Corin Nemec was originally cast in the lead, but after a few days of filming was critically injured when a Belizean Coast Guard boat ran into a semi-submerged barge while transporting the crew to set. The entire right side of Nemec's body was shattered and he required multiple blood transfusions to save his life. Nemec subsequently underwent five surgeries.
At 1:08:27 the aircraft ID is shown as C-FJSM. C indicates that the plane is registered in Canada.
There is a consistent error in the English subtitles on the DVD. Every time one of the characters says "Ambergris Cay" the subtitles incorrectly show "Ambergris Key". In most of the Caribbean and Central America, "cay" is pronounced "kee" but spelled "cay".
The rolling end credits include "Swing - Victor Hugo" which is also the name of an illustrious French author.
Belize was formerly the colony of British Honduras. One would expect traffic would be on the left side of the road as in Britain. However at about 52 minutes we see a car with the steering wheel on the left as in most of North and Central America. Belizeans do in fact drive on the right side of the road.
