While Renny Harlin was promoting his film, The Bricklayer, JoBlo asked him about the making of Die Hard 2: Die Harder, and he had high praise for star Bruce Willis, who he compared, favourably, to the new generation of action stars, who seem reluctant to ever allow themselves to get beaten up on-screen, Willis never had this issue, said Harlin: “I really wanted Bruce Willis to get really screwed up. His face is a bloody mess by the end of the movie, and like you said, it really does make the character more heroic. They are really taking punishment and keep going.”
However, as we reported a little while back, there was one line Willis didn’t love in Die Hard 2: Just the fax, ma’am…

Teni doesn’t want to be put in a box. The Nigerian songwriter and artist spoke to Rolling Stone for the On Your Radar video series to discuss how she approaches songwriting and her career.
“For me, my best music comes when I’m being myself, I’m free and not thinking too much,” she explained. “Maybe later I can go back and clean it up, but I make my best music when I’m unconscious, not conscious. That’s when my best melodies truly come.”

In late January, Teni, the Nigerian Afrobeats star, told me the meaning of “Bourdillon,” a standout track I had received on a draft of her latest album, Tears of the Sun. “Bourdillon is a wealthy place in Ikoyi, where wealthy people stay,” she said of the Lagos neighborhood. We were dining at a local Caribbean restaurant in another relatively wealthy neighborhood: Midtown Atlanta. “So, I’m just saying on this song that from the strip club to Bourdillon — from Bourdillon to the strip club,” she explained.

Bruce Willis burst onto the American entertainment scene as the glib, smart-alecky detective David Addison Jr. opposite Cybill Shepherd’s Maddie Haynes in ABC’s Moonlighting, a show that helped launch the dramedy genre. Willis was not long for the small screen, though, with his his sharp tongue and sarcastic wit destined for bigger things.
More than 90 films and $5.3 billion later, Willis has played a smart-aleck New York detective in the Die Hard series, a smart-aleck oil driller-turned-astronaut in Armageddon, a smart-aleck cop in The Last Boy Scout, a smart-aleck gangster in Last Man Standing, a smart-aleck soldier in Tears of the Sun … well, you get the picture.
When he wasn’t cracking wise, Willis played many other memorable roles in films that included The Bonfire of the Vanities (1990), Billy Bathgate (1991), Color of Night (1994), 12 Monkeys (1995), The Fifth Element (1997), The Sixth Sense (1999) The Story of Us (1999), Looper (2012) and Motherless Brooklyn...

Director Antoine Fuqua still remembers his first day on set with his now-five-time star Denzel Washington. It was early 2001, one of the first days of production on “Training Day,” which would eventually garner Washington his second Oscar (and co-star Ethan Hawke his first Oscar nomination). Fuqua was eager to show Washington and Hawke some of the day’s footage, but Washington demurred. As Fuqua recalls, Washington assured the director, making only his third film, that he was the one “flying this plane.”
It’s an experience Fuqua hasn’t forgotten — that moment of a master like Washington assuring the filmmaker that he trusted him and was down to honor his vision — and one that has guided the pair through five films, including the three-film franchise “The Equalizer.” The duo wrap the series with this week’s “The Equalizer 3,” which sees Washington’s vigilante Robert McCall taking his particular set...

Antoine Fuqua is being sued by a former collaborator concerning a lack of compensation or credit for his alleged work as a consultant on “The Equalizer 3.” A complaint, which TheWrap has obtained, was filed in the Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday and seeks no less than $250,000 in damages.
Paul Lozada says he provided the production with a “treasure trove” of information that boosted the authenticity of the Denzel Washington-starring action franchise. That includes information about European organized crime, weapons and fight choreography. Lozada alleges that Fuqua promised him a position on the third installment. The plaintiff, a former San Francisco police officer, was previously listed as a consultant or advisor on “Tears of the Sun,” “Training Day” and “The Equalizer.”
The complaint alleges that Fuqua reached out to Lozada in May 2022 in relation to a possible television project before pivoting to a conversation about “The Equalizer 3.” Specifically,...

Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone has swiftly emerged as one of the television industry’s most triumphant franchises. While Kevin Costner’s portrayal of John Dutton has undoubtedly been instrumental in shaping the Western drama, the series thrives due to its exceptional ensemble cast.
When casting for Yellowstone, Sheridan had little doubt that Costner was the ideal choice to portray the patriarch of the Dutton family. However, Costner was not the sole Yellowstone star Sheridan recognized as essential to the show’s success.

Mafia Mamma is a film directed by Catherine Hardwicke starring the “almost” always great Toni Collette and Monica Bellucci, and this time, as great and wonderful as they are, they don’t manage to save a comedy with jokes that don’t end up being funny.
Bad start for a comedy, don’t you think?
Mafia Mamma Movie Review
Mafia Mamma is a parody crime thriller that without wanting to go anywhere and aware of this circumstance, limits itself to overflow with clichés (it was obvious), to drop more or less funny jokes and that relies on the two stars’ performances (especially Toni Collette’s) to save the movie from sinking.
And no matter how great he or she could be, no actor can save a bad script nor, dare we say, a bad editing at the level of rhythm. Thus, Mafia Mamma is sometimes placed in almost separate scenes without a common nexus that,...

February is the shortest month of the year but Prime Video is paying that no mind with its jam-packed list of new releases for February 2023.
This really is an uncommonly stuffed month on the Amazon streamer and it all starts with a handful of Amazon Originals. Amazon’s original offerings kick off with the release of Dave Franco-directed romcom Somebody I Used to Know on Feb. 10. That is followed by Carnival Row season 2 – a gritty fantasy crime drama is set in a world of steampunky fairies. The show stars Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevigne and this batch of episodes will be its swan song. Meanwhile The Consultant on Feb. 24 is a dark comedy workplace thriller starring Christoph Waltz.
The biggest hits this month, however, might just be some recent cinema faves. If February is for lovers, Amazon didn’t get the memo as there are quite a few horror movies of note here.

Editors Note: In the wake of Harvey Weinstein’s Los Angeles trial for rape, another woman has stepped forward alleging the media mogul sexually assaulted her 22 years ago.
A ballerina and a model, Lisa Pekar moved to Los Angeles from Milwaukee in September 2000 to pursue her Hollywood dreams as a writer and possibly an actress.
Pekar wrote a piece about her experience and also was interviewed for TheWrap by Kelly Hartog. Pekar’s allegations were corroborated by a witness who spoke to TheWrap on condition of anonymity. Asked to respond to these allegations, a spokesperson for Weinstein said: “Harvey… believes that this sequence of events did not happen as suggested here and that the accusation just isn’t true. The fact is that this narrative is so similar to others, it is therefore easy enough to suggest to some that it is a valid recollection, yet it is also possibly being repurposed for other reasons.

In a raw new trailer for Antoine Fuqua’s “Emancipation,” Will Smith’s Peter endures the horrors of slavery and eventually escapes, makes a run for freedom and enlists in the Union army.
Per the film’s official logline: “‘Emancipation’ tells the triumphant story of Peter (Will Smith), a man who escapes from slavery, relying on his wits, unwavering faith and deep love for his family to evade cold-blooded hunters and the unforgiving swamps of Louisiana on his quest for freedom. The film is inspired by the 1863 photos of ‘Whipped Peter,’ taken during a Union Army medical examination, that first appeared in Harper’s Weekly.”
The “Emancipation” trailer concludes with images of Peter’s whipped back, specifically a reenactment of an image known as “The Scourged Back,” which was published in 1863 and was instrumental in raising awareness to and public opposition of the immorality of the slave trade.

Neighbours launched him, and since then the star of Memento and Zone 414 has seized his Hollywood roles with a unique intensity. He talks about death, drugs, being a dad and divorce
At the start of this century, Guy Pearce was sitting pretty. He had shaken off the frothy soap bubbles of Neighbours, where he was one of the show’s original batch of pin-ups, along with Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan, and was proving himself a versatile film actor – first as a sharp-clawed drag artist in The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, then as a clench-jawed cop in LA Confidential.
Awaiting release was the existential thriller Memento, directed by a promising up-and-comer named Christopher Nolan. First, though, he heard whispers that Kenneth Turan, the film critic of the LA Times, had been singing his praises in a review of the military courtroom drama Rules of Engagement.

On a Labor Day weekend when “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” exploded to a record $90 million initial four- day gross, Disney also expanded Premium VOD platforms for its $100 million-plus box office “Jungle Cruise” ($29.99). As with other PVOD titles, it’s making a strong debut on multiple charts after an initial Disney+ home exclusive.
“Jungle Cruise” leads at Vudu, which favors higher-priced titles with its revenue tally. Among transactional charts, iTunes has it as #3, with GooglePlay placing it at #5. “The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard” (Lionsgate/$5.99) repeats at #1 at both iTunes and Google, and at #5 is the highest non-pvod films at Vudu. All of this reinforces that Disney can maximize returns from multiple outlets even as films still do well in theaters.
“Don’t Breathe 2” (Sony/$19.99), a surprise PVOD release after three weeks in theaters, is #2 at Vudu, #3 at iTunes, and #5 at GooglePlay. The film fell a modest 18 percent in...

September usually means the beginning of the traditional fall TV season. As such, Hulu’s list of new releases for September 2021 contains some impressive TV swings.
For starters, all of ABC and Fox’s (both now united under the Disney banner alongside Hulu) fall season offerings will be made available to stream on Hulu the next day. More impressively, however, two FX on Hulu originals make their way to the streaming world this month.
The first is the long-awaited adaptation of the classic comic Y: The Last Man. The story of a virus that destroys every mammal with a Y-chromosome (save for one escape artist and his monkey) is set to premiere on September 13. Shortly after that, the B.J. Novak-produced anthology series The Premise arrives on September 16. Even those who are fatigued from timely anthology concepts will want to check this one out.

Don’t know if you’ve heard but Netflix is doing pretty well with their local language releases. Now, with its list of new releases for September 2021, Netflix is leading with one of its biggest international hits.
Season 5 of the worldwide smash Money Heist is set to premiere its first half on Sept. 3. This Spanish series (called La Casa de Papel in its native tongue) about a group of geographically-named thieves found new life on Netflix to become a global phenomenon. Other international series of note this month include Sex Education and Jaguar.
Netflix’s roster of originals in September 2021 is pretty packed even beyond that. The final season of Lucifer premieres on Sept. 10. That will be followed by He-Man and the Masters of the Universe on Sept. 16 (not to be confused with Masters of the Universe: Revelation) and Mike Flanagan’s next horror series, Midnight Mass, on Sept. 24.

“There was once a dream that was Rome. You could only whisper it, anything more than a whisper and it would vanish.” These were the words spoken by Richard Harris at his most regal in Gladiator, adding some blockbuster poeticism to the democratic ideals of the Roman republic—a dream lost long before Gladiator begins. But he could just as easily be speaking about the beauty and grandeur of the historical epics which inspired Gladiator .
Decades before Russell Crowe and Ridley Scott reawakened that whisper to a mighty roar, historical war epics, from swords and sandals beefcake cinema to Napoleonic and Revolutionary melodramas, were the order of the day in Hollywood. Kirk Douglas’ Spartacus and Charlton Heston’s Ben-Hur were the superheroes of the early ‘60s, before the genre’s popularity receded to camp TV miniseries ignominy. Welcome to The B-Side, from The Film Stage. Here we talk about movie stars and filmmakers and not the movies that made them famous or kept them famous, but the ones they made in between.
Today we dive into the highest-grossing actor in the history of cinema: Samuel L. Jackson. The man of many franchises, he’s one bad mother––Shut Your Mouth!
Our B-Sides include Sphere, The Red Violin, Rules of Engagement, and Formula 51 (a.k.a. The 51st State a.k.a. woof). We talk about what the “L” in Samuel L. Jackson stands for, we marvel at the legend’s insane activist past, and his late-breaking career.
There’s also a deep dive into the historical origins of The Red Violin (inspired by a violin currently played by the great Elizabeth Pitcairn), the downfall of Sphere’s plot, and the troubled politics of Rules of Engagement.

June 2020 is set to be a big month for the whole streaming Disney family. Not only will ESPN+ have the entirety of The Last Dance on its servers for late-adopting sports fans to catch up with, but Disney+ will be premiering its long-awaited Artemis Fowl film. Over on its biggest streaming service in Hulu, however, Disney is taking things a bit more slowly.
This month finds only three major original releases for Hulu. Animated medieval comedy Crossing Swords premieres on June 12, then Ya love story Love Victor and cooking show Taste the Nation with Padma Lakshmi both arrive on June 19. All in all, that’s not a bad haul for originals for the typically slow summer months.
June 1 sees a pretty impressive crop of movies coming to Hulu’s library as well. October Sky, The X-Files (1998), and Casino will all be ready to stream at the beginning of the month.

After seeing The Hunt, you’ll understand how asinine pre-release protesters now sound. No political identification is safely coddled. Outrageous rhetoric isn’t intended to be taken as propaganda. All citizens and officials from coast-to-coast, border-to-border, get sucker-socked at least a baker’s dozen times. It’s comical how Blumhouse’s aggressively marketed American satire turns out to be just that: punchline exploitation mockery. A gruesome battle royale that makes Ready Or Not‘s classist warfare seem subtle in comparison, pitch-black and thematically barbed in rabidly hilarious ways.
Across internet chatrooms and forums, conspiracy theorists spin yarns about an elitist hunting club dubbed “Manorgate.” Commenters accuse leftist snobs of abducting red-blooded simpletons and killing them for sport. Turns out, somehow, podcasters and vloggers got this one right when “Manorgate” becomes reality for a selection of unlucky contestants. “Rednecks” from Orlando to the Midwest regain consciousness in a field next to an armory of weapons,...

The holidays might be over, but Netflix has a quick fix for the back-to-work blues. Sing along to your favorite Beatles songs in “Across the Universe” or laugh along with the Joker as he tries to thwart Batman in “The Dark Knight” when both arrive to the streaming platform next month.
A couple classics are set to arrive as well — meet a bloodthirsty bunny and a not-dead prince in “Monty Python and the Holy Grail,” and revisit the strange events of “Pulp Fiction.” Among the list of Netflix originals coming is stand-up smorgasbord “Comedians of the World,” featuring Nicole Byer, Chris D’Elia, and Neal Brennan, along with the second season of “Friends From College” and the third season of “A Series of Unfortunate Events” starring Neil Patrick Harris as Count Olaf. “The Incredibles 2” will wrap up the month of releases, dropping Jan. 30.

As Netflix heads into its first legitimate Oscar season, the streaming giant is hoping to pull out nominations and wins for “Roma,” “The Ballad of Buster Scruggs,” and “Girl.” Lest Netflix lose sight of its one true purpose, the platform will be streaming the entire “Indiana Jones” franchise beginning in January. The streamer announced today its full list of titles for the new year, and it’s the expected mix of cult hit indies and little-known original films.
Quentin Tarantino fans can rejoice in January: “Pulp Fiction” heads to Netflix in the beginning of the month, and the classic continues to be endlessly re-watchable. Guillermo del Toro fans can also peruse “Pan’s Labyrinth,” and relive a simpler time before the Mexican filmmaker’s polarizing “The Shape of Water” Oscar win. David Mackenzie and Taylor Sheridan’s 2016 crime drama “Hell or High Water” also becomes available on the same day.

Kate Hudson is setting the record straight once and for all on those Brad Pitt rumors.
The actress stopped by Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live to talk about her new lifestyle book, Pretty Fun, when the host asked her about tabloids linking her to the newly single movie star in early 2017.
“That was the craziest rumor of all time,” Hudson said on Tuesday’s show. “There’s nothing true to that. As a matter of fact. I hadn’t actually seen him in, like, four years. It was kind of an awesome rumor. I kind of liked it.
