Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga witnessed an underwhelming opening weekend during Memorial Day, despite its hype and the fantastic cast assembled for the film. Connected to 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road as a prequel, George Miller’s latest installment had initially anticipated big box office numbers. However, Furiosa’s path to Valhalla was unfortunately tarnished.

Earning a disappointing $32M domestically in the four-day Memorial Day weekend and around $36.5M overseas, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga took its worldwide total opening weekend haul to a lowly $66-68M. But, despite the box office collection diminishing hopes for George Miller’s next installment Mad Max: The Wasteland, reaction from audiences continues to drive its success.

More than two months after it first hit theaters, "Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire" has crossed a fairly significant box office milestone. The film has been an afterthought for several weeks (all due respect), as several big, new movies such as "Challengers," "The Fall Guy," "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes," and "Furiosa," among others, have entered the marketplace. Be that as it may, Sony's latest entry in the long-running franchise had just enough gas left in the tank to pass the $200 million mark globally.
For its 10th weekend in theaters, "Frozen Empire" pulled in $355,000 domestically, coming in at number 14 on the box office charts. The film had to shed 591 screens as "Furiosa" and "The Garfield Movie" opened to a hugely disappointing $26.3 million and $24 million, respectively. Naturally, that gobbled up the lion's share of the attention. But with that little bit of extra money, the new "Ghostbusters" has amassed $112.7 million...

Forty-five years after George Miller introduced audiences to Mad Max, the auteur may have finally hit the end of the road through the postapocalyptic wasteland unless he finds some high-octane gasoline soon.
The revered filmmaker’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga bowed to a disappointing $32 million domestically for the four-day Memorial Day weekend and $36.5 million overseas, diminishing hopes for Mad Max: The Wasteland, another Max installment Miller has been toying with for years.
Miller and Nico Lathouris wrote the scripts for both The Wasteland and Furiosa as part of the development process of Mad Max: Fury Road, the 2015 Warner Bros. film that became a surprise awards season juggernaut, winning six Oscars, and which became an instant action classic. The Wasteland would follow Max Rockatansky in the year before Fury Road, and is said to involve a young mother — and (naturally) include plenty of action.

Destiny 2 is one of the most popular live-service titles and one of the few games with a live-service formula that works well. Especially after it went free-to-play, the game enjoyed much newfound popularity.
Even in 2024, tens of thousands of players will load up the game on a daily basis. The Final Shape is an upcoming major expansion for the game, which will go live on June 4, 2024. Along with the expansion, some much-needed changes will be made to the game.
The Final Shape Will Mark the End of Sunsetting Weapons in Destiny 2 The upcoming Destiny 2 expansion may prove to be significant.
Destiny 2’s upcoming expansion looks promising, but it may or may not reinstate the title to its former glorious status. But it is all set to change significantly how things are done in the game. One such change players have long awaited is the end of the Weapon Sunset mechanic.

If you were to shortlist all of the legendary horror films that are crying out for a video game adaptation, it’s unlikely that the first to spring to mind would be the one in which alien invaders encase people inside cotton candy cocoons, so that they can later drink said abductees gelatinised fluids through a silly straw.
Yet while 1988’s Killer Klowns from Outer Space might not be held in the same esteem as, say, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, it’s the IP that ultimately inspired a brand new collaboration between the teams at Teravision and Illfonic. And with the latter studio having established itself as a real authority in this genre — counting Friday the 13th: The Game, Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed and Predator: Hunting Grounds amongst its credits — you can hardly blame them for going with their gut. Warning: contains spoilers for Doctor Who episode “73 Yards”.
When Doctor Who writer Russell T Davies delivers an episode like “73 Yards”, the temptation to pin it down is tough to resist. It’s hard not to want diagrams, flow-charts and footnoted explanations of every slippery element. It’s worth resisting that urge though, because this episode was designed to evade simple answers. No amount of close-reading will reveal its definitive truth.
That’s a deliberate choice, let’s be clear. If Davies had wanted to pin a single interpretation on this strange, melancholic tale, then he’d have done it. That big brain would easily have invented a sci-fi or folkloric precedent for the phenomenon Ruby experiences, in which she’s followed at a precise distance by an always-out-of-reach figure who makes anybody who approaches her run screaming away from Ruby forever. Davies would have conjured up a fictional fix for...

The darkness enveloped me, and despite the summer heat outside, the air in the building was cool. I sat in silence, intently focused, anticipating what happened next, but not quite prepared. I tensed up upon seeing the spectral woman directly ahead of me. She silently floated, translucent and seemingly unaware — until at last facing me and lunging with a guttural growl as her face distorted into some horrific entity.

This summer, "Despicable Me 4" is coming to theaters, bringing back Steve Carell as Gru, the super-villain who has since become an agent of the Anti-Villain League. Over the years, Gru and his girls Margo (Miranda Cosgrove), Edith (Dana Gaier), and Agnes (Madison Polan) have been through plenty of wild adventures, and now that they're joined by Gru's wife Lucy (Kristen Wiig), they're welcoming a little bundle of joy into the family: Gru Jr., who is apparently intent on tormenting his dad.
However, the family will be forced on the run, as Gru is forced to deal with a new nemesis in the form of Maxime Le Mal (Will Ferrell) and his femme fatale girlfriend Valentina (Sofia Vergara). Of course, the little yellow Minions will be joining them, ensuring there will be plenty of chaos (and bananas and farts) in theaters this summer.

When you think of classic horror comedies, you definitely think of the 1980s, the decade where the genre was mostly born; you have “Ghostbusters,” “Gremlins,” “Critters,” and of course “Beetlejuice” by Tim Burton, arguably one of the masters of all things macabre and comedic and a genre unto himself. And while it took Burton almost four decades to make a sequel to his Michael Keaton-starring classic—about a malicious spirit (Beetlejuice) hired to drive out an unbearable family that has moved into the home of a recently deceased couple— he’s finally returning with “Beetlejuice 2,” aka “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” in the fall.

Everywhere on social media, you read comments from readers lamenting our modern culture.
They long for the good old days when comedy was offensive, antiheroes said whatever they were thinking, and actors were judged by their undeniable talent rather than the biggest mistakes of their careers.
Plotlines were more important than representation. Complicated characters were more important than "Wokeness."
Back then, they say, it didn't matter if a character was black or gay. All that mattered was the story.
We watched because a filmmaker had something important to say, not because every race and sexual orientation appeared and was treated with respect.
We listened because regardless of what anyone said about a comedian, at least he was funny!
Unsurprisingly, many of the same social critics would also say no movies from the 2010-2030 era will be remembered as classics 20 or 30 years from now.

We don’t know very much about The Gorge, the latest film from Sinister, The Black Phone, and Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson. Announced a year and a half ago, it’s an Apple Original Film coming our way from Skydance Productions and has Anya Taylor-Joy (Furiosa) and Miles Teller (Top Gun: Maverick) in the lead roles – and it has just earned a PG-13 rating from the Motion Picture Association ratings board for intense sequences of violence and action, brief strong language, some suggestive material and thematic elements.
Taylor-Joy recently told the folks at Collider that she was drawn to The Gorge because “I was really excited to work with Miles [Teller]. We’re all good friends, but we’ve been wanting to work together for a really long time. I think I was intrigued by the fact that it was semi genre-less in the sense that it was both a...

The original 1994 adaptation of The Crow still has a huge, loyal following, so there was already a certain amount of scepticism surrounding Lionsgate's decision to develop a reboot. When the first trailer was released, that apprehension turned to outright disgust for a lot of fans.
Are people being a little quick to judge based off a single teaser? Perhaps, but for many, Brandon Lee will always be the only Eric Draven, and that's all there is to it.
Total Film interviewed Ghostbusters star Ernie Hudson, who played heroic cop Sergeant Daryl Albrecht in The Crow, for the Goth classic's 30th anniversary, and the actor admitted that he's only recently been able to revisit the film due to the tragic accident that ended Lee's life during filming.
"Well, it's very hard for me. I love The Crow and I'm so thankful to have been a part of it – and I...

“Jaws” in 1975 is remembered as the movie that birthed the summer global blockbuster; its many children include “Star Wars,” Raiders of the Lost Ark,” “E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial,” “Top Gun,” “Ghostbusters,” “Ghost,” “Twister,” “The Lion King,” “Independence Day,” “Speed,” and “Men in Black.” Today, that bloodline is threatened with extinction.
On the surface, that seems ridiculous — summer box office is still defined by blockbusters — but today that means sequels. It’s become exceedingly rare for studios to invest over $100 million in a summer movie with an original screenplay that’s not already part of a franchise. That’s what makes Paramount Pictures’ $110 million “If” such an outlier.
Still, being that exception also hands writer-director John Krasinski a double-edged sword. Those original blockbusters — all released between 1975-1999 — ended up with domestic gross totals, in 2024 ticket price terms, of over $400 million. Consensus on opening weekend for “If” has been around $40 million,...

Jason Cloth, a Canadian financier with executive producer credits on dozens of films such as Joker, Licorice Pizza and the upcoming Mission: Impossible movie, is out as co-head of C2 Motion Picture Group as he fields allegations of fraud on a number of projects.
The announcement that Cloth stepped down, made on Tuesday, comes less than a week after a Florida jury found that he defrauded an investor out of millions of dollars for the production of a slate of movies, including Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Monkey Man and NBA docuseries The Pathway. Cloth, who didn’t mount a defense in the trial, was ordered to pay roughly $19.6 million. Since 2021, he and his former financing company Creative Wealth Media have been named in at least four lawsuits, two of which have since been voluntarily dismissed, accusing him of making false statements to solicit investments and loans that he allegedly failed to repay.

The once-booming metropolis known as New York City has, in recent years, devolved into a town of violence and crime. Random assaults take place almost daily as aggression seems to skyrocket. No matter who you are there’s always a chance of witnessing a crime.
Now well-known actor Steve Buscemi is the latest victim of these acts of aggression as the actor was attacked by a man unprovoked. The man punched the actor in the face and quickly fled the scene. Buscemi was rushed to a nearby hospital and is said to have suffered swelling to the left side of his face and left eye.
In a statement made by his publicist: “Steve Buscemi was assaulted in Mid-Town Manhattan, another victim of a random act of violence in the city. He is ok and appreciates everyone’s well wishes, though incredibly sad for everyone that this has happened to him...

In space no one can hear you scream — but back here on terra firma they certainly can. And sci-fi fans will be doing just that with the news that Alien queen Sigourney Weaver is reportedly heading for a galaxy far, far away. This wouldn’t be Sigourney Weaver’s first time in space, but it would be her introduction into a galaxy far, far away! The famed Alien, Galaxy Quest and Ghostbusters actress is currently in talks to join Jon Favreau’s big-screen adventures of The Mandalorian and Grogu.
Deadline is reporting that Weaver is considering a “key role” in the theatrical debut of the Disney+ characters. She’s undoubtedly a commanding presence, even when her screen time is limited to a guest appearance. But how will she fit into the Star Wars universe?
The woman who made Ellen Ripley a legendary character could easily be some Mandalorian matriarch. Or she could be a ruthless Imperial commander or Moff. Maybe even another one of those Jedi who escaped Order 66?
There are some concerns regarding the casting of Sigourney Weaver, even if she is science fiction royalty. It’s not her, in reality,...

In a galaxy far, far away, no one can hear you scream…Sigourney Weaver — who is certainly no stranger to sci-fi — is reportedly in talks to join the cast of The Mandalorian & Grogu, set to be the first new Star Wars film in seven years by the time it arrives in 2026.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, Sigourney Weaver is possibly near a deal to become part of the Star Wars Saga with The Mandalorian & Grogu, which is huge and exciting news for fans of both. And considering her history in the sci-fi and fantasy genre – Alien franchise, Ghostbusters, Galaxy Quest, Avatar, etc. – she would absolutely be a natural addition.

The reigning Queen of Comic-Con and the ultimate science fiction superstar, Sigourney Weaver, might be gearing up to conquer yet another interstellar franchise.
Weaver is in talks to join the cast of the Star Wars film, “The Mandalorian & Grogu,” Variety has confirmed.
Earlier this year, Lucasfilm announced the standalone spinoff featuring Pedro Pascal as the stoic bounty hunter known as “The Mandalorian” (or Djarin to fans deep in the franchise) and his disarmingly charming puppet counterpart Grogru. Created by Jon Favreau for Disney+, the series followed the odd couple as they traipse across the galaxy far, far away avoiding the Empire and safeguarding the adorable green creature whilst forging a relationship for the ages. It’s part Western, part monster-of-the-week with delightful cameos from Star Wars universe legacy characters sprinkled in now and again.

From starring in the charming drama-comedy Gifted in 2017 to her career defining role as a child bride in the popular dystopian series The Handmaid’s Tale, Grace has accumulated praise from all corners of the industry.
Recently, McKenna returned for a second helping in the latest instalment of the rebooted Ghostbusters franchise as Phoebe. Baby Reindeer, the latest runaway hit on Netflix, is a story about a stalker on the surface. However, upon watching the show, it becomes evident that it deals with serious themes of mental health issues, trauma, sexual abuse, and the unhealthy pattern of self-sabotaging loops that are not very unfamiliar to most of us. The show starts with Martha (Jessica Gunning), a middle-aged woman who is obese and looks pale, walking into a bar and getting a free drink offered by Donny (Richard Gadd). Sounds simple enough, right? But things go into an uncontrollable spiral from here, and with each episode, the audience is sucked more and more into the horrors that Donny faces because of his deeds and past trauma that do not let him act rationally.
What Exactly Happens in Baby Reindeer?

The film, serving as both a direct follow-up to Ghostbusters: Afterlife and a respectful nod to the original films, has garnered a financial success, grossing over $190 million globally. This feat

“Everyone knows who Jason is. Everyone can point out The Predator. And, of course, everyone’s familiar with the Ghostbusters!”
So says Jared Gerritzen, Chief Creative Officer at IllFonic, as we sit down for a quick interview with him on Discord. He’s certainly an authoritative voice on this matter too, given that he’s worked on adaptations for each of those cherished properties over the years, giving them all the asymmetrical multiplayer treatment that his development studio has got down to a fine art by now.
He continues: “And that means that people have pre-conceived notions of what those franchises should be. I guess what I’m saying is that they come with the burden of expectation, as you’ve got to [appease] fans of every individual movie or comic-book, regardless of their varying degrees of quality.”
Yet Gerritzen seems less wary of any such purism when it comes to IllFonic’s latest release.

Because 90% of the movie franchises today are based on material from generations before, most big movies have mastered the art of the cameo. Since the 2010s particularly, they've gotten even better at incorporating legacy characters into the narrative, even if the movie technically isn't about them. "The Force Awakens" might've been all about introducing Rey/Finn/Poe to lead this new sequel trilogy, but they still gave Leia and Han enough screen time to "pass the torch" to the new generation.
This wasn't just a quick way to score some easy nostalgia points; it also assured the more fickle viewers in the audience that this new trilogy had plenty of respect for the original trilogy, that it wasn't going to stomp all over everyone's childhoods the way some fans feared. From "Scream" to "Jurassic Park" to "Ghostbusters," it feels like the safest way to start off a new string of...

The Complete ‘Planet of the Apes’ Guide To Help You Watch The Films Before ‘Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes’ Release (Picture Credit: IMDb)
Tim Burton’s attempt at rebooting the renowned sci-fi “Planet of the Apes” film franchise that took the world by storm in the early and late 70’s was unsuccessful. However, the complete reboot of the series in 2011 did what Burton was unable to do. The franchise was back in action and was stronger than ever with a better budget, action, and graphics (CGI was preferred this time instead of costumes).
The original “Planet of the Apes” was a pentalogy based on a French novel called “La Planète des singes.” It spanned over 6 years, with a continuously decreasing budget for each film — the franchise gained massive traction despite that.

As we know, Wonder Woman 3 is no longer moving forward now that James Gunn and Peter Safran have taken over DC Studios, but it’s a choice Chris Pine doesn’t understand.
Chris Pine. who played Steve Trevor in Wonder Woman and Wonder Woman 1984, told Business Insider that he was “stunned” when he learned Wonder Woman 3 had been axed. “I’m stunned that they said no to a billion-dollar franchise and decided to pivot elsewhere,” Pine said “I don’t know what the reasoning was behind that; it’s above my pay grade, but Wonder Woman is an incredible character; Patty is such a thoughtful director.”
The actor had no expectations that he would have been involved in the third movie. “Me. No. Homie is dead. Steve is gonzo,” he said. “It would be ridiculous to try to bring me back.” Trevor was killed off in the first Wonder Woman...

Nick Jonas and Paul Rudd are set to star in the latest movie from Jon Carney, the director behind Once and Sing Street.
The project, which was written by Carney and Peter McDonald, will follow Rudd as a wedding singer and Jonas as a flagging pop star who come together to write a song to comedic consequences. Filming is underway in Dublin.
Anthony Bregman’s Likely Story is producing along with 30West, which is also set to finance with Screen Ireland. Along with Carney and Bregman, Likely Story’s Peter Cron will produce with Robert Walpole and Rebecca O’Flanagan for Treasure Entertainment, who worked with Carney on his last film Flora and Son, which landed at Apple after a Sundance debut.
30West, WME Independent and UTA Independent Film Group are handling sales out of the Cannes market.
“I’m delighted to be working with so many great people,” said Carney.
