Ron Shelton has written some of the most well-known and beloved sports films in movie history. The writer behind such classics like Bull Durham and White Men Can't Jump as well as recent films like Tin Cup and Cobb, Shelton had faded away from his bread and butter taking on the role of Hollywood script doctor over the years. After an eight year hiatus, he returned with the TV movie, Hound Dogs last year, but now it seems Shelton has returned back to the genre that made him a Hollywood name. Variety reports that Shelton has written an officially licensed NFL drama that chronicles the last three weeks of the NFL season as seen through the eyes of fictional players, coaches and their significant others. Titled Week 14, the script is currently being shopped around with hopes that...

Exclusive: I hear TBS is close to giving a series order to hourlong pilot The Wedding Band starring Brian Austin Green, Peter Cambor and Harold Perrineau. I also hear that the network's other two one-hour pilots, Ron Shelton's Hound Dogs and the Dean Devlin-produced Brain Trust, are not going forward. Along with the broadcast networks, TNT and TBS are also prepping for their upfront presentation next week. TBS is expected to officially unveil The Wedding Band at the Turner presentation Wednesday. The Wedding Band, from writers and executive producers Josh Lobis and Darin Moiselle (South Park), FremantleMedia and Mike Tollin's Tollin Prods., follows a group of guys performing in a wedding band, anchored by two lifelong best friends -- perennial bachelor Tommy (Brian Austin Green) and Eddie (Peter Cambor), a married father of two. Co-starring in the pilot are Lost alum Perrineau, Kathryn Fiore, Jenny Wade and Derek Miller.

All the pilot casting that's fit to print:
Kiefer Sutherland has officially said "yes" to starring in Fox's drama pilot "Touch," from "Heroes" creator Tim Kring. Word that the "24" star was in talks for the project got out last week, but there was some question about when "Touch" would shoot since Sutherland is currently on Broadway in a revival of "That Championship Season." That's been cleared up: The pilot will likely shoot in early June, which means "Touch" would probably be in the mix for a midseason spot in 2011-12. [Hollywood Reporter]
Former Joss Whedon regular Alan Tudyk ("Firefly," "Dollhouse") has been banished to "Suburgatory." Tudyk will co-star in the ABC comedy pilot about a teenager (Jane Levy) who has to move from Manhattan to the 'burbs with her dad. Tudyk will play an old friend of the father and a long-time suburbanite. [Deadline]

Next Sunday, Geoffrey Rush could be on stage at L.A.’s Kodak Theatre collecting his second Oscar for The King’s Speech, but this week he began treading the boards at the Brooklyn Academy of Music as a midcentury Russian paper pusher who’s losing his marbles in The Diary of a Madman. EW stage editor Thom Geier finds the Tony-winner (for 2009’s Exit the King) a “superlative stage actor” and “a gifted physical comedian.” He gives the show an A- review, writing that “Rush rules the stage with utter fearlessness, shuttlecocking between low comedy and high tragedy with remarkable skill and bouncy energy.

Taylor Kinney, best known for his role as werewolf Mason Lockwood on Vampire Diaries, has become the first actor cast in Michael Patrick King's drama pilot for NBC A Mann's World. In the vein of Shampoo, the project centers on a straight Beverly Hills hairdresser in his 50s who is struggling to stay young and relevant in a place where looks are everything.
