Hugh Grant was one of the quintessential rom-com leading men of the 90s among the likes of Richard Gere and Leonardo DiCaprio. He was a popular heartthrob who managed to impress fans with his natural charm and his nonchalant humor. His roles in Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill, Bridget Jones’ Diary, and Love Actually made audiences swoon in the 90s and early 2000s.
Hugh Grant as William Thacker in Notting Hill
Another one of Grant’s popular films was 2002’s Two Weeks Notice where he was paired with Sandra Bullock. The duo had met five years prior and they had discussed working together. But Grant made a pretty bad impression on Bullock by narrating what he calls a ‘disgusting story’, which led to Grant not hearing from the actress for over 3 years.

A simple Google search of "the best rom-coms of all time" will take you down a nostalgic hole of '90s and early-'00s movies like "10 Things I Hate About You," "While You Were Sleeping," and "P.S. I Love You." These classics, among many others, have shaped how we view love on screen. But through these films, we've learned what love looks like through white protagonists; many Bipoc communities have failed to see themselves reflected. While we saw Latine actresses like Salma Hayek, Jennifer Lopez, and Christina Milian make their mark early on in romantic comedy movies, for years the entertainment industry has undervalued and underrepresented Latine communities on screen and behind the camera.

The concept of amnesia (and memory loss in general) has been repeatedly used in cinema, both in thrillers and in drama, as it allows for various interpretations (from actual to fake ones) while it can also be the main medium of an atmosphere of disorientation. Many romantic comedies utilize deception as a key plot point. However, for every film that incorporates an inciting fib with smarts and heart (from “While You Were Sleeping” to “You’ve Got Mail”), there are others that lack a similar savvy finesse (like “How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days” and “The Wedding Date”). “Players” competes in the latter league. Acting as a dumbed-down, gender-swapped kissing cousin to “Hitch,” it centers on a gal and her pals who know all the right moves to land hookups. Director Trish Sie’s middling and at times mawkish film not only makes us hate the game, but also its players.

"Mary Poppins" has been a beloved children's film since its release in 1964. The musical comedy was a veritable hit among British and American audiences alike and launched the career of the incomparable Julie Andrews, who became one of the brightest stars of the late 20th century.
The Disney classic swept the 1965 Oscars, earning Andrews an Academy Award for her performance and snagging additional awards for visual effects, editing, and music. The film was a great triumph for the studio as well as the stars. It was immediately recognized as the masterpiece that it is and has only retained and strengthened its legendary status with age.
Sadly, as the picture ages, so too do the actors that made it such an unforgettable romp. Very few members of the main cast are still alive today and the ones that haven't made it might surprise you. Glynis Johns, who played suffragette and mother...

Glynis Johns has sadly died.
The English actress, who played Mrs. Banks in the classic Mary Poppins, died Thursday (January 4) at the age of 100 at an assisted living home in Los Angeles, her manager Mitch Clem confirmed to Variety.
“Glynis powered her way through life with intelligence, wit, and a love for performance, affecting millions of lives. She entered my life early in my career and set a very high bar on how to navigate this industry with grace, class, and truth. Your own truth. Her light shined very brightly for 100 years. She had a wit that could stop you in your tracks powered by a heart that loved deeply and purely. Today is a somber day for Hollywood. Not only do we mourn the passing of our dear Glynis, but we mourn the end of the golden age of Hollywood,” her manager said in a statement.

Glynis Johns, the upbeat leading lady with the British charm who starred as the spirited feminist mother Winifred Banks in Mary Poppins, has died. She was 100.
Johns lived in West Hollywood and died Thursday of natural causes at an assisted living facility in the area, her manager, Mitch Clem, told The Hollywood Reporter.
A multitalented actress, dancer, pianist and singer, Johns earned a best supporting actress Oscar nomination for playing the widowed saloon and hotel owner Mrs. Firth in Fred Zinnemann’s Australia-set The Sundowners (1960).
Plus, she memorably sang “Send in the Clowns,” which Stephen Sondheim wrote just for her, in her Tony Award-winning performance as Desiree Armfeldt in the original 1973 production of A Little Night Music.

Yes, this 1995 romcom is completely ridiculous – but try not being charmed by Sandra Bullock and Bill Pullman
While You Were Sleeping is the feelgood movie I always find myself revisiting at this time of year. It is kind of ridiculous – but it is also funny, charming and utterly determined to lift your spirits.
Lucy Moderatz (Sandra Bullock) works as a token collector for the Chicago L train. Having lost her father the previous year, and with no family to speak of, she agrees to work over Christmas. Lucy has a crush on Peter (Peter Gallagher), a handsome commuter, who passes her kiosk every day in a whirlwind of perfect hair and 90s post-yuppie business attire.

The best way to enjoy the holiday season? Take some guilty pleasure in these fun rom-coms! Some of these will warm you up inside out. ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
Romantic comedies with a holiday or Christmas theme have always been enjoyable. There’s a certain flair to them. They’ve always been a trend and are almost on par with classic holiday films like “It’s a Wonderful Life” and “Meet Me in St. Louis.” Even better now — with streamers like Hallmark and Netflix, we have mass production of rom-coms and almost each one ends up being more enjoyable than the other — think “Love is in the Air” or perhaps Emma Robert’s “Holidate.” So, if you’ve run out of rom-coms to enjoy this holiday season, we’ve got you covered.

Watch out! This post contains spoilers.
We need to talk about Lewis Pullman in "Lessons in Chemistry." I didn't know what to expect when I first sat down to watch the series. I had not read the bestselling book that the Apple TV+ series was based on but knew it was mostly about a woman (Brie Larson's Elizabeth) dealing with sexism during her career in science. She eventually becomes a TV personality with a cooking show, as her love of chemistry and cooking go hand in hand.
Once I did start to watch, I fell almost instantly for the show. It mixes drama, romance, comedy, and science all together into something one-of-a-kind. It uses its period setting to tell a complicated story that still resonates today, and it gives Larson (an Oscar winner) a messy and complicated character to work with.

The young actors of the series, Benjamin McKenzie, Adam Brody, Mischa Barton and Rachel Bilson quickly became in-demand stars and the theme song “California” by Phantom Planet became a top ten hit in several countries while also reaching 35 on Billboard’s Alternative Airplay chart.

The Netflix original D.P. was a super hit back in 2021, and the way it ended had everyone expecting a second season soon enough. Our wait is finally over, and the next season is just around the corner, sporting more emotional damage while still being fun for viewers. Particularly the hardship that the boys and men go through, the hierarchy system, and the bullying that happens within the military that reaches atrocious levels. Season 1 explores the reasons the men choose to desert. The show is based on the webtoon D.P. Gaeui Nal, which translates to D.P. Dog Days, written by Kim Bo-Tong.

After establishing herself as one of Hollywood’s hottest actresses in the mid-’90s with movies like Speed and While You Were Sleeping, Sandra Bullock teamed up with three other established actresses — Nicole Kidman, Stockard Channing, and Dianne Wiest — for the movie Practical Magic. Though the film didn’t get great reviews at the time, and it fell short of breaking even at the box office, it has since established itself as a cult classic. Regardless of its performance, Bullock remembers the film as being incredibly fun to shoot, thanks to the rapport she shared with her co-stars. Sitcom star Ellie Kemper gets the chance to subvert her usually chipper screen persona in “Happiness for Beginners,” writer-director Vicky Wright’s third feature and — following 2020’s Leslie Bibb starrer “The Lost Husband” — her second adaptation of a Katherine Center novel. Kemper plays dour divorcee Helen, who as the film opens is about to head off on a group hiking vacation, in the hope that it might snap her out of her post-split blues. Unbeknownst to Helen, her brother’s hunky doctor friend Jake (Luke Grimes) has booked himself onto the same trip, for reasons that are crystal-clear to the audience from the moment an exasperated Helen tells him, “God, you’re so annoying!”

"The Starling Girl" actor Lewis Pullman grew up with a front row seat to what a steadfast and commendable career in front of the camera looks like. The actor is the son of beloved "Independence Day" and "While You Were Sleeping" actor Bill Pullman. "My dad has just a plethora of good advice, but one that he's adamant about is subverting expectations," Lewis tells Popsugar when asked about the best acting advice he's received throughout his career. Lewis takes that wisdom to heart with his latest role in "The Starling Girl."
In the film, Lewis plays Owen, a morally grey, 20-something youth pastor who feels more suffocated and misunderstood than ever upon returning home to his fundamentalist Christian community after an eye-opening trip to Puerto Rico. "He is so excited by all these new approaches to his faith and how he can further his transcendence into his belief in God,...

Warner Bros. Discovery’s potential summer sleeper “The Meg 2: Trench” dropped its first teaser trailer, essentially the same mouth-watering footage audiences saw at last month’s CinemaCon presentation.
As noted last month, the trailer’s tagline is “They’re back… for seconds,” mimicking the refreshingly cheeky marketing that helped turn “The Meg” into a surprise super-smash. The trailer opens with two land-bound prehistoric monsters eating a large bug, with onscreen text warning that for 65 million years one species ruled the world. The answer is not the tyrannosaurus rex, but rather a megalodon which is introduced eating a T-rex.
That was actually the prologue of Steve Alton’s first novel which didn’t make it into the first movie. One may recall that “The Lost World: Jurassic Park” and “Jurassic Park III” included setpieces and ideas from Michael Crichton’s “Jurassic Park” novel that didn’t make it into Steven Spielberg’s first dino blockbuster.

There are people out there who will tell you they don’t like romantic comedies. These same folks may as well confess that they’re dead inside, with a frozen void replacing where their heart once beat. You shouldn’t be their friend.
Romantic comedies are as old as the movies themselves. Generation after generation, audiences have sought out stories about the universal appeal (or agony) of love. And they’ve often wanted to laugh at it. When two characters—typically as photogenic as a camera lens demands—can generate real heat onscreen, and often channel that into knowing humor for the viewer, it’s more tangible than any visual effect. To wit William Shakespeare, it can create much ado about nothing, and it’s an absolute pleasure to laugh along with.
And despite the best efforts of some studios to drown the genre in the bathtub, rom-coms have endured in the 21st century,...

Breaking through at 50 miles per hour, Sandra Bullock hasn’t slowed down since “Speed.” Although the veteran performer’s first acting credit belongs to a minor part in the 1987 thriller “Hangmen” (which she’d follow up with a handful of straight-to-video releases and TV projects), Bullock didn’t become a household name among movie lovers until the mid ’90s.
After dazzling audiences and the box office as bus-jumping hero Annie Porter in the 1994 smash hit “Speed” opposite Keanu Reeves, Bullock was regularly cast in action-packed suspense flicks and lighter rom-com fare. She’d lead in both Jon Turteltaub’s charming romance “While You Were Sleeping” and Irwin Winkler’s cybercrime thriller “The Net” in 1995. The following year, she’d star in rom-com “Two If By Sea,” legal drama “A Time to Kill,” and historical novel adaption “In Love and War.” Of course, the future two-time Academy Award nominee (one time winner) was just getting started.

Sandra Bullock is a highly accomplished and versatile actor who can absolutely nail drama, thrillers, and sci-fi just as well as rom-coms. But we do love a Sandy B rom-com!
Her latest, The Lost City, sees her play a romance author who ends up on a jungle adventure with her ditzy cover model, played by Channing Tatum. It’s a very funny, good natured romp that harks back to the romantic blockbusters of the ’80s like Romancing the Stone. And it has reminded us how Sandra Bullock is good for the soul. Exclusive: Jonathan Glickman has launched Panoramic Media, a multi-platform content venture. The former MGM Motion Picture Group President launches with investment from Gary Barber, Spyglass Media Group, Eagle Pictures, Lantern Entertainment, Pinky Promise and United Talent Agency.
