I liked it but.....

......Andy is usually the smart, sensible one on the show but in this episode he's the dumb one. Obviously there are ways to do have multiple interests and he should've been the one to understand that, not a football player.

Yes, It's Kind of Dumb

I have a wife who taught instrumental music. There is a honeymoon period with a new instrument. Many drop by the wayside, but many learn the excitement of being successful. So it isn't surprising that Opie would like to learn the piano and have lessons. Of course, an NFL player showing up as they fool around at football is going to pull at his time. So we have the conflict of time commitments and commitment in general. We have a lazy dad who is afraid he may have to participate in his son's musical development, and a lack of pure flexibility. I do need to comment on the football players. They look about as bad as one can look. Different helmets, jerseys, and the pure clumsiness that comes from child actors who don't know what they are doing.

Path of least resistance

Warning: Spoilers
Quite aside from the whole matter of why Opie doesn't simply inform his father of the sudden emergence of a former NFL star to coach his youth football team, there's the perplexing issue of how Opie can be oblivious to being his team's quarterback prior to wanting to take piano lessons. The team is clearly established with adult supervision, notwithstanding its somewhat ragtag appearance.

While the episode itself is marginally entertaining, it gives the impression that Opie is either scatterbrained or unwilling to confront what ultimately amounts to a scheduling conflict, electing to fabricate excuses to delay his piano lessons.

Best part is Opie's shirt changing.

A very weak episode. Bad acting by the football team,. Attempts at humor flopped. Wouldn't it make sense to try the piano lessons on a trial basis say for a couple of weeks? Opie's whole other activities are supposed to be secondary? Two hours a day for a kid to practice on a piano is reficulous. Bad writing. There had to be a more sensible, funny way to carry out the premise other than this stinker episode. Always a treat to see Maudie Prickett.
