Henry says he is working on getting both his M.D. (Doctor of Medicine) and PhD. (Doctor of Philosophy) because he wants to do research, specifically on genetic disorders, but doesn't want to deal with or treat patients. The main reason a person goes through the intense work load (eight years of med school instead of four) of earning two doctorate degrees at once to get their M.D. and PhD. is because they want to do both research and patient care. If all Henry wants to do is research then he doesn't need to get a degree in medicine, a PhD. in a field like biochemistry or genetics is all he would need.
