If you go down to the woods today, you’re sure of a big surprise. A very big surprise. Two very big surprises.
Winnie-the-Pooh and Piglet are back on the big screen, but they are no longer the cuddly, innocent and lovable characters from your childhood. The pair are out for blood and revenge (and honey) in Director Rhys Frake-Waterfield’s Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey.
The friendship of Christopher Robin, Winnie-the-Pooh and the other characters of the 100 Acre Woods is explained in an animated prologue. It details that the animals were already seen as ‘cross-breeds’ or ‘abominations’ when young Christopher initially met them. However, he befriended the group and spent his formative years with them, this was until he left for college. The group, without the guidance of their human friend, had to endure a hard winter and address an even harder question: how to survive. They decided to eat one of their own,...

Spoiler Alert: This interview contains spoilers from “Scream VI,” now playing in theaters.
The casual horror fan probably noticed a few iconic masks and monsters in the “Scream VI” subway scene: There’s Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers, Pinhead and even modern staples like Florence Pugh’s flower dress from “Midsommar” and a group of tethered people from Jordan Peele’s “Us.” But costume designer Avery Plewes and directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett went to extra lengths to pack more than 50 Easter eggs, costumes and blink-and-you-miss-it references into the latest “Scream.”
Tracking down Ghostface in New York City, the “Scream VI” crew, consisting of Tara Carpenter (Jenna Ortega), Sam Carpenter (Melissa Barrera), Mindy Meeks-Martin (Jasmin Savoy Brown), Chad Meeks-Martin (Mason Gooding), Ethan Landry (Jack Champion) and Danny Brackett (Josh Segarra), pile into the subway to confront the latest masked killer. However, it’s Halloween time, which means the train car...

There are few names as synonymous with horror as Wes Craven's. This is the man who gifted us "A Nightmare on Elm Street," which gave us one of horror's all-time slasher villains in the form of Freddy Kreuger. He's also the man who, when it was all but dead, saved the slasher genre in remarkable fashion with the meta "Scream" in 1996. For as much as "Elm Street" was his calling card, it's easy to argue now that "Scream" is his greatest legacy. To that end, it's perhaps fitting that Craven's final movie (even if that wasn't the plan) was 2011's "Scream 4."

Welcome to the Ghostface Glossary, a guide to every horror reference and nod throughout the first five films of the Scream franchise.
After a lot of pausing, rewinding, and zooming in, as well as researching, we’re catching all of the many horror-specific references Williamson, Craven, and Co. included in this beloved postmodern slasher franchise. If we’ve forgotten any glaring ones, kindly let us know.
This guide will exclude homages from previous Scream films and their respective sequels— we’re only looking at outside horror franchises and inspirations, because any red-blooded Ghostface fan is likely already aware of those. (Goes without saying that the beloved faux franchise ‘Stab’(s) 1-8 will also not be counted, since, even though our neon green ‘Stab’ t-shirts and mock VHS tapes feel very real, it’s still a very fake franchise). If we’ve forgotten any glaring ones, kindly let us know.

At the start of Scream 6’s third act, our heroes board a subway train filled with costumed partygoers. While there are a few generic pirates and princesses, most are dressed as iconic horror characters: Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, and Michael Myers are there, as are Chucky, Pennywise, and the Grady sisters from The Shining. Heck, we even get a quick glance at Sam Neill’s reluctant Sutter Cane reader from In the Mouth of Madness. But, of course, nestled throughout the car are a couple of Ghostfaces riding the 1 Train downtown as well.
In nearly any other movie, these easter eggs would be annoying distractions. Instead of being caught up in the tension of the scene where the characters are desperately trying to figure out if these Ghostfaces are tacky fans or brazen serial killers, the audience is seeking out their favorite references. Growing up as the child of movie stars Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis, Jamie Lee Curtis learned early on the difference between real life and a photo op. When she launched her career as the 19-year-old breakout of John Carpenter’s 1978 “Halloween,” who made audiences care whether she got mauled by Michael Myers — and decades later, the new Jason Blum “Halloween” that put her back in the spotlight as a scream queen — Curtis didn’t get hung up on being taken seriously.
“I remember the first day on ‘Halloween 2018′ that I was working with the young actress Andi Matichak,” Curtis said on a Zoom call. “It was a very intense scene for her and she came in fully loaded. It was over the grief of her father, and it was deeply emotional work. People in horror movies deliver that level of intensity and emotion on the daily and they are...

The "Scream" franchise arguably stands head and shoulders over its competition. Get out of the way Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees, and Freddy Krueger, Ghostface is the reigning champ in the slasher genre. Since its inception in 1996, "Scream" has become a pillar in modern horror with six total films so far. And it's not likely to slow down anytime soon. The series works because of its deconstruction of horror, as well as its top-tier humor. It's funny when you least expect it, often bringing a bit of levity to an otherwise downright terrifying scenario. There's as much funny-bone tickling as there are amazing death scenes in "Scream." You can literally have your cake and eat it too.
From the very beginning, the writers have made sure the characters have personality, with quips always ready in their back pocket. The humor is never wasted and always hits the sweet spot. Whether that's...

The stunt world has lost a superstar. George P. Wilbur, the prolific stunt performer, coordinator, and double has died at the age of 81.
Film fans and critics seldom give stunt performers the love they deserve, but as "Once Upon A Time... in Hollywood" showed us, they're often the invisible pillars holding up entire productions. Without their high-octane mix of bravery and precise training, and with a generous dash of daredevil recklessness, we would never have gotten the death-defying, thrill-inducing, price-of-the-ticket justifying action that has made films like "Die Hard," "Escape From New York," and "Total Recall" such rewatchable classics. And Wilbur, whose resume was nearing a stunning 150 credits when he retired in 2013, did stunts on all of them.
Born at the height of the Second World War in Connecticut, in 1941, Wilbur would go on to enlist in the Navy before eventually finding his way to Tuscon, Arizona, where he worked...

Fans of the Halloween franchise received some sad news today, as it has been confirmed that stuntman George P. Wilbur – who played horror icon Michael Myers in both Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988) and Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (1995), the sixth entry in the series – has passed away at the age of 81.
Wilbur’s fellow Michael Myers performer Chris Durand, who played the character in 1998’s Halloween H20, broke the news of his passing on Facebook earlier today: “George P. Wilbur passed away last night. George, you were a class act and well loved. You will be missed. May you Rest in Peace.” Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers screenwriter Daniel Farrands reacted to the news by saying, “Very sad to hear of George’s passing. He was such a kind soul and a beloved member of the Halloween family.“

Bloody Disgusting has learned the sad news this afternoon that actor and stuntman George P. Wilbur has passed away at 81 years old.
A member of the Hollywood Stuntmen’s Hall of Fame, George P. Wilbur is most known to horror fans for playing Michael Myers in both Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers and Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers.
Wilbur is one of only a small handful of actors to play Michael Myers more than once.
He was also a stunt player on Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers.
George P. Wilbur’s career began with stand-in work for John Wayne in the 1960s, and he went on to amass over 100 television and film credits spanning six decades.

"Starring in a horror movie can't be that hard," you may think. You just run around screaming while being chased by a grown man in a Halloween costume, right? Not so fast. Starring in a horror movie tests your mettle. The budgets are usually cheap, you're paid in pizza, and the demands are more than most movie stars making six figures would endure. However, many actors — especially young actors — think it's totally worth it. Why? Because there are few emotions more pure and primal than fear. If you can make a connection with an audience in a horror movie, it can make you a star. If you're already a star, it can make you an icon.
Hollywood history is filled with numerous actors who became movie stars by starring in horror flicks. Some were complete unknowns who became cult icons or horror household names, while others were well-known actors whose...

The slasher film. Across several decades, one of the most dominating sub-genres in the entire horror sphere. From the beginning days of the formative slashers in the 1970s, all the way to today’s reboots, sequels, and fresh originals. From classic icons such as Michael Myers to modern killers like Mia Goth’s Pearl. The slasher truly lives forever, proving it’s always in fashion.
One of the most unique slashers is a movie that just celebrated its 40th anniversary. A movie that spawned a series of films written and directed entirely by women, a rarity in the genre.
That movie? The Slumber Party Massacre.
Released in 1982, The Slumber Party Massacre started life as an on-the-nose horror movie that would essentially be a send-up of genre tropes. This original screenplay was titled Sleepless Nights and was authored by famed feminist writer Rita Mae Brown as a parody of the often dominated slasher film genre,...

After pitting a knife-wielding Jennifer Lopez and a submachine gun-armed Jennifer Coolidge against a pack of wedding-crashing pirates in the rom-com/action mashup "Shotgun Wedding" (you can read our review of the film here), Prime Video is slowing things down a little in February. That month will see the release of the second and final season of the streamer's fantasy neo-noir series "Carnival Row," which is dropping nearly three and a half years after the first season launched in August 2019, in case you find yourself wondering (much like /Film's Valerie Ettenhofer), "Wait, so I didn't imagine the show where Orlando Bloom solves crimes and hooks up with pixie Cara Delevingne?" No, no you did not, but hey, at least now it has a proper ending!
In the absence of too many major new releases beyond that, Prime Video and Freevee viewers might want to spend February catching one of the...

Freddy Krueger. Jason Voorhees. Michael Myers. Let's be real: Besides the main baddie and maybe the damsel in distress, most horror film franchises don't have many memorable characters. That's kind of the point, right? The other characters are just there to get hacked to smithereens by the charismatic killer until he or she "dies" (only to show up in sequels once the box office receipts are tabulated).
"Evil Dead" is different. The face of the series isn't a psychopathic slasher, but a smart-alecky doofus with a boomstick in one hand and a chainsaw for another. But while Ash Williams, Bruce Campbell's dimwitted dude-in-distress, is a household name among horror fans, he's not the only great character in the "Evil Dead" franchise. A master of mixing the madcap with the macabre, "Evil Dead" creator Sam Raimi filled his signature series with an eclectic assortment of memorable characters. I'm going to...

When you're wrong and know it, you have to stand in your wrongness.
So, I will stand proudly and admit that I was wrong in my review of Big Sky Season 3 Episode 11 because Buck Is Michael Myers. Getting hit upside the head with a mallet multiple times and not only surviving but kidnapping people is something straight out of Halloween 27.
Buck's survival and that insane shootout were only a few of the twists and turns Big Sky Season 3 Episode 12 had to offer. This was a penultimate feast.
Big Sky does this thing where it makes you want to rip your hair out one second and then leaves you wide-eyed and not breathing the next.
And in an hour like this, you have to start at the end and work your way back.
We all knew we were leading to something happening to Emily because the foreshadowing was all over the place.

John Carpenter has nothing left to prove.
The writer-director hasn’t made a movie in 13 years, and yet he’s asked about his work incessantly by reporters, fans and fellow filmmakers. And now, here I am, asking again.
Sitting in a comfy-looking chair in the living room of his Los Angeles home, he’s got cable news running on a TV just out of sight, and sometimes, when a question doesn’t strike his fancy, his answer will carry on, while his eyes dart toward the flickering box. “It was a Western they wanted to make. I was unsure about what I would do with it. … God, Iran just hung a protester, man.”
The occasion of this conversation is his upcoming 75th birthday, Jan. 16, which also marks nearly 50 years since the release of his first movie, the USC student-film-turned-feature “Dark Star.” Since then, Carpenter’s subversive genre films have inspired decades of knockoffs,...

Just when you thought Rob Zombie’s The Munsters would be the most divisive movie of the year, Halloween Ends came along to dominate the discourse. Given the contentious reaction among fans, I was eager to hear the audio commentary that accompanies the film on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD – which is now available online and at all major retailers.
Here are 10 things I learned from the track, which features director/co-writer David Gordon Green, actors Andi Matichak and Rohan Campbell, co-producer/first assistant director Atilla Salih Yücer, and production assistant (a rarity in special features!) Hugo Garza.
1. Green wanted to pay homage to John Carpenter’s body of work

What in the children of the corn just happened?
With only three episodes left this season, Big Sky Season 3 Episode 11 leads us into the home stretch and delivers an hour that is nuts but so enjoyable that I don't even know where to start.
Do we start with Beau turning a hotel hallway into the O.K. Corral in all his cowboy glory? Or do we go with the cornhole game from hell? Both are solid starting points for the insanity that was this hour.
All jokes aside, to discuss this hour, you really have to start with all the Buck stuff because he may be the Bleeding Heart Killer, and he may be dead, and there's just a lot to unpack there.
Buck always presented as a decent guy in the beginning, but as time went on, his sinister side showed more and more to the point where he's...

Originally previewed at Toy Fair last year, Trick or Treat Studios has just launched pre-orders on the first figures in their new “Scream Greats” line: the Killer Klowns from Outer Space!
Three different Killer Klowns toys are now available for pre-order, each one selling for 34.99. You have your choice between Fatso, Shorty and Slim – or you can just grab them all!
“We were looking to create a line that was reminiscent of the late 90s – early 2000s action figures, when they were expertly sculpted and the articulation was limited to keep from breaking up the design too much,” Trick or Treat Studios said last year about the 8″ toy line.
The Killer Klowns toys are expected to begin shipping in August 2023, and they’ll soon be joined in the line by Candyman, Pumpkinhead, Farmer Vincent, and Michael Myers.
You can pre-order the Klowns over on the Trick or Treat Studios website now!

We’ve talked before about how the introduction of Scream into the horror world changed everything. It was an Elvis, Beatles, Nirvana moment for the genre. Why, though? It’s the Millennium! Motives are incidental! No really, it’s because Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson gave us something that could be fun and frightening at the same time, and in equal measure.
And Ghostface is truly the gift that keeps on giving, with Scream 6 arriving in 2023.
Let’s take a look at the more sinister side of Scream and the moments that were dark and twisted enough to keep you scared while you were laughing and enjoying the movie references.
Scream (1996) – Opening Scene
Possibly the greatest opening scene in a horror movie of all time and one of the best overall horror scenes ever. The reason it was scary though? At the time we were all so accustomed to...

They’re two of the most infamous, championed, and bloodiest American slasher movies of their era. Not only that, but they’re also the most franchisable, with a total of 25(!) entries, including originals, sequels, reboots, and remakes between the two of them. That’s, like, a lot of hacked-up horny teenagers.
The original 1978 Halloween from John Carpenter along with the initial Friday the 13th film have stood the test of time as bonafide slashers that are essential to any Halloween horror marathon. The films are complete with two iconic villains in the form of Michael Myers and Jason Voorhees (kind of), a house full of kills, and unsettling music that’ll make your spine tingle — or channel the world’s most spiteful mother.
But only one of these films will make it out alive! So let’s go trick or treating in Haddonfield and take a dip at Camp Crystal...

A lot of moments that didn’t make it into the theatrical cut of director David Gordon Green’s Halloween Ends were used to promote the film, with one of the most prominent examples being images that showed an extended version of the attack on the character Joan, Corey’s mom, who was played by Joanne Baron. Now that Halloween Ends is available on both digital and physical media, we decided to share the extended scene clip that shows the full attack on Joan.
At least this scene made it into the special features. The extended cut of the death of Susan the radio receptionist is nowhere to be found.
Green, who was also at the helm of Halloween 2018 and Halloween Kills, directed Halloween Ends from a screenplay he wrote with Danny McBride, Paul Brad Logan, and Chris Bernier. The film has the following synopsis:

Fans of the Shudder series The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs were happy to see Diana Prince, also known as Darcy the Mail Girl, show up in director David Gordon Green’s Halloween Ends (read our review Here and discuss whether or not you think the movie is underrated Here) as the radio receptionist Susan – but were also disappointed that her death scene didn’t make it into the final cut of the film. We only see the aftermath. Prince initially thought the deleted death scene would end up on the physical media release of the film… but now that she has received confirmation that it’s not on there, she shared some footage that gives a behind-the-scenes look at the excised murder.
I now know officially that my death scene won’t be included anywhere, but you can see a lil of the BTS from it here… #HalloweenEnds pic.

Last year, Fright Rags got their “Stop the Killer” series of board games started with a board game inspired by the 1984 killer Santa classic Silent Night, Deadly Night (watch it Here). That was followed by a board game inspired by another classic slasher, the 1981 film My Bloody Valentine (watch it Here). And now Fright Rags has announced that they’ll be staying in 1981 for their third “film to board game” Stop the Killer project, which will be based on Halloween II (watch that Here)!
Details on the Halloween II board game are being kept under wraps for now. All Fright Rags has revealed is the cover art, which can be seen at the bottom of this article. But it’s probably safe to assume that the Halloween II game will be along the same lines as the other two games in the Stop the Killer series, which were created with...

Well Schmoes, as 2022 finally draws to a close we reflect on a year unlike any other in our lifetimes. We finally got back to a pretty normal theatrical schedule from the studios, but streaming still had a lot t offer as well. If there is one thing for sure, there are always movies that are highly overrated and underrated by critics and fans alike. As the UnPopular Opinion Guy, I felt it was only fitting to issue my list of the movies I felt that the masses got wrong. Some of these may shock you and some may just piss you off, but these are my honest-to-goodness perspective of the movies of 2022. If you disagree with any of the choices, please voice your own opinion in the comments below. After all, the only opinion that really matters is yours, and I am just here to share mine.

2022 has been an outrageously good year for horror cinema.
The variety, complexity and volume of horror movies released this year is truly staggering; a true embarrassment of blood-soaked riches. The crop so impressive that it was tough to leave off a few really great movies (like “The Menu” or David Cronenberg’s guttural “Crimes of the Future”).
But for now, here are 15 great horror movies from this year (and where you can currently watch them). These movies are so good you’ll want to scream.
15. “Nanny” Prime Video
Talk about a dynamite debut feature. “Nanny,” from first timer Nikyatu Jusu, centers on a Senegalese immigrant (the terrific Anna Diop) who goes to work as a nanny for a wealthy Upper East Side couple. (She’s trying to pay for her son to immigrate to America.) Once embedded in these peoples’ lives (the feisty wife is played by Michelle Monaghan) her...

This year brought the return of Ghostface, Predator, Pinhead, Michael Myers, and Leatherface. Beyond the franchises, 2022 unleashed an onslaught of new releases that introduced new voices and horror icons to the genre. The indie scene continued to thrive, but horror surprised audiences at the box office more than once.
In other words, horror continues to dominate while it stretches its boundaries and flexes its creative muscles. The best horror movies of 2022 induced thrills, chills, delightfully gory kills, and even a few tears. If there’s one thing this past year made clear, it’s that horror-loving audiences are ready for a return to crowd-pleasing, fun horror that doesn’t skimp on scares.
Because it was such a strong year for horror, here are the top 15 best horror movies of 2022.

We love movies, we love the holidays, and we love contests. So this holiday week, we are combining all three by teaming up with Universal Studios.
In 1978, John Carpenter and Debra Hill released the first “Halloween” movie. Centered around Michael Myers, the film focuses on his escape from an asylum and the killing spree he goes on. Earlier today, Paramount released a teaser trailer and a poster for Scream 6, which is set to reach theatres on March 10, 2023. Now Entertainment Weekly has unveiled a new image from the film, and it confirms that Ghostface will be sporting a slightly new look in the latest sequel! This look was hinted at on the poster, but this image shows that the different look for the mask wasn’t just a stylistic choice made for the marketing materials. It is in the movie.
Set in New York City, Scream 6 was actually filmed in Montreal. Directed by Scream 2022 directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett from a screenplay by Scream 2022 writers James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick, this one will show us what happens when

Horror has a new "It Girl," and her name is M3GAN. The upcoming killer AI doll movie from horror juggernauts Blumhouse Productions and James Wan's Atomic Monster Productions doesn't hit theaters until 2023, but horror fans across the globe can't get enough of her.
"M3GAN," short for Model-3 Generative Android, is a life-like doll programmed to be "a child's greatest companion and a parent's greatest ally." Created by a talented toy company roboticist named Gemma (Allison Williams), the beta prototype of M3GAN is put to the test when Gemma is unexpectedly thrown into the role of a parental figure for her niece Cady (Violet McGraw) after her parents tragically die in a car accident. M3GAN was developed with the primary goal of protecting its primary user from emotional and physical harm, but when she becomes self-aware and overprotective of Cady, she'll stop at nothing to remove any obstacles that threaten her directive.

When did the first Halloween movie come out? It’s been more than forty years since we first saw Michael Myers attempt to take the life of Laurie Strode while she babysat two small kids. An additional twelve Halloween films have been made in the forty years since the first movie came out. Each one has its own storyline, and not all of them are in order. The only character they have in common is Michael Myers himself. There are different stories, and things don’t match if you try to make a timeline of movies. Even Jamie Lee Curtis, who plays

Jennifer Lawrence Gets Reminded That No, ‘The Hunger Games’ Wasn’t the First Female-Led Action Movie
Jennifer Lawrence invited pushback on social media today after stating in an interview between herself and Viola Davis that Katniss Everdeen was essentially the first female action hero.
While the conversation with fellow actress Viola Davis covers a number of subjects, the excerpt Variety chose to excerpt was of the “Winter’s Bone” and “Causeway” star stating that “I remember doing ‘Hunger Games,’ nobody ever put a woman in the lead of an action movie before.”
That provably incorrect statement unleashed a deluge of online pushback, with responders throwing out various examples of big action movies with female leads. Variety eventually took down the offending tweet, a rare move in a media ecosystem that sometimes prioritizes outrage-driven engagement.

Emmich died Monday at his Valley Village home in Los Angeles after a long battle with lung cancer, his rep Steve Stevens told The Hollywood Reporter.
In perhaps his most well-known role, Emmich played the driver Chicago, who steered the Cadillac sedan with Rip Torn‘s hard-living honky tonk singer Maury Dann in the backseat, in Payday (1973).
In Michael Cimino‘s Thunderbolt and Lightfoot (1974), Emmich portrayed the Western Union security guard with a porn fetish who is attracted to the long-legged, dress-wearing Jeff Bridges. Welcome back, dear readers! We’ve nearly made it through another week and December is (quite literally) just right around the corner. And since the holiday season is pretty much upon us, we’re back with another installment of our annual Holiday Gift Guide. For today, I’m celebrating a handful of books that I have either had the chance to check out this year and fell in love with, or several titles that I’m confident genre fans will love that I just haven’t had a chance to check out yet for myself.

And also, just so everything is on the up-and-up, I want to mention that I did include my own latest book in today’s edition of the Hgg just because the artists featured in this second volume of Monsters, Makeup...

The Grinch's blood-red Santa Claus coat isn't the only splash of crimson that'll be decking the halls this holiday season. Inspired by Dr. Seuss's classic children's story, the hairy green villain is making a killer comeback in XYZ Films' new parody horror movie.
"The Mean One" - which got its title from the song "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch," originally performed by Thurl Ravenscroft in the 1966 animated TV special "How the Grinch Stole Christmas!" - reimagines the story of the infamous Grinch by sucking out all the childood whimsy and replacing it with a gruesome storyline that results in piles of blood-stained snow.
If Dr. Seuss's original Grinch was as cuddly as a cactus and as charming as an eel, it sounds like director Steven Lamorte's The Mean One (David Howard Thornton) is someone Cindy You-Know-Who (Krystle Martin) might need to fight off with a 39-and-a-half-foot pole.

Before Jamie Lee Curtis could have fun making out with a “bunch of different men” while filming A Fish Called Wanda, she had one small request for her co-stars.
Curtis led the 1988 crime comedy as the title character Wanda, a grifter who takes part in a diamond heist with a group of gangsters. In an attempt to gather intel on the prized gems, she seduces lawyer Archie (John Cleese).

“It was fun,” Curtis said of the experience, adding that she bought all her co-stars “toothbrushes on opening day”.
“You know, because it’s gross! You’re just gonna be making out with all these strange people. So I asked them to go brush their teeth,” she explained.
