Sony Pictures is playing a little release date shuffle this Friday evening. Kraven the Hunter, the upcoming Spider-Man spin-off starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, was originally slated to hit theaters on August 30th, but the film has now been pushed back to a December 13th release. Kraven the Hunter‘s fresh release date was already occupied by the new Karate Kid movie, which has now been bumped to May 30, 2025.
Kraven the Hunter has been delayed several times already, but hopefully, this will be the last move. Coming on the heels of the less-than-impressive debuts of Morbius and Madame Web, this Spider-Man spin-off has a lot to prove, but with an R-rated edge, it could just turn the tide. Director J.C. Chandor has previously described the movie as a tragedy. “Sony probably doesn’t want me to lead with this. but the story is a tragedy,” Chandor said last summer. “When the final credits roll on this film,...

When Cobra Kai returns to Netflix for its sixth and final season, the Karate Kid spinoff plans to expand the Miyagiverse significantly. The teen-focused drama Crane kicked martial arts action fans in the face in 2018, building on the Karate Kid legacy started by Ralph Macchio (Daniel Larusso), William Zabka (Johnny Lawrence), and Pat Morita (Mr. Miyagi). With every season, Cobra Kai has grown through fan-service casting, interpersonal drama, and hard-hitting action. No one could have predicted the Miyagiverse would expand the way it has because of Cobra Kai, and now the show’s co-creator, Jon Hurwitz, says fans can expect Season 6 to explore the franchise in exciting ways like never before!
In a thread on Twitter/X, Hurwitz assured fans the final season of the series delivers big surprises, in-depth character flashbacks, and plot elements that expand the Miyagiverse.
“Season 6 expands the ‘Karate Kid/Cobra Kai’ universe more than the first 5 seasons combined.

The upcoming Karate Kid film is continuing to ready its cinematic crane-kick, gathering more cast members as it prepares to get in front of cameras. The film, due out before the end of the year, will see Sony enter the Karate-verse, uniting original star Ralph Macchio as Daniel Larusso with Jackie Chan’s Mr. Han, from the 2010 remake. Following the news that American Born Chinese star Ben Wang will be the one waxing on (and waxing off) in the leading role, there’s another addition to roster: Ming-Na Wen.
According to Variety, Wen has joined the film in an undisclosed role. But given her action-heavy turn as Fennec Shand in The Mandalorian and The Book Of Boba Fett – not to mention kicking ass in Agents Of Shield, and Mulan – you’d hope she’ll be getting into the karate combat here. “The big fear, when I agreed to direct, was that I didn’t really know technically a lot about what a director should know about lenses and apertures,” admits Ray Romano about his initial trepidation about stepping behind the camera on his film “Somewhere in Queens.” The multi-hyphenate talent directed, co-wrote, produced, and starred in the film, but the decision to direct it himself came very late in the development process. What ultimately persuaded him was his sense that he was an expert in “the story and the soul of the story and every character’s motivation.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.
Penned with Mark Stegemann, “Somewhere in Queens” does draw heavily on Romano’s life experience. The film centers on the relationship between father Leo Russo, played by Romano, and his son Matthew, nicknamed “Sticks” (Jacob Ward), who is the star player on his high school basketball team.

At the Gates is a thriller that is out now – that is enriched by its social commentary. It also marks the breakthrough role for Ezekiel Pacheco, who we interviewed, alongside his co-star, the more experienced actress Sadie Stanley.
Stanley speaks about having Miranda Otto as her on-screen mother, while Pacheco speaks incredibly highly of filmmaker Augustus Meleo Bernstein, who he feels is heading right from the top – a place he also believes he’ll get to himself. After this performance, you wouldn’t exactly bet against it. Be sure to watch both interviews below, in their entirety.

At The Gates is an entertaining and timely thriller that blends the hot button topic of illegal immigration and undocumented workers into a universal story of fear, paranoia, and the perilous state of our own humanity. That it succeeds to the degree it does is the fact that first time feature writer/director Augustus Meleo Bernstein keeps us guessing as to the intentions and the ultimate fate of its tight circle of main characters. Essentially this is a chamber piece all set in one attractive Los Angeles area suburb’s home and the class drama taking place inside that seems ripped from headlines of individual tragic stories of illegal immigrants who have to worry at any given moment when Ice is going to show up at their doorstep, or in the case of At The Gates, at the doorstep of their employers.

With new protagonists but the same style and new mysteries, this Prime Video series has already become a hit among young audiences.
Do you enjoy series set in small and charming towns where not everything is as charming as it seems? Stephen King turned this setting into a whole genre, and now “Cruel Summer” takes it up again to offer us this new vision with many flashbacks and intertwining stories.
Very interesting in terms of cinematography, with an elaborate script and a cast of young actors that make the plot worthwhile.

[This interview was conducted prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike authorization.] The second season of Cruel Summer is set in the 2000s, taking place in three different periods in the same year at the end of the millennium. As such, TV Insider asked its Gen Z stars Sadie Stanley (21) and Lexi Underwood (19) a few early 2000s nostalgia questions; this time, the era’s unique sense of fashion. In the clip above, we asked to see which iconic staples of the era were hot or not. “Low-rise jeans? Hot!” the duo agreed before just as swiftly deciding Dress Over jeans are a not. “Okay, it’s worked on some people in some certain circumstances, but would I wear that out? No,” Stanley said. “But for the nostalgia…,” she continues before Underwood chimes in, “To those of you who pull it off, hats off to yall.” When it comes to thin eyebrows, it was a resounding “not.” “I had thin...

Lexi Underwood, Sadie Stanley, and Griffin Gluck in ‘Cruel Summer’ season 2 episode 9 (Freeform/Justine Yeung)
We’re down to the wire with just two episodes to go on the second season of Freeform’s Cruel Summer, and the suspense over what happened to Luke is incredibly intense. Season two episode nine, “The Miseducation of Luke Chambers,” takes place in the fall and winter of 1999 as well as early January 2000.
Luke (Griffin Gluck) sits down and watches home video of himself and Megan as kids, hanging out with their families in the woods. Later, Luke is lounging in the pool when his brother, Brent (Braeden De La Garza), tries to drown him. Thankfully, it’s just a joke. That leads to Luke, Brent, and Steve (Paul Adelstein) reminiscing about Luke’s mom.
The school year begins, and Megan (Sadie Stanley), Isabella (Lexi Underwood), and Luke hang out, having grown closer over the summer.

San Diego Comic-Con is going to be a little different this year. Many studios had already dropped out of presenting, including Marvel, Sony, HBO, Universal, and Netflix, and now that SAG-AFTRA has joined the WGA on the picket lines, you can pretty much kiss any panel involving writers or actors goodbye. The official Comic-Con schedule has been updated with a list of cancelled panels, which unfortunately includes Dune: Part Two, The Boys spin-off series Gen V, Amazon’s The Wheel of Time, Lionsgate’s upcoming The Strangers trilogy, and more.

Taking place in three different time periods in the same year at the end of the millennium, Gen Z stars Sadie Stanley (21) and Lexi Underwood (19) are leaning into the early 2000s nostalgia that defined their childhoods for the season. But what are their favorite pop culture references from that time? We asked, and their answers are in the video interview above. The Princess Diaries (2001) is at the top of Stanley’s mind when thinking about her favorite 2000s movies. “That was like my childhood,” she told us in the TV Insider office. Almost Famous and American Psycho (both 2000) are two more beloved flicks. For Underwood, her favorites are 10 Things I Hate About You, Love Jones, and Love & Basketball. With the WGA currently picketing and a looming SAG-AFTRA strike already impacting San Diego Comic-Con with several film and TV companies, i.e. Marvel, Lucasfilm, Sony, Universal, Netflix skipping, Lord knows what a truncated and tamer Comic-Con is going to look like from July 19-23, especially after an explosive 2022 which repped the confab’s return to in-person after going dark for two years during Covid for 2020 and 2021. Halfway through its second season, Cruel Summer’s murder mystery is heating up.
“It’s a huge bomb that’s dropped,” says showrunner Elle Triedman about the recently released episode five cliffhanger. “It just makes the characters — and I hope the audience — reexamine everything they thought they knew.”
Coming off the heels of a successful debut season, the Freeform anthology series reset itself for season two, introducing new characters (and a new cast), a new story and new setting to its audiences.
“There’s a lot of pressure,” Triedman tells The Hollywood Reporter of joining the series for its sophomore run. “The fans are fierce. They spend a lot of time; it’s kind of amazing, just reading their theories. They look at everything.”
With producer credits on shows like Revenge and Devious Maids, Triedman stepped in as showrunner and executive producer after the...

It’s Jenga, but with fun questions! When Cruel Summer’s Sadie Stanley (Megan Landry) and Lexi Underwood (Isabella Larue) stopped by TV Insider recently, we had them play just that with Knock Your Blocks Off! The first block chosen (and question written on it) led to a fitting answer, given the second season of the Freeform anthology. Summer is cruel, even in the winter. In episode five of season two of "Cruel Summer," Lexi Underwood's character Isabella's past has been a mystery all season thus far, and in a clip from the installment, which debuts on Monday, June 26, viewers finally get a little insight into who the diplomat's daughter was before coming to town.
"Cruel Summer" season two follows Isabella after she moves in with Megan and cozies up to Megan's best friend Luke. Their love triangle eventually turns deadly, and viewers are slowly piecing together just what exactly went wrong - and who was involved. In the clip, Isabella's "old friend" Trevor questions why he hasn't been able to get in touch with her. "I've been searching for you for months, clearly I should have looked at the mall. What is this, Abercrombie?" asks Trevor, noting that she's "a long way from Milan." He questions her,...

The second installment of Freeform’s “Cruel Summer” centers on an unfolding mystery tied to a “ride or die” bond shared between two best friends — themes star Sadie Stanley was more than ready to tackle in the next phase of her acting career.
“I wanted to venture into something a little bit more mature, a little bit darker [with] a little bit more grit to it — something for me to have some fun with,” Stanley, who got her start playing Kim Possible in several live action adaptations of the Disney series, told TheWrap. “‘Somewhere in Queens’ was like that for me, too,” Stanley added, referring to Ray Romano’s recently released drama. “It was exactly what I was looking for.”
