Jeffrey Dean Morgan is the latest member of the "Supernatural" cast to join showrunner Eric Kripke's most recent creation: the filthy, irreverent superhero satire series "The Boys." Morgan played John Winchester, father of the demon-hunting Winchester brothers (Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki) in "Supernatural," and in "The Boys" season 4 he'll be introduced as CIA analyst Joe Kessler. There's a possibility he could even be reunited with his on-screen son, since Ackles also joined the world of "The Boys" last season as a very special boy: Soldier Boy.
This was Ackles' first time suiting up on camera as a superhero, which is actually pretty surprising given that his 15-season tenure on "Supernatural" saw him in a variety of disguises. Soldier Boy is currently taking a cryogenic nap, but after season 3 ended, Kripke told Entertainment Weekly, "I can't imagine the series ending without Soldier Boy making another appearance." Ackles himself is...

Writer Ian Shorr has signed with WME for representation in all areas.
Shorr is currently adapting the Korean film Time to Hunt for Netflix, with 42 producing. The original Korean language movie has three outlaws plotting a money heist to leave their dystopian world behind for a faraway paradise, only to draw the attention of a vicious killer.
Shorr penned the 2021 film Infinite, a sci-fi thriller that was directed by Antoine Fuqua, with Mark Wahlberg and Chiwetel Ejiofor starring in the drama about a confused man discovering his schizophrenic visions are actually memories from past lives just in time to save humanity.
He also sold his sci-fi thriller spec script for Capsule to 20th Century Fox, with Hutch Parker (The Wolverine) producing. Capsule followed a young man whose life is upturned when he begins to receive metallic capsules containing messages from his future self.

As I get older, I find it harder and harder to find horror movies from the 80s and even 90s to qualify for a recommendation towards a best horror movie you never saw. First is the influx of all these great companies like Vinegar Syndrome, Arrow, and Severin Films, not to mention Kino and Scream Factory, who pull out all the stops finding the most hidden of hidden gems to clean up and release. Second, we have a ludicrous amount of streaming services, and the free ones typically can find these smaller movies that cost way less to license a streamable version. Between my generation recommending everything under the sun to their coworkers, friends, and family as well as newer generations being willing to stream something if its easy to find, the 80s is well represented, for better and for worse. The 2000s are Chock Full of movies that came...

Ah, Christmas. It’s a time of family get-togethers, going into debt, and TV and movie studios trying their best to cater to everyone. Unless you’re on the Hallmark Channel, and it’s pretty obvious you’ve got one specific demo you are targeting with extreme prejudice.
Over the years, many Christmas-themed movies and TV specials have danced across screens, both big and small. Some of them are classics like A Muppet Christmas Carol, or It’s a Wonderful Life. Others go out of their way to try and be extreme in their counter-programming, like Silent Night, Deadly Night (which has somehow made six total films over the years…good lord).
And then others are just so odd and unexpected that they deserve their own list, and that’s what we’re doing today. I’m not sure this list should be counted as Nice or Naughty; we’ll say...

20th Century Fox wasn’t sure what it had in Star Wars, and apparently, neither did George Lucas. The director was building up his company, Lucasfilm, and unleashed his secret weapon: Charley Lippincott. He whipped people into a previously unknown frenzy by working the fans at science fiction and comics conventions. He saw to it DelRey had the novelization out months before the film, as well as three of the six-issue comics adaptation from Roy Thomas and Howard Chaykin at Marvel. These people were lined up for day one, and the word of the month spread so fast that it endured throughout the summer of 1977.

It’s never too early to review Christmas movies is it?! In fact, this isn’t the first Christmas horror movie I’ve reviewed for Nerdly this year, but now it’s November expect a few more. Splinter shows a man whose wife and son were murdered over Christmas, and he has now become a recluse. Despite Christmas now being long gone, the decorations and tree are still up, and he believes something or someone is watching him. Is it the ghosts of his wife and son, or something much worse?
Director David Bryant does a good job of making you forget about the movie’s low budget. He keeps the film character-driven, with plenty of dialogue and a strong story. It’s a brave move in...

People forget that George Harrison often produced songs for other groups and artists. John Lennon was a big fan of a tune George produced for a band that wasn’t The Beatles. Despite the tune’s pedigree — and John’s endorsement of it — it remains obscure. The track sounds like it could’ve been written for the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll.
John Lennon said a George Harrison-produced song was ‘amazing’
During a 1974 interview with Lennon on Lennon: Conversations With John Lennon, John discussed hearing George’s music on the radio. “Well, it was hours ago when we played these records, but we’ll tell you what was happening hours ago, ’cause if you’re like me, you wait and wait to hear what it was, you know,” he said. “Why don’t they tell you what it is? A few hours ago … oh, it’s not this list up there; oh,...

One of the most foundational pillars of horror also happens to be one of its more nebulously defined subgenres: the creature feature. At its most ubiquitous of definitions, the creature feature is simply a horror movie in which a monster plays a prominent role as the primary antagonist; the term says it all. It’s the creature part that’s loose for interpretation, of course.
A creature feature could be anything from carnivorous aliens from space to manmade monsters that turn on their makers, and everything in between. Often, a creature feature highlights nature running amok. This week’s streaming picks are dedicated to the horror movies that bring the monster mayhem in various ways, but all showcase excellent practical effects.
More specifically, this week belongs to underseen creature features that deserve more attention. As always, here’s where you can stream them this week.

It started as a joke. Way back in the ’80s, the phenomenon we now call “superhero fatigue” was already a thing, at least among comics afficionados. Frustrated with pulp creators recycling the same old ideas, Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird hatched the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The idea was to poke fun at how lame mainstream heroes had gotten, but the parody got so popular, it spawned a mini-empire of its own: movies, games, TV series and a whole lotta merch. At a certain point (around the time Michael Bay got involved), the brand got out of hand. Time for a reset.
With “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem,” Nickelodeon Movies takes the fertile turtle property back to its roots: Tapping “permanent teenager” (as the trailer cleverly dubs the former “Freaks and Geeks” star) Seth Rogen to produce, the toon studio commissioned an animated reboot that focuses on the ooze-boosted vigilantes’ awkward adolescent identities,...

Despite having risen to fame six decades ago, The Beatles still remain a household name today. The quartet, comprised of Paul McCartney, George Harrison, John Lennon, and Ringo Starr, had plenty of hits together, solo, and even with other artists — the latter of which were not always so clearly known.
Every now and then, The Beatles were known to disguise themselves under silly pseudonyms and take part in other bands’ tracks. George Harrison was no exception; his fans might be surprised to learn he had a number of secret collaborations.

Absurd, Uncomfortable Transactions
March wound up being a wild mix of episodes, starting with the classic thrills of UK haunted house film The Haunting, followed by a return to Woodsboro for last year’s Scream (2022), celebrating the 25th anniversary of Erotic Thriller Wild Things, as well as the practical effects of low budget creature feature Splinter, before wrapping things up with Canadian coming of age film Closet Monster.

We’ve been making our way through March with a wild range of films. We began with Robert Wise’s iconic queer film The Haunting, unlocked the Patreon vault to re-release our super-sized episode on Scream (2022), then hopped in the pool to discuss classic 90s Erotic Thriller Wild Things.
Now we’re going the indie route for Toby Wilkins‘ outstanding 2008 low budget creature feature film, Splinter.
In the film, Polly (Jill Wagner) and her boyfriend Seth (Paulo Costanzo) are celebrating their anniversary when their car is hijacked by criminals Dennis (Shea Whigham) and Lacey (Rachel Krebs). Forced to stop at a remote gas station, the foursome must band together when they encounter a strange parasite that is infecting humans and animals alike. Holed up inside and cut off from society, will the group survive the night or will they become infected with splinters, too?

Gravitas Ventures has given a digital release to writer/director David Bryant’s new psychological chiller Splinter, and to help you decide whether or not this is a movie you’d like to see, we have the trailer embedded at the top of this article. If you do want to check Splinter out, you can do so at This Link.
Starring Bill Fellows (Coronation Street), Splinter tells the following story: Following the murder of his family, John becomes a recluse, trapped inside his home. Surrounded by memories, he believes someone, or something, is watching him. Could it be the ghosts of his wife and son, or something far worse?
Splinter was produced by Filo Films and Sea and Sky Pictures.
Bryant had this to say about the film: “I wanted to tell a traditionally haunting tale full of tension but present it in a realistic portrayal of one man’s mental breakdown.

HBO and HBO Max will be home to new original films, highly anticipated streaming debuts of new releases, and the finales of three popular series throughout February. Below, we’ve assembled a complete list of everything new on HBO and HBO Max in February 2022, and it includes a new thriller from director Steven Soderbergh and starring Zoe Kravitz called “Kimi.” The original feature takes place in a Covid-19 pandemic Seattle and follows an agoraphobic tech worker who discovers violent crimes have occurred in a data stream. The Max Original film premieres on Feb. 10.
Also coming in February is the “Raised by Wolves” Season 2 premiere on Feb. 3, with new episodes released weekly, as well as the season premiere of “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” on Feb. 20. For its list of new releases of February 2022, HBO Max is bringing back one of its biggest original series.
The Ridley Scott-directed sci-fi epic Raised by Wolves helped launch HBO Max back in 2020 and now it’s finally back for another season. Raised by Wolves season 2 premieres with three episodes on Feb. 3. This season will continue the conflict between future atheists and theists on a remote planet, while two androids raise some kids.
February 2022 also sees the end of another, more recent HBO Max hit. Peacemaker airs its finale on Feb. 17. Thankfully that same day sees the premiere of another exciting original. Dream Raider is a Mandarin-language sci-fi thriller that carries some big Inception vibes.
There aren’t many original movies of note this month, but there are a lot of recent hits coming to HBO Max as library titles. Nightmare Alley arrives on Feb. 1, followed by The Many Saints of Newark on Feb.

The Walking Dead season 11 will introduce the biggest status quo shift in the show’s history, bringing the massive Commonwealth city-state from the comics to life. Already, trailers have teased parts of this post-apocalyptic city, including a dark subway with ominous messages scribbled on its walls, and there’s plenty more to be revealed if the show follows the comic book source material.
The Commonwealth setting will also usher in quite a few new characters to the show, including military officer Mercer (Michael James Shaw), who commands the faction’s defense forces as well as protects the settlement’s leadership. If the comic book is any indication, Shaw will be front and center as the biggest addition to the cast when the show returns in August.
But Walking Dead fans won’t have to wait that long to get a first look at Shaw portraying Mercer on the show. A...

(This article contains spoilers for the episode of “The Walking Dead” that was released on March 18 on AMC+, and March 21 on cable)
The original Season 10 finale of “The Walking Dead” introduced yet another new, potentially antagonistic new faction at the place where Eugene (Josh McDermitt) was supposed to meet the mysterious Stephanie. A group of white-armored troopers swarmed Eugene’s little crew as the episode cut to black.
Since those armor designs are ripped pretty much straight from the books, fans of the comics knew immediately that these guys are from a big city called the Commonwealth — or at least that’s what showrunner Angela Kang and co. want us to believe. With the way that “The Walking Dead” has played fast and loose with its adaptation of the story, however, I wouldn’t be so quick to make assumptions.
The big complicating factor is the Civic Republic, the villain...

Princess is struggling.
The Walking Dead Season 10 Episode 20 was the episode fans of Princess have been waiting for. Instead of shedding light on the mysterious new group that resembles stormtroopers, it was a deep dive into one of the show's more unique characters.
It's hard to determine what was fact and what was fiction during "Splinter," which followed Princess as she reacted to being locked up on a train cart as everyone else was seemingly going through their own version of hell.
Danger lurks around every corner on The Walking Dead, but this new group of people seems sketchier than any of the groups we've encountered to date.
Tragically, Princess found a group of people willing to work with her, only for them to be taken away from her when she found comfort in belonging to a group.
Princess built a strong connection with Yumiko, Ezekiel, and Eugene during their days together,...

The Walking Dead season 10’s original finale, “A Certain Doom,” ended with a shocking reveal that completely shattered the status quo of the show. Just as Eugene, Yumiko, Princess, and Ezekiel were about to meet up with the mysterious Stephanie, they were intercepted by a new group of armored soldiers that likely look very familiar to fans of Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard’s original comic book.
They’re of course the Commonwealth, a new faction that are unlike anything Alexandria has ever faced. Technologically more advanced and with greater numbers than our heroes could ever imagine, the Commonwealth stand apart from every other group ever featured on the show. To say more about the motivations of this group, where they’re from, and what plans they might have for Eugene and friends would be a spoiler, so just know this: the arrival of the Commonwealth likely means that the 11th and final season,...

Each of The Walking Dead season 10C’s six episodes will center around a different cast of central characters. As we saw last week, the premiere “Home Sweet Home” focused on Maggie, her new group, and the Reapers that are menacing them. Next week’s “One More” will focus on Gabriel and Aaron. Two other episodes, “Splinter” and “Here’s Negan” will focus on the railyard crew and Negan, respectively.
There are, however, two characters in this six-episode run who will receive multiple centric installments. And as one would expect, it’s none other than Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) and Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride). This week’s “Find Me” will center on the pair as will week five’s “Diverged.” The synopsis for “Find Me” reads:
“An adventure for Daryl and Carol turns sideways when they come across an old cabin. It takes Daryl back to the years when he...

With The Walking Dead's penultimate season gearing up for a big finish, the AMC zombie drama is casting its final season.
The newest addition is Michael James Shaw, who has been locked in to play Mercer.
Mercer had a heavy presence during the final arc of the comic books the series hails from.
In the comics, he plays the Commonwealth Army commander, a man who stands out thanks to his red armor and a pair of axes he uses as his weapons of choice.
If you watch The Walking Dead online, you know the Commonwealth arc is only just beginning, so it makes sense to reveal who will be playing such a pivotal character.
Shaw is well-known for his appearances on Bull, Blue Bloods, and Blood & Treasure on the small screen, but on the big screen, he has appeared as Corvus Glaive in Avengers Infinity War and Avengers Endgame.

The Walking Dead has confirmed that Negan’s wife Lucille will be making her debut soon. In the upcoming six episodes that make up “season 10C”, the sixth episode will feature Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s real life wife, actress Hilarie Burton, portraying Negan’s long lost spouse.
While getting to see Lucille is nice, it also begs the question: what about the other Lucille? Negan’s iconic choice of weapon is a simple wooden baseball bat wrapped with barbed wire that he named after his wife. The barbed-bat helped complete the physically imposing persona that eventually installed him as a ruthless leader of The Saviors.
Unfortunately, we haven’t seen Lucille “in the flesh” for awhile now. At least not the original version of it. Thanks to a new clip from AMC, however, it seems that Lucille is not lost for good just yet. Check out the exclusive trailer from...

The Walking Dead is returning in February 2021. This week, AMC confirmed that we can expect to see the next batch of episodes from the post-apocalyptic drama arrive in a few months’ time and now, we’ve got a bunch of new synopses which tease what what’s to come when the series resumes for season 10C, which is a special six-part mini-season produced to keep us entertained while we wait for the eleventh and final run.
First of all, this overall synopsis reminds us where things left off as well as promising a crisis of faith for the survivors as they ponder the state of the world, humanity and their own souls in the wake of the defeat of the Whisperers. This fits with how showrunner Angela Kang has teased “a deep dive into the characters” in these episodes.

This Walking Dead article contains spoilers.
The forces of Alexandria, Hilltop, Kingdom, and Oceanside put an end to Beta and the Whisperer threat in “A Certain Doom” but that doesn’t mean that The Walking Dead season 10 is over. AMC has extended the season, adding six more episodes that will explore new mysteries set up in the original finale. The extra episodes will also bridge the gap between season 10 and 11, a two-year 24-episode season that will be the show’s last.
So, with 30 episodes left in The Walking Dead story, what do we know about those first six? AMC has released the titles and synopses for the remaining episodes, which give us some clues as to what to expect:
Maggie’s Past Will Come into Focus

We finally know when to expect The Walking Dead back on our screens. The future of the post-apocalyptic drama was thrown into doubt earlier this year over the pandemic, but eventually we learned what AMC had planned for their flagship series. A jumbo-sized season 11 will be the show’s last, but that won’t kick off until fall 2021. In the meantime, a mini-season of six new episodes will tide us over.
We’d previously just been told that these installments would air early next year, but today, the network revealed exactly when we can expect the first one to premiere. Episode 10×17 “Home Sweet Home” will debut on February 28th, 2021. Those who are subscribed to AMC+, though, will be able to catch the outing, and those that follow, three days early.

Playground Films has optioned Hilary Bell’s Sydney Theatre Company stage play Splinter and Fiona Wright’s novel Small Acts of Disappearance.
David Barker and Melissa Anastasi are currently adapting both works; Splinter into a feature film, and Small Acts of Disappearance into an eight-part TV dramedy.
Splinter centres around an abducted child, mysteriously returned to her parents nine months after her disappearance, unable, or unwilling, to speak. A modern-day gothic, it follows the unravelling of the parents’ relationship in the aftermath of their trauma.
Anastasi, whose short film Chlorine recently won an Australian Directors’ Guild Award will direct, with Barker to produce. The project is currently in script development in consultation with Bell.

There are just 30 episodes left of The Walking Dead. The long-running show recently wrapped up its tenth season, setting in motion the events of the series’ conclusion with the appearance of high tech soldiers from the Commonwealth. But despite being officially over, there’s still a bit more to come before the eleventh and final run. And to fill the lengthy gap between now and then, we’re getting a six-episode season 10C in Spring 2021.
That’s in production at the moment and to whet our appetites, AMC has been releasing videos of the table reads. Last month, we got a clip from “Home Sweet Home,” showing the reunion of Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), just after the Whisperer War had concluded.
Now, they’ve followed that up with another ‘clip’ from an episode titled “Splinter.” This one features Ezekiel (Khary Payton), Eugene (Josh McDermitt), Yumiko (Eleanor Matsuura...

There’s more smoke than fire in “Burn,” a reasonably promising single-location thriller that never quite settles on what it wants to be — a straight-up suspense piece, twisty black comedy, oddball character study, etc. “All the above” would be a tall but not impossible order to pull off. The problem is that writer-director Mike Gan’s first feature, though competently handled in most departments, doesn’t commit enough to any approach to fulfill its potential.
The result is a passably diverting, moderately offbeat but also instantly forgettable hybrid that doesn’t even rank among the best truck-stop-in-crisis movies: “Shack Out on 101” and “Splinter” remain unchallenged atop that slim hierarchy. “Burn” opens on 10 U.S. screens Aug. 23, simultaneous with VOD and Digital launch.

For nearly two decades, festival director Rachel Belofsky and her tireless creative team have nurtured the growth and development of Screamfest Horror Film Festival, providing a platform to celebrate up-and-coming filmmakers while still honoring the genre’s past with vital anniversary screenings and Q&As. Although it may be hard to believe, Screamfest is officially an adult now, as the festival turns the big 18 this year, and when the festival kicks off tonight at Tcl Chinese 6 Theaters on Hollywood Boulevard, guests are in for one hell of a cinematic party.
Daily Dead recently spoke with Belofsky about everything attendees can look forward to at this year’s Screamfest, and as per usual, this year is akin to a plastic pumpkin bowl on Halloween night, one that's brimming with horror-themed treats for all to enjoy.
It wouldn’t be Screamfest without an exciting lineup of world premiere screenings, and this year...

Last week, I gave you guys a few lists from Amazon and Netflix in regards to what they have to offer via their streaming services this fall. As a newbie to Hulu, I only discovered over the weekend that they, too, beyond just being an amazing resource for television programming, offer up a killer selection of genre movies that are free to stream with a standard Hulu membership.
Here’s a look at an assortment of 31 films from Hulu that I think would be great movies to stream this October. I tried to give you guys a wide variety, too, hitting various sub-genres, so hopefully there’s a little bit of something for everyone in this list.
The Faculty
As far as high school horror films go, The Faculty has remained one of my very favorites for years now. Essentially, it’s Robert Rodriguez riffing on The X-Files, and who can resist that?...
