Richard Dreyfus Sexist Rant Sparks Apology ( Photo Credit – Wikimedia )
Oscar winner Richard Dreyfus is under fire again over a sexist and homophobic rant that reportedly prompted a Massachusetts theater to issue an apology over the offensive remarks.
It all began when the Cabot hosted the 76-year-old “Jaws” star for “An Evening With Richard Dreyfuss” on Saturday, May 25, before the film’s Massachusetts Theatre screening.
However, things supposedly went off the rails as soon as Richard Dreyfus walked to the stage wearing a dress over his clothes. In a YouTube video taken by an audience member, the actor was seen on stage wearing a floral print dress, shaking his hips to Love Story by Taylor Swift in the background.

What a year it’s been for David Krumholtz. In 2023, the actor has added a Tony-winning play (Tom Stoppard’s Leopoldstadt) and a box-office sensation (you know which one) to his resumé. In both cases that affable face, so often in the margins, nudged toward center stage. Krumholtz goes one further with deadbeat comedy Lousy Carter, a premiere last week in competition at the Locarno Film Festival wherein the actor plays a graduate lecturer who learns he has six months to live and decides to try seducing a student. It’s less creepy than it sounds and, at its best, it’s all his.
Lousy Carter is directed by Bob Byington, returning to the Swiss festival for the first time since 2012, when his Nick Offerman starring Somebody Up There Likes Me took home the Special Jury Prize. Byington’s script plants the nominatively determined character in a community college in Austin,...

Adrian Peng Correia admits that taking over as cinematographer for the second season of “Glow” was “an interesting conflict.” On the one hand, you have to “honor something that has already been done for the first season.” On the other hand, you have to “express yourself with camera in a different way.” Correia spoke about his work at Gold Derby’s Meet the Experts Btl panel, hosted by managing editor Chris Beachum. The event took place on Thursday, May 30, at the Landmark Theater in Los Angeles. Watch our exclusive video interview with Correia above.

Back in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s I was (over)active on the bootleg video circuit. One of the directors I discovered in my dealings with other collectors was Jim Van Bebber. His Deadbeat at Dawn was a legend almost immediately after it was released, and his reputation was solidified by a handful of short films which traumatized heretofore steel-bellied horror movie viewers. Even in slightly blurry, multi-generational bootleg copies, his films carried a wallop not felt very often. They were energetic, raw, no-holds-barred and outrageously gory. They had to be seen to be believed.
Fast-forward to the present and Van Bebber is one of a handful of Diy film mavericks, along with Bill Lustig, Frank Henenlotter, Sam Raimi, Buddy Giovinazzo and their ilk, now revered for their hardcore 80’s output. But of this group, perhaps Van Bebber stands just a little taller for his extreme persistence.

Warner Bros. is developing “Coyote Vs. Acme” as a Wile E. Coyote animated movie with “Lego Batman” director Chris McKay on board to produce.
The sibling team of Jon and Josh Silberman, whose writing and producing credits include “Living Biblically,” “Bordertown,” “Deadbeat,” and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” have been hired by the studio to write the “Coyote Vs. Acme” script.
Wile E. Coyote is part of Warner’s Looney Tunes characters, which include Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Elmer Fudd, Yosemite Sam, Foghorn Leghorn, and Marvin the Martian. The dialogue-free Coyote character first appeared in 1949 in “Fast and Furry-ous,” the first of 49 cartoons in which he was never able to catch the Road Runner, despite using complex devices from the fictitious Acme Corporation. The Acme contraptions invariably fail, leaving the Coyote squashed flat or burnt to a crisp.

One of the problems that comes from being a hardcore fan of films is that most of your time is spent trying to enjoy your passion despite the shackles of a medium that is plagued with repetition and paint-by-numbers efforts. If you see more than a dozen movies a year, it isn’t long before you’re trapped in the tedium of not simply knowing that the good guys are probably going to win, but who is going to turn out to be the double-crosser as soon as you see them, why and when the rom-com couple are going to have their second act “distancing” they have to overcome, and on and on.
This is why certain writers and directors can get a jump on popularity just off the back of putting something out that makes you sit up and notice that you have no idea what’s going to happen.

One of Hulu’s longest-running originals has aired its final episode. Deadbeat, which followed the adventures of a laid-back paranormal investigator, has been cancelled after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Deadbeat, which first arrived in 2014, was hailed by some (myself included) as the best original series Hulu had released up to that point. It stars Tyler Labine as Kevin, a stoner whose adept ghostbusting skills are offset by his persistent laziness. While the show never reached into groundbreakingly funny territory, it was consistent and knew its audience well. The last two season of Deadbeat were released on 4/20, thus letting potential viewers know exactly the sort of people who would enjoy the show.
In confirming the show's cancellation on his Twitter account, Labine gave its stoner fans one final nod. He described Deadbeat as "officially cashed" and offer his thanks to the show's production team.

Hulu has opted not to renew original comedy series Deadbeat for a fourth season. Because of the nature of the streaming service, cancellation does not mean going into oblivion as it does on a traditional network. The produced three seasons of Deadbeat will remain available on Hulu for years to come. The supernatural comedy starring Tyler Labine was a leftover from the previous Hulu regime and Hulu’s early days of an original programming player with lower-budget comedy…...
