Paramount Global is pulling the plug on the standalone streaming version of its multiplex movie network Showtime.
The Showtime app will stop functioning on April 30, several months after Paramount integrated Showtime’s film and television content into the premium tier of Paramount Plus. The two flagship Showtime linear channels — Showtime East and Showtime West — were also rebranded to Paramount Plus with Showtime in January.
“Now that subscribers can access their favorite Showtime programs on Paramount Plus by subscribing to the Paramount Plus with Showtime plan, the Showtime streaming service will shut down on April 30, 2024,” a Paramount spokesperson said in a note to customers published earlier this month.
Paramount has allowed current monthly and annual Showtime subscribers to continue paying for an accessing the service for weeks after Showtime content was integrated into Paramount Plus.

If you’re still clinging to the Showtime app, you’ll need to pivot at the end of the month. Paramount is sunsetting the standalone service. If you’d like to continue watching its shows and movies, you should switch to the Paramount+ with Showtime app.

The world of Ray Donovan is expanding. Paramount+ has ordered a spin-off series loosely based on the Showtime series titled The Donovans. Guy Ritchie is behind the new 10-episode drama, which will follow two generations of gangsters, their businesses, their complex relationships, and the man they call to fix their problems.
After seven seasons, Ray Donovan was cancelled on Showtime four years ago, but viewers saw more of Ray in a wrap-up film in January 2022. It's not yet known if that show's star, Liev Schreiber, will somehow be part of the new series.

Paramount Global’s earnings in the fourth quarter edged Wall Street forecasts, but a double-digit slide in advertising dragged down total revenue by 6%.
Revenue came in at $7.6 billion, while earnings totaled 4 cents a share. Analysts had expected a loss of 1 cent per share, but revenue of $7.84 billion.
Linear TV advertising, which faced tough comparisons with the midterm-election-boosted 2022 frame, declined 15% to $2.28 billion. The dual strikes of 2023 also affected the pipeline at CBS and other networks, further squeezing ad sales.

As promised in January, Paramount Global is taking steps to sunset the standalone Showtime streamer before the end of 2023.
The integration of Showtime into the larger Paramount+ streaming world is one step closer to being complete as Paramount Global has seemingly eliminated the ability for new customers to sign up for the standalone subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) version of the premium cable channel. Not only is the Showtime streamer no longer available via the channel’s website, but it has also disappeared from Prime Video Channels as well.
In June, the ad-free tier of Paramount+ was rebranded Paramount+ with Showtime. At the time, Paramount said that it would be sunsetting the standalone Showtime streamer later in the year. While existing customers will still have access for the time being, the only way to sign up for the service is now via Paramount+. Save $20 Now $5.99+ / month paramountplus.com

During a recent Gold Derby video interview, news and features editor Ray Richmond spoke in-depth with Liev Schreiber about his role in the eight-part, Holocaust-themed limited series “A Small Light” from National Geographic, which is eligible at the 2023 Emmy Awards. Watch the full video above and read the complete interview transcript below.
By his own admission, Liev Schreiber wasn’t particularly eager to go back to work. He had spent eight years starring in the Showtime series “Ray Donovan” and was “really enjoying” being off and being home with his kids. But when he was sent the script for the National Geographic eight-part limited series “A Small Light” just before making his second trip to Ukraine in support of that nation’s war against Russia, he realized he couldn’t say no.

Hank Azaria has built his career on two pillars: as a voice artist on “The Simpsons” and as a guest on a slew of hit shows from “Friends” to “Ray Donovan.” And with his recent turn on the fifth and final season of Amazon Prime Video’s “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” Azaria has delivered another masterclass in guest-acting.
“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” follows Rachel Brosnahan as the titular Miriam “Midge” Maisel, who embarks on a career in stand-up comedy after her husband (Michael Zegen) leaves her. Over the show’s five seasons, she experiences the ups and downs of said career with the help of her manager, Susie Myerson (Alex Borstein). Toward the end of season five, Midge is closer to seeing her career truly take off as she works in TV after she is hired to write for “The Gordon Ford Show” in the season premiere. And that’s where Azaria comes in.

Netflix has renewed Rana Naidu, the Indian adaptation of Showtime’s hit crime drama Ray Donovan, for a second season.
Rana Naidu‘s first season, which launched on March 10, held Netflix’s no. 1 spot as the most-watched series in India for its first three weeks of release. The show continues to rank among the streamer’s top 10 series in India and previously trended in global top 10 for non-English TV shows for two weeks.
Much like Ray Donovan, which famously stars Liev Schreiber, the Indian show follows the titular character Rana Naidu (played by Rana Daggubati), who makes a living by fixing the messes left behind by his famous clients. Famed as India’s go-to “fixer of the stars,” Naidu nevertheless struggles to cope with his own domestic situation, thanks to a fraught relationship with his wife and two children.

When the Writers Guild of America announced their 2023 nominations, the Episodic Drama category featured installments from juggernaut contenders “Better Call Saul” and “Ozark” and breakout series “Bad Sisters” and “Severance.” It also featured one surprise — and absolutely inspired — entry: the series finale of Paramount+’s “The Good Fight.” Written by series co-creators Michelle King and Robert King, the episode is the first of this critically-acclaimed legal drama and political satire to earn a nomination from the guild. Could that unexpected bid signal another surprise nomination at the upcoming Emmy Awards?
Both the WGA and the Emmys have certainly shown their appreciation for the Kings before for “The Good Wife,” the predecessor series to “The Good Fight.” At the Emmys, they earned their first Drama Writing nomination for the pilot back in 2010 and a bookend bid for the series finale “End” in 2016. "Power Book II: Ghost" is known for throwing viewers a curveball (or several) now and then, and season three, which premiered on March 17, is no exception. So far, new characters have been introduced, while one has reappeared after being seemingly killed off. But viewers are saddened to see that one familiar face hasn't returned for the new season.
Season two of the hit Starz drama introduced defense attorney Davis MacLean's (Method Man) brother, Theo Rollins, who's in prison for taking the fall for a manslaughter charge for the crooked lawyer. That season, Theo was played by Redman, the rap icon and well-known Method Man collaborator.

After “Ray Donovan: The Movie,” it looks like we’re getting “Ray Donovan,” the spinoffs. The Showtime series, which ran from 2013 to 2020 with a movie in 2022, may be getting resurrected — again — at the premium cable network and Paramount+, according to a comment from Paramount Global President Bob Bakish.
In other words, Bakish is looking to give the Liev Schreiber crime drama the “Billions” and “Dexter” treatment.
Bakish, while speaking Wednesday at the 2023 Morgan Stanley Technology, Media and Telecom Conference about Paramount’s future plans for Showtime, said the channel/brand will focus on giving audience members a smaller slate that provides them what they want. “Maybe” that’s more “Ray Donovan,” he said.
“You could think about the slate as smaller, which will be less expensive, but also really giving the people what they want,” Bakish said. “Which is more Showtime, maybe more ‘Dexter,’ maybe more ‘Ray Donovan,’ and really leaning into that.

“Emancipation” director Antoine Fuqua wanted music that was spiritual but yet untraditional: a tall order for composer Marcelo Zarvos, doing their fifth film together.
“The bar was very high on this one,” Zarvos tells Variety about the Will Smith escape-from-slavery saga. “It’s so relevant and so momentous for the times that we’re living in; it looks back but also shines a light on our current society.”
The Brazilian-born composer – whose other films include Fuqua’s “Brooklyn’s Finest” and “The Guilty” as well as TV’s “Ray Donovan” – employed a traditional orchestra and choir but treated them in unusual and dramatically effective ways.
“There’s definitely a lot of orchestra, but with a lot of detuning, especially in the low-end brass, and it creates a real sense of unease,” Zarvos explains, finding this technique especially useful in the scenes of brutality and as Fassel (Ben Foster) is pursuing...

Rajamouli’s Rrr, South Indian star Rana Daggubati was part of the first wave of Telugu cinema to sweep the globe – starring in Rajamouli’s Baahubali: The Beginning and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, in which he played the bad guy, Bhallaladeva.

David Nevins’ surprise exit as the top executive at Showtime Networks after an impressive 12-year run signals a troubled path forward for the premium cable channel as a standalone brand in the streaming-first, consolidation-focused industry, insiders said.
Nevins, who was promoted only a year ago to chief content officer for all Showtime and Paramount+ scripted originals, last week announced his plans to depart a company that, according to one individual with knowledge of the corporate culture, has become overrun with “powerful bros” jockeying for position under CEO Bob Bakish. But the underlying business prospects for Showtime remain challenging, especially without Nevins to champion the brand.
“This should be the curtain call for Showtime,” David Offenberg, an associate professor of finance at Loyola Marymount University focusing on the entertainment business, told TheWrap. “As Paramount Global works to rebrand under the Paramount name and shift focus to the revenue streams of the future,...
