Back in January, the news broke that a series based on Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips' Eisner Award-winning comic book, Criminal, is in development for Amazon Prime Video, and the project has now added another lead cast member.
Joining Richard Jenkins as Ivan will be Adria Arjona as Greta Watson (they appear to have dropped a "t" from the character's first name for some reason).
This take on Greta is described as “a sharp-tongued top-level car thief and driver and the widowed mother of Angie. Ever since her husband died in a bank job gone bad, Greta has been battling with herself about how to escape the only life she’s ever known – and the only place she’s ever thrived. It used to be said that every movie, no matter how badly it did at the box office or critically, went to heaven. Heaven, of course, meant physical media. First, it was VHS, then it was Laserdisc, then DVD, Blu-ray, and now 4K Blu-rays; every movie would get some kind of physical media release. After all, rentals and sales were important to a film’s profitability. In fact, some movies that tanked theatrically did so well on DVD that they became perennials, such as Donnie Darko or The Transporter, with the DVD sales of that movie directly influencing the studio to greenlight a sequel and give Jason Statham a legit career as an action star. Yet, despite physical media making a comeback, it’s worth noting that some of the most popular movies in recent memory have never gotten a physical media release. And we’re not only talking about...

In case you missed it, Triple Frontier was released on Netflix in March 2019. The big-budget action movie starred Ben Affleck, Oscar Isaac, Charlie Hunnam, Adria Arjona, and Pedro Pascal, who played former special forces operatives uniting to steal a drug lord’s fortune. Now, nearly five years later, it looks like a sequel might be on the way.
The movie did relatively well for Netflix despite not being a slam dunk by any stretch. Rumors of a sequel have circled for years, but this year, it looks like plans have been put in place for a sequel.
Our sources told us that development began on Triple Frontier 2 just before the strikes began in May 2023, and midway through the strikes, we got told that the plan was to continue with development following the end of the strikes, which thankfully came to an end in November.

Triple Frontier 2: Charlie Hunnam confirms he’s producing a sequel to Netflix’s 2019 action thriller
Charlie Hunnam could be heading back into enemy territory for Triple Frontier 2, a sequel to the J.C. Chandor-directed action thriller. In 2019’s Triple Frontier, loyalties are tested when five friends and former special forces operatives reunite to take down a South American drug lord, unleashing unintended consequences. According to Hunnam, he’s producing another Triple Frontier movie, though the project is in its early stage of development.
Speaking with The Mary Sue at a Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire press event, Hunnam revealed his intentions for a potential sequel, saying the project is in its “absolute infancy.” Hunnam added, “Nothing guaranteed, but I just set up recently as the main producer on a potential sequel to Triple Frontier at Netflix.”
Hunnam plays William ‘Ironhead’ Miller in Triple Frontier, opposite Garrett Hedlund as his brother, Ben Miller. Meanwhile, Ben Affleck stars as Tom ‘Redfly’ Davis, with Oscar Isaac...

It’s difficult to quantify the viewership numbers for streaming films. All we really get are first-party numbers from the streamers directly, which are always used in a complimentary way. Basically, no streamer is going to admit a film horrifically bombed. That said, it’s clear when a streaming film isn’t a monumental cultural moment, as was the case with the 2019 film, “Triple Frontier.” Though it had solid viewership numbers, per Netflix, the action film wasn’t a runaway hit like “Extraction,” for example.

Have you seen "Triple Frontier"? In case you haven't watched this action-adventure on Netflix yet, now is the time! Released in 2019, "Triple Frontier" received mostly positive reviews from critics, who deemed it special enough to stand out in the oversaturated heist/thriller genre, despite sporting an uneven tone. So, why is this film suddenly making a resurgence 4 years later? This might have to do with the fact that the film stars the likes of Pedro Pascal, Ben Affleck, and Oscar Isaac — with anticipation surrounding Pascal's return in shows like "The Mandalorian" and "The Last of Us," coupled with the announcement that he's in the run to play Reed Richards in the upcoming "Fantastic Four." "Triple Frontier" has recently found a place in Netflix's Global Top 10 list.

Turns out, it wasn’t much of a challenge at all.
“Squid Game: The Challenge” dominated Netflix’s overall leaderboard in its debut week, when it drew 20.1 million views. The unscripted competition series picked up where the I.P. left off in 2021, bumping Part 1 of “The Crown’s” sixth season to second place (8.8 million views) for the week of November 20, 2023.
“Squid Game: The Challenge,” filmed in the UK, is an English-language series; Og “Squid Game” was a Korean-language series dubbed into local languages. As such, the scripted show technically rests atop Netflix’s “Non-English” list, though it blows away all the English-language stuff anyway.
“The Challenge” was so big it brought “Squid Game” back to the Global Top 10 for non-english series — at no. 6 with 1.6 million views — its 21st appearance. The scripted show hadn’t made the list since the week ending June 19, 2022. The long Thanksgiving holiday weekend sure helped the streams pile up.

Perhaps the biggest movie news of the week dropped a few days ago, which is that Pedro Pascal has been cast as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic in Marvel Studios' upcoming "Fantastic Four" film. After breaking out as Oberyn Martell on "Game of Thrones," Pascal has been a part of other major projects like "Narcos," "Wonder Woman 1984," "The Mandalorian," and "The Last of Us." By joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is Pascal at risk of becoming overexposed?
Perhaps not. As /Film's Ryan Scott points out on today's episode of the /Film Daily podcast, Pascal is a terrific performer, but his past few years have not exactly been overflowing with hits. "The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent," in which he co-starred opposite Nicolas Cage, made less than $30 million worldwide. "The Bubble," "We Can Be Heroes," and "Triple Frontier" quickly disappeared into the Netflix netherworld. "The Last of Us" seemed like a big deal,...

Based on a 2001 Texas Monthly article by Skip Hollandsworth, Richard Linklater’s breezily amusing “Hit Man” — one of those laugh-light comedies that bills itself as “a somewhat true story” — begins with a premise that requires a greater suspension of disbelief than many people might be able to muster.
Can you believe that a straight-laced New Orleans college professor named Gary Johnson, a sexless birder who lives alone with his cats and drives a Honda Civic, could start moonlighting as a phony hit man for the local police? Sure. Can you believe, as we’re told, that Gary is so good at luring customers into confessing their intended crimes because his face is as forgettable as his name? Maybe, but it would probably be less of a stretch if Gary weren’t played by “Top Gun: Maverick” star Glen Powell, who is plainly one of the most handsome and charismatic human...

Sony’s Kraven the Hunter stars Aaron Taylor Johnson as Sergei Kravinoff, Spider-Man’s number-one rival. Long gone are the days where Oscar Isaac would earn a credit as Interesting Person #1. Now in his second outing as Miguel O’Hara aka Spider-Man 2099 – a character who first appeared in Marvel’s 2099 imprint – Isaac is ready to share the wealth. And considering the insane amount of Spider-People there are in the Spider-Verse, surely he can put in a good word for his pal Pedro Pascal.
Speaking with GQ, Oscar Isaac said he would like to have Pedro Pascal join the Spider-Verse, even sure he can help choose his character. “They’re so brilliant at finding the right person for the right character, but maybe Pedro Pascal [should join the cast]. Let’s find something for him. He should be a Spider-Person, like a cranky, old Spider-Person.” Although Pascal doesn’t have too many voice acting credits on his resume, he would surely give it his all. Pedro Pascal and Oscar Isaac's friendship goes way back - seriously; the duo met before they were even famous. Pascal and Isaac actually appeared in an off-Broadway play together in 2005. They later worked together on 2019's "Triple Frontier," and eventually, Pascal joined Isaac in the Star Wars universe.
"We have very similar backgrounds," Pascal told Esquire in April 2022 about their bond. "We're both children of Latin immigrants, so there's sort of a cultural familiarity, then at the same time we're both actors. We have the same dreams. It's something very special because it can be a lonely journey when you're out there going after - it sounds corny, but going after your dreams, and to find family along the way." Pascal joked, "The other side of it is that he's the younger brother I never wanted."
Pascal also addressed their friendship in a January 2023 interview with Wired. "I met...

Oscar Isaac knows exactly who he wants to star as a character and voice in the next Spider-Verse film.
When asked during a recent interview with British GQ who he would love to see join the cast for the next movie, the actor said that while production is “brilliant at finding the right person for the right character,” he would suggest his friend and The Last of Us star Pedro Pascal.
“Let’s find something for him,” Isaac added, who voices Miguel O’Hara in the latest animated film in the franchise, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. “He should be a Spider-Person, like a cranky, old Spider-Person.”
Earlier this year, Pascal told Wired that he met Isaac when they were doing a play together in 2005. He added, “An off-Broadway show where we were getting $500 a week, before taxes.”
The two have been friends ever since, even starring in 2019’s Triple Frontier together.

The internet can’t get enough of two Star Wars franchise alums, Pedro Pascal and Oscar Isaac. The pair both carried the banner for the series separately, with Pascal on television and Isaac on the film side. Despite their characters being so far apart in time and space in that fictional universe, though, the pair are extremely close friends in real life.
Their careers have brought them to very different places, over the years, but to similar destinations. Pascal worked his way up the primetime drama ladder before breaking out in film, while Isaac spent much of his time grinding in indie dramas. But they always stay in touch, and even though they rarely appear on screen together, they can barely get through interviews without mentioning each other.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson beamed in to Las Vegas’ CinemaCon on Monday to show the first footage from his anticipated Marvel film “Kraven the Hunter” — an ultraviolent spree of blood and throbbing biceps that pleased the annual convention of theater owners.
Taylor-Johnson called the J.C. Chandor-directed project “a Marvel movie grounded heavily in the real world. We know he is a fierce hunter, a highly trained killer.” He then gave an answer to what he deemed “the internet’s biggest question” — whether the film would receive an R-rating.
“Fuck yeah, it will be rated R,” the star said to huge applause from the Colosseum Theater at Caesars Palace Hotel and Casino.
In the world premiere footage, Taylor-Johnson’s Kraven is a tactical stalker with a penchant for cropped leather vests and five-star hair. He shreds his victims viscerally, often with primitive claw-shaped weapons. Blood pours freely over the screen and, at one intense moment,...

Bidding farewell to a character after a popular TV show comes to an end can be a difficult challenge. This was certainly the case for Charlie Hunnam, who found it hard to let go of his role as Jax Teller on the popular biker drama Sons of Anarchy.
For Hunnam, the experience was akin to going through a real-life grieving process, which only added to the emotional strain of saying goodbye to a beloved character.

It has been over eight years since Sons of Anarchy ended with Jax’s tragic demise, and fans of the show may recall the time Hunnam reminisced about saying goodbye to the iconic character.
In a video on Instagram, Hunnam revealed that he experienced a lot of grief after filming his final scene as Jax.

“It is amazing to be here,” said Pedro Pascal in his first “Saturday Night Live” performance: a triumphant Season 48 episode for the sketch show, cross-promoting the actor/host’s hugely successful parts on Disney’s “The Mandalorian” and HBO’s “The Last of Us.”
“I was born in Chile and nine months later my parents fled Pinochet with me and my sister to the US,” Pascal continued in his opening monologue. “They were so brave, and without them I wouldn’t be here in this wonderful country. And I certainly wouldn’t be standing here with you all tonight.”
The 48-year-old actor began performing on screen in the late ’90s, appearing in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “NYPD Blue” among other popular TV series of the time. Pedro Pascal has been acting for decades, but his title role in the Disney+ series The Mandalorian skyrocketed him to stardom. Pascal quickly became a fan favorite, with many praising his ability to express complex emotions, even from behind a helmet. With The Mandalorian Season 3 set to stream on March 1, Pascal promises to earn further critical acclaim. Still, the actor revealed another star he thinks would do Mando justice.

Pedro Pascal enjoyed his first big break in the HBO series Game of Thrones. As Oberyn Martell, the actor had one of the show’s more traumatic death scenes (a feat for the notoriously violent show). Ben Affleck has called on Netflix to change up its “assembly line” way of producing films and “aim a little higher”.
The actor was speaking at The New York Times’ DealBook Summit on Wednesday (30 November) about the launch of Artist Equity, his new studio with Matt Damon.
During the talk, Affleck said that he wanted his studio to show that “commercial” films could still be well made, with their production teams paid fairly.
When the talk chairperson mentioned that he was interviewing Netflix’s co-ceo and chair Reed Hastings later that day, Affleck – who starred in Netflix action film Triple Frontier in 2019 – explained how Artist Equity would differentiate from the streamer.
“I see no differentiation between commercial and quality,” Affleck said. “If you ask Reed Hastings, [he’d say], ‘Well, we went for quantity to establish a footprint.’

With the launch of Artist Equity, his new studio with Matt Damon and RedBird Capital Partners, Ben Affleck is hoping to create a production model that stands on the opposite end of Netflix’s onslaught of content. Affleck attended The New York Times’ DealBook Summit on Nov. 30 and said Netflix operates similar to an “assembly line” in how it produces such a massive output.
“If you ask [Netflix co-ceo and chairman] Reed Hastings…he’d say, ‘Hey, we went for quantity to establish a footprint,'” Affleck said. “I’m sure there’s wisdom in that and I’m sure they had a great strategy, but I would have said, ‘How are we going to make 50 great movies? How is that possible?’ There’s no committee big enough. There aren’t enough — you just can’t do it.”

Plot: When brilliant scientist Amber Chesborough vanishes along the Colombia-Venezuela border, her brother and her husband—both elite U.S. Army commandos—struggle to find her amid a guerilla war, discovering that the woman they love might have a secret.
Review: Mark Boal has made a career out of telling military stories. From those grounded in true stories (Zero Dark Thirty) to those inspired by reality (The Hurt Locker), Boal has also transitioned to action-oriented blockbusters like Triple Frontier. His latest project is Echo 3, an international espionage thriller full of gritty action and military tactics that attempts to tell a sociopolitical drama full of heavy stuntwork and complicated storytelling. Despite some truly pulse-pounding firefights that rival any of his big-screen efforts, Mark Boal’s characters cannot rise to the same level of complexity as the action sequences. Echo 3 is decent but far from as good as it should, or could, be.

Back in 2017, the notion of a straight-to-streaming blockbuster seemed faintly ludicrous. When Netflix released Bright – the ruthlessly panned 100m “orc cop” film starring Will Smith – it felt like the mad folly of a company drunk on its own success. Five years, one pandemic and three prime ministers later, the prospect of Netflix releasing a film on that scale sounds like just another Friday.
The latest expensive release to grace the streamer’s catalogue is The School for Good and Evil. Directed by Paul Feig (Bridesmaids; 2016’s Ghostbusters), the film follows two teen girls who become enrolled in a magic school split into two conflicting factions (good and not-so-good). The whole thing is a sort of hodge-podge of different fantasy and fairytale tropes – Harry Potter by way of Shrek. Public domain IP is greedily plundered for characters: the school lumps characters like King Arthur’s progeny in with Prince Charming’s...

If you enjoy watching talented actors situated in foreign lands, drenched in cosmetically applied sweat, opining in borderline-comical accents about second chances, Apple TV+’s Shantaram is likely to be your favorite new show of the fall.
Breathlessly awaited for nearly two decades by countless people who bought Gregory David Roberts’ epic tome to read on an airplane but never quite finished it, Shantaram has the insufferable trappings of yet another white savior story about a damaged guy whose quest for self-actualization leads him to an exotic place where superficial lessons about a previously unknown spiritual system help him and basically nobody else around him. Charlie Hunnam‘s toying with the idea of life after death when it comes to the dangerously smart character he played in all seven seasons of “Sons of Anarchy”.
During the Los Angeles premiere for his new AppleTV+ series “Shantaram”, the ridiculously handsome 42-year-old actor opened up to Et’s Will Marfugi a bit — keyword, a bit — about the possible revival of Jackson “Jax” Teller in some way, shape or form. He recently said as much, and he acknowledged that speaking about it caused quite the commotion.
“Oh, did that get a little bit of traction,” quipped Hunnam. But when pressed on whether there’s a concrete idea or if reprising his role as Jax will come in a series or film, Hunnam played coy.

Another new “Star Wars” series has arrived on Disney+, but this one is different. “Andor” is set years before the events of “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” and follows the exploits of Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor, but in contrast to the previous live-action shows like “The Mandalorian” and “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” this is a decidedly grounded and gritty take on the “Star Wars” universe – and one completely devoid of Jedi and Sith and bounty hunters. In short, it’s a “Star Wars” story set in a new pocket of the universe, about real people struggling with the very real oppression of the Empire.
Luna anchors the ensemble but there’s an impressive cast of characters that show up in the first few episodes, and no doubt many more to come throughout the 12-episode first season. Check out our complete “Andor” cast and character guide below.

Netflix has been on a hit-or-miss run for a while now since they started pumping out their own material, and Triple Frontier is one of those that feels like it hit more than it missed. When trying to break it down into a couple of pertinent sentences, it’s not too difficult, but the overall feel of the story is something that people can’t help but think is a little too simple if they really think about it. In other words, Santiago, the former soldier, has an idea to steal from a drug lord and eliminate the man at the same

Clerks III filmmaker Kevin Smith is making the most of his new lease on life, and that includes phase two of his friendship with longtime collaborator Ben Affleck. The two met during the audition process for Mallrats in 1994, and at the time, Affleck credited Smith’s directorial debut, Clerks, for inspiring him to co-write his own screenplay that he’d just sold. That script was called Good Will Hunting. From there, the duo made six movies together, but in the late 2000s, a near decade-long estrangement unfolded for one reason or another.
In February 2018, Smith suffered a widowmaker heart attack, and his brush with death prompted him to completely change his lifestyle as he’s now become a devout vegan. The Jersey native was also reinvigorated creatively, and he got the ball rolling on Jay and Silent Bob Reboot later that year, with an early 2019 production schedule planned.

In 1995, director Michael Mann delivered what is arguably the greatest heist film ever made in "Heat." It sees Robert De Niro as an expert thief named Neil McCauley who finds himself at odds with Al Pacino's Lieutenant Vincent Hanna as McCauley's crew narrows in on a big score. What emerges is one of the best cat and mouse crime thrillers to ever grace the silver screen.
Now, nearly 30 years later, we have a sequel in the form of the novel "Heat 2," which Mann actually co-wrote. Not only that, but the filmmaker has already revealed that he has every intention of turning the novel — part prequel and part sequel — into a film as well. But, unless we're going to go "The Irishman" route and de-age everyone very expensively, we are going to need new actors to fill these roles. So, who should fill out the cast? We've got some suggestions!

Pedro Pascal admitted he may have been a little tentative about just how much success “The Mandalorian” could find among “Star Wars” fans.
The “Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent” actor and “Narcos” alum leads the hit Disney+ series, which debuted in 2019. Pascal plays bounty hunter Din Djarin, who saves Baby Yoda and ventures on quests throughout the galaxy. Due to its unique plot and episodic structure (plus viral love for Baby Yoda), “The Mandalorian” was a breakthrough for the “Star Wars” canon.
“I think it was so easy to trust how much Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni love ‘Star Wars’ and [how they’re] taking that love and developing new ways of telling ‘Star Wars’ stories,” Pascal told Entertainment Weekly of signing on to the role. “That’s a big safety net. But there were things, like, will this character be compelling? Will people want to follow him through these adventures? Will the...

“The Gray Man” is Netflix’s biggest action movie to date (its budget is said to be more than 200 million) – and one of its best.
The new Russo Brothers movie stars Ryan Gosling as the shadowy agent of the title, who gets involved in a job gone wrong and soon finds himself being hunted by Chris Evans as a mustachioed psychopath. There’s some truly harrowing spy-versus-spy action and some nice emotional beats as well. It’s so satisfying, in fact, that it might leave you hankering for some more action movies you can only find on Netflix.
With that in mind, we handily compiled a list of the best Netflix Original action movies on the service — that is, action movies on Netflix that were made by Netflix. You might want to grab an ice pack before we start, there’s definitely a chance there could be some bruising.
