- Dr Ram Prasad Ghayal (Amitabh) is a surgeon whose scalpel proves to be a magic wand. He has a wife called Janaki (Dimple) and a brother called Bharat. Bharat is in love with a dancing doll Renu (Karishma) whom the baddie's brother (Deepak Tijouri) also loves. Bharat, an architect refuses to sign a power project involving heavy kickbacks and heavier displacement (with so many scams in the air, what can one expect the plot to be). He is implicated in a plot and sent to jail. Unable to bear this humiliation, he commits suicide and Renu marries Deepak instead of repenting her beloved's loss. - Surgeon Dr. Ram Prasad Ghayal is a master in his profession who has never failed an operation during his tenure. However he lives a wealthy life with his younger brother, Bharat who is an engineer by profession and his wife, Janki. Bharat's method of working honest prove to be a liability to many people who have him framed in the murder of a female only to be remanded to prison; shortly after Bharat is found hanging in his cell with the police writing his death off as an act of suicide. Unable to handle this news Janki fall to a drastic death forcing Dr. Ghayal to take to alcohol. Meanwhile Bharat's girlfriend, Renuka Jain get marry to Raja Tunga the younger brother of gangster Rana; ironically Raja meets with a vehicle accident with Dr. Ghayal called in to perform an operation on him; unfortunately Raja meets with his death. Renuka then holds Dr. Ghayal responsible for Raja's death and even lodges a complaint with the police due to which Dr. Ghayal is arrested and hold in a cell. It is here he gets to learn the reality how his brother was killed and how this killing was show case as suicide. - Bharat Ghayal lives a wealthy lifestyle along with his brother, Dr. Ram Prasad, and his sister-in-law, Janki, who had made a promise to his dying mother that she will look after him as her own son. Years later, Bharat has grown up, is in love with Renuka Jain, and wants to marry her. He introduces her to Ram and Janki, who approve of her. Renuka's dad, Umed Jain, also approves of this alliance and a date is set for the engagement. Before that could happen, Bharat is caught red-handed being intimate with a woman named Rajni, who is subsequently killed. Inspector Dhanapani arrests Bharat on the charge of murder, as his finger-prints are found on the gun, as well he bears marks of Rajni's finger-nails and teeth when she had tried to fight him off. The trial goes to the Courts, before any verdict is reached, Bharat is found hanging in his cell, apparently having committed suicide. Janki is unable to bear this shock and passes away, leaving Ram alone, devastated, who ultimately turns to alcohol. Renuka gets married to Raja Tunga and settles down to a married life. Then Ram and Renuka's paths cross when Raja is gravely injured and the only doctor who can save him is Ram. But Renuka is apprehensive about this and wants some other doctor to treat Raja. Before she could take any steps, Ram performs surgery - resulting in his death, and the Police arresting Ram and holding him in the very cell that Bharat had hanged himself. It is here that Ram will find out Bharat had not killed himself, but was assaulted and killed. The question remains, what can an alcoholic doctor, who has done little else other than save his patients' lives, do under such circumstances.—rAjOo (gunwanti@hotmail.com)
