Among the best games ever made for the Transformers franchise are, without a doubt, Transformers: Fall of Cybertron and Transformers: War for Cybertron. The company that created the Transformers franchise, Hasbro, desired that they be made available on all platforms through Game Pass.

When taking on established animated franchises, you can’t just “listen to nostalgia,” according to Jeff Rowe, director of “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem.”
“That’s when things get stale,” he said during Variety’s “Innovation and Inspiration in Global Animation” panel at Annecy Animation Festival, moderated by international editor Elsa Keslassy. Rowe was joined by “Transformers One” director Josh Cooley, “The Smurfs Movie” helmer Chris Miller and María Trénor, the director of “Rock Bottom.”
“It’s important to look at things with fresh eyes and ask, ‘Does this make sense? Does a man who was a sensei turning into a rat make sense?'” Rowe continued. “Our goal was to make a film that those who have never heard of ‘Ninja Turtles’ – or hated it and hated that the movie was even happening – were still able to enjoy.”
Therefore, the team hired many people who had “no familiarity with the franchise.

David Ellison, chief executive of Skydance Media, thanked employees of his company for their focus as he was engaged in a months-long bid to merge with Paramount Global. And even though that effort failed, he said that Skydance is stronger after having gone through the M&a cycle.
On Tuesday, Shari Redstone’s National Amusements, the controlling shareholder of Paramount Global, said it had ended merger talks with Skydance because it was not able “to reach mutually acceptable terms regarding the potential transaction with Skydance Media for the acquisition of a controlling stake in Nai.”
In a memo to Skydance staffers Tuesday evening obtained by Variety, Ellison wrote, “As you all know, for the last several months we have been actively exploring a transaction to acquire Nai and merge with Paramount Global, and today that chapter ended.”

Last year, Paramount Animation presented a work-in-progress version of “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” at the Annecy Animation Festival, which was met with overwhelming support from the crowd.
On night two of this year’s event, the studio returned with a Wip screening of its big 2024 offering, “Transformers One,” and reactions were equally enthusiastic.
Backstage before the show, Annecy’s artistic director, Marcel Jean, told Variety that he’s wanted “Transformers One” at the festival since seeing early footage from the film during a West Coast trip last fall.
“In October of last year, I was in Los Angeles, and I had the opportunity to watch footage from the film,” he said. “It was, for me, a very high-level work. I spoke with Josh Cooley, and I said to Ramsey Naito, ‘We need to have the whole film in Annecy, like what we did with ‘Mutant Mayhem’ last year.

When the first trailer for Transformers One rolled out (from outer space), the response from fans was mixed. The animation style wasn't what most expected, while Thor star Chris Hemsworth replacing iconic Optimus Prime voice actor Peter Cullen was always going to divide opinions.
Well, a "work-in-progress" cut of the movie was shown at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival yesterday evening and early word isn't just good, it's overwhelmingly positive.
"It is exactly what it has been described as - an origin story for how two young robots went from being besties to mortal enemies, ultimately known as Optimus Prime and Megatron," The Wrap explains. "The animation style previewed in the early trailer; a kind of painterly, 1980s lunchbox aesthetic, is very much present in the final film — all vibrant colors and shiny surfaces."
The trade describes it as "something joyful, beautifully alive," claiming applause broke out at several points in the movie,...

Scarlett Johansson has been busy moving on from the billion-dollar MCU franchise and has already signed up for two other equally grand and famous franchises, Transformers, and Jurassic World. Slated to helm the upcoming Jurassic World movie, an apparent reboot of the long-running dinosaur saga, the actress has some big boots to fill.

Chris Hemsworth is having a resurgence after his days as Thor in the MCU. The actor was recently seen in George Miller’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga as the antagonist Dementus. Hemsworth’s performance as the unhinged warlord in a post-apocalyptic wasteland was universally acclaimed, and many considered it to be the best part of the film.
Hemsworth’s next release of the year will be his animation debut, Transformers: One. The animated film will feature the actor as a younger Optimus Prime, i.e., Orion Pax, along with actors such as Scarlett Johansson, Brian Tyree Henry, Steve Buscemi, and Keegan Michael-Key. The film’s premiere at the Annecy Animation International Film Festival was reportedly received with fanfare.

An unfinished version of Transformers One was screened at the Annecy Animation Festival earlier today, and the audience gave it a rousing standing ovation. Although those who saw the Transformers One screening have been sworn to silence, the first reactions that have emerged paint a very positive picture.
Director Josh Cooley introduced the movie, saying, “I’m very, very excited. So much talent and nostalgic love has gone into this movie.” He also thanked the team behind the film as the “greatest animators and CG artists in the world,” while also giving a shout-out to Industrial Light & Magic. Turning to the audience, he added, “I want to thank you all for being ‘audience one.’“

Director Josh Cooley took to the stage at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival on Monday to introduce a packed screening of a work-in-progress version of Transformers One.
“I’ve got that feeling you get when you’re giving a present and you know they’re going to be excited about it,” he said.
He had gauged the mood to a T with the Annecy spectators – most of whom weren’t born when the last Transformers theatrical animated feature film came out in 1986 – going wild for the film.
Transformers One is billed as the untold origin story of Optimus Prime and Megatron, who are now sworn enemies but were once friends bonded like brothers who changed the fate of their native home of Cybertron forever.
Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry and Scarlett Johansson lead the star-studded cast, which also features Keegan-Michael Key, Steve Buscemi, Laurence Fishburne and Jon Hamm.

As the Annecy Animation Festival gets underway, Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation president Ramsey Naito has revealed development on a string of original films — including the Bad Bunny- and Will Ferrell-produced film “Dropz” and a “Swan Lake” adaptation — which will sit alongside franchises such as Transformers, Smurfs and SpongeBob.
Naito describes “Dropz” as “our E.T. about real kids in a super extraordinary situation.” Producers Will Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum and David Koplan have teamed up with Bad Bunny, who is on board as an exec producer. Rob Letterman is directing and co-writing the script with Ike Holter. Naito adds that the story is “infused with fashion” and will be a “cultural statement” for kids and families.
“Muttnik” is a sci-fi comedy about a sweet puppy turned “Han Solo-type space bandit,” who is forced to return to the family on Earth that abandoned him. Ron Howard, Brian Grazer and Zareh Nalbandian are producing.

The so-called "MonsterVerse" is nowadays as silly as the original Toho "Godzilla" sequels became. The franchise's first entry, 2014's divisive but successful "Godzilla," looks downright anomalous. Directed with impeccable scale and craftsmanship by Gareth Edwards, the film exercises careful restraint, escalating the spectacle to make it more satisfying. The palette is made from smog and fire, i.e. what Godzilla and his monster adversaries (the MUTOs) leave in their wake. As star Elizabeth Olsen noted, the film is cut from the cloth of the original 1954 "Godzilla," where the eponymous monster is an allegory for nuclear destruction and natural disasters.
2014's "Godzilla" isn't perfect. It has a so-so script and Aaron Taylor-Johnson feels out of his depth as the lead (even if "The Fall Guy" proved he can be a movie star). Compared to the other MonsterVerse movies, though, it looks like "Jaws."
When Edwards' "Godzilla" went into production, the franchise was in a bad place.

Many of the recurring faces on "The Simpsons" have the same voice: Harry Shearer. Alongside Hank Azaria, Shearer does more than double duty in playing the series' supporting cast. As a testament to his range, his roles run the gamut from nice guy Ned Flanders to milquetoast Principal Skinner (don't say Armin Tamzarian) to evil Mr. Charles Montgomery Burns, owner of the Springfield Nuclear Plant and Homer Simpson's boss.
Shearer is the definitive voice of Mr. Burns (he's been doing it for 30+ seasons), but he wasn't the first actor to voice the character. That would be the late Christopher Collins, who was briefly part of the "Simpsons" cast during its first season, which aired from 1989 to 1990. Collins voiced Burns in the following episodes: "Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire," "Homer's Odyssey," "There's No Disgrace Like Home," and "The Telltale Head."
Shearer took over in the season 1 episode "Homer's Night Out.

With few exceptions, every show (and movie) about The Transformers has the same basic premise: Autobots wage their battles to destroy the evil forces of the Decepticons. Transformers: Earthspark, Paramount+’s kid-oriented take on the iconic brand, very explicitly set itself up to be one of those exceptions, breaking every aspect of that original premise in one way or another.

The concept of the director cameo is generally regarded as something frivolous. In stark contrast to those filmmakers who are actors (or at least aspire to be) and give themselves major roles in their own films, the director cameo typically involves a silent or otherwise minimal appearance, usually with a comedic element to it.
That's certainly the feeling of director Michael Bay, who enjoys putting himself in his own movies as a wink to both his crew and the audience. Beginning with 1998's "Armageddon," Bay tended to do a cameo either as a gag or as a dare, and wasn't shy about cutting his on-screen work out from his own movie (as he did in 2007's "Transformers"). However, as the story goes, while making 2003's "Bad Boys II" Bay originally hired a day player actor to play the part of a man driving a terrible car that Detectives Mike Lowery...

There are multiple offers on the table for Paramount, but the company’s three-headed ‘Office of the CEO’ has a plan if all the deals fall through.
Paramount Global is entering its seventh month of merger and acquisition discussions, and whether or not there is an end in sight remains a bit cloudy. After CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach last month permanently closed the door to Blue Bloods continuing beyond its upcoming final 8 episodes this fall, one of Paramount Global’s Office of the CEO members today opened the door to the franchise potentially carrying on.
During Paramount Global’s shareholder meeting this morning, Brian Robbins noted that Paramount is home of 14 brands across film and TV that have generated at least $1B in revenue, including NCIS, South Park, Yellowstone, SpongeBob SquarePants, Paw Patrol and Star Trek.
“We are building tomorrow’s billion dollar brands right now” he added. “In TV, new franchise extensions are coming for Dexter, Billions and Blue Bloods, and CBS’ hit Fire Country shows huge promise.”

Spinoffs for Dexter, Billions, Fire Country as well as NCIS have been announced; there has been no official word on a Blue Bloods offshoot yet.

These days Netflix’s global top is blown by a new sci-fi that turned out to be a failure. Jennifer Lopez-starring Atlas, following an analyst on her space mission together with the onboard AI, received a shameful 19% of critical acclaim on Rotten Tomatoes.
Luckily, it has rekindled people’s interest in robot movies, as one of them is now recalled by Netflix audience. It has recently gained such a strong viewership that it is now holding the forth place in the platform’s chart, even though it was released 13 years ago.
The film’s plot revolves around Charlie, a boxer who was forced to retire from sports ‘cause the boxing ring was taken over by heavier and more powerful robots. That is why he starts living a routine of collecting scrap metal and making low-end fighters of it.
Charlie’s life is about to change when he learns about the death of his ex-girlfriend,...

Mark Wahlberg has led one too many daunting projects that are spread across multiple genres, with video game-based action pieces being among them as well.
Like his 2008 action/crime from Irish director John Moore, Max Payne, for one to count, which may have received lukewarm reviews but was quite a successful piece when it comes to its box office scores, especially in the US.
Mark Wahlberg in Transformers. | Credit: Paramount Pictures.
Needless to say, Wahlberg performed epically in the movie; to the point where, perhaps, no one could play the character in live-action better. That said, even Moore thought through this very perspective before making the movie.
If anything, the filmmaker just may have even canceled his $80 million movie, perhaps, had the actor not signed on to star in it.

For Tony Todd, his voice role as Venom in in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is the latest in a career that has been full of heroes and villains.
The actor is known for his work ranging from Candyman, where he played the titular urban legend, to Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, in which he voiced the titular Decepticon known as The Fallen.
With Spider-Man 2, he steps into the suit of one of Spider-Man’s chief villains for the game that stands as PlayStation Studios’ fastest selling game, and which this this spring unveiled an update featuring new suits and the ability to replay at a harder difficulty. Venom, meanwhile, remains in the pop culture conciousness in more ways than one, with Tom Hardy unveilling the trailer for Venom: The Last Dance on Monday, showing that the character’s legacy traverses comics, games, movies (and even the multiverse).

Chris Hemsworth is a busy man. Since temporarily hanging up his cape and hammer following Taika Waititi's Thor: Love And Thunder, the Aussie action hero has returned as Tyler Rake in explosive Netflix sequel Extraction 2, strutted his Dementus stuff in George Miller's epic Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, and found time to lend his voice to a certain Optimus Prime in Josh Cooley's upcoming robots-in-disguise origin story Transformers One. And clearly the Autobot experience has been an, er, transformative one (sorry!) for Hemsworth. As reported by Deadline, the actor is currently in talks to lead Paramount's as-yet-untitled Transformers and G.I. Joe crossover movie.

It's (almost) official: Paramount Pictures is the latest Hollywood studio to merge with another major player in the business. After months of speculation, with multiple potential buyers entering the fold, it has been confirmed that Skydance Media, the producer of the "Mission: Impossible" franchise, will merge with the longstanding studio, per CNBC. The news comes just ahead of Paramount's annual shareholder meeting on Tuesday, June 4. It's expected that the deal will be formally announced by the company during the meeting.
Skydance RedBird Capital and investment firm Kkr partnered on the deal. It is valued at around $8 billion, which is far less than some other major media mergers in recent years. Disney's purchase of most of Fox's media assets, for example, cost a whopping $71.3 billion in 2019. Even Amazon's more recent purchase of MGM in 2022 was valued at $8.5 billion. But that speaks in large part to why this deal is happening.

Late last year, there were rumblings of a possible merger being considered with two movie studio giants — Warner Bros. and Paramount. It was reported that Zaslav met with Paramount Global CEO Bob Bakish in New York City to discuss a possible merger. The potential merger would bring many iconic entertainment franchises under one roof, including Star Trek, Harry Potter, Looney Tunes, Transformers, Mission: Impossible, DC, and more. It would also likely see the two streaming services — Max and Paramount+ — combine in order to more effectively challenge Netflix and Disney+.
Wall Street analysts were skeptical of that deal and knew that both companies would have to jump through significant hurdles in order for the deal to go through. That deal would ultimately fall through, but the New York Post is now reporting on a merger that has been sealed. Paramount and Skydance have just agreed to terms that will see both...

In Simon Pegg’s immortal comedy series Spaced, his character Tim declares: “Every odd-numbered Star Trek movie is shit.” This is, of course, hilarious today, because Pegg was in two odd-numbered Trek films, and even co-wrote the 13th movie, 2016’s Star Trek Beyond. But, the fandom myth of the odd-numbered Star Trek “curse” almost certainly begins with 1984’s Star Trek III: The Search for Spock. Released in movie theaters on June 1, 1984, the third Star Trek feature film was really the second part of what would become a trilogy of films, concluding with The Voyage Home in 1986. But, more than that, The Search for Spock was a pivotal moment in which the more mature aesthetic of Star Trek truly came into its own. Despite the unkind things said about The Search for Spock over the years, the truth is, the movie is perhaps more representative of the franchise as a whole...

2007 saw Michael Bay helming the first of many Transformers features for the big screen, which led to Hasbro prioritizing their big-screen releases over animations. However, Bay’s big-budget blockbuster wasn’t the lone Transformers release of the year, as it also saw the debut of one of the most beloved Transformers animated shows, Transformers: Animated.
But despite its critical success, Cartoon Network eventually pulled off the plugs from the show after three seasons, and it had to do with the success of shows like The Clone Wars and Alien Force.

Brad Pitt has become an icon of the film industry; his acting career spans 37 years and he is still giving tough competition to the young stars, in terms of fame and popularity. After his blockbuster stint with Marvel, Chris Hemsworth has set his sights on another big franchise. The Thor actor has lent his voice to the now-famous character of Optimus Prime from the Transformers film series in an animated film that is due to hit screens in September 2024. In addition, the actor will also reportedly be involved in a crossover Transformers/G.I. Joe film that is currently untitled.

But his association with the franchise could be a hit or miss commercially judging by the poor box office records of the last film Transformers: Rise of the Beasts which earned the dubious distinction of being the lowest grossing film of the series. It now remains to be seen if Hemsworth’s star power can change this fate.

Netflix has included another animated series in its catalog and this time, and this time it’s the rebirth of an extremely nostalgic franchise, Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft. Lara Croft has been an insanely popular character and she deserves all kinds of adaptations.
However, the recent animated series teased by Netflix has received some criticism due to its Japanese-inspired art style. While it looks good and has good action scenes, you can’t help but shake off the feeling that it is trying to imitate anime.

Director cum producer Michael Bay has proven his star-studded worth in the entertainment industry one too many times, especially through the masterpieces he helmed for the multi-billionaire Transformers franchise. That said, the 59-year-old artist seemingly had no intention for his robotic saga to get a crossover with Dwayne Johnson’s $712 million worth G.I. Joe franchise.

Although it may seem surprising, this was Bay’s original decision regarding his franchise when this idea was proposed to him by Brian Robbins, the current CEO of Paramount, and was rightly so for a very understandable reason. However, Robbins seems to have eventually come out victorious over him, considering how a crossover movie between these two sagas is currently in the works.

While the 2009 sequel to the original Transformers failed on many fronts and committed the cardinal sequel sin of rehashing the ideas of the first movie, it still delivered with its visuals. Despite being 15 years old, Michael Bay’s Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen still puts many modern blockbusters to shame following its impressive visuals and on-location action sequences.

Wahlberg got his start as a rapper, as the frontman for the group Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch, but it was his good looks rather than musical ability that brought him notoriety as the premier Calvin Klein underwear model in the 1990s. Since then Wahlberg has been working steadily with such A-list directors as Martin Scorsese, Peter Jackson (“The Lovely Bones”), Tim Burton (“Planet of the Apes”), Ridley Scott (“All the Money in the World”) and David O. Russell.

Last year, a bidding war was going down between Netflix and Amazon for a lucrative package deal. The two streaming giants were in a fight to acquire the film rights to the novella by Don Winslow called Crime 101.
