Nominations for the 2024 Outer Critics Circle Awards were announced on Tuesday, April 23. The stars of the hit Broadway revival of “Merrily We Roll Along,” Jonathan Groff, Lindsay Mendez and Daniel Radcliffe, read off the nominees live from the Museum of Broadway.
Off-Broadway productions ultimately out-paced Broadway with this critics group. The new David Yazbek musical “Dead Outlaw” led the pack with nine nominations. It was followed by “The Connector,” another Off-Broadway musical, and “Stereophonic,” a lauded Broadway play, with seven nominations each.
While there are no Tony nominators in the Outer Critics Circle membership, these nominations can provide some clues as to how theater aficionados are thinking about this season’s Tony race. Of the five productions cited for Best New Broadway Musical, only “Days of Wine and Roses” and “Suffs” made the cut in the all-important Best Score category. They were joined by two Off-Broadway entries, as well as...

BAFTA has published the longlists for its 2021 Film Awards, which members will now whittle down to the final nominations. You can see the lists in full below, there are 15 per category for most awards, with exceptions.
These aren’t nominations, so drawing too many conclusions from them is premature at this stage. However, if a title didn’t make the cut here, it won’t be getting a nom.
A few takeaways: as per the Globes, Minari is in for foreign-language movie but not for Best Film (Another Round made both); Tenet missed both Best Film and British Film but did make Director and below-the-line categories; Spike Lee isn’t on the Director list, but Da 5 Bloods is on nine including Best Film and Screenplay; Malcolm & Marie missed everything aside from the two lead performances; zilch for On The Rocks, and fairly slim pickings for Apple in total,...

Is Anne Heche the newest thorn in Voight’s side?
Chicago P.D. has tapped the Brave star for a recurring role in Season 6 as Dep. Superintendent Katherine Brennan, our sister site Deadline reports.
Katherine is described as smart, to the point and political. While those may sound like good attributes, she is also self-serving, as well as a cunning and formidable opponent. Sounds like another potential foe for Voight, yes? Season 5 of the police drama concluded with the sergeant being questioned by higher-ups about a shooting he was involved in following Olinsky’s death. (Read our full finale recap here.

Apple TV+ twisted thriller series Servant manifests from the mind of M. Night Shyamalan.
Servant marks M. Night Shyamalan’s return to television, a medium in which he last endured the 2016 cancellation of his secretly-post-apocalyptic Fox television series, Wayward Pines, after two seasons. However, Shyamalan didn’t have to wait long for his television hopes to rebound, since he subsequently closed a deal with Apple, which will provide his new thriller series a platform with its November-launching Apple TV+ streaming service.
Shyamalan’s Apple deal yielded a 10-episode straight-to-series order for Servant, teaming him with writer and executive producer Tony Basgallop, of Berlin Station, 24: Legacy, 24: Live Another Day and What Remains fame for the mystery series, described as a “psychological thriller.” Interestingly enough, Shyamalan’s Servant will distinguish itself in terms of format, since – contrary to genre convention – it will manifest as a half-hour series,...

The Brave has an uphill battle to find an audience and that may result in this turning into a show that a lot of people wish they had watched once it gets a few episodes in and struggles in the ratings. It’s fantastically niche for a start, because no matter how much it tries to wedge itself into the mold of popular cop shows, special forces hits and extraction missions just aren’t everyone’s cup of tea.
If that weren’t enough, there is an air of the formulaic about the series which might not go over too well simply because the jump from the war room to the streets and back again reminds too much of too many shows.
Then we have to add in the idea that there are those out there who may be wishing that we would just stop trying to make Anne Heche happen.

This November, we'll be meeting a whole new cast of characters from the mind of J.K. Rowling when Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them hits Cineplex theatres on November 18th. When Harry Potter first came out, the films didn't just give us Harry, Ron and Hermione, but also Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson.
While some of the members of this new cast are familiar faces, for many of them this is the biggest project they've yet to be a part of, and the film is bound to introduce these actors to a whole new audience. We're taking a closer look at the cast, one by one.

He'll be joined by an all-new cast featuring Katerine Waterston (Steve Jobs), Dan Fogler (Kung Fu Panda), Alison Sudol (Dig), Colin Farrell (The Lobster), Ezra Miller (Justice League), Samantha Morton (Minority Report), Jon Voight (Mission: Impossible), Ron Perlman (Hellboy), and Johnny Depp (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales) in a mysterious cameo appearance. So many goodies in the cinemas candy store this upcoming Awards Season! Oh,boy, oh boy.

While we have not seen some of these (although we have seen some trailers), some movies are sure to disappoint. That said, here is Wamg’s list of highly-anticipated films, both big blockbuster entertainment and seriously meaty cinema.

Doctor Strange – Nov. 4
The Sherlock supreme becomes the sorcerer supreme as one of the founding Marvel comics heroes finally arrives in the Marvel “movie-verse”.
While other Marvel Studios flicks have explored the worlds of hi-tech, Norse mythology, and space opera, director Scott Derrickson guides us through the realms of magic.
