Kate Hudson rocks a familiar look while stepping out for press on Thursday (January 4) in New York City.
The 44-year-old actress wore a fur trench coat that was very reminiscent of the coat she wore in one of her early, fan-favorite films Almost Famous!
While appearing on The View that day, Kate talked about her rom-com How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, which turned 20 years old in 2023, what made it so good, and what rom-coms are missing nowadays.
Keep reading to find out more…
“Honestly, I think it was well written,” she said. “I think there’s this sort of misconception that a rom-com is supposed to have a certain formula, which it does, there is a formula that works… But it does also start with the writing.”
“We went through multiple writers and made sure we had a great foundation of a script, and then the cast,...

Now in its third year, the event is a tribute to Latino culture and the Mexican tradition of honoring family who have passed and bringing together family who are chosen.
“I’m honored to present the inaugural Día de Muertos Award to Gael García Bernal, a true cinematic icon whose brilliant work as both a producer and actor has brought Latino stories to life and given them a space in mainstream culture,” Carlos Eric Lopez, the Mexican-American fine art and celebrity photographer who hosts the yearly dinner, told Deadline in a statement.

No idea or character is too old for Hollywood to recycle. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Amazon Studios will be developing a new film based on Medusa, one of the most famous monsters of Greek mythology. One of three sisters known as the Gorgons, Medusa is famous for her hair made of snakes and piercing gaze: anyone who looks her in the eyes turns to stone.
Described as a "modern take" on the character, it seems the film will ditch ancient Greece for a more contemporary setting. "Medusa" will be an action-adventure movie, with the titular character as the unlikely hero. With the movie so early in pre-production, there's no word on who will be the star; the makers probably don't even know yet. However, THR was able to share who some of the talent working behind the scenes are.

Nicole Kassell is slated to direct this "Medusa" project.

While phrases like “localize Mother 3” have become something of a meme in recent years, the passion for an official Western port of the 2006 Game Boy Advance Jrpg is as real as it gets. For 16 years, fans have been begging Nintendo to just give them an official English translation of Mother 3. While an unofficial (and exceptional) English fan translation of the game has been available for quite some time, Mother/Earthbound supporters still want to play an officially translated version of the game on a Nintendo device.
What’s even stranger than the fact that Nintendo has yet to grant that seemingly simple request is the fact that the company has historically been vague about why Mother 3 hasn’t been officially ported to the West yet. While various Nintendo representatives have referenced that project and the franchise over the years, few have been willing (or able) to explain the Mother 3 situation in a satisfying way.

When you think back on the Super Nintendo, you probably try to focus on the console’s many classic games, incredible RPGs, or even its absolute worst titles. However, it has to be said that Nintendo’s best console was also the home of some of the absolute weirdest games ever made.
There was just something about that era of gaming that inspired developers to take a chance on some truly bizarre concepts. The relatively untamed landscape of the medium combined with rapid advances in console technology lead to some truly wild titles the likes of which we hadn’t seen before and really haven’t seen since. It was truly a golden age for retro “Wtf?” experiences.
Before we get into the heart of this list, though, here are a few of the selection rules I followed that you may want to keep in mind:

While many of those who grew up with the Super Nintendo (arguably Nintendo’s greatest console) wouldn’t trade their memories of it away for anything, the 30 years since the console’s North American release have made it clear that the value of its incredible library of games goes well beyond nostalgia.
At a time when the market for collectible video games is going through an unbelievable boom period, retro gamers everywhere are taking mental and physical inventory of their classic game collections in the hopes (or horror) of discovering that one of the games they owned is secretly worth a fortune. At the risk of disappointing some, though, it turns out that many of the Snes’ most valuable games are only valuable because so few people owned them.

1987’s Final Fantasy deserves all the credit it can get for helping popularize the Jrpg genre (especially in the West), expanding the scope of Nes titles, and kicking off an all-time great franchise, but was it really the first Jrpg ever made?
To help answer that question, we first have to define what a Jrpg is and what separates that subgenre from tabletop RPGs, CRPGs, ARPGs, strategy RPGs, and every other type of role-playing game out there.
The problem is that defining a Jrpg has always been an especially contentious topic. It seems easy to say that a Jrpg is an RPG made in Japan, but even that definition doesn’t satisfy everyone. For instance, Dark Souls is an RPG made in Japan, but you rarely hear fans describe it as a Jrpg.
You could use common Jrpg gameplay/design elements to help define the genre, but even that gets tricky.

Super Mario 3D World’s upcoming debut on Nintendo Switch is a major moment for many Mario fans who didn’t get the chance to play one of the best games in franchise history when it was released for Wii U. In some ways, it’s actually seen as a “lost” Mario game by those who never found a reason to purchase what is arguably Nintendo’s worst console ever.
What you may not know, though, is that there have actually been many Super Mario games over the years that were never released for one reason or another. Why many of these projects are nothing more than pieces of obscure trivia (such as the Mario Kart game that Elon Musk wanted to install in Tesla vehicles), some of these canceled, rejected, and unreleased titles shine a light on what could have been.

George Clooney has come a long way since his breakout role as the hard-partying, womanizing pediatrician Doug Ross on NBC’s 1990s hit “ER.” But the actor-turned-filmmaker said he drew on lessons from his work on the medical drama while directing and starring in his new sci-fi epic, “The Midnight Sky.”
The movie, set partly in outer space and partly in the frozen expanses of the Arctic, is by far the biggest and most ambitious of the seven movies that Clooney has directed. Based on the novel by Lily Brooks-Dalton, it takes place about 30 years in the future, when an unspecified calamity has threatened to make Earth unlivable and a team of astronauts is returning from a scouting mission at a potentially inhabitable moon of Jupiter.

Having been attached to the title role in Black Adam for well over a decade, you can guarantee that Dwayne Johnson will have big plans for the comic book antihero now that the project has finally escaped from development hell and will be in front of cameras in a matter of months. The Dceu is in the midst of a creative resurgence with a number of massively exciting titles on the horizon, and signing up the biggest and highest-paid movie star on the planet is definitely one way to get people buzzing.
Johnson produces all of his own output through his Seven Bucks company and is heavily involved throughout the development process as well, so Black Adam should be no different despite the fact that it slots into an established mythology. Indeed, the 48 year-old has constantly been teasing that the hierarchy of power is about to change for good, and...

The influence of Super Meat Boy is starting to feel like a death sentence for aspiring indie titles. Has there been even a single successful attempt at recapturing the smooth precision of the 2010 classic? The latest challenger is Spinch, which marries the platforming to cartoon psychedelia reminiscent of Earthbound. The aesthetic is practically the only thing it has going for it, because the gameplay is on par with a mid-tier Flash game from the Newgrounds heyday. I recognize that that’s a strange criticism, given that Super Meat Boy itself grew out of the Flash landscape, but it did so in both the sense of originating from it and transcending it through intense polish. Spinch has neither a claim to the latter sense nor the excuse of the former.

The first words of Nagahisa Makoto’s “We Are Little Zombies” are spoken by a deadpan and disembodied 13-year-old Game Boy addict named Hikari (Ninomiya Keita) as he watches his parents waft out the smokestack of a Tokyo crematorium. “Today, Mommy turned to dust. So did Daddy. Dusty as parmesan on a plate of Bolognese.” A gleaming wad of spaghetti appears over the giant chimney as if Photoshopped into the sky. Hikari lost both members of his small family a few days earlier when they were killed in a bus crash during the “worst-named package tour of all time: Destination Happiness!” The short-sighted tween — whose emotionless vibe falls somewhere between Detective Conan and a serial killer — isn’t impressed by the irony that left him an orphan. “Reality is too stupid to cry over,” he says. “And that’s that.”
But that, it turns out, is not that. Not by a long shot.

This Solar Opposites review contains spoilers.
Solar Opposites Episode 1
As a general rule, the strongest TV pilot episodes drop us into a story that’s already on its way. This is especially true of sitcoms, where the main thing we want to learn at the start is how the main characters interact with their world and each other. Basically, we care less about how the characters got to this point, we just want to know “what’s funny about this premise?” so that we can decide if we’re going to tune in for the rest of the series.
Solar Opposites very much understands this. Not even ten minutes into its premiere episode, “The Matter Transfer Array,” replicants Jesse (Mary Mack) and Yumyulack (Sean Giambrone) have shrunk a bully down and put in her in a jar and Terry (Thomas Middleditch) and Korvo (Justin Roiland) have created a real-life version...

The post-credits scene of Spider-Man: Far From Home certainly hinted that the Skrulls are set to play an important role in the McU during Phase Four and beyond, with the revelation that Nick Fury had allowed himself and Maria Hill to be impersonated by the shape-shifting aliens while he remained in outer space.
Everything that happens in the McU is meticulously laid out in advance, of course, and Phase Three’s concluding chapter ending on the reveal that Fury had taken himself off-world more than likely means the Skrulls will be pivotal to whatever the overarching post-Infinity Saga story turns out to be. Unfortunately, though, with the entirety of Phase Four delayed due to the Coronavirus pandemic, fans are just going to have to wait that little bit longer to see how all of the pieces will ultimately fit together.

With millions of people currently quarantined and self-isolating due to the Coronavirus pandemic, and restrictions in place all around the world, many fans have decided to use their free time to re-watch the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe from start to finish. While this has led to debates about which of the studio’s output can be deemed the worst, powering through twenty-three movies is going to pass a lot of time regardless.
For those who either aren’t interested though or don’t have the patience to chronologically work their way from Iron Man to Spider-Man: Far From Home, The Direct have come up with six new ways to experience the McU from multiple different points of view, which could ultimately give many fans an entirely new perspective on the biggest franchise in history, and you can check them out in the gallery down below along with brief descriptions of each one.

The end is finally upon us. “The Leftovers” airs its final episode this Sunday on HBO, and with it comes the close of one of television’s all-time great drama series. Over the course of its three-season run, “The Leftovers” has earned acclaim for Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrotta, as well as the ensemble cast, but it would be a shame to say goodbye to this series without spotlighting the men and women behind the camera.
“The Leftovers” and its point-of-view storytelling always allowed different directors to leave their mark on the series. Through memorable sequences and shots, these seven directors made “The Leftovers” an emotionally visceral and downright spiritual experience. It’s safe to say there won’t be another series like it for some time, but television is in good hands as long as these filmmakers are guiding it.

I had a lot of hopes for Jon Stewart’s first foray into narrative cinematic storytelling, which he’s never done before. I expected something passionate, principled, and political. In these I was not disappointed… and I was also pleased to discover that he has an aptitude for telling a complicated story that plays on multiple levels, both personal and cultural, in a smartly streamlined, easy to swallow way. What I wasn’t expecting was his tone in Rosewater: hopeful, almost serene, even gently amusing.

The Academy has announced the new class of invited members for 2014 and, as is typical, many of which are among last year's nominees, which includes Barkhad Abdi, Michael Fassbender, Sally Hawkins, Mads Mikkelsen, Lupita Nyong'o and June Squibb in the Actors branch not to mention curious additions such as Josh Hutcherson, Rob Riggle and Jason Statham, but, okay. The Directors branch adds Jay and Mark Duplass along with Jean-Marc Vallee, Denis Villeneuve and Thomas Vinterberg. I didn't do an immediate tally of male to female additions or other demographics, but at first glance it seems to be a wide spread batch of new additions on all fronts. The Academy is also clearly attempting to aggressively bump up the demographics as this is the second year in a row where they have added a large number of new members, well over the average of 133 new members from 2004 to 2012. As far as...

Michael Fassbender and Lupita Nyong’o of 12 Years a Slave were two of the 271 artists and industry leaders invited to become members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which determines nominations and winners at the annual Oscars. The entire list of Academy membership—which numbers about 6,000—isn’t public information so the annual invitation list is often the best indication of the artists involved in the prestigious awards process. It’s worth noting that invitations need to be accepted in order for artists to become members; some artists, like two-time Best Actor winner Sean Penn, have declined membership over the years.

Pop quiz: What do Chris Rock, Claire Denis, Eddie Vedder and Josh Hutcherson all have in common? Answer: They could all be Oscar voters very soon. The annual Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences invitation list always makes for interesting reading, shedding light on just how large and far-reaching the group's membership is -- or could be, depending on who accepts their invitations. This year, 271 individuals have been asked to join AMPAS, meaning every one of them could contribute to next year's Academy Awards balloting -- and it's as diverse a list as they've ever assembled. Think the Academy consists entirely of fusty retired white dudes? Not if recent Best Original Song nominee Pharrell Williams takes them up on their offer. Think it's all just a Hollywood insiders' game? Not if French arthouse titans Chantal Akerman and Olivier Assayas join the party. It's a list that subverts expectation at every turn.

There's a difficulty involved in telling a story based at a hospital, rehabilitation center or any other kind of treatment facility because everyone is there for a specific reason. Regardless of ailment or condition, each patient has something specific pinning them to that location. The challenge is to avoid having that one defining characteristic become an all-encompassing force, drowning out any other compelling elements of that individual’s personality or history. "The Road Within," the directorial debut of "A Little Bit of Heaven" writer Gren Wells, shows that it's just as difficult to avoid that temptation once those characters are outside that area's borders. Taken from the 2010 German film "Vincent Wants to Sea," this particular adaptation is filtered through the eyes of Vincent Rhodes (Robert Sheehan), a young man struggling with Tourette Syndrome. Forced into a treatment center by his estranged father Robert (Robert Patrick) after the death of...

Robert Sheehan, Dev Patel and Zoe Kravitz will star in "The Road Within," the directorial debut of actress and screenwriter Gren Wells. Wells, who previously wrote "A Little Bit of Heaven," wrote the script, an adaption of the award-winning German film "Vincent Will Meer." Sheehan, a star of this summer's "The Mortal Instruments: The City of Bones," will play Vincent, a young man suffering from Tourette Syndrome who ends up in a clinic after his mother dies and his father chooses to run for office. Kate Hudson was reportedly "totally surprised" by the secret birthday bash her fiance, Matthew Bellamy, organized to celebrate her 34th birthday.
The actress previously told Us Weekly that she was looking forward to just hanging with her family for the occasion, but what she got was a star-studded event at the Greenwich Hotel.
On April 20, guests including Cameron Diaz, Judd Apatow and Leslie Mann showed up to help celebrate the "A Little Bit of Heaven" star's birthday.
"The party started outside, but it was freezing so people moved inside and danced," a source told Us Weekly, adding that Hudson, who looked beautiful in a tight metallic dress, "loves to dance and she was just really happy talking to everyone."
According to the magazine, Hudson spent April 19, her actual birthday, watching her fiance's band Muse perform at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Hudson and Bellamy have been engaged...

I'm a huge Kate Hudson fan. Like many of you, I developed strong feelings for the bubbly blonde the instant she burst onto the scene in Almost Famous. That love was cemented with How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days. She's stunning, incredibly talented and without question possesses that It Factor. It also can't be argued that Kate has horrible taste in movie roles.
With the exception of Almost Famous and How To Lose, Kate doesn't have a single hit to her name. That means she's spent the last decade (yes, she wooed McConaughey in 2003) picking the wrong projects, going after the wrong roles and losing major box office clout. Her last...

Gold Rush (Criterion Collection) I have not seen all of Charlie Chaplin's films, but of those I have, if I was to say which one of them had the best looking photography it would be this one by a long shot. In fact, this is probably my favorite of the Chaplin films I have seen. Not only does it have some magnificent photography, but it's quite funny and I'm frustrated I haven't had the time to watch Criterion's new presentation hey, but I'm hoping to remedy that soon enough as I will be reviewing this title. That said, I wouldn't think you'd need to wait for me to give you the go ahead here, this seems like a no brainer in my opinion.

Hello Noomi Rapace, Idris Elba and Gael García Bernal! As big-budget film-making increasingly targets new markets, here are the actors from around the world who could capitalise
Hollywood has always reinforced its star ranks with choice acting talent from around the world. Some groups succeed better than others: Anglo and Australian actors are, culturally speaking, a natural fit; performers from the east Asia struggle for acceptance outside martial arts roles. But, as big-budget film-making increasingly targets non-American audiences, expect these ground rules to change. The uptake of personnel from other continents will increase, and their involvement will become more central: they won't just be there as exotic add-ons; they will function as full audience proxies – in the ways true stars do – for these emerging markets. The sidekicks will become the protagonists. Here's a few of the new breed already in the global frame.

Since it seems like the bottom has fallen out of the market for the kind of romantic comedies that Kate Hudson and Sarah Jessica Parker used to star in, they've found refuge with jazz hands: Both actresses will guest-star on Glee next season, Fox announced today. There's not much info about how big a role Parker will have in season four, but Hudson will appear in a six-episode story arc. It's definitely an improvement for Hudson on that disastrous cancer comedy A Little Bit of Heaven that opened with a thud earlier this month.

This Weekend's Winners: Could there be any doubt? Going into the weekend, projections had Marvel's The Avengers ready to jostle Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 for the best opening weekend of all time. Puny Potter. Disney’s The Avengers smashed the opening weekend record by earning $200.3 million this weekend, according to studio estimates.
The prior record was held by last summer’s Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2, which debuted to $169.2 million. But The Avengers, directed by Joss Whedon, was the perfect storm: a highly anticipated 3-D action movie that combined the superheroes of several prior Marvel blockbusters while managing to stand alone as a well-reviewed, crowd-pleasing film in its own right. Weekend Box Office: 'The Avengers' Assemble The Biggest Opening Weekend In History With $200 Million
Box office: you just got Avenged.
Combining the feature attractions of four separate blockbusters, "The Avengers" was looking to at least surpass the first weekend gross of "Iron Man 2," which pulled in a non-3D three-day total of $128 million during this weekend two years ago. However, few expected the team-up film to surpass the final domestic tallies of both "Thor" and "Captain America: The First Avenger" in its first three days, roughing up previous weekend record-holder "Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part Two" in the process. That 3D-enhanced final installment of the 'Potter' series still holds the record for the biggest opening day at $91 million, but "The Avengers" will finish Sunday with a record breaking $200 million opening weekend. Hooray money!
