to get to know them a little better.
Also, legendary actress Barbara Hershey is the latest new actress to join Chris Carter's eleventh season of the series! Hershey has been a ton of films and TV shows since the 1960s. It’s truly unfair to cast aspersions before a character has even uttered one line, but check out this new X-Files casting and tell us you don’t get Diana Fowley vibes, Ok?
Barbara Hershey will recur on Season 11 of the Fox sci-fi series, our sister site Deadline reports. Her character, Erika Price, is “a powerful figure who represents a mysterious organization.” And while yes, that could describe a whole lot of people who’ve crossed Mulder and Scully’s paths in the past, there’s something about this one — maybe it’s the hair? — that brings to mind the slippery and rather untrustworthy Ms.

With The Dark Tower opening in theaters this weekend, moviegoers will be transported to Mid-World on the big screen, but the seminal Stephen King book series is making some progress on the small screen as well, with a showrunner now set.
According to THR, Glen Mazzara (The Walking Dead, Damien) is set to serve as showrunner for The Dark Tower TV series from Media Rights Capital and Sony Pictures Television. The series is currently in the development stages, as it still needs to find a network to call home, but it's expected to comprise 10–13 episodes and filming could begin as early as 2018 if things move forward (The Dark Tower's box office performance could be a factor in whether or not the series comes to fruition).

We've seen Frank Miller's Sin City comic books come to life on the big screen in the 2005 and 2014 film adaptations that Miller co-directed with Robert Rodriguez, but now a TV series adaptation is in the works at The Weinstein Company (TWC) / Dimension, with two big names working on the project.
According to Deadline, Glen Mazzara is writing a TV series adaptation of the Sin City Dark Horse comics, with Len Wiseman set to direct. Stephen L’Heureux (whose producing credits include Sin City: A Dame to Kill For) is on board the series as a producer, along with Miller, Mazzara, Wiseman, Bob Weinstein, and Harvey Weinstein.
Deadline reports that although the TV series is expected to follow Miller's comics, it will also feature new characters and stories against the neo-noir backdrop of Sin City, all while being a "far departure from the films."

The Weinstein Company isn’t done with “Sin City” just yet. After working with Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez on two film adaptations — 2005’s “Sin City” and 2014’s “Sin City: A Dame to Kill For” — the company is planning on bringing the property to the small screen for a new television series, Deadline reports. The Weinstein Company is developing a TV reboot with Dimension and writer Glen Mazzara, the former showrunner of “The Walking Dead” and “Damien.”

“Sin City” will be based on Miller’s iconic graphic novel series, which was published between 1991-2000. The movie adaptations, both co-directed by Rodriguez and Miller, used the plot and characters from the source material, but Deadline reports the television series will be a departure. Mazzara’s script will use the world Miller created but introduce new characters and story elements.
