This is Thelma Lou's only appearance in the episodes that were shown in color.
The banner at the Reunion states that all the characters are from the graduating class of 1948. This would generally mean the following:
1. Andy and Barney were born in 1930.
2. As this story is from 1966, it has been 18 years says this group graduated from high school. (18 years is a slightly odd amount of time to have a high school reunion)
3. Any individuals from this graduating class would have served in the military during the relatively peaceful time of the late 1940s, or possibly during the Korean War.
4. Andy and Barney's characters were approximately 36 years old during this story.
5. Opie's character would be approximately 12 years old during this television season, meaning that Andy's character had Opie when Andy was approximately 22 years old.
6. It has been noted in the goofs section, that three seasons earlier, another high school reunion story line indicated that these characters were from the class of 1945, not 1948 as in this story. Being that the actor, Andy Griffith, was actually born in 1926, the 1945 graduating year, is actually more accurate to Andy Griffith's real age.
In 1966, Don Knotts won a Primetime Emmy award for his performance in this episode, "The Return of Barney Fife."
As Barney pulls into town in his Edsel, the license plate on the back can be made out as AY-321 with yellow letters on a black background. This is the same license plate that is seen on Aunt Bee's convertible four shows later ("Aunt Bee Learns to Drive") in numerous shots of the rear of her vehicle after the accident with the tree.
Alberta Nelson played Nettie Albright, a classmate of Andy and Barney in this episode. In real life she was 13 years younger than Don Knotts.
