The anthology horror film is back in the wake of the success of chapter-style horror films like The Theatre Bizarre (2011) and its announced follow-up, V/H/S (2012), the soon-to-be-released sequel V/H/S 2 (2013) and The ABC’s of Death (2012).
While this movement generates a good deal of conversation about the fondly remembered Amicus productions of the 1960’s and 1970’s like Dr. Terror’s House Of Horrors (Freddie Francis, 1965), Torture Garden (Freddie Francis, 1967), The House That Dripped Blood (Peter Duffell, 1971) and Asylum (Roy Ward Baker, 1972) among others, the comparison is not exactly accurate across the board.
While the segments of V/H/S are unified by shared visual style and a wraparound story, The Theatre Bizarre and The ABC’s of Death come off as collections of essentially unrelated horror short films loosely bound by a flimsy wraparound segment in the case of The Theatre Bizarre or a basic concept as...

A new featurette has arrived for Starz's upcoming "Da Vinci's Demons," in which we meet a 15th century version of Hillary Clinton: the elegant, beautiful, and deceptively powerful Clarice Orsini as portrayed by Lara Pulver.
Orsini is the wife of Lorenzo Medici (played by Elliot Cowan) and part of the ultimate Florentine “power couple” in David S. Goyer’s new Starz Original Series “Da Vinci’s Demons.” Lara Pulver (“True Blood,” “Sherlock,” “Robin Hood”), who plays Orsini, compares her character to “a modern-day Hillary Clinton or a Wallis Simpson – a powerhouse of a woman who is a devoted wife and mother and yet, a very forward-thinking, intelligent, driven woman.”

We're just a month away from the April 12th debut of "Da Vinci's Demons" on Starz, and here's a new teaser for the series created by David S. Goyer that presents a never-before-seen portrayal of one of the most infamous historical figures of all time… Leonardo da Vinci.
"Leonardo was a transformational figure—the original Renaissance man and the kind of genius that only emerges every thousand years or so,” said Goyer. “What I like about this image is that it embodies a lot of the show's themes. It's aspirational. The triumph of the human spirit over ignorance and repression—the audacity of imagination."

It’s May 1, 2012, when I land in Sofia, Bulgaria, for a set visit to the then-shooting Declan O’Brien written and directed flick Wrong Turn 5: Bloodlines, and the first thing I notice after the eleven-hour flight from Los Angeles to Munich, Germany, and the two-hour connecting flight to Sofia is the seemingly foreboding signage in the airport, which reads...
“Welcome to Bulgaria. Tell Your Friends and Family.”
I’m a bit delirious with jet-lag and interpret this as a warning (perhaps I’ve seen Hostel one too many times), and follow the production assistant who greets me to her van. It’s eleven at night, and a handful of arriving passengers about me clutch their leashed dogs in an attempt to keep them from tussling with the stray canines which meander about the terminal’s exterior (I would soon learn that Sofia’s population of homeless dogs hovers around...

The Twilight franchise is finally coming to an end, and Peter Facinelli is shedding the sparkling skin of Carlisle Cullen to get his horror on with Gallows Hill.
Facinelli is teaming up with director Victor Garcia (Return to House on Haunted Hill, Mirrors 2, Hellraiser: Revelations) for a film that, at first, seems like it would be a better fit for something on the Lifetime channel, but things take a turn for the creepy side of things before too long.
In Gallows Hill, an American (Facinelli), widowed from his Colombia-born wife, flies to Bogota with his new fiancée (Sophia Myles) to retrieve his rebellious teenage daughter, Jill (Nathalia Ramos). After a car accident leaves them stranded in a rundown isolated inn, they discover the old innkeeper has locked a young girl in the basement and decide to free her. If there ever was an impossible mission to fall into a young director's lap, the ninth chapter in the painfully drawn out Hellraiser saga would be it. The mission, should Victor Garcia choose to accept it: Craft the next installment in one of the most celebrated horror franchises of all time with a meager budget and a skeleton crew in a space of about two weeks.
Hellraiser: Revelations never stood a chance.
Pushed into production by the Weinsteins merely to keep their hold on the franchise rights, this would be Garcia's third feature film after 2007's Return to House On Haunted Hill and the 2009 sequel to Mirrors. If a frantic production plan wasn't enough, Revelations would be the first chapter that series icon Doug Bradley chose to side step. With fans already foaming at the mouth, primed to tear the film a new asshole even before release, the final straw...

Let’s face it; despite featuring Keifer Sutherand, Director Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes remake) and some brutal, creative death sequences, the 2008 remake was an overblown mess of a horror film. Even Sutherland hilariously pulling a gun on a nun couldn’t raise it above mediocrity.
So a sequel (Mirrors 2), minus the talents of Sutherland, Aja, and with a story completely unrelated to the first film, was looking to be quite the grim affair. Naturally, I just had to watch it.
It’s been one year since Max Matheson (Nick Stahl) was involved in a car accident that saw the death of his fiancée Kayla, and he is still coming to terms with his overwhelming grief. He soon receives a phone call from his father Jack (William Katt) who offers him a job as a security guard at the Mayflower Department store (the...

For those keeping a close eye on the Hellraiser franchise, The Weinstein Company is releasing the ninth installment (Hellraiser: Revelations) this September in limited release.
Like many sequels, Revelations was made with the best of intentions. Dimension, The Weinstein Company's horror subsidiary, was faced with losing the Hellraiser rights, thereby jeopardizing their long-planned remake of the 1987 original. Rather than let the rights expire, the studio gave director Victor García (Return to House on Haunted Hill) two weeks and $300,000 dollars to make something out of Gary Tunnicliffe's script.

So here's the long and short of it, in order for Dimension to keep the rights to the "Hellraiser" franchise, they need to make something fast. And so they did. And the resulting "Hellraiser: Revelations" as you can see below looks every bit like the cheap rights-retaining production it set out to be. Marking the first time Doug Bradley isn't portraying the iconic Pinhead--some guy named Jay Gillespie steps in instead--the franchise is now scraping the bottom of the barrel with the cheapie sequel specialist Víctor García ("Mirrors 2," "Return to House on Haunted Hill") being given $75 and an…...

In a cinematic landscape where the only horror films currently being greenlit by studios are remakes, you'd think that a brand new Hellraiser sequel would be a sight for sore eyes. And indeed, it probably would have been, if original writer/director Clive Barker had been involved in any way. Unfortunately, this is now the ninth film in the series and it was directed by Victor Garcia (Mirrors 2, Return to House on Haunted Hill) and written by Gary J. Tunnicliffe (Megalodon, Guardian). It looks like direct-to-video fare all the way, and to make matters worse, it's the first Hellraiser movie that doesn't star Doug Bradley as Pinhead. Word on the street is that The Weinstein Company threw this thing together just so they could retain the rights to the franchise. Clive Barker himself is none too pleased by the project; he recently tweeted, "I want to put on record...

If you knew it was happening at all, your expectations for the ninth instalment in the original Hellraiser franchise may have been somewhat low. Prepare to drop them further, if you dare to take a look at the trailer for Hellraiser: Revelations. To recap, this is a stopgap release from Dimension, to prevent their rights lapsing before Patrick Lussier can get going on his reboot, which ought to be a bigger deal. Revelations was knocked together in record time on a tiny budget (estimated at under a million bucks), circumstances it's apparently attempted to get around by going the found-footage route to some extent. Sadly, on this evidence, it still plays like a fan film, an impression not helped by Stefan Smith Collins' karaoke Pinhead. Doug Bradley, probably wisely, wasn't interested.Nick Eversman (Vampires Suck) and Jay Gillespie (2001 Maniacs) star as Steve and Nico, backpackers in Mexico looking for dodgy new experiences and,...

I have a love/hate relationship with Amanda Righetti, unbeknownst to her, she was the reason I lost a major advertiser. Like a lot of actresses Righetti wants to hide from her past, and doesn't want people to know she appeared nude in the 2002 film Angel Blade. Unfortunately for Righetti, the internet never forgets, and the nude vidcaps are only a simple Google search away. In all fairness Righetti has done a lot more than appear nude. She was on The O.C., has a regular role on the TV show The Mentalist and has starred in the horror films Return to House on Haunted Hill and of course Platinum Dunes' forgettable remake of Friday the 13th.

The Disappearance Of Alice Creed The Disappearance of Alice Creed opens with two men prepping for what we can only assume—given the title of the film (despite any revelations about its meaning that may come later)—is a kidnapping. We assume correctly. They pull a girl into a van, tie her to a bed, strip her of all her clothes, snap photos of her, and put new clothes on her. All of this takes places without any dialogue, or any understanding of who these people are, how they know each other, or what their motivations are. The less you know about what happens from that point forward, the better. This is the sort of assured, smartly...

Talk back and tell us whether or not you agree, and what You think of the first pic. Do you like your new master? Update: We learned exclusively that Peta Wilson has been replaced by Devon Sorvari (The Dark, The Realm). According to the ever-so unreliable IMDb Steven Brand (as "Dr. Ross Craven"), Sanny Van Heteren (as "Kate Bradley"), Tracey Fairaway (as "Emma") and Daniel Buran (as "Vagrant") all star in Dimension Films' low budget Hellraiser: Revelations. If the site is correct, Brand landed the lead role of Dr. Craven, a man who is attempting to bring the family back to normal after his son went missing two years ago. He's described as a "good man that has fought hard to keep his family together." Fairaway plays his daughter, Emma, described as "lovely and inquisitive and on the verge of her own womanhood." Filming is already underway here in Los Angeles under the direction of Víctor Garcia (Return to House on Haunted Hill, Mirrors II). FX specialist Gary J. Tunnicliffe penned the screenplay.

According to the site, the non-3D film will be titled Hellraiser: Revelations and will be directed by Victor Garcia (Mirrors 2, Return to House on Haunted Hill). The screenplay was delivered by special effects artist Gary Tunnicliffe, who also pushed his (horrible) ideas for the new Pinhead online last year. Even though director Alexandre Aja's 2008 horror movie, Mirrors, was brutalized by critics and didn't quite earn back its $35 million production budget at the domestic box office, it took in an additional $46 million internationally, which was apparently enough to warrant a sequel, albeit a direct-to-dvd sequel. Based on the concepts first developed in the 2003 Korean movie Into the Mirror, Mirrors 2 was directed by Victor Garcia (Return to House on Haunted Hill) and stars Nick Stahl, William Katt, Emmanuelle Vaugier, and Stephanie Honore.
