Gerard Butler is re-teaming with the director of Den Of Thieves, this time to save one of the world’s most iconic buildings in Empire State.
You might have thought that there was nothing left for Geostorm star Gerard Butler to save. The world. The US President. A plane full of people. His family, when the pesky wider world wouldn’t play ball and refused to be saved.
Let’s face it, the list of things that Gerard Butler has saved is longer than the list of things he hasn’t saved. And with the production of Empire State now confirmed, the list of things Gerard Butler hasn’t saved will grow even shorter.
According to Deadline, the film will be a comedic action-thriller that will see ‘the Empire State Building coming under attack by a military contractor hellbent on revenge.’

That being said, after hearing reports of this very upcoming action movie of his, a lot of fans seem to know already what to expect to see from it!

Gerard Butler has had a varied career so far, with him playing everything from action leads to rom-com love interests to a singing Phantom of the Opera. But, it has to be said that his most consistently entertaining output falls squarely into the action genre, and as far as Gerard Butler movies go, the action films will always be our favorites… so don’t expect to see The Ugly Truth on this list, but The Bounty Hunter might scrape by. Or maybe not. Let’s see how it goes:
300 (2006)
Perhaps The film that put Gerard Butler on the map for most people, particularly the action and comic book crowds. Butler is in peek physical form here, showing off his bod as the ultimate Spartan warrior and proving that he is indeed quite the leading man. His performance here is commanding, a bit in your face (in the right way), and exactly what the film needed.

Is this now an age of TV caution? A brace of big swings at this week’s London TV Screenings belie that trend, and few come bigger than the English-language action thriller “Paris Has Fallen,” which Studiocanal launches at this week’s London TV Screenings.
Like other major Ltvs plays, it takes a mainstream genre – such as, elsewhere, the historical drama (“Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light”), true crime (“A Cruel Love: The Ruth Ellis Story”) and the bio – and aims to elevate them to another level.
This is Studiocanal’s biggest TV production of 2024. “‘Paris Has Fallen’ has ambition, scale and production values that I haven’t see in so many series,” says Anne Chérel, EVP global sales and distribution at Studiocanal.
Such scale comes with its backers. Produced by London-based Studiocanal production company Urban Myth Films (“War of the Worlds”), Studiocanal and Millennium and Butler’s G-Base,...

They only come along every once in a blue moon: the dueling movies. 1998 was an especially unusual year in that it saw two of them hitting theaters, with killer asteroid films "Deep Impact" and "Armageddon" going head-to-head within the same 12-month span as the animated insect flicks "Antz" and "A Bug's Life." There haven't been too many since then, save for the clash of the White House action-thrillers in 2013 with "Olympus Has Fallen" and "White House Down." Now, 2024 is bringing us the next big showdown between movies with remarkably similar premises.

It would appear that the King of Modern Trash Cinema™ is on his way to becoming the King of Modern Trash Shared Universes: Deadline is reporting that Gerard Butler's "Has Fallen" franchise is headed to the small screen, even as a fourth movie centered on Butler's Secret Service Agent Mike Banning continues to move forward.
The Scottish thespian and "300" actor -- whose many, many B-movie credits include "Law Abiding Citizen," "Den of Thieves," and this year's marvelously-titled "Plane" -- made his debut as Banning in Antoine Fuqua's "Olympus Has Fallen." Fuqua's modestly-successful action flick pitted Banning, a U.S. government agent haunted by a past failure on the job, against a North Korean-backed attack on the White House, making it one of two "Die Hard" riffs set in the Oval Office that released in 2013 (with the other being Roland Emmerich's arguably superior "White House Down...

The spiritual successor to the classic action film franchises of yesteryear will live on as a TV show. The Has Fallen series, which includes Olympus Has Fallen, London Has Fallen, and Angel Has Fallen, all having starred Gerard Butler, is set to have a television adaptation titled Paris Has Fallen. The show is already due to start its production at the end of the month, according to Deadline. Principle photography will take place in London and France, starting on May 30.
The series will not have Gerard Butler as the star, although there is no ruling out any cameos, especially since Butler will be a producer on the project through his production company, G-Base. Instead, French filmmaker and actor Mathieu Kassovitz will be starring in the action vehicle. According to the synopsis from Deadline, “Kassovitz will star as Vincent, a protection officer to a French Minister, who is the target of...

Nobody sets out to make a movie that will fail, be it a tiny independent production or the biggest of big blockbusters from a major studio. On the flip side, occasionally arrogance of a sort sets in and there is an element of presumed success with a film, and those projects -- more often than not -- feel doomed to fail. Such was the case with Lionsgate's 2016 big-budget fantasy play "Gods of Egypt," which bombed spectacularly upon its initial release. Yet, lofty ambitions existed as this was eyed as just the first entry in a brand new franchise. Before it all went to hell, that is.
The film, directed by Alex Proyas, cost a whopping $140 million to produce before marketing, putting it firmly in gigantic blockbuster territory. But it made a paltry $31 million in total at the domestic box office and topped out at $150 million worldwide. Per Variety, Lionsgate...

Now, in 2023, we see Butler’s name on a film and we already know what to expect.

Chicago – It’s Oscar Week, as the 95th Academy Awards will be broadcast on Sunday, March 12th, 2023, on ABC-tv. Nominated for Best Supporting Actress is Angela Bassett for “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” her second nomination after “What’s Love Got to Do with It?” in 1994.
After earning her Masters Degree at the Yale School of Drama in the 1980s, Bassett took to the New York stage, most notably in two of August Wilson’s “Pittsburgh Cycle” plays. She expanded with parts in film and TV, including “Boyz in the Hood” (1991). Breakthrough recognition would come in the next couple of years, as Bassett co-starred with Denzel Washington in “Malcolm X” (as Malcolm’s wife Betty Shabazz) and her Oscar nominated role as Tina Turner in “What’s Love Got to Do with It” (1993).

Gerard Butler is known for starring in action-packed movies like 300 and Olympus Has Fallen. His most recent role starring in the movie Plane looks to be a worthy addition to the actor’s filmography. However, the title’s simplicity has been seen as questionable or even laughable. Butler, meanwhile, has recently come out in defense of the film’s name.
The ‘Plane’ title has been the subject of jokes Gerard Butler and Mike Colter at the ‘Plane’ New York screening | Jamie McCarthy/Getty Images
In Plane, Gerard Butler stars as the pilot of the titular plane and is forced to make an emergency landing on an island. While a plane certainly plays a major role in the film, basing the entire title around this plane may seem odd. Plane is a remarkably simple name, and it could be viewed as way too basic to set this movie apart from other films.

Gerard Butler, the man that lives his film life (lately above all) this time around saves some passengers from the dangers in the jungle and their hostile inhabitants
About the Movie
This man who seems to be wearing blockbuster on his t-shirt, knows what he is doing and, although he tried his luck (with Katherine Heigl in The Ugly Truth) in romance, seems to fare better in living in danger and saving lives with his rough yet effective style.
Plane (2023)
Butler is not the kind of guy to be delivering kicks, his style is more about adapting to a situation and thanks to his kindness and his luck, saving the world like that because he can.

In a short 11-film career Indian actor Varun Tej has already made an impact and is set to soar with his next two projects.
Tej headlines the cast of an as-yet-untitled project set in the world of the Indian Air Force, backed by Sony Pictures International Productions and Renaissance Pictures, that will take off in two months time. Seasoned commercials maker and cinematographer Shakti Pratap Singh Hada makes his directorial debut with the film, which will be Tej’s 13th.
“It based on some true events that happened between Pakistan and India. And though there have been a lot of war films, this is a story which I wanted to tell the audience and just try to show what it takes to be sitting in a fighter flight. We are really looking forward to it,” Tej told Variety. “We’re talking to a few Air Force pilots, trying to understand their psyche.

Morgan Freeman has joined the cast of Taylor Sheridan’s upcoming drama series “Lioness” at Paramount+, Variety has confirmed.
“Lioness” is based on a real-life CIA program. Per the official series description, it follows “Cruz Manuelos (Laysla De Oliveira), a rough-around-the-edges but passionate young Marine recruited to join the CIA’s Lioness Engagement Team to help bring down a terrorist organization from within.”
The cast also includes Zoe Saldaña, Jill Wagner, Dave Annable, Lamonica Garrett, James Jordan, Austin Hébert, Hannah Love Lanier, Stephanie Nur, and Jonah Wharton. Variety previously reported that Nicole Kidman will also appear in the series in addition to executive producing.
Freeman will play Edwin Mullins, the U.S. Secretary of State. Interestingly, this is not the first time Freeman has played a high-ranking member of the U.S. government. He previously played the U.S. President in the film “Deep Impact,” and the Speaker of the House...

January movies suck. Right? At least that’s always been the conventional wisdom. Just as movies released in the second half of August and early September are considered to be weak stragglers and cast-offs after the summer rush, the post-holiday haze of the very beginning of a New Year is supposed to be the same kind of repository for the trash that isn’t awards-worthy or good enough to spend a lot of marketing dollars on. After all, the kids are back in school, no one has money, so who cares?
The truth of the matter, however, is that over the years January has gradually shed its stigma of being a cinematic burial site. Now that doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty of garbage shoved onto multiplex screens during the first month of the year—far from it. But as two recent examples show, January can be just as...

Marketing can sometimes be a mysterious thing. There are dozens of reasons studios may want to highlight certain aspects of a film over others, and the result can occasionally end up as a campaign that doesn't accurately reflect the actual movie being promoted.
Thankfully, "Plane" doesn't have that problem. This movie is exactly what's being advertised.
Gerard Butler ("Olympus Has Fallen") plays an airline pilot trying to get home to his daughter in time to celebrate New Year's Eve with her, but his commercial flight gets a pair of surprise last-minute passengers: An FBI agent and the man he's transporting, a potentially dangerous convict played by Mike Colter ("Luke Cage"). When the flight runs into a storm and the plane goes down on an island run by separatists and militias, the captain and the criminal must work together to protect the surviving passengers. It's a fun, straightforward, down-and-dirty B-movie that...

Gerard Butler had a tragic accident while filming “Plane.”
During the shoot of Lionsgate’s newest high-flying action movie “Plane,” Butler unintentionally rubbed phosphoric acid all over his face and described the terrible sensation of feeling like he was “burning alive.”

Butler discussed the incident at a “Late Night” with Seth Meyers appearance and how it occurred while he was filming “Plane” in Puerto Rico.
“I’m rubbing my face and, suddenly, it’s in my throat. It’s in my mouth. It’s up my nose. It’s in my eyes,” Butler told host Seth Meyers. “It’s burning my face, and I mean burning.”
“It turns out this is essentially phosphoric acid,” he continued. “And the airline pilots that were there watching go, ‘No!'”

If you've gone to the movies over the past few months, you've likely seen a trailer for the new action-thriller "Plane." It inadvertently became a joke not because of anything in the preview per se, but because of its simplistic title revelation. But you know what? Having seen it, not only does the movie live up to its namesake, but it's a surprisingly fun throwback that makes great use of Gerard Butler ("Greenland") and Mike Colter ("Luke Cage").
When a flight to Tokyo in the film is forced to make an emergency landing on a remote island in the Philippines after lightning knocks out the control panels, it leaves Captain Brodie Torrance (Butler) and his flight crew to keep the shaken passengers calm until they can figure out a rescue plan. There's just one problem. Their impromptu runway is on Jolo, a remote island in the Philippines that just so...

That have been many reports indicating Robert Downey Jr. is every bit as cool in real life as he seems onscreen and Gerard Butler is here to verify that.
In an interview with Uproxx, Butler discusses his new film “Plane”, which he describes as “a throwback. It’s got the ’90s action movie vibe. They used to make movies like this all the time, but they don’t anymore.”
Butler likened “Plane” to “Olympus Has Fallen” and its two sequels in terms of its “vibe” and recalled that he received a very kind message from the “Iron Man” star after the release of the first film in the trilogy.
“Well, it’s funny because Robert Downey Jr. wrote me the nicest email after ‘Olympus Has Fallen’,” Butler explained.
“This is the same vibe. He’s like, ‘We need more of these movies.’ These are the movies, when I was in New York as a kid,...
