‘Furiosa’ Composer Tom Holkenberg aka JunkieXL Teases Score with First Single, ‘Dementus Is Gaining’
We can already feel our theater seats shaking. This past Friday, “Furiosa” composer Tom Holkenberg (aka Junkie Xl) dropped a taste of his upcoming score for the film with the single, “Dementus Is Gaining”. The propulsive electronica track features a familiar trance-like beat that incorporates the sound of revving engines, but also has a noticeably more haunting quality than that of the score for “Mad Max: Fury Road”, implying a prequel that may have more of an emotional bite than its predecessor.
“My collaboration with the incredible George Miller began over a decade ago with our work on ‘Mad Max: Fury Road,’ a project that marked a pivotal moment in my career as a film composer,” says Holkenberg. “Returning to this world to score the odyssey of ‘Furiosa,’ an epic tale of survival, resilience and revenge has been just as eye-opening and gratifying. ‘Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga’ is a...

At the turn of the century, right around the time Almost Famous made her an instant superstar, word got around that Kate Hudson could sing, for real. Inevitably, the pop machine, which happened to be running at maximum efficiency in that particular historical moment, tried to catch her in its gears. “People in the industry would say, ‘Let’s make a record,’” says Hudson. “‘Let’s do this. Let’s do that.’ And I always felt not ready. I don’t know why that was my response. Something was stopping me,...

World-renowned director Steven Spielberg was at the height of his career when he made the Oscar-winning film "Schindler's List," but he wasn't the only filmmaker who was interested in adapting the novel of the same name for the silver screen. The acclaimed director Billy Wilder, an auteur of classic Hollywood cinema who penned and directed such renowned films as "The Apartment" and "Sunset Boulevard," was also vying for the rights to turn this story into a movie. However, by the time Thomas Keneally's evocative historical novel was published in 1993, Wilder's career was already winding down.
For a long time, Wilder enjoyed one of the most prosperous careers in Hollywood. His Oscar-nominated 1944 film "Double Indemnity" is considered the signal film of noir cinema and the model of the femme fatale trope. After Wilder's smashing success "Sunset Boulevard" earned three Oscars in 1951, he quickly went on to release several star vehicles...

One of the biggest upcoming movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is definitely ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’ This third installment is significant for a few reasons. It marks Deadpool’s introduction into the MCU and stands as the only MCU film slated for release in 2024. There’s hope that it will help regain some of the trust lost by fans due to several poorly received movies in recent years.
Recently, a teaser trailer dropped during the Superbowl, giving us a peek into the movie’s plot. We see Wade Wilson, aka Deadpool, trying to get on with his life after bringing Vanessa back in ‘Deadpool 2.’ However, his plans are interrupted when he’s nabbed by Tva Agent Mr. Paradox, though the reason remains a mystery. The teaser also confirmed the return of several familiar faces from the ‘Deadpool’ series. Morena Baccarin’s return was announced a few weeks ago,...

One of the biggest upcoming MCU releases is most certainly ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’ The third installment in the franchise marks several big things. It’s Deadpool’s first foray into the MCU and also the only MCU movie to be released in 2024, in the hopes of restoring at least some of the faith that the fans of the franchise lost in the last several years due to a string of several poorly received movies.
Recently, a teaser trailer was released during the Superbowl and we got a glimpse into the overall plot of the movie we can see Wade Wilson just trying to live his life after he resurrected Vanessa in ‘Deadpool 2’ when he is apprehended by Tva Agent Mr. Paradox for yet unknown purpose. The teaser trailer also confirmed that several old faces from the ‘Deadpool’ franchise are going to be making a return. Morena Baccarin confirmed her return several weeks ago.

YouTube has continued its end-of-year recap by drawing insights from 2023’s top advertising trends. In a blog post, the YouTube ads team discussed the ways that AI, short-form content, and the creator economy powered winning campaigns over the past 12 months.
2022 was the year that YouTube touted its multiformat approach, and the platform supported that strategy in 2023 by rolling out new features like related links. Advertisers bought into the multiformat hype by spreading campaigns across long-form videos, live streams, and Shorts. YouTube cited Apple as one advertiser that varied the runtimes of its ads. Its 2023 spots ranged from short-form quick hitters to a 90-minute “Study With Me” video.
Another technological advancement — generative AI — opened up a new world of possibilities for advertisers on YouTube. As the platform introduced a full toolkit of AI-inspired features, it assisted advertisers through AI-driven Video Reach Campaigns that delivered 3.7 times more return on ad spend compared to manually optimized campaigns.

The first week of November 2023 is an incredible time for classic rock fans. November 2 saw the release of The Beatles’ “Now and Then” while November 4 will see the premiere of Priscilla, a new film about Elvis Presley’s relationship with his wife. This raises an interesting question: When was the last time fans were treated to a new Beatles single and a new Elvis movie in the same month?
Elvis Presley made a movie with a ‘Batman’ actor
Elvis knew how to make movies — and make ’em fast. 1968 saw the release of three new Elvis movies: the Western Stay Away, Joe, the Nancy Sinatra co-starring vehicle Speedway, and Live a Little, Love a Little, the movie that gave us “A Little Less Conversation.”
According to Graceland.com, Stay Away, Joe came out on March 8, 1968. The movie is most notable for featuring Burgess Meredith. Meredith was most known for playing the...

Astrakan (David Depesseville)
Astrakhan fur is unique: dark, beautiful, and stripped exclusively from newborn lambs, even ones killed in their mother’s womb. (Stella McCarthy once said it’s like wearing a fetus.) That ruthlessness—a sense of lost innocence; blood sacrifice—runs deep in Astrakan, a new film from France and one of the better in Locarno this year; and if that title isn’t enough to give pause, plenty else in the opening exchanges will. The first act is a procession of flags, both red and false: at the opening the protagonist, Samuel, lightly goads a snake in the reptile house of a zoo; moments later a rabbit is hung and skinned in his kitchen with all the ceremony of...

"The Flash"'s premiere was a family affair for Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. The actor brought daughters Filippa, 22, and Safina, 19, to celebrate the superhero film's debut in Los Angeles on June 12, marking a rare appearance for the trio. They posed together on the red carpet wearing casual-chic outfits - Nikolaj layered a chartreuse top under a gray plaid suit, Safina paired a beige jacket with gray pants, and Filippa wore a black long-sleeved dress with brown cowboy boots. Other stars in attendance included Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck, Sasha Calle, Kiersey Clemons, Michael Shannon, and Jessica Chastain.
Nikolaj shares Filippa and Safina with his wife, Nukâka Coster-Waldau, whom he married in 1998. Both Filippa and Safina are following in their father's footsteps as actors, portraying sisters in the Danish teen drama "Salsa," among other roles. Though Nikolaj tends to keep his family life pretty private, he's made a few public appearances with his daughters through the years.

Billy Preston is amongst an exclusive club of a few musicians who some refer to as the “fifth Beatle.” Billy Preston was a keyboard player who impacted The Beatles more than some may realize. Outside of The Beatles, Preston had an accomplished career, working with many of the greatest artists ever.

Some people are naturally gifted at playing instruments, and Preston realized his gift at a young age. By the age of 10, he was playing the organ for gospel singers like Mahalia Jackson, despite being entirely self-taught. At 11, he appeared on an episode of Nat King Cole’s NBC TV show and sang a Fats Domino song with Cole.
In 1962, Preston joined Little Richard’s band as an organist. While performing in Hamburg, Preston met The Beatles, who had been invited to be Little Richard’s opening act.

Debut film “A Life, A Rose” has attracted a heavyweight international investor in France’s Backup Media.

Francis Ford Coppola is known for big swings throughout his career, but one of his biggest was filming the adaptations of S.E. Hinton’s “The Outsiders” and “Rumble Fish” back-to-back and releasing them both in 1983 only months apart. The two movies’ filmmaking styles could not possibly be more different, with the lush Technicolor palette of “The Outsiders” giving way to the shadowy, moody black-and-white of “Rumble Fish,” a film so stylish in its look that it became a prototype for indies in years to come.
This is thanks to cinematographer Stephen H. Burum, the recipient of this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award at the international cinematography festival EnergaCamerimage in Poland. Burum was on hand after a retrospective screening of “Rumble Fish,” one of many of his films screened throughout festival. (Others range from “St. Elmo’s Fire” to “The Untouchables” to “Hoffa;” he received an Oscar nomination for the latter.) The 82 year-old lenser,...

Warning: Major spoilers ahead for season 3 of "The Orville."
Seth MacFarlane's "The Orville" is a sci-fi spectacle that takes inspiration from "Star Trek" and other space dramas, but the core of the show is its complex characters. Season 3 of the show, which dropped on Hulu two months ago, continues the story of the USS Orville and its crew's struggles to maintain peace in the galaxy. The Kaylons attacked the ship at the end of season 2 as a part of their plan to destroy biological life-forms, but the crew members managed to survive with the help of Isaac (Mark Jackson), a Kaylon himself.

The Orville ended its maiden Hulu mission with a (semi-awkward) Moclan mating ritual, a friendly visitor, and a wedding that went off with near-zero hitches. Was that low-key closer by design?
After all, the episode “Future Unknown” followed “Domino,” a rollicking hour-plus that dramatically shifted Union alliances, featured much derring-do and led to one crew member’s selfless, tragic sacrifice.

This review of The Orville: New Horizons contains spoilers.
The Orville: New Horizons Season 3 Episode 10
The episode title “Future Unknown” represents so many aspects of what is occurring both on and off screen within the Orville universe. Most notably, the show is still awaiting word on an official renewal from Hulu and parent-company Disney. Yes, fans want to know about their beloved show, and what is going to happen in our reality, but within the fictional reality of the series, there’s much to deal with as well.
After last week’s universe-shaking episode, “Domino,” there was a major shift in the dynamic of the overall story. An uneasy peace was reached with the Kaylon, the Union found themselves up against a new antagonistic alliance, and most importantly: we lost spitfire Ensign Charly Burke when she sacrificed herself to save the Kaylon race and, in turn, foster that aforementioned fragile truce.

Here are a few bits of trivia about the beloved family sitcom “The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet.” It ran 14 seasons from 1952-66, a record until Fxx’s “It Always Sunny in Philadelphia” kicked off its 15th season last year. But “Philadelphia” has only aired 162 episodes compared to a whopping 435 for “Ozzie and Harriet.”
Despite the fact it aired 14 years, the series only cracked the top 30 in its 11th season where it came in 29th place. The exterior shots were actually of the Nelsons’ real home at 1822 Camino Palmero Street in L.A. (it recently sold for 5.9 million) and the interiors were recreations of their own home. Though the TV Ozzie didn’t seem to have a job, the real-life Ozzie starred, produced, co-wrote and directed “Ozzie and Harriet.”
Topics were far from controversial. There was a whole episode revolving around the fact that a local store delivered new chairs that they hadn’t ordered.

The Orville: New Horizons Season 3 Episode 9
When The Orville: New Horizons was introduced eight weeks ago, it appeared to be everything you’d want to see was on the horizon. It was shiny, big, bold, exciting, and most importantly: it introduced new ingredients that promised to take the show in directions it had yet to explore.
Yet it would be all for naught if the scripts didn’t bring that same revitalized energy, or take any chances in terms of the story. If New Horizons lacked vision, then this could easily be an overinflated last horizon for the show.Proving once again that the writing team had a cohesiveness that makes this third season easily the strongest, “Domino” opens ominously on the rainy planet of Krill, where Chancelor Teleya (Michaela McManus) and a Moclan delegation meet to discuss an alliance against the Planetary Union.

With its list of new releases for June 2022, HBO Max is joining in what should be a TV summer to remember.
Not content to let Netflix’s Stranger Things or Prime Video’s The Boys to dominate the summer TV landscape, HBO is coming through with a new season of one of its big hits. Westworld season 4 is set to premiere June 26 on both HBO and HBO Max. What will this season of the increasingly confusing sci-fi drama be about? Per HBO’s synopsis it will be “A dark odyssey about the fate of sentient life on earth.” So you know, only that.
Irma Vep is the only other Max Original of note this month. Based on a 1996 cult classic of the same name, this limited series stars Alicia Vikander as a disillusioned movie star looking to remake the early 20th century French silent film serial Les Vampires.

With movie theaters fully back up and running, HBO Max no longer has any major film releases to point to with its list of new releases for May 2022. That’s alright though as the streamer is leaning into the HBO side of its branding to offer up some fun TV releases.
The biggest HBO Max original this month is undoubtedly the return of Hacks on May 12. The first season of this comedy starred Jean Smart as a venerated Vegas comedy and Hannah Einbinder as her new millennial assistant. The first batch of episodes was excellent and even won an Emmy or two for its troubles and now season 2 will look to keep up the good vibes.
Premiering on May 15, is The Time Traveler’s Wife. This series adaptation of the 2003 novel (which in turn became a a 2009 movie) keeps up with two star-crossed lovers who can never quite make the timing work…...

For a one-hit-wonder, Tommy McLain admits he has few complaints.
Back in 1966, he’d climbed into the top 15 with a swamp-lounge version of Don Gibson’s “Sweet Dreams,” which showcased the Louisiana native’s tremulous voice. Elvis Costello and Nick Lowe were fans of his work; Joe Strummer cut a cover of “Before I Grow Too Old,” a Fats Domino B-side associated with McLain (Strummer’s version was called “Silver and Gold”). The drugs and alcohol were behind him, and decades later, McLain was gigging regularly in his home state.

Genesis won’t turn it on again, staging what was billed as its final concert Saturday night at London’s 02 arena.
Phil Collins, the group’s former drummer, was joined by keyboardist Tony Banks and guitarist Mike Rutherford. Collins, age 71 and increasingly frail with back and hip issues, sat center stage throughout. He was in good humor, though, reportedly quipping at one point that he’ll now need to find a real job after the band’s demise.
Genesis’ “The Last Domino? Tour” came after a 14-year live performance hiatus. It was also postponed during the pandemic. The group’s final tour included concerts in the U.K. last September and in North America last fall, concluding with another 14 concerts in Europe and the U.K.
The trio were joined on the tour by Collins’ son, Nic, who also filled in for his father behind the kit during his recent solo tours.

Nearly 20 years later, “Joe Millionaire” returns this January with a revised format that puts a twist on the original ratings smash. But at least one thing remains the same in “Joe Millionaire: For Richer or Poorer” — and that’s the presence of a butler, assisting the Joes and driving the action. Variety can now reveal who the show’s new butler is: Actor, musician, author and celebrity impersonator Martin Andrew.
As butler, Andrew will also serve as host of “Joe Millionaire: For Richer or Poorer” and act as a guide for the contestants. The original 2003 “Joe Millionaire” featured both a butler and a host (Alex McLeod); in this new version, Andrew takes on both roles.

Los Angeles, March 13 (Ians) German-American actress Zazie Beetz is unsure about her character Dominos return in the third instalment of the "Deadpool" film franchise.
The 29-year-old actress revealed that while the original plans did include her character's return in "Deadpool 3", she is yet to hear back from the makers of the film, and those involved with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, mainly, Kevin Feige.
"No, I haven't (heard about Domino's return). I would love to revive the role. That was always in the world of what was potentially going to happen. I haven't had any specific conversations around it," she told collider.com.
She added that not only would she love returning to the film franchise, but also would have loved a standalone film based on her character.
"I'm interested. Not only would I love to revive the role, I would love to figure out a way to make a...

Countless directors have contended with the curse of the sophomore slump, but the saga of “Southland Tales” exists in a category of its own. Five years after his cult hit “Donnie Darko” established the filmmaker’s unique, surrealistic sci-fi voice, the filmmaker’s large-scale follow-up broke all the rules. Maligned at Cannes in 2006 when it premiered in an unfinished version, “Southland Tales” went back to the editing room, lost 20 minutes, and stumbled into theaters later in the year. Now, a new Blu-ray release from Arrow Video has brought the 160-minute Cannes cut to the public for the first time, and with it, an opportunity to fully assess one of the strangest American movies of this young century.
An audacious near-future pop fever dream under the guise of blockbuster aesthetics, “Southland Tales” starred Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as a movie star who keeps forgetting his past, Sarah Michelle Gellar as a...

While there’s the chance Animal Collective may release a new album this year––their first in five years––first up they’ve scored a new documentary. Crestone––which is written, produced, and directed by Marnie Ellen Hertzler in her feature debut––follows a group of SoundCloud rappers in the Colorado desert.
Ahead of a release on February 16, followed by a soundtrack release via Domino on February 19, the first red band trailer has now been unveiled. With the score primarily by Animal Collective’s Geologist & Deakin, the first glimpse can be heard in this preview, which shows off quite an uninhibited life in the wilderness.
A selection at SXSW and True/False, Vox Magazine‘s Fiona Murphy said, “Hertzler’s style in this movie is reminiscent of Harmony Korine’s Gummo. Throughout the film, she captures crude moments of an exaggerated reality and reflects humanity in the souls of the lost and bizarre.
