A great bad movie makes you ask, “What did I just see? And when can I see it again?” as opposed to a run-of-the-mill stinker, the kind you wish you’d never watched and will immediately forget that you did. The great bad movies inspire think-pieces, podcasts, watching parties and feverish cult adoration. The regular ones merely wallow in mediocrity. Here’s my alphabetical list of the greatest bad movies the 2010s had to offer:
“Collateral Beauty” (2016)
Will Smith is sad, and his best friends gaslight him by hiring actors to pretend to be Love, Time and Death, but we’re supposed to find their efforts — noble? Charming? None of this makes a lick of sense, but it’s all delivered with hilarious gravitas by the likes of Kate Winslet and Helen Mirren. Make sure to stick around for the shameless third-act twist, and a labored explanation of the title.

Ronald Reagan has been portrayed plenty over the decades, but this year seems to be especially hot for the actor-turned-politician. He is reportedly an actual character in the second season of the Fargo TV series, and now there’s an update on an upcoming biopic about the world leader way before becoming the President of the United States. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie will focus on Reagan’s early years as an actor, through his time as the head of the Screen Actors Guild. That presumably covers the 1940s and 1950s, including his divorce from Jane Wyman and meeting and marriage to Nancy (Davis), but the actor just cast for the lead role in the movie is former Disney Channel star David Henrie (The Wizards of Waverly Place), and he’s only 25. Reagan turned 25 in 1936, a year before he even made his first film appearance in Love is On the Air. More...

Amir here, reporting to box office duty. It was a dead weekend at the multiplex, deader than the dead in Ouija, deader than zombies. Though it was not, strictly speaking, the worst weekend of the year – that honor belongs to the weekend of September 5th, when Guardians of the Galaxy, in its sixth week, topped the chart and the biggest new release was The Identical, a musical with Ray Liotta and Ashley Judd!!! – it was still a terrible weekend.

For Ashley Judd, it's been a tough couple of weekends at the box office. The actress starred with Harry Connick Jr. and Morgan Freeman in the family film “Dolphin Tale 2,” which was projected by analysts to win its opening weekend, but came in with a soft $16.5 million Sunday for Warner Bros. That comes one week after “The Identical,” a Christian-themed indie musical drama in which she starred with Blake Rayne and Ray Liotta, bombed with less than $1.5 million despite being in more than 1,900 theaters. Things didn't get any better this weekend, as “The Identical” brought in just...

The box-office washout of “The Identical” made it four straight misfires for faith-based movies after an unprecedented run of success for religious films earlier this year. The low-budget independent film “The Identical” took in just $1.5 million from 1,956 theaters — a feeble $815 per-screen average — and failed to crack the top ten on the slowest box office weekend of the year. Blake Rayne, Seth Green, Ashley Judd and Ray Liotta star in the musical drama, which was produced for $12 million by Nashville-based City of Peace Films. That comes on the heels of underwhelming box-office performances by “When the...

"The Identical" was the only new wide release movie opening this weekend, so, in the absence of competition, why didn't it do better?
The faith-based film, which follows such recent Christian-marketed hits as "Son of God," "God's Not Dead," and "Heaven Is for Real," opened on 1,956 screens and featured such brand-name actors as Ray Liotta, Ashley Judd, and Seth Green. It featured a provocative premise, loosely inspired by the real-life fact that Elvis Presley had a stillborn twin brother: What if that boy had lived? And its marketplace competition consisted entirely of movies that have been out for a week or more already.
Yet "The Identical" didn't even open in the top 10. Debuting in 11th place, it earned an estimated $1.9 million (well below the $5 million that some pundits had predicted), for a weak per-screen average of just $977. Which means about eight people on average attended each screening. ("Guardians of the Galaxy,...

Guardians of the Galaxy continues to rule the box office universe.
The cosmic Marvel adventure arrived in first place at the box office for a fourth weekend with $10.2 million, according to studio estimates Sunday. The domestic haul for Guardians, which features Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana as intergalactic do-gooders, now stands at $294.6 million after six weeks of release.
Guardians furthered cemented itself as the top grossing film of the year in North America, eclipsing the $259.8 million earned by fellow Marvel movie Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The sci-fi romp earned an additional $11.5 million internationally, bringing its worldwide total to $586.2 million.
Despite the continued success of Guardians, the weekend box office marked the slowest of the year with the total for all films released projected at $65 million, down 23 percent from a year ago, according to Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst for box-office tracker Rentrak.

The weekend after Labor Day is historically the slowest weekend of the year for movies, but this year was worse than usual, with revenue falling more than 20% over last year and continuing the downward trend at the domestic box office. Ticket sales ended up at around $63 million, the lowest of any weekend this year. The only new wide release was the faith-based Elvis musical "The Identical," which has an insanely low 4% fresh rating on RottenTomatoes, and stars Ray Liotta and Ashley Judd. It cost $32 million to make and market, but failed to break into the top 10. The movie landed in 11th place with only $1.91 million. It was released in 1,956 theaters. But if it was released in 2,000 theaters, then it would have had the third-worst opening of all time for a film playing in 2,000 or more locations. Since there weren't many new releases, most films remained in the same spot as last weekend,...

Guardians of the Galaxy claimed the No. 1 spot once more this weekend with an estimated $10.16 million as it makes its way towards the coveted $300 million mark, while the faith-based musical drama The Identical (Cinema Score: B)—the only new wide release—failed to catch on in any significant way, opening in 11th place with a shoddy $1.91 million. The rest of the top five were all holdovers, earning in or around $5 million.
If things seem somewhat unexciting at the box office this weekend, your eyes and untouched movie dollars aren’t deceiving you: It was basically planned to be that way.

Marvel continues to rule the box office, as "Guardians of the Galaxy" stayed in the top spot on Friday, while the new faith-based drama "The Identical" is destined to become one of the biggest flops of the year. Now it its sixth weekend, "Guardians" picked up another $2.7 million on Friday and will likely earn around $10 million over the slow post-Labor Day weekend. Currently at $287.1 million, it will likely cross the $300 million mark sometime next week. The superhero space saga -- starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel -- is already the highest-grossing film of 2014. In second place was the Chloe Grace Moretz romance "If I Stay," which earned another $1.6 million. So far, the low-budget Ya adaptation has earned a strong $35.5 million. The Jake Johnson-Damon Wayans Jr. comedy "Let's Be Cops" arrested another $1.5 million for third place, bringing its domestic total to an impressive $62.7 million.

Seth Green wants you to know that his new movie, The Identical, isn’t about Elvis Presley. It just uses the fact that Elvis had a stillborn twin brother as inspiration for a nature vs. nurture story revolving around musically gifted twins (both played by Blake Rayne) who are unknowingly separated at birth. “It’s a story about what you’re told your life is meant to be versus what you feel in your heart you want to be,” Green says. “It’s about the identity that you choose, not the one that’s projected on you from the teachings...

Did I actually see The Identical, or did I dream it? Despite its competent, polished surfaces, this is a deceptively strange movie: a faith-inflected mock-rock biopic about an Elvis-like phenomenon and his long-lost twin that turns into something of a religious allegory. It's stocked with clichés, but they're arranged in such weird ways that the end result is both predictable and certifiable. If only any of it actually went somewhere. The story begins in the middle of the Depression, with a young, poor couple giving birth to twin boys. Unable to provide for the kids, Dad has the nutty but selfless idea of letting one child go away with a traveling preacher (Ray Liotta), who (awkwardly) reveals during one of his fire-'n'-brimstone sermons that he and his wife (Ashley Judd) can't conceive. And so, Dexter Hemsley (renamed Ray Wade) and his brother Drexel grow up unaware of each other, with...

It’s the first time since 1990 that a major studio, sister classic label, or mini-major hasn’t bowed a frosh wide release in the post-Labor Day frame–quite often the lowest grossing weekend of the year. What would've happened if Elvis Presley's twin brother had survived? That’s essentially the hypothesis of The Identical, the fictional period drama that follows a preacher's son with a deep love and talent for music, but has no idea that a world-famous, Elvis-like musician is actually his twin. Deadline have the latest numbers for the Labour Day weekend, and while this summer's box office takings are down 14.6% from last year, Guardians of the Galaxy came out on top with an impressive $22.9 million from the four day holiday and a whopping $281 million since opening last month. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles performed pretty well this summer too with a total of $166.3 million, but you have to remember that just because the summer is over, neither of these movies will be leaving theatres any time soon. Marvel's latest movie is currently the highest grossing release of 2014 domestically, and some believe it will pass $320 million by the end of its run. Next weekend should help as it faces competition from only The Identical, a pretty crummy sounding movie starring Ray Liotta about what would have happened if Elvis's twin brother had survived. 8th Update, Tuesday, 4:42 Pm: Box office final tallies are in and the summer is off 14.6% from last year. Leading the next weekend will be the two August tentpoles — Guardians of the Galaxy and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which once again, Paramount has a higher gross than others have for it ($11.7M vs. $11.9M). Regardless, it’s such a minimal amount, that we’re keeping with the $166.3M cume for its summer tally. Congrats to Disney/Marvel for having the top film of the season and of the year to date with a newly-established and fun franchise with Guardians. Can’t wait to see the next one.

How are sales going?
Sales are up about 30% this year, but we are working harder than ever. Many of the films that we started pre-selling last year are now completed.
What are your intentions for Cannes?
We're looking to sell the films we are bringing to Cannes, and we're looking to acquire new family, action and animated features.
What is your line-up for Cannes?
Vision Films’ Cannes line-up includes God Loves Caviar, the journey of Ioannis Varvakis from humble Greek pirate to international caviar millionaire with Catherine Deneuve and John Cleese; The Identical, earmarked for a wide screen theatrical release this fall in the U.S. stars Ashley Judd, Seth Green and Ray Liotta and introduces Blake Rayne as the identical twin of the biggest rock star in the world; As Dreamers Do, a bio pic about the early years of Mr. Walt Disney; 10 Things I Hate About You is the sequel to Gil Junger’s 10 Things I Hate About Life starring Evan Rachel Wood and Thomas McDonell; Fear Clinic with Robert Englund (Freddy Krueger) will bring a new meaning to phobias this fall; and Mantervention, a sexy comedy with Chloe Bridges, where Travis Van Winkle shows Nick Roux how to get over his ex and #ontothenext.
Why include globally conscious films in your catalog?
A lot of documentaries make you think. It's important to take a few minutes and look at the world around us. Documentaries traditionally don’t garner as much revenue as feature films, but it makes me feel very good to have them in our catalog. I also feel that if I have this type of product, I'll attract other companies that have the same mission to release films that give back to the world.
We'll always continue to sell good horror or action films, but selling films with good messages makes me very happy at this point in my career.
As far as distribution is concerned, VOD is a good type of niche for this programming. On the long-term view... as the Internet develops, and people have go-to sites for these types of films, it will work. We will be able to develop these channels, bring like-minded communities together, and generate more money for the filmmakers so they can continue to produce these kinds of films.
How did Vision Films start?

Isa's of the Day will be posted regularly during Cannes, but the buzz has already begun with the recent release of the festival lineup -- so expect to see Isa updates over the coming weeks.
The first Isa of the Day is Lise Romanoff, Managing Director and CEO of Worldwide Distribution at Vision Films. Based in Sherman Oaks, California, Vision Films is an independent Worldwide Sales Agent and VOD Aggregator of over 500 Feature Films, 500 Documentaries and 100 different Music Programs from some of the most prolific independent film producers in the world.
In early 2013, Vision Films expanded into the world of domestic distribution with the creation of their own DVD/ VOD label, releasing films day-and-date on DVD and VOD through all cable and digital platforms such as Comcast, Directv, Dish, At&T, iTunes and Amazon, and retailers including RedBox, Walmart, Best Buy and Target. It is one of the few independent companies with a worldwide presence to also have a domestic division. Vision Films works directly with all its platforms and has no middlemen, releasing at least 2 - 3 titles on DVD and 3 - 4 titles on VOD every month.
Since opening their doors as a DVD/ VOD label, Vision Films has released an array of independent feature films including Hamlet And Hutch with Burt Reynolds; Wreckers, a coming-of-age story starring Benedict Cumberbatch; The Employer, an intense thriller starring Malcolm McDowell; Contract Killers is a non-stop martial arts action picture; and Sunset Strip, a music and pop culture documentary that chronicles Strip from its origins in the 1920s through today featuring Slash, Johnny Depp, Mickey Rourke, Dan Aykroyd, Keanu Reeves, Ozzy Osbourne, Hugh Hefner, and music from Jane’s Addiction, Smashing Pumpkins, and more.
The Vision Films catalog also has stories of global consciousness, including Comedy Warriors, a documentary where Zach Galifianakis, Lewis Black and Bob Saget help disabled soldiers heal through humor by teaching them stand-up comedy; Finding Happiness by Ted Nicholaou, a spiritual journey starring Elisabeth Röhm; Femme: Women Healing The World with Sharon Stone by Emmanuel Itier; and Shirin In Love, a romantic comedy starring Nazanin Boniadi by Ramin Niami about a quirky Iranian-American young woman who goes against tradition to follow her heart.
Lise Romanoff recently took the time to speak with SydneysBuzz:
What are buyers looking for?
2014 has been a vibrant year! Buyers are looking for product that can play across all channels of distribution: Theatrical, Home Video, VOD and Television. VOD has opened up a lot of doors for “niche” product because the Internet is the best way to find a specific fan base. We are offering star-studded feature films and top-notch documentaries that entertain and inspire. We attend all of the film markets, as well as the TV markets, and even the specialty territory-specific regional markets.
Where are the strongest markets?
U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia, Germany, France, Italy and Japan are the strongest countries, but for the most part, sales are evenly spread around the world.

Looking a little tired but still eager to chat, Ray Liotta sat down with us recently at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City to talk about co-starring in The Iceman, his new movie centered around notorious contract killer Richard Kuklinski (Michael Shannon).
Liotta also spoke about being typecast as a gangster and the sad fact that he really doesn’t have a favorite Muppet. Read on!
Dread Central: So, Ray, what drew you to this role? What did you like about the film?
Ray Liotta: They offered it to me; I wasn’t sure I wanted to do it. [Director] Ariel [Vromen] really hadn’t done anything, but there was something that intrigued me. Michael Shannon was already cast and I didn’t really know his work that well. So I looked at some of his stuff and then met with Ariel and I liked him so I said all right.
