Summer School: Chapter Three is a follow-up to the previous episode, where Courtney Whitmore / Stargirl and the newly introduced Jenny / Jade (the new Green Lantern) got most of the character development and screen time. There were also another villain who got introduced, Richard Swift / The Shade, and it's looking like he'll be the main antagonist along with Eclipso and Cindy Burman who has the black diamond that Eclipso is inside of. Chapter Three follows Stargirl and her friends (the new JSA) as they prepare for an confrontation with The Shade, the pencil/genie known as Thunderbolt from season 1 makes his full appearance as the Johnny Thunder's pencil falls into Mike Dugan's hand. There's also a fair share of flashbacks that shows before and during the final confrontation with the JSA and ISA. Jakeem Thunder gets introduced, whom are also Mike Dugan's best friend.
Actor turned director, Lea Thompson who have been with the TV Series since the first season, she directed Summer School: Chapter Three. It's a great episode with great direction and truly impressive visual effects. Jonathan Cake's performance was honestly the best in this episode, he's doing such a great job making The Shade feel interesting and not just a black and white character, I can't wait to see more of him. Yvette Monreal gives us a great performance as Yolanda Montez / Wildcat II, she's pulling it off and I can now say that this is a great character arc for the character. It was one of the characters I liked the most in the first season, it's nice to see her get more screen time and more quality writing. Some of the writing for Chapter Three didn't really stick with me but it was overall good and entertaining. In terms of world building, a terrific episode.
