Best episode of the first half of the show, and it's not even close
mmcardoso-140226 September 2023
Oh boy, what can I say about this episode? I don't even know how to start, so I'm gonna call by what it is: art. If the first 3 episodes didn't hooked you up or you thought they were slow burn or even that this show wasn't worth watching it, this episode may be the one to change your mind. I was on the edge of my seat from beginning to ending. The stakes have never been higher. I can see they're improving everything from episode to episode, the performances of the main characters feel more natural, the choreography for the action scenes is way better here, even the VFX that was already great in the first 3 episodes look even better here. The highlights of this episode: Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll, wow, just wow, he totally nailed it, I'm completey sold on the character. Natasha Liu Bordizzo's Sabine Wren and Ivanna Sakhno's Shin Hati we're pretty good here too, but the 2 things that made this episode so special were Dave Filoni's writing and Peter Ramsey's directing, brilliant, just brilliant. The ending of the episode was just the icing of the cake of a already great episode and just helped to cement this one as one of the best Star Wars live-action shows episodes. I can't wait for next week, I wish I had a Time Machine so I could go 7 days to the future.

Getting better...
bruno-costa6 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This was a very solid episode.

The light saber duel between Ahsoka and Baylan was impressive. Ahsoka fighting style is well conceived. To be fair, the duels here are much better than in other shows, even considering Sabine nonsensical recover from episode one to episode two.

There is no change in the story, that is indeed pretty obvious, but the pace that this story is unfolding is pretty nice and the show's aesthetic is excellent.

The acting is also pretty good. Dawson and Stevenson are well casted and very comfortable.

Ahsoka is far from Andor (best star wars show by far) and don't has Mando's highlights, but is more consistent than Mando's (has no fillers) and Obi-Wan.

Finally!!!
sublueke6 September 2023
Ashoka did it. It finally got from okay to really good. The one thing that tells me is that Filoni clearly has a strength for Pay Off but not so much for Setup. You can see that through out all of his work. But this episode was very much a mid-season finale and it worked. Ray Stevensons character is really interesting as always but this time around others like Sabine can shine to and her acting has greatly improved. Even Ahsoka gets to show some emotions, wow show your title character is finally getting interesting Halde way through.

The slow pace is not so mach felt here, which is good. This is no Andor where the writing is so great, that you can allow yourself dialogue heavy episodes and extended scenes. It's no Andor but it's enjoyable and it's improving, finally!!!

Honestly, this is one of the best episodes of Star Wars television
poseyfan6 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed the first three episodes to a certain extent but I had a lot of minor problems.

This episode however, blew me AWAY. We are finally getting to the meat of this story; this episode set it up brilliantly.

This episode is a lightsaber combat-lovers dream. I found the choreography to be good, and there were great stakes.

I really liked the misdirection they took with Marrok. Also how Ahsoka was just done with him after he spun his lightsabers. She was like I've had enough of this inquisitor BS.

Baylan continues to be the best character this show has to offer. He steals the show every time. Shin is cool too, and I would love to hear more of her backstory.

I liked what they did with Sabine and the difficult decision to either destroy the map or give it up. It made for some good tension. I appreciate how she didn't use the force in the crucial scene with her and Shin. She reverted back to her Mandalorian instincts and fired a shot instead. I really hope they don't actually make her force sensitive. *crosses fingers*

Everything was great story-wise for this episode. And THEN, we got the look at you know who! I can't wait for next week to see how that interaction unfolds.

One of the best episodes of Star Wars we have gotten on Disney+.

End to the first half of the story
ha77y73ad976 September 2023
Theres a lot to unpack not just from this episode but from the entire series so far. We've been with this story for 3 weeks now and there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel!

The team around Filoni have been able to piece together a story that is part new and part legends, so many of the comments and issues surrounding the series so far have been down to the pacing. So far its living up to my expectations, this is a prequel series to a large scale feature film. The story that is being told in this is the hunt for Ezra and Thrawn. Not the conclusion to the Heir to the Empire story line. To get to the point that we are now proves that this is running at light speed. The attention span of many audience goers these days may be the reason that a weekly series is being impacted in the way that it is.

There are so many moments that bring me back to George Lucas' Star Wars but the one thing that is lacking is the saber fights. I totally understand where Filoni wants to take the styles to be far more Samurai but i need a full flashy saber battle from the prequels! This maybe down to the style of practical effects that are being employed today compared to the blue screen sticks but we are getting there with the style that Ahsoka has but just dial it up another 20% and then i think we'll be there.

At the point that this story had been left im truly hopeful in what is to come. My only theory that can be added to the fire is if its possible that the world between worlds is where all of the force sensitive being reside in the living force. Able to travel to any point in time and appear but to return as Ahsoka did may drive a lot of conspiracies!

Give this Crew a Trilogy!
uhhjaredgold7 September 2023
Wow. This is the kinda Star Wars we need. Just like Andor, the characters feel real, engaging, and methodical. There is good storytelling here that went unseen in Mando season 3 that I hope Lucasfilm really expands on. Peter Ramsey is a fantastic director for Filonis writing. The action is grounded and keeps you guessing. The cinematography like the overhead shot of the map was so well done. And we finally get some good lightsaber action. I hope this tone continues on and we can feel the next part of the story really pull us in. Overall, I couldn't be more pleased from a tv episode on Disney plus. Can't wait for the second half!!

This is a great series

Warning: Spoilers
This episode definitely picked up compared to the last one and was great action and story telling throughout. I love how much of a badass Ahsoka is with these inquisitor type people and finishes them off with ease. This Sabine is still growing on me but I like how she put more of a fight up with the saber this time. I like how they continue the rebellious side of Hera like they did in Rebels and I'm hoping they are going to have a Zeb appearance since they have Hopper. The ending with Anakin calling Ahsoka "Snips" really played with my heart for a second. Hayden Christiansen is loving life right now I'm sure!!! Can't wait for next week!!!

Now we're cooking!
babbittc7 September 2023
Strong battle scenes. Strong acting. The dark side is incredibly strong here. Baylan and Shin are incredibly strong characters in this episode. The actress playing Shin is by FAR my favorite amongst all of the female characters here. Ahsoka's character really shines during the fight scenes but her dialog is rather slow and pensive, borderline boring. Hera and Sabine's character are by far the weakest. Hera's actress almost converses her lines, as if she doesn't realize she's in a Star Wars series. She's just so unwatchable. Halfway through this episode I found myself actively hoping for their demise just to end my suffering.

All in all though a very well balanced episode, nearly flawless.

The Best Star Wars Television In Years
SHU_Movies6 September 2023
This was definitely one of the best pieces of Star Wars television since the series finale of The Clone Wars. It's got amazing action, awesome performances, a great script, a fantastic soundtrack, and I absolutely love what it's doing with the characters; old and new!

I'm especially loving the character of Baylan! Ray Stevenson was absolutely incredible in the role, and the character is so well written. So far, he's turning-out to be one of my favourite antagonists in the Star Wars Universe

We're also half-way through this series (or at least the season), now, and I'm feeling quite confident about it, which is something I've not said about any Disney+ shows in a while. It's a really great change of pace after a lot of underwhelming Star Wars and Marvel projects on the platform.

Really a 7.5 but I'll give it an 8
cybersavior-038117 September 2023
So far I've posted so-so reviews for the show, as it's been slow moving, slow dialogue and predictable. This has been the first interesting and good episode.

The dark Jedi (?) actually have some dialogue that provide more character depth. The plot is not entirely predictable. It was interesting!

The pace of this episode is also what we were expecting from the start. I hope it continues!

Lastly though, the series, while called Ashoka, doesn't seem to be about her journey as much as Sabines. Perhaps that will change, but fans tend to get annoyed with the bait-and-switch approach to storytelling. Had they taken this approach with Andor, it would have failed. It's also why Mandalorian S3 wasn't as strong as the first two; it was not really about Mando in the end; was it.

=)

Superb
Turanic6 September 2023
Let's say I wasn't expecting lightsaber fights to be this good in Ahsoka, but they are... This was actually a very strong episode, it was pretty cool because there was a feeling like the good guys can actually get into a fight they can't handle ... The episode is full of decent non stop action... There are some pretty cool revelations and the material from both rebels and general canon is being used wisely, the sith are able to influence decisions and read thoughts ... Let's say if you are a somewhat fan of Clone Wars, I don't see the reasons not to enjoy it... As much as I hate sequel trilogy... And maybe Andor is the best thing that happened to Star Wars, Ahsoka is a guilty pleasure you should not miss...

Love the concept kinda iffy on the execution
omegura6 September 2023
This show so far as been a treat. It's worked for the most part, and ultimately feels like it's going to some great heights. This episode kept that going and I'm pretty stoked. But idk, there's just something about it.

I'm caught up on practically everything Star Wars, and have been a fan for all my life. I'm not a sequel hater or prequel hater, or anything like that, I embrace new and old Star Wars, despite knowing the problems with it, and try to keep an open mind. I feel like I need to preface that.

This episode was good. It wasn't great, unfortunately, but it paved the way for a hopeful second half of season 1. The stakes were high but I think this episode needed to take more risk? I feel like there were so many things that happened, and they could've been much better executed, both in terms of writing and in terms of action. What we got isn't bad, but I don't know it just feels kinda plastic?

The action editing sequences, for example. We see the clash, but we don't really see the choreography much. Sure, there's nice lighting, cool colors, great practical effects, but I want to see the fight on a more broad scope. I hope that's not asking too much, but I want to physically see the fight playing out from a wider view. It connects the characters to their environment, and it feels more atmospheric, as well as simply being a showcase of solid fight choreography. This show hasn't really convinced me that the choreography is great. I'm sure it is, but I want to see it.

Last little gripe is just the writing. The characters still don't feel like the characters, but rather impersonations. Ashoka is different, but I still need more convincing for Sabine and Hera. Why is Hera's kid here? Why do some of the conversations feel cut short? It just sounds like statements rather than conscious dialogue. I might be overthinking it though, so definitely keep an open mind and go in with your own expectations.

Best episode so far but it's not nearly as good as many are saying it is.
apaajapoaho7 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
So it wasn't horrible... definitely not as bad as last episode but it certainly wasn't good. The pacing and character issues are very much still present.

I think the real issue with this episode is the bizarre choices and character moments throughout the episode. For example the entire ambush thing made very little sense, why didn't they just shoot Huyang which would've probably been quiet enough considering the fact that the fistfight he was having with that droid didn't alert Sabine or Ahsoka for some reason, or why didn't Shin or Marrok go up to Huyang and slice him up or something?? The choreography for the lightsaber stuff for the most part was really cool but there were so many moments where people just stopped fighting or paused for no reason whatsoever. Now here are the two big issues I have with this episode; 1. Why didn't Ahsoka use the force to grab the map, did she just forget that she could do that? And 2. The entire Sabine arc/backstory/conflict thingy is executed in a way that just doesn't make me care, Sabine as a character just hasn't been likeable enough in this show for me to care about her internal struggles.

Overall this episode was, fine...... I liked it to an extent but I feel like a lot of it was style over substance.

The rise of the Jedi is coming
gabethedinosaur7 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Hayden it's good to have you back as anikan Skywalker since the clone wars 21 years ago to episode 3 revenge of the sith 18 years ago after the clone wars was over and anikan became Vader. Ahsoka must ask aniakn for some Jedi help on how to find Sabine, Ezra and thrawn before the rebels find them. I hope in the next episode ahsoka uses the force to find the location of the map and follow the of the stars . The rebels must use a tracking system to find the location. And I hope to see leia appear and shows her pregnancy to the rebels . If Ezra's alive he must see Sabine and remember how much they meant to him when he joined the rebels and became a Jedi.

Warning: Spoilers
It's that simple. One of the best SW eps ever made. Fantastic light saber battles. Terrific effects. Great pacing. This almost seemed like a finale and that ending......so glad it's not. Ahsoka is everything Anbore was not. A true spectacular SW show. And with the extremely likable characters even more so. I'm really enjoying it and eagerly awaiting Thrawn's and Ezra's appearance. Unbelievable to think Ray looking so strong passed away. I can't imagine anyone giving this a low score but I'm sure it will happen with some people complaining endlessly about anything and everything. I truly hope this is renewed. If that trash Anbore was renewed.........

Tears by the end!
and_mikkelsen6 September 2023
This episode had exactly what I have been waiting for! It was exciting, thrilling, intense and emotional!

Now we are getting somewhere! After 3 build-up episodes we finally get an episode that does not skip a beat, being exciting from beginning to end! It was SO good i really whish the episode was longer!

This episode had some great duels and we really got to see Baylan as great and formidable villain! I liked the choeography as well as the soundtrack! Gave off samurai-vibes!

The episode had multiple shocking moments and I was really on edge at times! The ending was equally shocking and emotional to me! I almost didn't know what to feel! AMAZING!!

This episode really kickstarted this show and the next episode has the potential to be EVEN better!!

Snips
Trey_Trebuchet6 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
So yeah spoilers obviously.

What an episode. It's been great seeing an old face show up in every single episode so far (Carson in this one!), but they've all sort of made sense too. None of the returning characters, rather it be cameos or main characters, feel tacked on just for nostalgia sake. I love that. That's how you do fan-service but not at the expense of a good show.

This was a blast and without a doubt the best of the first four episodes. All of the fighting was great. While this certainly doesn't hold any of my favorite lightsaber duels, they all felt very gritty. You can just feel all of the punches, force chokes and lightsabers clashing. Even the short fight with Huyang was really well done. What a great character he is.

Baylin is also becoming a highlight of the show. I loved all of his dialogue and manipulation here. Dude is just a really smooth talker/negotiator. Ray Stevenson is excellent so far, especially in this episode.

I wasn't at all expecting to see the World Between Worlds in another Star Wars show. And it looks like Hayden Christensen is actually Anakin in this! I must admit, that gave me goosebumps and a big smile on my face. Even through the de-aging was kind of... yeah😅Very curious to see where that goes. I better not cry...

This was a very good midpoint episode. I'm anxiously, ANXIOUSLY waiting for next week. I want the rest of this series NOW. Dave Filoni has some weak Star Wars content, no doubt about it, but he also has some of the very best in the franchise and so far I love this series. People who haven't seen the last season of Rebels are in for a real treat!

Return of Star Wars
dennis_chiu16 September 2023
It took four episodes, and in the fourth installment, Dave Filoni finally returned Star Wars to Its roots. Episode four, titled Fallen Jedi, is an homage to the style as George Lucas's prequels in shot blocking, space flight sequences, attention to the different sword fighting styles for lightsaber duels, scene transitions, and bad dialogue. This episode was like coming home again. The pacing and special effects in this episode are noticeably better than episodes one and two. The absence of a campy light saber versus space fighter combat is thankfully missing. What remains is pure Star Wars and it could not have come too soon. I can only hope that the remaining episodes continue in the same tradition.

Part Four: Fallen Jedi has fast paced action with some truly great lightsaber duels, Ray Stevenson leaves a mark in Star Wars as Baylan Skoll, one of the better antagonists
Holt3446 September 2023
Part Four: Fallen Jedi is directed by Peter Ramsey and written by Dave Filoni, the showrunner. If you haven't noticed by now, this is a serialized show and the episode begins immediately after the previous episode with our heroes, Ahsoka and Sabine are stranded on the same planet as the antagonists with time running out. It's high stakes and you feel it throughout the episode, on the edge of your seat while a crimson red lightsaber clashes with Ahsoka's white, there's a lot of lightsaber duels and I love the amount of work went into them and the whole episode.

The premise of the episode is: Hera risks her career to help her friends while Ahsoka and Sabine confront enemies.

The episode stars Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano, Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll, Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati, Diana Lee Inosanto as Morgan Elsbeth and David Tennant voices Huyang, with two guest appearances I won't spoil here. What can I say about the acting in this episode? Whatever you have to say about Rosario Dawson's wooden portrayal of Ahsoka, that's no longer there in my opinion, instead we get more of the Ahsoka Tano we know and love from Clone Wars. I really like the writing for all the characters in this episode and honestly it was my favorite of the four. The characterization is right and the actors do a terrific job, especially the performances of Ray Stevenson, Rosario Dawson, Ivanna Sakhno and Natasha Liu Bordizzo.

Star Wars has always been reminiscent of Samurai movies, especially Kurosawa's, Dave Filoni brings the inspiration and style back to Star Wars. That's something I wrote for my review in the first episode and it's done perfectly here with the characters using different stances reminiscent of the samurai stances but it's of course called forms in the Star Wars universe. There's plenty of lightsaber duels to talk about, the rematch of Sabine and Shin but it's the ones with Ahsoka which is really the highlight of the episode, her going up against Marrok and especially her duel against Baylan which might have been the best lightsaber duel I've seen since Ahsoka vs Maul in Clone Wars S7. There's something with directors in live action during the Disney era which can't direct lightsaber duels or really choreograph them, well, Peter Ramsey was the perfect choice to direct episode four of Ahsoka. When you look at his filmography and what he directed, there's not a lot, but he has the talent. Dave Filoni's writing are really good in this episode, it didn't feel like there were much dialogue as it was very action packed, and honestly it would have ruined the tension if people would have talked too much. Instead we got an episode full of suspense and tension, with Ray Stevenson probably getting most lines to speak and his performance is just perfect, something I wrote in my previous review is how it's in a Shakespearian way, his performance. Ray Stevenson is just terrific and I love the bond his character has with Ivanna Sakhno's character, I strongly believe Shin is Baylan's daughter. Sakhno's performance is in my opinion one of the better ones in the episode, how she shows all that emotion without speaking, brilliantly done. Ray Stevenson leaves a mark in Star Wars as Baylan Skoll, one of the better antagonists. Episode four: Fallen Jedi was a brilliant episode, the best one yet in my opinion.

The best episode ever
marianciobanuz6 September 2023
On the internet everybody talks now about how huge was the ending of this episode, but for me, this one was excellent from the first scene until the end. I expected, just like the others to see something like that in the series, because of the rumors of the Star Wars influencers from the internet, but even so, this was so unexpected and so cool. This kind of the episode is what we expect to see in a Star Wars tv series and i really loved how they are connecting the entire franchise, it remembers me about the golden era of sci fi on television when we had Stargate and Star Trek on each week, this episode was so good, i'm totally speechless !

Amazing episode and such great tension building
namob-436736 September 2023
I was not so happy with the last episode before this one. Although the show as a whole has been excellent, the last episode gave me pause and I thought perhaps this will turn into another Disney failure, but then this happens and holy s...it...

This was so good!

It is by no means perfect. I can easily pick a part certain scenes and the fights are still kinda meh, but what a story, what a ending, what a build up for Thrawn's comeback. If they nail the landing this show will go down in Star Wars history for sure. What a nail-biting emotional greatness!

And that twist... did not see that coming.

I am so happy with this show despite the last episode before this one which was only okay. Keep it up!

The Power of PLOT prevails
robertdlar6 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
One of the things I always complained about Dave Feloni was that the power of plot had the ability to neutrilize the force and technology. Case in point in an episode of Clone Wars, Anakin didn't have his light sabre and seemed to forget how to use the force throughout that episode till he got it back.

Ahsoka lands in the middle of hostile territoriy and doesn't bother to set up any passive systems to alert her to enemies closing on the ship. Sure they don't want to use active radar and such to broadcast their position but there are other things you can do, like trip wires attached to cans FFS. At least use the force to sense incoming trouble. Guess Ahsoka is not that good.

Hela decides to bring her only child with her on a dangerous mission, great parenting.

Otherwise the duels are fine, the plot is still stupid, and not much is acomplished in another episode. They really have forgot how to make shows.

Bad plot, bad decisions and dull characters
jlvanorsouw13 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
If Ahsoka's ultimate goal is to stop Thrawn from returning and she preaches Sabine that the greater good goes before personal gain then why didn't she destroy the McGuffin map the moment she found it? It would have prevented a lot of the trouble they're in now.

The series so far has been an accumulation of bad decisions and Ahsoka standing with her arms crossed pretending she is a big shot jedi master. Where is the Ahsoka that's kind, caring and energetic?

Same goes for Sabine. At this point in time she should be 35 years old but she acts like a child who has just reached puberty. She can't stand on her own two feet while we've seen in Rebels that she could.

And now in the end we get Anakin as some kind of Force ghost, but probably is some kind of evil apparition... But at least they got to introduce another big character for nostalgic reasons.

This series could've been fun and engaging, but it has been flattened by the Disney hammer of dullness. The last chance they get for me is with Acolyte, because the only nostalgic character they can bring back there is Yoda and it should force them to make something original and engaging.

Best episode so far!!
tomatodirt7 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I really enjoyed this episode the most! It totally felt like a rebels episode. Honestly had me on the edge of my seat on what happens next. I am a HUGE fan of clone wars and rebels and this is definitely entertaining. Sadly, I do still think some of the dialogue is just slow and drags out a bit too much. I wish I didn't think so. Very excited for Thrawn, hoping to see book Thrawn rather than rebels Thrawn possibly? But i'm not so sure of that possibility, especially when he's coming back to "unite the Empire" supposedly. I don't believe book Thrawn would want that for the Chiss. Maybe some Legends Thrawn? Although I enjoy Rebels "mustache-twirly villian" Thrawn, I really would like to see Timothy Zahn's version of him. Him and Ahsoka are my favorite characters in Star Wars and honestly OAT. So I am EATING THIS SHOW UP. Also all those Marrok spoilers are out the window haha!

This episode was worth the waiting, and waiting, etc.
horseshoeatombomb8 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Too bad you have to sit through 10 minutes more of bad dialogue between 2 characters acting like they are arguing over having to wait in line at the local DMV and not crash landed less than a mile from a bunch of their worst enemies. The boring garbage relationship tension between Ahsoka and Sabine is terrible. Let's barely argue inside a ship while we leave the Droid defenseless to repair the ship even though I just literally told him the enemy is out there watching. Oh by the way.... I'm the main hero basically in charge of protecting everyone, but who's keeping track. Then when he is attacked we will act like it can't be happening and he's just being "that crazy Droid again".

Then finally after countless hours of staring out at the ocean, it happened! Ray Stevenson shows and saves the day and the episode!!!!

Is something wrong with Ahsoka's legs and hips at this point in the story line? Everyone else is jumping around like banshees she can barely get her feet 2ft in the air. She literally got more air being force pushed than any offensive moves she made. I am not counting the cartwheel because everyone knows that's cheating.

The remix of hyper jumping your ship through the enemy fleet was back in case you missed it in the movies. Fortunately it takes out the White male X-Wing pilot before he could become any type of likable hero factor. Can't have that happen, can we?

There was also a weird "Bring your kid to Space Battle Day" vibe. The lightsaber duels were good for the soul and it felt like the story actually progressed rather than treading water, like Ahsoka will have to do at the end. I absolutely loved seeing Anakin Skywalker and I am truly hoping they embark on the explanation of where Jedi go after death. I actually can't wait to see the next episode!
