Right now, it feels like NCIS and a couple of its spin-offs are on everyone's mind. The show, which passed the two-decade milestone, not only hasn't tired its viewers out, it's found two new offshoots to expand its universe and continue its battle with NBC's Law & Order for the longest-running procedural.
Of course, viewers' attention is now divided between NCIS: Origins, which will tell the origin story of Agent Gibbs, previously played by Mark Harmon, and NCIS: Tony & Ziva, which will follow the lives of two former agents after they escape to Europe.
However, the most loyal fans still remember how the franchise lost what could have been its best spin-off 11 years ago.

Everybody knows that NCIS is one of the biggest TV franchises there is, but what if we tell you that there are even more shows that share the same universe with the series than those which have NCIS in their names.
Sounds intriguing? Then check out our list and the advice on how to watch all the shows in correct order.
10. Jag
Everything started with Jag. It actually gave the start to the whole franchise, and it surprises us that not so many fans actually knew about it. The two episodes that made it all happen were Ice Queen and Meltdown, both from season 8. In these episodes the many NCIS characters were introduced, like Jethro Gibbs, Anthony Dinozzo and others. After that, when NCIS premiered, it featured many Jag characters as well.
So if you never heard of the show but consider yourself a NCIS fan, it’s time to binge Jag right now.

The NCIS franchise keeps expanding its universe as it’s about to bring Leroy Jethro Gibbs to the screens, the character who left the original show back in season 19. The franchise’s new spinoff titled NCIS: Origins will take its viewers back to 1991 when young Gibbs was about to start his career as an NCIS agent.
Now that the whole series will put its focus on the character’s personal and professional story, Gibbs appears to get not only an honor of his own show, but also the status of the franchise’s most featured character that previously belonged to someone else.
By taking up the spotlight in the upcoming spinoff, Gibbs officially becomes the NCIS universe’s indispensable game player who’ll now be featured in four shows of the franchise.

The sun has set on “NCIS: Hawai’i,” leaving the show on a wild cliffhanger.
The series, which ran on CBS for three seasons, said its final aloha on Monday night with a season finale-turned-series finale.
At the end of last week’s episode, the Compound X bioweapon was in the hands of the nefarious Dr. Annalise Cruz (Rachel Mars), the late Alexi Volkoff’s assistant. She also aimed to take out the NCIS Elite team, to the horror of Sam Hanna (LL Cool J).
The episode opens with Sam risking exposing himself to Compound X in order to save his team — a heroic but potentially fatal move that his teammates stop him from doing.
From there, Jesse Boone (Noah Mills) and Jane Tennant (Vanessa Lachey) work to find Cruz, also known as Tala Flores, and save the day. Sam is also chasing her but coughing a lot, eventually falling and confirming mild Compound X exposure.

After three seasons, NCIS: Hawai’i has been cancelled by CBS. While the show was on the bubble, Deadline says it’s still a little surprising as there had been talks of an “abbreviated fourth and final season,” but that would have come with a massive budget cut.
NCIS: Hawai’i starred Vanessa Lachey as Jane Tennant, the first female Special Agent-in-Charge of the NCIS: Hawaiʻi Field Office. The finale of the third season, which will now be a series finale, will air on May 6th. Sources say that while it wasn’t meant to be a series finale, the episode won’t end on a major cliffhanger that will leave fans frustrated. With just three seasons under its belt, this places NCIS: Hawai’i has the shortest series in the franchise, following NCIS: New Orleans with 7 seasons and NCIS: Los Angeles with 14 seasons. It came down to the wire, but NCIS: Hawai’i ultimately didn’t make the cut for next season at CBS. The news comes days before the network is set to announce its fall schedule on May 2 and before the Season 3 finale of Hawai’i is scheduled to air on May 6. According to sources, the episode was not meant to be a series finale and includes a tease for what was to come but fans won’t be left reeling by a major cliffhanger.
The cancellation is not a complete shocker since, as Deadline has been reporting, NCIS: Hawai’i was on the bubble. Still, the outcome is surprising since an effort was made to extend the well performing drama’s run for at least an abbreviated fourth and final season, with producers agreeing to a massive budget cut and open to other concessions in order to keep the show going.

“NCIS: Hawai’i” has been canceled at CBS.
The “NCIS” spinoff is currently airing its third season at the broadcast network. The season finale scheduled to air on May 6 will now serve as the series finale.
“NCIS: Hawai’i” was the fourth series in the “NCIS” franchise and is now the third series to end. Both “NCIS: New Orleans” and “NCIS: Los Angeles” ended in the past few years after seven and 14 seasons respectively.
That is not to say the franchise is not still going strong. The mothership series was renewed at the beginning of April. CBS is also prepping a prequel series about a young Jethro Leroy Gibbs, while Paramount+ is readying a spinoff that will see the returns of both Cote de Pablo and Michael Weatherly. Paramount+ and CBS also air “NCIS: Sydney,” which was renewed for a second season in March.

In case you somehow missed it, the 1,000th episode of the NCISverse is upcoming.
That will be NCIS Season 21 Episode 7, airing on CBS at 9 p.m. Monday, April 15.
The event was heralded by an Entertainment Tonight special hosted by Kevin Frazier, which aired April 8 on CBS. It's likely still available on streaming service Paramount+.
NCIS has been on 21 seasons, NCIS: Los Angeles lasted 14 seasons, and NCIS: New Orleans seven. NCIS: Hawaii is in its third season, while NCIS: Sydney recently finished its first season. You do the math to get to 999.
So, as the NCISverse's 1,000th episode approaches, would now be the peak for the franchise, with two spinoffs airing this season and two new spinoffs planned for next season?
Not at all, although this certainly could be seen as the golden age of NCIS Recycling, which admittedly is at least in vogue now.

The E. W. Scripps Company is refreshing the brand identity of its television network Ion to reflect its carriage of live sports and events, executives confirmed this week.
The change comes as Scripps has worked to incorporate more live events into Ion’s annual schedule, to include professional women’s basketball and soccer, and as the company offers a greater focus on its budding Scripps Sports brand that launched in late 2022.
The refreshed identity for Ion will extend to its two companion networks — broadcast outlet Ion Mystery and free, ad-supported streaming channel Ion Plus — with the total package taking center stage at Scripps’ Upfronts presentation this spring.
In an interview with the trade publication Cablefax, a Scripps executive said the new brand identity was a reflection of an uptick in interest from the advertising community “about the need to support women’s sports — that it’s good business for them,...

Many NCIS and NCIS: Hawai’i fans may be in for a shock. Today, CBS announced that the current seasons are close to ending.
The NCISverse celebrated April 8 with a primetime special about the first 1,000 episodes. This includes content from NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans, NCIS: Sydney, and NCIS: Hawai’i.
It’s a huge milestone for the franchise, and many new episodes are still coming- just not this spring.
As a reminder, two Hollywood strikes caused delays in production for most scripted shows. This means shorter seasons for the hit dramas.
NCIS Season 21 has only 10 episodes, with the seventh airing on April 15. That’s the night the franchise debuts its 1,000th NCIS episode.
NCIS: Hawai’i Season 3 also has only 10 episodes, and Vanessa Lachey recently celebrated filming ending.

NCIS loyalists may feel lost without original spinoffs NCIS: LA, which aired for 14 seasons, and NCIS: New Orleans, which was canceled in 2021 after seven seasons.
But we're thrilled to see long-time agent Sam Hanna (LL Cool J) share the screen with his Hawaiian co-stars in the spinoff NCIS: Hawai'i. And even better news is the new series spinoffs, NCIS: Syndey -- just renewed for Season 2 -- and NCIS: Origins.
We'll also enjoy the continuation of the love story between Dinozzo and David in a yet-unnamed spinoff later in 2024-2025.
Here's everything we know about the upcoming prequel, NCIS: Origins.
What is NCIS: Origins?
NCIS: Origins is a series that takes place in the 90s and follows Leroy Jethro Gibbs as he starts out as a rookie NCIS agent at Camp Pendelton.

The NCIS franchise will be airing its 1,000th episode on April 15, and CBS Studios President David Stapf has been involved in every single one of them. Because he was head of CBS current programming at the time, he even participated in the development of the mothership series from Day 1 because it originated as two back-door pilot episodes of an existing show, Jag, that aired in April 2003. He was in on all casting sessions and still remembers Pauley Perrette’s audition that won her the role of Abby in the room.
Scheduled against then-Fox juggernaut American Idol, NCIS, about a little known branch of the U.S. military, got off to an inauspicious start, finishing its first season ranked #26. By Season 7, it was the most watched TV drama, holding its own against Idol, and became the most watched program overall three seasons later while also ruling syndication.

In the wake of Terrifier‘s breakout success, star Jenna Kanell has gone on to book supporting roles in the likes of Renfield, WandaVision, The Bye Bye Man, and NCIS: New Orleans — but Art the Clown casts a long shadow. Kanell reconciles her unconventional journey while holding a mirror up to the industry in Faceless After Dark, which she co-wrote with Todd Jacobs for director Raymond Wood, both frequent collaborators.
Kanell stars as Bowie Davidson, an actress struggling to break out from the shackles of B-horror after starring in a killer clown movie. She’s no stranger to fandom — peddling herself at conventions, recording Cameo videos, combating social media harassment — but when an obsessive fanatic in a clown mask breaks into her house, Bowie assumes the role of the final girl to fight back against her oppressors.
The home invasion is ostensibly propelling toward a tense game of cat-and-mouse between Bowie and her stalker,...

NCIS returns for Season 21 this winter but without former star David McCallum.
He won’t be featured as a cast member for the first time in more than 20 years.
While he did scale back his appearances in recent seasons, this situation is much different.
David McCallum played Chief Medical Examiner Donald “Ducky” Mallard and the supervisor for Dr. Jimmy Palmer (Brian Dietzen).
Ducky eventually relinquished his position to let Palmer have his shot, and Palmer has continued to be the doctor that the team leans on.
It was then that Ducky became the NCIS historian, allowing him to help on cases from time to time.
What happened to David McCallum from NCIS?
Actor David McCallum died in September of 2023. He was 90 years old and passed away from natural causes.
Had the Hollywood strikes not happened, David may have appeared in a new episode for the upcoming season.

Typically, it’s pejorative to call a series formulaic. But when it’s a franchise spin-off of one of CBS’s longest-running, most beloved dramas, the question is whether it’s faithful to the big daddy, “NCIS.” The series first premiered starring Mark Harmon as man-of-few-words and dynamic-action-hero-with-a-dark-past Leroy Jethro Gibbs on Sept. 23, 2003. It’s now celebrating its 20th anniversary; does the franchise, beloved by audiences global and domestic, still have juice?
Is the latest offspring the painful dud of “NCIS: Los Angeles” or the spry Creole-flavored “NCIS: New Orleans”? With the first four episodes available for preview, the good news is that “NCIS: Sydney” is faithful to the formula, while developing its own individual vibe at the frequently awkward intersection of American and Australian culture.

The meteoric rise of "Suits" this year has been one of the most fascinating stories in television. Even though the show went off the air in 2019, its release on Netflix resulted in a massive resurgence for the series, with the legal drama setting all sorts of streaming viewing records. That success has not gone unnoticed. As a result, a new series set within the "Suits" universe is officially in development. Though not a revival of the beloved show that has become an unexpected monster hit, it could provide more stories in this universe for years to come, if all goes well.
Deadline recently reported that a new "Suits" series is in the works from original creator Aaron Korsh. Very little information was revealed, but the initial report stated that deals were still being hammered out by NBCUniversal behind the scenes, so nothing is set in stone. The only thing that...

Exclusive: Megan Stalter (Hacks), Kanoa Goo (The Rookie), and Rainn Wilson (The Office) will topline Ily, Bye, a new short marking the narrative debut of veteran music video helmer Taylor James (Jason Mraz’s “I Feel Like Dancing”), which has wrapped production.
The short written and directed by James follows Siobhan (Stalter), a quirky, socially anxious mess who can’t seem to keep a job. Thanks to the help of her best friend Gary (Goo), she scores an interview with his boss, Mr. Litchfield (Wilson). But when her call to schedule the interview goes to voicemail, Siobhan panics and leaves a series of unhinged messages. Not wanting to lose the interview, she embarks on a chaotic mission to delete the voicemails herself. James jokes that he decided to start from scratch and pursue his dream of filmmaking “after being forced to retire” from his career as a professional backup dancer...

[This story contains spoilers from the two-episode premiere of Bosch: Legacy.]
Sharat Raju is no stranger to the world of crime, justice and punishment as a director for popular police and lawyer series such as Law & Order, NCIS: New Orleans and Criminal Minds. He’s even directed episodes about law and justice in the world of zombies via The Walking Dead franchise.
Yet, for Raju, the long-running Bosch franchise holds a unique place in his career that’s a bit different from his previous gigs. The director recently spoke with The Hollywood Reporter on a Zoom video chat from Los Angeles to talk about how he became a part of the Bosch team and his guidance on the two-episode premiere of Bosch: Legacy season two (now out on Amazon Freevee and already renewed for season three).
How did you become a part of the Bosch family, did it start with Bosch: Legacy or before?
