John Paragon, an actor, director and writer most familiar from his disembodied, teal-faced role of Jambi the Genie on Paul Reubens’ Pee-wee’s Playhouse, died April 3 in Palm Springs of unknown causes. He was 66.
Paragon’s death, only recently made public, was confirmed to Deadline by the Riverside County Coroner.
In addition to his work with frequent collaborator Reubens — he also voiced Pterri the Pterodactyl on Playhouse — Paragon is remembered by Seinfeld fans as Cedric, half of the couple Bob and Cedric who appeared occasionally to browbeat Michael Richards’ Kramer. How many people remember the series Silk Stalkings? It’s a fair question to ask since the show hasn’t been seen in a pretty good amount of time and it’s one of the many crime shows that was prevalent at the time, not to mention that it was about crimes of passion, which one can easily assume meant that there was plenty of content that some folks might think was a little risque but still fit with the overall storyline. Bringing it back today might go one way or another, meaning it could be kind of cheesy and not live up

Richard Friedman, whom genre fans will know as the director of Arrow Video titles Doom Asylum and Scared Stiff, helms this cop drama starring Jason Gedrick – an actor who’s probably most well-known for the Iron Eagle franchise of the 80s but whom also starred in one of the most underrated TV cop shows of the 90s, Ez Streets. Friedman is no stranger to cop dramas either, having helmed episodes of Silk Stalkings and Baywatch Nights alongside a myriad of genre television.

Lee Unkrich, who won Academy Awards for “Toy Story 3” and “Coco,” is departing Pixar Animation Studios after 25 years to spend more time with his family.
Unkrich joined Pixar in 1994 after working as an assistant editor in television on “Silk Stalkings” and “Renegade.” He served as editor on Pixar’s first feature, 1995’s “Toy Story,” then co-directed “Toy Story 2,” “Monsters Inc.” and “Finding Nemo.” He was the sole director on 2010’s “Toy Story 3” and shared an adapted screenplay Oscar nomination with John Lasseter and Andrew Stanton.
Unkrich informed Pixar employees on Friday of his decision. “I’m not leaving to make films at another studio; instead, I look forward to spending much-needed time with my family and pursuing interests that have long been back-burnered,” he said.
Lasseter, Pixar’s co-founder, departed the company in late 2017 amid accusations of sexual harrassment and was hired earlier this month at Skydance Animation.

Welcome back to our ongoing From VHS to VOD column – our guide through the strange and obscure – the odd, unseen and unreleased (well unreleased on disc formats) films available on streaming and on-demand services.
in the intro to our last installment I mentioned the explosion of obscure movies hitting Amazon Prime Video – available for streaming rather than purchase, some of which have been made available in the UK for the first time since VHS and a Lot that have been added to the service in their original uncut form! So with that in mind I thought over the next few columns I’d take you through a few of the films I have lined up in my “To Watch” list… Some of which I still haven’t seen!
So sit back and check out what weird and wonderful films I’ve discovered in this edition of From VHS to VOD...

Alright, so according to a new report from Soaps.com,we're about to see Bill plot out a new, big scandal. If this scandal works, it could definitely put him back in the driver's seat at Spencer Publications. This is why Bill is going to needs some very specialized help to pull it off. That's where this new guy Ken will come into play. It's being reported by both Soaps.com and TVinsider.com that Bill is going to hire a tech wiz guy named Ken to hack into the Spencer Publications computer files in an effort to retrieve the incriminating recording that Liam has of Bill confessing to setting the Spectra building on fire. Obviously, if Bill can get his hands on it, Liam would have nothing to continue blackmailing Bill with. That would set the stage for Bill to return and take back his company. The big question...

There are shows that have been justly lauded as the best the medium has to offer. And then there are those series that have been unjustly obscured by history ... for the moment. Some are cult faves that never crossed over; others were short-lived hits that didn’t get kissed by the rerun gods. And some were just plain trash. But as Oscar the Grouch used to sing, we love trash — anything dirty or dingy or dusty. Here are a dozen shows that didn't make our "100 Greatest TV Shows" list but damn,...

Back in the very early 1990s came the first wave of criticism against video game violence with the blood and gore in the likes of "Mortal Kombat" and "Doom" often coming under fire and leading to the establishment of the Esrb video game ratings system.
Without question though, the most controversial game of the time was that of "Night Trap". Banned in several countries and pulled from release in others, the game became the poster child for anti-video game violence supporters during U.S. Senate and Congressional hearings.
Consisting of full-motion video segments, the game had you monitoring a house which has been the scene of numerous disappearances and where a group of girls are now spending the night. The video sequences resemble nothing much more than a bad slasher film or some kind of "Silk Stalkings" meets "Twilight Zone" style deal. It mostly seemed to be about scantily clad...

Castle channels The Devil Wears Prada this week to tell an affecting story about Beckett's mother...
This review contains spoilers.
6.14 Dressed To Kill
This week’s episode was full of surprises, most of them lovely.
The mystery at the centre of the episode took advantage of the success of The Devil Wears Prada to bring us into the fashion world. Because many of us had seen the movie, the writers were able to spare us the explanation of why fashion matters (at least enough to take all the characters but Yumi seriously), and more importantly, they were able to use the aide-leaving-her-apartment-at-the-crack-of-dawn-to-get-her-boss-her-nitpicky-breakfast to communicate a great deal about not only the kind of woman Matilda King is, but to instantly illustrate precisely what the relationship to her subordinates was like—even to the point of making the terrified receptionist seem a touch redundant.

Another Friday has passed and that means two titles never before released on DVD have been announced by the Scream Factory. You may not remember The Vagrant but odds are you remember The Horror Show and have been wondering if it would ever see the light of day again.
The big title of this week’s Scream Factory announcement is unquestionably The Horror Show, or as it is known in some foreign circles, House III. I never understood how anyone came to the conclusion that film could be released as a third installment of the House franchise, but then I also have never understood how a movie about killer radioactive tree roots could be marketed as Troll 3.
In much the same way Hollywood gave us dueling volcano films (Volcano and Dante’s Peak) and dueling celestial doomsday flicks (Armageddon and Deep Impact), 1989 saw the release of dueling fright flicks about...

Man, 1995 is going to suck. If you’re worried about what the future is going to be like in the 90′s, I would advise steering clear of “Leprechaun 3″ and “Silk Stalkings” director Brian Trenchard-Smith’s goofy dystopian effort “Escape 2000″ (aka “Turkey Shoot”). Steve “Private Wars” Railsback and Olivia “Ice Cream Man” Hussey, who would later reunite for the 1994 erotic thriller “Save Me”, star as a pair of inmates at a re-education camp for moral degenerates. And, in true “prison in the middle of nowhere” fashion, most of the in-house activities include torture, humiliation, and rape. Just when you think life on the inside couldn’t possibly get any worse for these poor bastards, our heroes are soon thrust into a cheesy “Most Dangerous Game”-style scenario by a group of eccentric hunters, one of which employs the services of a freak he liberated from a sideshow. Yes, it’s that kind of movie,...

Last month, as the fate of ABC's Gcb hung in the balance, we were worried it would become a member of the "Gone Too Soon" club, TV shows that were snuffed out before they had a chance to flourish, or at least before we had a chance to grow tired of them.
Sadly, Gcb has gone to that big Upn in the sky, where it can run happily in the meadow with the likes of Firefly, Pushing Daisies, and Manimal.
While we mourn Gcb's loss, let's take a look at more shows that were ended too quickly. They were unappreciated at the the time, but they were either too good or too ... interesting ... not to have been offered the opportunity to flourish. Or flame out. Which is just as good.

Sleeper hit Burn Notice has its sixth season premiere tonight, and I’m betting the suits over at the USA Network haven’t been this pleased since they dug Silk Stalkings out of CBS’s garbage. Which, yes, every series creator says before a premiere, but I think Nix actually means it this time. As you may (or may not) recall, the end of last season found the sweet(?) and precious(!) Fiona in the slammer after she turned herself in for blowing up the consulate. This canny move totally threw a monkey wrench in Anson’s plans (Jere Burns,...

The relative success of The A-Team and 21 Jump Street has led Hollywood to consider what other Stephen J. Cannell TV series it can reboot, now that Cannell is dead and can’t poke his goatee into the proceedings. NBC has already called dibs on Wiseguy, William Katt’s persistent phone calls have only soured them on The Greatest American Hero, and Stingray and Silk Stalkings were both merely elaborate pranks created to serve as ironic references 20 years later, so that pretty much leaves The Rockford Files, which Universal is now developing as a feature film. Deadline reports that ...

"Psych" Season 6 is rapidly drawing to a close - only two more new episodes and then it won't return until the fall. But the Season 6 finale promises to be a good one - it better be, since it doesn't appear to have any Yin-Yang tie-ins, which the show has done for the past three seasons.
The episode is titled "SantaBarbaratown," a send-up of the 1974 Jack Nicholson-Faye Dunaway thriller "Chinatown" (which is definitely worth a viewing if you've never seen it, just by the way). The plot involves a body being found 20 years after its disappearance and Shawn, Gus and Henry re-opening the case. Based on the above picture, we'd guess the body is uncovered during some kind of construction project.
Guest stars include Rob Estes ("Silk Stalkings," "Melrose Place"), Lolita Davidovich ("The L Word," "Gods and Monsters") and Max Gail ("Barney Miller"). Should be fun. "Psych" airs Wednesday nights at 10 p.
