There are a lot of traditions that come along with the holidays. Eating too much, spending too much, drinking too much, saying too much to that family member you hate once drunk, decorating too much. Anything that ends with us hating ourselves come New Year’s? We are all over it like ornament glitter on Goddamn Everything. For decades, one tradition that has taken root is gathering around the light of the television to watch Christmas specials. As such, certain ones have risen to the top of our frenetic desire to Christmas Harder. Anything claymation from the 1960s (Rudolph, Frosty, Santa Claus), the Charlie Brown Christmas Special, and somehow the California Raisins are among the most instantly recognized animated holiday shows. But they’re far from the only ones. Below, I’ve collected several of the more obscure bursts of nostalgia available for your pleasure on YouTube. Sadly, both The...

Put That Cookie Down: The Sequel. It’s the sequel we’ve all been waiting for, I guess: Jingle All The Way, the perennially popular 1996 Christmas caper which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, is to get the sequel treatment. Eighteen years after the original, 20th Century Fox have finally listened to the will of the people (or at least, fans of Youtube remixes) and have commissioned a follow-up film to the enjoyably naff festive classic.

The Madagascar penguins are getting their own full-length feature film.
Though only secondary characters, the penguins quickly skyrocketed in popularity after the release of Madagascar in 2005.
The penguins, who behave like a crack commando unit, have appeared in both Madagascar films and their own short, The Classic Penguins Christmas Caper.
They have also had their own kids TV show since 2008, The Penguins of Madagascar.
The feature script will be written by Megamind writers Alan J. Schoolcraft and Brent Simons. No director is yet attached and the plot of the film is unknown.
The first Madagascar film grossed over $530 million worldwide. The sequel, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa made over $600 million worldwide.
A third Madagascar film is set to be released in June 2012.
The main Madagascar characters are voiced by Hollywood stars Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, Jada Pinkett Smith and Friends star David Schwimmer while the penguins are voiced by professional voice-over actors.

Cartoon Christmas specials come and go, and most series have more than one in their repertoire if they last more than 5 years (which in cartoon years can be anywhere between 5 to 9 seasons worth of content). They’re traditionally laced with sentiments of selflessness and goodwill towards men, as the festive season they celebrate dictates. The Hanna-Barbera roster of classic cartoons spanned a couple of generations and sprinkled in the midst of it all we saw a variety of specials to celebrate all the various holidays as they came along. And so we have the brief, easy but enjoyable Yogi Bear’s All-Star Comedy Christmas Caper which, while having the bear’s name in its title, is really about bringing all the classic Hanna-Barbera characters (save for the gang of Mystery Inc.) together in a quick adventure.

With Troy and Gabrielle having been replaced by Edward and Bella in the hearts (and wallets) of gazillions of tween/teen girls, Disney has pounced on what it hopes will be its next 'High School Musical.'
