The handcuff can be seen not closed around the water pipe.
The scene where the tire re-inflates itself shows a wheel of the "classic" series for the BMW 7, yet the car was equipped with "sports" wheels.
Gupta tape-records Paris and Bond talking. Later on, he plays back a completely different recording of the same event.
When in the plane, Bond's oxygen mask is clearly seen clipped to his helmet in frontal camera shots, but is missing on side profile camera shots.
As the ship in the beginning went to General Quarters everyone left the galley. Ninety seconds later when the ship was hit the same sailors were back in the galley eating.
When Bond makes a HALO (High Altitude, Low Open) parachute jump, the Jumpmaster warns him that he needs to be on oxygen because he will be falling for five miles and will suffocate without it. So the aircraft is at well over 24,600 feet in altitude, with its main cargo door wide open. Everyone in the cargo bay would have needed to be wearing an oxygen mask for the entire sequence, not just Bond when he finally jumps.
Helicopters are physically incapable of hovering in place with their rotors tilted forward, as indicated during the motorcycle chase. Also, we see the rotor hitting objects when in this position. Helicopter rotors are fragile. With those impacts, the rotors would fail and the helicopter would crash.
The satellite in Carver's building is much too small to do anything useful, and would certainly not be on a stand that could so easily be pushed over (especially as it is stated to be worth $300m). Also, satellites are assembled in cleanroom conditions, at least Class 100,000 (ISO 8) which also requires cleanroom clothing.
It would be physically impossible for the torpedo drill, launched in the first scene, to maintain sufficient forward momentum to overcome the lateral movement of the drill that would be caused by the friction of the cutting discs on the hull of the ship.
Chinese computer keyboards do not actually have Chinese characters on the keys. China uses QWERTY keyboards just like the West. Words are typed in Pinyin (Romanized Chinese) and word processors produce characters on-screen. In reality, there's no reason Bond couldn't send his message.
When Bond and Wai Lin have been captured, and they are flying towards the Carver building, Bond sarcastically says that Carver has an "Edifice complex", meaning he has an obsession with imposing buildings. This is a pun on "Oedipus complex", which involves a man being secretly in love with his mother. It's a gag.
The movie is set in 1997, yet Ho Chi Minh City is referred to as Saigon, a name not officially used since the Vietnam War ended in April 1975. However, people still call it that for tradition.
In the opening sequence, after firing the missile, the ship reports back that they have lost contact with the missile because it is out of range and thus it cannot be destroyed. Moments later, back at HQ, M & Co are seen watching the missile's on-board camera as it flies through the mountains towards its target. Even though the missile can relay images back to base, the transmitter may not be able to reach it anymore or it may be programmed to stop listening after a certain point, so this may be believable.
Bond has trouble operating a Chinese computer keyboard, although he has studied Oriental languages at CAMBRIDGE (see You Only Live Twice (1967)). Typing is a separate skill in addition to knowing the language, so Bond may not have this specific ability.
When Carver's guards initially try to break into Bond's car, they can not even dent the vehicle; however, during the chase scene immediately after, the windows on the car shatter when the guards shoot at the vehicle. Apparently the car had a "straw to break the camel's back" point, and that was it. (Or: when Bond turned off the security system in order to enter the car, it lost this protection.) Or the sledgehammer heads spread the force more than do the bullets.
The interior set of the stealth boat is much larger than the actual stealth boat.
When the helicopter is about ready to crash into the building at the end of the motorcycle chase, crash dummies can clearly be seen as the only helicopter passengers.
In the opening sequence, Bond "hijacks" a military jet in an attempt to escape with the on-board nuclear bombs. As he taxis and the plane turns, the exhaust thrust overturns a truck, but doesn't even move any of the boxes or crates on the ground by it.
When Bond jumps from the C-160 for the HALO jump, the scene starts with the rear hatch opening and Bond preparing to jump. The jumpmaster is briefing Bond about using his oxygen as he freefalls for 5 miles to prevent asphyxiation, yet with the hatch open at 5 miles above ground the plane is over 26000 feet in the air and over the cloud mass (as seen in a quick background edit), everyone in the back of the plane would have asphyxiated already without oxygen masks (which no one is wearing).
Assuming it works the way that Q describes it, the method that Bond steers the car with the cell phone never quite seems to match up with the direction the car actually moves in. There are even a couple of scenes where it appears Bond is not even paying attention to the car or the cell phone, and it steers perfectly.
The gap between "One minute to impact" and "30 seconds to impact" lasts for 53 seconds.
In the shootout in the printing press in Hamburg, when Bond leaps from the higher platform to the one underneath, you can see his PPK misfire a shot as he is falling.
During the motorcycle chase where Bond and Wai Lin take the high route to escape their pursuers the bullets appear to be making sparks on the wooden structure (which they wouldn't do even when hitting a metallic surface). The bullet hits also follow a strangely horizontal line across the structure. With the implied rate of fire and considering the goons' firing position below the bike the bullets should stop hitting the structure after a few hits, even with low recoil.
After the chase, under the shower, Wai Lin in t-shirt could not have already removed her intact shirt before first removing the hand cuff tied to James Bond.
When Bond and Wai Lin are captured by Carver, Carver says, "I'll leave you to Stamper and his toys." The words "and his toys" were dubbed in, and Carver's mouth never moves along with them.
English subtitles on the majority of releases claim Wai Lin (speaking Cantonese) is saying, "Bring the boat. What are you waiting for?" when, in fact, she is saying, "Over here. Hey, come over here."
On the stealth boat, Bond is using a silenced Walther P99 yet the sound of it is as if it is unsilenced.
When Carver is talking about launching his missile into Beijing, and his motive, he says, "Oh, nothing - just exclusive broadcasting rights in China for the next hundred years." When he says "hundred years" his mouth says "fifty years", an obvious dub replacement.
When Elliot is talking to Paris about "the key to a great story", his lips are not moving in sync with the dialogue he is speaking.
When Stamper runs across the rooftop next to the Atlantic Hotel to watch Bond climb on the hotel's roof, the mirror-inverted letters "Atlantic Hotel" can be seen on a rooftop in the distance. That rooftop was used to film the ending of the car chase, and the "Atlantic Hotel" sign was placed there for filming, although the movie shows the parking garage attached to the hotel.
"Back-seat driver" in Bond's car can be seen under black cloth when Bond test drives his car.
When Bond tries to escape from the parking garage, you can see that the people in the car constantly cycle between no driver (presumably driven by remote control), one driver, and a driver and a passenger.
During the parking garage chase, from Bond's Point of View, there seems to be black gloves turning the wheel at various points, possibly a stunt driver to give the effect of the self driving car. You'll notice the finger bulges on the edge of the wheel.
In the parking garage chase scene, when he shoots the red car with missiles it is thrown back on top of another car. The cable used to pull the car backwards from the explosion is visible at the bottom of the car while it is in the air.
When HMS Devonshire gives its position as 114 23 818 E, 37
74 624 N, that longitude and latitude is actually 300 miles inland.
When Bond and Wai Lin arrive in Saigon by helicopter, a Thai flag is even visible flying from a building. The streets use Chinese and Thai characters, not the Latin-based Vietnamese characters. The Saigon scenes were actually filmed in Bangkok.
When Bond is on the base in the South China Sea, there are F-15E fighters visible in the background. The fighters carry "LN" tail codes indicating they are at RAF Lakenheath which is nowhere near the South China Sea.
When the Devonshire is challenged by the Chinese early in the film, the whole point is that she is in Chinese territorial waters. When Bond parachutes in to dive to the wreck, the Americans with him are worried because she is in Vietnamese waters. She cannot be in both.
Bond is briefed in M's limousine, while they travel from the Ministry of Defence back to MI6 HQ.
The Ministry of Defence is situated at Somerset House (its real-life counter part is somewhere else), but the car can be seen driving along the Bank of England, exactly in the opposite direction to where MI6 has its base.
There's no reason why a hotel's parking garage door should be armored and be able to withstand missiles. (It's a holdover from an earlier version of the script, where the car battle took place in the villain's headquarters.)
How would the sea drill, with as much maneuverability as a hippopotamus, be able to turn corners and go upwards in the Devonshire when out of water? This seems incredible when it even needs rails when aboard the stealth ship.
Since the sinking of the Titanic, it has been mandatory that British shipping must maintain a visual watch with the use of binoculars. How is it then that the HMS Devonshire does not notice the stealth ship, clearly visible in the moonlight, just a few feet away?
The fleet as seen is missing the Royal Navy's most powerful units, the aircraft carriers, of which at least one would almost certainly have been sent along with any naval buildup. Further, none of the ships present choose to deploy their helicopters for recon or assault on the stealth ship.
After the chase, under the shower, Wai Lin opens the handcuffs with her earring in a fraction of a second. This begs the question why she didn't do so *before* the chase, like immediately after their jump through the window before they even tore down that banner, or after that on their way down to street level through the rest of that office building.
120 is the maximum terminal velocity for skydivers only in the relatively thick lower atmosphere. 200 mph is indeed possible for a HALO jump. The world record is over the speed of sound. This was set by a skydiver who jumped from a balloon at 100,000 feet.
Bond is confused by a PC keyboard with Chinese letters. In You Only Live Twice (1967) Bond stated that he took a First in Oriental Languages at Cambridge and so would have been able to understand the keyboard.
A sea drill would sound much different from a torpedo and travel at a different speed. There should be sonar technicians on board such a frigate who would know the different sounds emitted.
Bond's ex-girlfriend orders him a Vodka martini, shaken not stirred. Shaking versus stirring makes no difference with Vodka martinis. Gin martinis, on the other hand, become "bruised" when shaken lessening the alcoholic effect, hence why Bond prefers them this way. This is a common error throughout the Bond franchise.
The PLAAF pilot radio to HMS Devonshire in Chinese. All pilots, regardless of nationality, communicate in English per ICAO rules.
