What would spooky season be without the Sanderson Sisters? Thanks to Freeform, we’ll never have to find out.
The cable network’s annual 31 Nights of Halloween lineup features 18 showings of Hocus Pocus, the beloved 1993 film starring Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy — and while that may seem like a lot, keep in mind that Freeform aired the Walt Disney flick a whopping 30 (!) times in 2019. (Of course, you can watch Hocus Pocus, as well as its 2022 sequel, as many times as you’d like with a Disney+ subscription, but who are we to suggest a commercial-free viewing experience?...

Despite the confusing title, this is not the sequel to Zack Snyder's Legend of the Guardians, based on the popular Guardians of Ga'Hoole book series. Rather, this is a new DreamWorks Animation movie that is attempting to turn all of our mythical childhood characters into a team of superheroes. The Guardians, in this case, are Santa Claus, The Easter Bunny, The Tooth Fairy, The Sandman and Jack Frost, all of whom fight to "protect the hopes, beliefs and imagination of children everywhere." Seriously, are we absolutely sure someone didn't move April Fools up a couple of days? Watching the trailer for Rise of the Guardians, I almost felt like it could be a really high quality College Humor parody of all the generic CG animated movies that Hollywood is churning out nowadays. To make matters worse, the movie seems to be taking itself pretty seriously... I mean, Santa Claus...

The Flicks: Dreamworks hasn’t been as successful as the almighty Pixar, but they have released some solid titles. Two of those being Shrek and Monsters vs Aliens, so it makes sense that they would use these as vehicles for Halloween spinoffs. The DVDs come packaged together as a double pack even though both movies run less than 30 minutes. While the covers are cool, these could have been put on one DVD.
Scared Shrekless is pretty funny. The whole gang is back and Shrek has challenged them into a scare off. They all tell scary stories and the last one left that hasn’t been Scared Shrekless wins. Some of the stories were entertaining, but I wasn’t completely sold on the delivery. Don’t get me wrong, fans of Shrek are going to find plenty to enjoy. I’ve just never been a huge fan of the franchise. The...

DreamWorks Animation is on the cusp of doing something no other movie studio in history has done: release three CG-animated features in a year. And CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg was crowing Tuesday that the company will have "its best year ever" in 2010.
Dwa, in fact, already is on a roll. Not only is its stock pushing up against an all-time high, but it posted profit and earnings Tuesday that beat analyst predictions by a healthy margin.
Net income in the fourth quarter fell 16% to $43.6 million and revenue was down 3% to $194 million.
The better-than-expected numbers were spurred by a take of $50.4 million from a couple of holiday TV specials: "Monsters vs. Aliens: Mutant Pumpkins From Outer Space" and "Merry Madagascar."
For the full year, Dwa posted net income that grew 6% to $151 million on revenue that was up 12% to $725 million.
The power of the green ogre was on display again as the...
