Exclusive: Thomas Lennon (Reno 911!), Chelsea Frei (The Moodys), and Larry Joe Campbell (The Orville) have been set for guest star roles in the forthcoming second season of Fox’s popular workplace comedy Animal Control, starring Joel McHale.
Others set to appear in S2 guest roles, as previously announced, include Ken Jeong, Sarah Chalke, and Krystal Smith.
Premiering last February, the show created by Bob Fisher, Rob Greenberg and Dan Sterling follows a group of local Animal Control workers whose lives are complicated by the fact that animals are simple, but humans are not. McHale plays Frank, an opinionated, eccentric Animal Control officer who may not have gone to college but is still the most well-read person in the room. A former cop, Frank tried to expose corruption in his department, but his efforts got him fired, which may explain why he’s so cynical and curmudgeonly. He has an almost superhuman ability to understand animals.

With all due respect to “The Good Fight,” the new Paramount+ Super Bowl spot starring Patrick Stewart may be the finest thing Paramount+ has ever done.
The one-minute, 58-second “Hail Patrick” ad, from creative agency Droga5, is the 15th commercial in the “A Mountain of Entertainment” series. Paramount+ first introduced “Paramount Mountain” three years ago at Super Bowl Lv; Stewart was waiting for his colleagues at the summit back then.
Those ads were…not great — but “Hail Patrick” undoubtedly is. In it, Stewart is in the trenches at base camp but still the group’s leader, which tees up a double meaning to the commercial’s title.
We open on Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa attempting to toss a grappling hook to the top of Paramount Mountain. It falls a bit short. This is, after all, a mountain of entertainment; it is no easy task.

The recent ad campaign for Paramount+ has been a mite surreal. In them, a group of fictional characters, each from various Paramount-owned properties, find themselves lost on Paramount Mountain -- a desolate and snowy place -- wondering how they might escape. The ads are fun, as there are few places where one might see Peppa Pig and Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen interacting with Beavis and Butt-Head. Several of the spots were narrated by Patrick Stewart and, throughout the campaign, featured cameos from "Survivor" host Jeff Probst, Captain Pike from "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" as played by Anson Mount, Dora the Explorer, James Corden, Bumblebee the Transformer, Snooki, DJ Khaled, Diane Lockhart from "The Good Fight" as played by Christine Baranski, Lieutenant Jim Dangle from "Reno 911!" as played by Thomas Lennon, and many, many others. In one of the more recent ads, Sylvester Stallone appears as his...

What can one do when stuck on the metaphorical Paramount Mountain other than sing with Creed?
On Wednesday, Paramount Plus shared their fever-dreamish Super Bowl commercial starring Drew Barrymore, Patrick Stewart, Miami Dolphins’ Tua Tagovailoa, Peppa Pig, and Arnold from Hey Arnold as they figure out how to get over a snowy mountaintop.
“If it were a football, I’d be able to reach the top,” Taogvailoa says after throwing an anchor.
“What about a football-shaped head?” suggests Stewart, looking at Arnold from Hey Arnold. “We throw the child.”

“I accept this award on behalf of every black and brown woman who has gone unheard yet overpoliced, like Glenda Cleveland, like Sandra Bland, like Breonna Taylor,” said Niecy Nash-Betts in a passionate acceptance speech at tonight’s Emmy Awards.
Nash-Betts won Best Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or TV Movie for her role, noted above, of Glenda Cleveland in Netflix’ Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, who got the brush-off from police when she tried to alert them to the horror down the hall.

Matthew Perry Remembered by ‘Odd Couple’ Co-Star Thomas Lennon: He ‘Was Always Trying to Get Better’
“Reno 911!” star Thomas Lennon worked closely with Matthew Perry on the CBS remake of “The Odd Couple,” which aired for three seasons and 38 episodes from 2015 and 2017. Perry developed and executive produced the show (with Danny Jacobson and Joe Keenan) and starred as Oscar Madison, opposite Lennon as Felix Unger. Lindsay Sloane, Yvette Nicole Brown and Wendell Pierce also starred in the series, based of course on the Neil Simon play (later made famous as a TV sitcom in the 1970s). It was a reunion for Lennon and Perry, who also worked together on the 2009 film “17 Again.” In that comedy, Perry and Lennon play best friends. Variety asked Lennon to offer his memories of working with Perry over the years; below, he shares this tribute.

Over the past three decades, sketch comedy group The State has created an MTV series, a comedy album, a book, and a CBS special in addition to several spinoff projects like Reno 911!, Viva Variety, Stella, Wet Hot American Summer, Risk!, and Children’s Hospital. But the logistics of bringing the large troupe back together for a tour were always too daunting to even consider until just a few months ago when the SAG strike cleared off their calendars for the foreseeable future.

A version of this story about “Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” first appeared in the Down to the Wire: Drama and Limited Series issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.
There’s a somber reason Niecy Nash-Betts is happy about her fourth Primetime Emmy nomination. “I feel like it brings more attention to Glenda Cleveland and her story (that was) going unheard, overlooked and underserved,” Nash-Betts said of her character in “Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story,” the first season of a planned Netflix anthology series, “Monster,” from Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan.
Though “Dahmer” is ostensibly focused on serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, it
seeks to give a face, voice and story to his victims. One of the indirect victims was
Cleveland, Dahmer’s neighbor, who repeatedly called the police after suspecting that the Milwaukee killer was harming people in his apartment. Despite her pleas, Cleveland was ignored by police.

America's sweetheart Danny DeVito has been a staple of the boundary-pushing comedy series "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" for years now, but the 78-year-old was actually the last main cast member to join the gang. DeVito didn't join the series until season two, but has been in nearly every episode since. The "Taxi" alum plays the father of Dennis and Dee Reynolds, although that title is up for debate. The series is a huge hit now, but the first few seasons didn't get a lot of attention, and the rest of the cast was totally unknown at the time. So how did a huge star like DeVito get roped into a gritty underdog show like "Sunny?" The truth is that the comedian was a huge fan of the sitcom from the get-go, but he still had one condition before signing on.
DeVito was first introduced to the cast of "Sunny" through Emmy-nominated producer John Landgraf.

As Reno 911! reaches its 20th anniversary, the cops of the (fortunately fictional) Reno Sheriff’s Department are as inept and ineffectual as ever. Reno 911! premiered on Comedy Central on July 23, 2003, with co-creators Thomas Lennon, Kerri Kenney-Silver, and Robert Ben Garant playing cops alongside Niecy Nash, Wendi McLendon-Covey, and other comedic talents. The mockumentary series aired six seasons on Comedy Central, wrapping up its linear run in 2009. But then it got a revival on Quibi in 2020 and squeezed in a seventh season before that short-form streaming platform shut down. After Quibi’s demise, the eighth season landed on The Roku Channel. Along the way, there’s also been a Reno 911! theatrical release, a Paramount+ movie, and a Comedy Central movie. Kenney-Silver isn’t ruling out future installments, either. “It’s like coming home, I think, for all of us,” she told ScreenRant in December. “It’s like coming home,...

It’s a good thing that the Television Academy never scrapped the Television Movie Emmy category because original streaming movies stepped up in a major way this morning in the Primetime noms.
Streaming movies notched four of the five Outstanding Movie Primetime Emmy nomination slots including Disney+’s most watched movie ever Hocus Pocus 2, Disney’s Hulu movies Prey and Fire Island, as well as Roku’s Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. In recent years, there’s been chatter that the Television Academy was pondering a nix of the movie category, but they’ve held on to it, and obviously streamers are delivering product to it.
Even more amazing, streaming movies grabbed three out of the six writing noms in the limited-anthology series/movie slot: Prey, Fire Island (Joel Kim Booster) and Weird: Al the Yankovic Story (Weird Al and Eric Appel).

Chicago – What does an actor do after a successful run of a TV series? If you are Wendi McLendon-Covey, late of “The Goldbergs,” it’s an animation voiceover gig for Pixar Animation and Walt Disney Studios latest release, “Elemental.” McLendon-Covey is the voice of Gale Cumulus, a city official in a wondrous mix of elements.
In a city where fire, water, earth, and air residents live together, a fiery young woman named Ember (voice of Leah Lewis) and a go-with-the-flow watery guy named Wade (Mamoudou Athie) meet cute as the shop of Ember’s father Bernie (Ronnie del Carmen). Wade is a city inspector, scrutinizing Bernie’s establishment, and he kicks the paperwork upstairs to his boss Gale Cumulus (Wendi McLendon-Covey). The potential fire and water couple are about to discover something elemental … how much they actually have in common.

Roughly 20 years after breaking out on Comedy Central’s Reno 911! and ABC’s soapy drama Desperate Housewives, respectively, Niecy Nash-Betts and Eva Longoria are deep into second acts that, for them, were inevitable.
For Nash-Betts, it’s been a slow burn to be seen as a dramatic actor because, as she says of her God-given talent, “The Most High put being funny in my DNA.” But the biz has caught up: The three-time Emmy nominee for acting is a leading contender this year for playing Glenda Cleveland in Netflix’s Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, a role for which she’s already won a 2023 Critics Choice Award. Nash-Betts also recently wrapped her first season as the lead and executive producer of ABC’s The Rookie: Feds.

The holidays are sizzlin’ in “Reno 911!: It’s a Wonderful Heist,” a Christmas-themed sequel to the Emmy-nominated “The Hunt for QAnon.” Can the Reno Sheriff’s Department score another bid for Best TV Movie?

The Office is a revolutionary comedy that created a new model for how modern sitcoms could be done. Its mockumentary format had been done before, but it was perfected here, and many shows after tried to put their spin on its style. While many have failed to capture what made The Office great, a few mockumentary comedies have paved their own path without seeming like a knockoff.
John Krasinski as Jim Halpert, Rainn Wilson as Dwight Schrute, Steve Carell as Michael Scott | Trae Patton/NBC/NBCU Photo Bank Here are 5 comedy shows to watch if you love mockumentaries like ‘The Office’ Reno 911!
Reno 911! premiered before The Office, but it is a different type of mockumentary comedy. The show is a parody of cop documentary TV shows, specifically Cops, and follows the Reno sheriff’s department members in Nevada. It’s much cruder than The Office and contains profane and often politically incorrect humor.
