Remember White Chicks? The 2004 film centers around two brothers going undercover in the Hamptons as two…well, white chicks. The comedy was trashed by critics, citing offensive humor, hideous undercover disguises as white girls, and horrible social commentary as the reason the film fails to be funny. Hulu’s list of new releases for May 2024 is missing a certain amount of original series firepower. In the place of a blockbuster like The Handmaid’s Tale or Shōgun, however, is some content diversity.
The first of the month sees the premiere of four-episode British series Shardlake. This mystery drama takes place during the reign of Henry VIII and features none other than Thomas Cromwell (Sean Bean) investigating a murder. Other series of note this month include the Korean drama Uncle Samsik on May 15.
Movies are bit more interesting on Hulu in May. Teen comedy Prom Dates premieres on May 3. That will be followed by the 2023 Adam Drive film Ferrari on May 24. Before all that though is the real heavy hitter. You can watch Austin Butler’s acclaimed performance as The King in Elvis as early as May 1. The Stephen Sommers directorial was an adaptation of the popular comics of the same name and starred Channing Tatum and Wayans in lead roles. Is it time to play Vanessa Carlton’s “A Thousand Miles” for White Chicks 2? What Marlon and Shawn Wayans have said about the possibility of filming a sequel to the 2004 comedy turned early-aughts classic. Plus, who among their co-stars is eager for a White Chicks 2, and where the future of the Wayans brothers’ comedy stands today.
A ‘White Chicks 2’ sequel isn’t officially in the works
Sorry, White Chicks fans. The story of brothers Marcus (Marlon Wayans) and Kevin Copeland (Shawn Wayans) memorably going undercover as white women to investigate socialites’ kidnappings isn’t continuing. At least, not right now.
Marlon and Shawn, who wrote and starred in the film together along with their brother, Keenen Ivory Wayans as co-writer and director, have both discussed the possibility of a sequel over the years. However, today, one isn’t in development or production at Sony, the movie studio that owns the rights to the original.

Terry Crews will star in the CBS comedy pilot based on the “JumpStart” comic strip, Variety has learned.
The multi-cam pilot was originally ordered at CBS in February. The official logline states that the show “follows Joe (Crews), a cop, his wife Marcy, a nurse, and Joe’s partner Crunchy. Joe and Marcy are young, hip, urban parents with old school values who are willing to sacrifice for their kids and have some laughs while doing it!”
The character Joe is further described as “a devoted husband , son, father and Philadelphia police officer. He is also a proud Black man and often feels pressured to be flawless in each of his roles, especially in light of controversies surrounding cops. He is a charming and exuberant role model in his community. Joe loves his wife and family, but does come up short in hilarious and endearing ways that keep audiences cheering for him.

Paris Hilton and her sister Nicky Hilton were used as inspirations for the movie White Chicks. But when Nicky Hilton confronted the Wayans brothers herself, the two initially denied this was the case.

Shawn and Marlon Wayans were used to co-starring and sometimes even developing their own projects. The pair enjoyed a long run on the hit sitcom simply titled The Wayans Bros. Afterward, the duo turned their attention to movies, and developed two of the Scary Movie films. Disagreements with the studio would eventually see the two Wayans brothers leave the Scary Movie franchise behind. But this allowed them to tackle a brand new movie idea in White Chicks.

It’s the end of the world as we know it and HBO Max feels fine. The Warner Bros. Discovery streamer’s list of new releases for January 2023 is highlighted by one long-awaited post-apocalyptic adventure.
HBO’s TV adaptation of beloved video game The Last of Us premieres on Jan. 15. Created by Chernobyl writer Craig Mazin, this story will follow the game storyline of Joel (Pedro Pascal) guiding 14-year-old Ellie (Bella Ramsey) through a virus-ridden wasteland towards hope. It’s probably gonna be awesome.
The other big original series this month is animated mystery comedy Velma. Brought to life by Mindy Kaling, this show will be all about Scooby-Doo’s bespectacled buddy Velma Dinkley. Jinkies indeed!
There aren’t any major HBO Max original movie releases this January. The first of the month sees the arrival of Ghostbusters (1984), Hereditary, John Wick, and more. Recent theatrical release The Menu premieres on Jan.

Whoopi Goldberg doesn’t have time for critics who think “Blazing Saddles” is racist.
“The View” co-host defended Mel Brooks’ 1974 satirical Western film against modern social media claims that the film is problematic. “Blazing Saddles” stars Cleavon Little as a railroad worker who is hired to as the first Black sheriff of a frontier town about to be demolished to make way for a new railroad. Gene Wilder plays his gunslinging pal, with director Brooks also starring.
“It deals with racism by coming at it right, straight, out front, making you think and laugh about it, because, listen, it’s not just racism, it’s all the -isms, he hits all the -isms,” Goldberg said of Brooks’ film (via Entertainment Weekly). “‘Blazing Saddles,’ because it’s a great comedy, would still go over today.”

Marlon Wayans is airing out his complaints about cancel culture.
In an interview with Buzzfeed, the actor was asked whether his 2004 comedy “White Chicks” would “thrive” in 2022.
“I think they’re needed. I don’t know what planet we’re on, where you think people don’t need laughter, and that people need to be censored and canceled,” Wayans said. “If a joke is gonna get me canceled, thank you for doing me that favor. It’s sad that society is in this place where we can’t laugh anymore.”

Marlon Wayans and the entire Wayans clan have always made films that push the limits of what is considered “decent” to get a laugh. Well before their time on “In Living Color,” Keenan Ivory Wayans was shocking people with the cult classic comedy, “I’m Gonna Git You Sucka.” And of course, years later, Shawn and Marlon Wayans continued to push the boundaries with “White Chicks,” a film that many point to as an example of a hit feature that has not really held up over the years due to its misogynistic and racial humor.

The controversial comedy starred Wayans and his brother Shawn Wayans as two FBI agents who go undercover as white women to stop a kidnapping. Wayans’ brother Keenan Ivory Wayans directed the film.
Looking back on the jokes and white face premise that is now viewed by some as inappropriate, Wayans slammed the concept of cancel culture in comedies.

Could Marlon Wayans get away with making “White Chicks” in 2022? It’s a question that was recently posed to the comedian by Buzzfeed and led him to rail against “cancel culture.”
Wayans stated that movies like “White Chicks” are needed more than ever despite the risk of being canceled. The 2004 comedy starred Marlon and Shawn Wayans as FBI agents who go undercover as white women to solve a kidnapping plot.
“They’re needed,” Wayans said. “I don’t know what planet we’re on, where you think people don’t need laughter, and that people need to be censored and canceled. We’re one week away from Halloween, which means we’re diving into some of the scariest movies ever made. Hence, White Chicks–you know, the movie where Marlon Wayans and Shawn Wayans play FBI agents who go undercover as, well, white chicks. And yes, the makeup was a horrifying sight to behold.
In a recent interview with BuzzFeed, Marlon Wayans was asked if a movie like White Chicks would be received well in 2022–not by critics (it holds a 15 on Rotten Tomatoes), but in the climate of political correctness. Wayans took the chance to lay into cancel culture, saying movies like White Chicks “are needed” more than ever.
“I don’t know what planet we’re on, where you think people don’t need laughter, and that people need to be censored and canceled,” said Wayans. “If a joke is gonna get me canceled, thank you for doing me that favor.

The upcoming Walking Dead spin-off Tales of the Walking Dead is an anthology series, which means that each of the first season’s six episodes will center on different characters that may or may not make appearances in other episodes throughout the season. Because each episode is primarily a self-contained story, actors who may not have the time to commit to a full season arc are able to join this universe. This means that Tales of the Walking Dead has a stacked cast with many familiar faces – some are newcomers to the franchise and others are Walking Dead alums.

Marlon Wayans is moving his semi-autobiographical comedy series “Book of Marlon” to Starz.
The premium cabler has put the show into development after it was previously set up at HBO Max. It was originally set up at HBO Max in 2020 as part of an overall deal Wayans had signed there.
In the half-hour show, Wayans would play a fictionalized version of himself, exploring his professional life as a comedian and actor, as well as his personal life as he attempts to reconcile being a good person and loving father with being Marlon. Wayans will star in the series in addition to co-writing and executive producing. As with the original HBO Max iteration, Rick Alvarez will also co-writer and executive produce. Now, though, Diallo Riddle and Bashir Salahuddin have come onboard to co-write and serve as co-showrunners and executive producers. Enter White Chicks, a 2004 film that centers around the two brothers going undercover in the Hamptons as two…well, white chicks. And when I say white chicks, I mean the ugliest white chicks you’ll ever see on screen. The comedy was thrashed by critics, citing offensive humor, hideous undercover disguises as white girls, and horrible social commentary as the reason the film fails to be funny. Currently, the

Jaime King, Antonio Banderas and Tommy Flanagan have joined the cast of “Banshee,” an action film from director Jon Keeyes.
The film follows a freelance assassin, codenamed Banshee (King), who is ambushed by Anthony Greene (Flanagan), a powerful mercenary who killed her father, and who is now seeking to collect a bounty on Caleb (Banderas), her former black ops mentor. “Banshee” is produced by Jordan Yale Levine and Jordan Beckerman of Yale Productions, alongside Keeyes of Highland Myst, from a script by Matthew Rogers, who wrote the trio’s previous movie,...

“America’s Got Talent” always has some incredible performances on-screen, but sometimes, greatness happens during commercial breaks, too. That was the case this week, when host Terry Crews gave the audience a performance of “A Thousand Miles” in between act setups.
Luckily, someone was on hand with their phone, and captured the moment. Crews posted the video on TikTok, with the caption “Always ready for this song! The perfect @agt audience hype song!”
