"But it's already played." There is no greater currency in the press at a film festival than the word "premiere." And that word can mean a great many things. There are regional premieres. North American premieres. Us premieres. Or, in the best case scenario, world premieres. If you've got a movie no one's seen, and it's by someone who has a track record, that is bait on a hook. And sometimes, it seems like it's important to see something first. Take Michael Moore, for example. He's got a track record. There are plenty of things of Michael Moore's that I like. I think you will find few more ardent "TV Nation" fans than me. But he's been away from the game for a while. And tonight, he had a film premiere at the Princess Of Wales theater. I could have gone to that. I will see it tomorrow. There...

How seriously do you think I take Halloween? Well, I’m fairly frickin’ anal retentive anyway, so I need to book my viewing in advance. I mean I’ll deviate from my itinerary, but I at least need a plan. I can’t be the only one out there with a stick up his ass. So this October/Halloween Season I figured we needed a little guidance. There’s too many damn channels on the cable box, no horror hosts and shit for advertising. So let me be your TV Guide… Keeper.
We won’t touch on everything and I’m sure new programming will come up as October gets itself moving. I’ll throw an update out there from time to time if a special is airing or a new programming line up is discovered, uncovered, revealed or undead. Yes, this is for cable or dish. Network TV will...

Silent House
Directed by: Chris Kentis & Laura Lau
Cast: Elizabeth Olsen
Running Time: 1 hr 28 mins
Rating: PG-13
Release Date: March 9, 2012
Plot: A young woman (Olsen) runs for her life throughout her dark house in the woods when it receives unwelcome guests.
Who’S It For? Silent House is especially for those who are learning about filmmaking and are impressed by one takes. The story is for multiplex moviegoers who feel like they have seen this scenario before. Also bound to wring in some teenagers in general, Silent House is artful work for the Devil Inside generation.
Expectations: Hmm … an ominously titled film done in one take, and with a PG-13 rating? Was this going to be the Russian Ark of teen horror movies? And just how impressive was Elizabeth Olsen going to be in her second seen performance?
Scorecard (0-10)

In Super 8, writer/director J.J. Abrams (pictured) tells the story of a group of adolescent filmmakers in a small Ohio town whose big dream is to get their film into the fictional Cleveland International Super 8 Film Festival. The film never shows us if their movie makes it — the kids are sidetracked by an alien invasion, after all — but in real life Abrams was part of a real life band of teen filmmakers showcased at a festival titled “The Best Teen Super 8mm Films of ’81.” Held at L.A.’s Nuart Theater in March 1982, it helped launch the career of not only Abrams (director of the Star Trek reboot, and creator of TV’s Alias, Lost, etc.), but a whole community of film and TV talent. Matt Reeves, who went on to co-create Felicity with Abrams and direct films such as Cloverfield, was there with his 28-minute Hitchockian thriller Stiletto.

Who’S It For? Fans of silent films will enjoy this homage and people who like the romances of old will appreciate the film.
Overall
We live in the day and age of the talkie. Few people can remember any other era. Going into The Artist it seemed like the film was attempting to remind people of another. Not simpler, not better, just different. But what actually makes The Artist so enchanting is that is never tries to be anything else. Yes,...

Gerald Webb is a DJ turned actor. He has an impressive IMDb resume starring in everything from NBC's Law and Order: Los Angeles to tonight's premiere of Battle of Los Angeles on Syfy (not that other movie in theaters). He has lots of cool projects in the works and it looks like we'll be seeing many or all of them on Syfy or on DVD soon. Check out my latest "Versus" with the very cool Gerald Webb and be sure to tune in tonight to watch The Asylum's Battle of Los Angeles. Skyline
Directed by: The Brothers Strause
Cast: Eric Balfour, Donald Faison, Scottie Thompson, David Zayas, Neil Hopkins
Running Time: 1 hr 32 mins
Rating: PG-13
Release Date: November 12, 2010
Plot: A group of thirty-somethings in Los Angeles have their swanky lives put on hold when a swarm of aliens attack our planet, sucking our brains out for energy.
Who’S It For? People who enjoy paying eleven dollars for Hollywood experiences with lots of special effects and the same heart and mental capacity of crap like Silent Venom.
Overall
We should have seen it coming. With movies like Cloverfield, Transformers, and even Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus, we should have known that one day these types of movies would combine powers and unleash one big bland attack on our multiplexes. While it seems like we haven’t had a good ol’ straight-up intergalactic alien invasion in a while, here comes Skyline...

You would think Bigfoot battling a Chupacabra would be a bit of a mismatch given the incredible size difference between the two. Fred Olen Ray is nonetheless readying a David vs. Goliath clash between these two cryptid titans. Sasquatch vs. Chupacabra - place your bets!
Fred Olen Ray has just announced plans for the flick on his Retromedia message board, and an official Sasquatch vs. Chupacabra website is already online.
There's nothing on the website other than a "contact us" link and the following:
From director Fred Olen Ray (Sea Snakes, Turbulent Skies, The Lair) and producer Kimberly A. Ray (Woke Up Dead, Komodo Vs Cobra, Megaconda, Dante's Cove).
No other details at this time aside from the temporary artwork you see below. But it's Bigfoot grappling with a goatsucker; what more do you need?

Gory greetings horroryearbook alumni! Welcome to another exciting edition of It Came From The Mailbox, a column where your old pal Brain Hammer reviews whatever random crap the good folks at horroryearbook decide to throw my way. It's no secret that your old pal Brain Hammer is a bit of a television junkie. Hell, I spent all last night glued to my television set, weeping uncontrollably as I watched Jon & Kate announcing their separation. My unhealthy obsession with Full House is the stuff of internet legend. This helps explain why my drunken and shiftless editor Wil would decide to send me a pair of screeners featuring actors and actresses that first became famous for their roles on the small screen...before fading away into total obscurity. Straight to video horror flicks with Mischa Barton And Luke Perry?!? I knew this was going to be a rough ride.

Starting today, Starlog will be posting information every Tuesday on the genre titles being released (or re-released) on DVD and Blu-ray. Here’s what’s out this week (today in fact):
DVD & Blu-ray Releases for June 2, 2009
Anacondas: Trail Of Blood (Sony, $24.96): This is the fourth (yup, fourth) installment in the giant snake series. Lord Of The Rings’ John Rhys-Davies plays a dying mogul named Murdoch in the flick. Think that’s just a coincidence?
Defiance (Paramount Home Video, DVD, $29.99; Blu-ray, $39.99): Why list this movie about Nazi Resistance fighters in Eastern Europe? Because it stars 007 himself, Daniel Craig. His brothers are played by Liev Schreiber (recently seen as Sabretooth in X-men: Origins: Wolverine) and King Kong’s Jamie Bell (upcoming as Steven Spielberg’s Tintin).
The Hunger: The Complete First Season (E1 Entertainment, $39.98): Hey, Daniel Craig again! He guests in an episode of the former Showtime...

Yawn... another ho-hum DVD release week. Sam Mendes's Revolutionary Road hits stores today, so you can finally decide for yourself if he got snubbed at the Oscars (I don't think he did), and you can also catch up with Valentine's Day hit He's Just Not That Into You and Defiance starring Daniel Craig. Amy Poehler/Parker Posey/Rachel Dratch comedy Spring Breakdown is also out this week, along with a 25th Anniversary Edition of Eddie Murphy: Delirious and the latest seasons of Prison Break, Weeds and Reaper. Plus... Road House on Blu-ray! That pretty much sums it up... are you picking anything up? DVD Review
Silent Venom
Directed by:
Cast: Luke Perry, Krista Allen, Tom Berenger
Time: 1 hr 27 mins
Rating: R
Release Date: June 2nd, 2009
Plot: An American submarine traveling through dangerous territorial waters is put in even more danger when two scientists bring venomous snakes on board.
Who’s It For?: Mostly those who know better than to watch this kind of stuff. Really, they’d be hurting themselves by attempting to partake in this particular trash dive.
Movie
Don’t be fooled by, of all things, the DVD menu for Silent Venom. Not only does this movie take place in four of five confining rooms in a submarine, (as opposed to a more open jungle), it is also zero fun, start to finish, through and through. The cheesiness of the menu’s jagged font, similar to watching Luke Perry hold a pistol like that, is actually secretly venomous with extreme boredom.

New contest time. This go around we have luke Perry's Silent Venom up for grabs. O’Neill’s (Perry) orders were simple: Pilot a retired submarine to its final port and don’t get into trouble. But when he and his crew are diverted to rescue an imperiled Army research team, trouble is exactly what they find. “Running silent” in their unarmed sub to avoid detection by a hostile fleet, they bring the researchers and their top-secret cargo aboard. But when that cargo – including two genetically enhanced leviathans – escapes captivity, the crew find themselves battling deadly enemies above the surface and below foot in this fast-paced film filled with biting action and slithering suspense! I couldn't help but lead with this film's official synopsis. Why? Because it is just too good. As you will see in the exclusive clip below, which was sent over to Reject HQ this afternoon, Perry is back in top form as the commander of a submarine infested by snakes. This...

It's Friday and I'm currently in one of the worst cities in America, Philadelphia. This means I have to risk my life to see Sam Raimi's Drag Me To Hell at the movie theater that someone got shot in for talking during Benjamin Button. If I survive we will have Brain Hammer's review up later today, and our new Horror Hack of the Week. Don't forget to enter our Drag Me To Hell contest that I'm keeping open for a little longer today, and we also have a contest for Luke Perry's Silent Venom. Review coming soon... Wish me luck! -- Wil...

Tara Reid fought deadly snakes in the surprisingly not-horrible Vipers, Deborah Gibson took on the Mega Shark and Giant Octopus, and now it's Buffy the Vampire Slayer and 90210 star Luke Perry's turn to fight some Motha-f*cking Snakes in Silent Venom... But wait it gets better! Not only is it directed by Fred Olen Ray it also stars Tom Berenger, Krista Allen and Horror Yearbook is giving away three copies! All you have to do to enter to win is send an e-mail to wil@horroryearbook.com with the subject line Luke Perry and include your name and mailing address. The contest ends June 2nd, 2009 when Silent Venom arrives on DVD.

I actually came across this DVD cover on Amazon a few weeks ago, and it gave me a snort and a chuckle, but it wasn't until I got reminders from DVDActive and Shock that I thought "Yes. This motion picture, based only on the cast and (especially) the DVD cover, is certainly worthy of its own Cinematical article." And so here it is: Silent Venom, baby. Let's just take a second to soak up the brilliant lunacy of that DVD cover. (Really, how scary would a snake wrapped around a periscope be? Not very, if you're presently Inside the submarine.)
But that's demanding way too much logic from a DVD cover like this. Scheduled for release on June 2, Silent Venom (is there even such a thing as vociferous venom?) stars Luke Perry, Krista Allen, and (third-billed?) Tom Berenger as, I assume, a tough guy who eats venom for breakfast. The...

Since we've already had Snakes on a Plane and Snakes on a Train, that means both air and land are covered. Which must mean it’s now time for the snakes to go underwater? That's exactly what we'll get when Silent Venom surfaces onto DVD this June - snakes in a sub.
You know the drill. It all starts with a top secret military project involving a mutant breed of venomous snake. Isn't that how it always starts? Has there ever been a motion picture where such experiments don't result in the snakes getting loose and a massive loss of life? What's different this time is that the snakes get loose within the cramped confines of an undersea military submarine.
Technically speaking, this is not the first time snakes have run wild aboard a sub. David Janssen starred in the 1974 telefilm Fer-De-Lance that also saw poisonous snakes smuggled aboard a...
