Welcome to the latest instalment of a brand-new feature here on Nerdly, where one of our comic gurus, Ian Wells, delves into comics history and dissects Comics Interview, the long-running journal of interviews and criticism from David Anthony Kraft (Dak).
Respect For Dak
In this issue Dak kicks things off talking about how much writing he is still doing in other forms. Borrowing a page from his book I want to take a more extended look at his comics career as I don’t feel I done it justice in the first issue. I mean no disrespect but I feel ‘journeyman writer’ is best to describe his career. It is an impressive catalogue of work, where he can play claim to having worked on legendary characters such as; Kamandi, Tarzan, Captain America and She Hulk. In 1984 he finished a long stint on Worlds Finest, so you can add Batman and...

As you prep your 2024 Emmy predictions for Best Comedy Actress, make sure to check out our photo gallery that catalogs the likeliest contenders. Including newly promoted 2023 supporting champ Ayo Edebiri (“The Bear”), three past winners are presently leading the pack, practically ensuring one of the most exciting acting races of the year.
Edebiri’s expected challengers include this category’s reigning victor, Quinta Brunson (“Abbott Elementary”), and 2021-2022 winner Jean Smart (“Hacks”). Brunson already lost to Smart two years ago but was honored that night for writing her show’s pilot episode.
None of the four actresses Brunson beat last year are in the running this time. Both Christina Applegate (“Dead to Me”) and Rachel Brosnahan (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”) starred on series that concluded during the last eligibility period, while Natasha Lyonne (“Poker Face”) and Jenna Ortega (“Wednesday”) won’t continue in their roles soon enough to qualify.

It’s been six months since V of BTS released his solo project, Layover, and it turns out he wasn’t quite finished working on music. Despite the fact that V is in the midst of completing his mandatory period serving in the South Korean military, alongside his bandmates, the members of the BTS Army now have a new single, titled “Fri(End)S,” to enjoy from the perpetually jazz-inspired vocalist.
“Fri(End)S” is about the desire to take things to the next level with a romantic interest, and it’s accompanied by a music video that allows V to flex his acting skills to the silliest extremes. The all-English track does feel akin to the sound V developed on Layover, where he spent time with similarly mid-tempo, confessional arrangements.

BTS’s V, fresh off the release of his solo project, has shared his visit to South Korea’s Tiny Desk. Backed by a crew of stellar instrumentalists and vocalists, the jazz-loving member of the septet reimagined three cuts off of Layover. Watch the full episode below.
Filmed in Seoul, V enlisted a drummer, backup vocalists, a saxophone player, a keyboardist, and a handful of other players (most of whom flew in from the US) to round out the backing band of his dreams. They kicked things off with the album’s pre-release single, “Love Me Again,” and followed it up with an extra dreamy live arrangement of the focus track, Slow Dancing after V dedicated some time to introducing the members of the band. (“Slow Dancing” wisely then built in ample time for a saxophone solo.)

V slowed things down for the debut live performance of his recent single “Love Me Again,” an R&b and jazz-influenced record that appears on his full-length solo album Layover. Accompanied by four backing vocalists, the BTS member performed the song on a special episode of Naver’s Npop show, where he also delivered live renditions of “Rainy Days” and “Slow Dancing.”
Each performance was set against a unique backdrop, reflecting the song’s tone. For “Love Me Again,” the artist, born Kim Taehyung, stood among framed photographs in an orange-hued art gallery setting.

BTS’ V gets a little impatient in the first official teaser trailer for the forthcoming music video accompanying his solo single “Blue.” In the 23-second clip, the singer walks fervently down a hallway leading up to an apartment door. When he’s reached the unit he was searching for, he rings the bell and waits all of five seconds before he starts banging on the door. Whoever is on the other side, he’s adamant about seeing them.
“Blue” will appear on V’s upcoming debut solo album Layover, set for release on Sept.

The BTS vocalist mixes pop and R&b on the piano-driven track, in which he sings wistfully about mending a broken relationship. “Let me make up for all the time we lost,” he croons. “We can start again, open all the doors/ Don’t tell me it’s over, we can start it over.”
Directed by Shin Dongle, the music video captures a rare ordinary day in the life of the superstar musician. After dallying in bed, V wrangles up some food as his dog looks on and falls asleep with cartoons playing in the background. Overall, it’s pretty relatable stuff! Watch the clip below.

Seoul, Aug 11 (Ians) BTS singer V aka Kim Taehyung is now cutting onions and turning on the waterworks with the music video of his new single ‘Rainy Days’ from his debut solo album ‘Layover’. The track is an emotionally sombre piece that infuses traditional K-pop melodies with a more experimental touch.
The music video highlights the darker and emotional approach of the track as V is shown sitting at his home in a messy bed, looking all gloomy and depressed as he misses his partner.
The BTS singer then proceeds to sing about a glimmer of hope that he may yet get a call from his loved one who has left him as he looks on into the distance.

V of BTS has unveiled “Love Me Again,” the first single from his upcoming solo album, Layover. Watch the song’s accompanying music video below.
As one of the vocalists of the group, V is known for his rich lower register, and he has a particular penchant for jazz-inspired music. “Love Me Again,” a somewhat lo-fi track, allows V to slide into crooner mode once again.
To contrast the gentle nature of the song, V is decked out in a glam look, performing the track against the dramatic backdrop of a cave. “If you ever regret this, won’t you let me know?/ I’ll be honest with you, put it all out there/ I think you about you all the time,” he sings.
The six-track Layover is due out on September 8th.
V’s solo album will follow projects from BTS bandmates Jungkook, j-hope, Rm, Jimin, Suga, and Jin.
