It’s all (mostly) quiet on the North Eastern front at the minute: Sunderland are seemingly giving up on their chance to sign Fabio Borini on loan having agreed to bring in his fellow Liverpool flop Sebastian Coates on loan instead, and Newcastle continue their trend of doing very little on a deadline day.
But, there might be some stirrings to give David Craig something to actually talk about – rather than reporting on unnamed agents running out of petrol and stealing the thunder of other reporters to announce deals elsewhere in the country.
According to Nufc.com, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa is apparently en route to Rome for a medical with As Roma, ahead of joining the Serie A side on loan for the remainder of the season. That seems to suggest that Newcastle have another centre-back lined up – given that there would only be three...

Here's Adam Armstrong and me on the series finale of True Blood. My comments after Adam's -Nathaniel
One thing you should know about me: I am a pro-rationalizer. I don’t enjoy disliking things, especially when it comes to movies and TV shows. So many people, so much hard work, so on and so forth. Take for example, this one time, on the way home from seeing the third Paranormal Activity movie. I was so invested in the series I went to every midnight showing. I loved them. And then that movie played its final 20 mins, and it was fucking garbage. It was the American Horror Story: Coven of movies before Coven was even around.* Seriously, was Ryan Murphy a creative consultant for the ending of that movie? But, still, on that ride home, ridden with disappointment and rage, I clung to one aspect of the movie I liked...

Adam Armstrong is like our own TV grim reaper counting down to "True Blood"'s True Death. Only one episode to go before it's all over for the fang-bangers! Adam has dispensed with narrative tissue and is just train-of-thoughting it now in the homestretch... I'll join Adam next week for the series wrap. - Nathaniel
Episode 7.8 "Almost Home"
I’m done. I’m done. I’m done. You know, in the beginning of the episode, while Bill was pouring his unbeating heart out to Sookie, I thought to myself, I’m tired of hating Bill. It’s become too exhausting. Look at him, his voice cracking and all. Okay, I can get behind him and Sookie ending up together. Even if it’s just easier and requires less strain on my brain than remembering why I hate him.
And Then The Episode Ended The Way It Did.
I hate him again!

Newcastle United have just announced their squad numbers for the coming season, and there are a couple of revelations that stick out from the updated list. First and foremost, Hatem Ben Arfa has lost his number 10 shirt to incoming attacking midfielder Siem De Jong, confirming not only that the player will likely take up a starting position behind a lone central striker, but also that Ben Arfa is probably on his way out.
It’s no great surprise that Ben Arfa has ben shifted down the pecking order – taking up Mathieu Debuchy’s vacant number 26 shirt – given the continued rumours that he is on the verge of being shifted out of the door, but it is somewhat strange that the player has been given a number at all. Precedent has suggested that such obviously unwanted players would be given no squad number at all – as Rob Lee...

Apologies for my radio silence yesterday. Off my game I was for the entire day plus which means I'm know 36 hours behind on writing projects. Hooray. Nevertheless, because Emmy nominations are still very much on my mind after the initial response and the main titles detour (oh don't pretend you aren't still thinking about them) I polled a few members of Team Experience about their feelings. And here's what they had to say on four questions. Answer them yourself in the comments, too. The more the merrier.
What's the Nomination That Most Perplexes You?
Adam Armstrong: Kristen Wiig – The Spoils of Babylon. When I read her name among the nominees, I was like:
...Pure, unadulterated, ecstatic, confused bliss.
Andrew Kendall: So many options, but it's impossible for me to let Christina Hendricks in Mad Men just pass - for so many reasons. Everyone loves Joan and Hendricks is one...

Women's History Month continues with Adam Armstrong on Laura Dern in "Recount"
Katherine Harris and Laura Dern as Katherine Harris
Born: Katherine Harris clawed her way into this world on April 5th, 1957 and, presumably, crawled to her mother’s boudoir to try her first crack at putting on lipstick and dabbling in the different shades of foundation. Rose to prominence as Florida’s Secretary of State during the 2000 election.
Death (in politics): Still kicking, albeit no longer Florida’s Secretary of State. After a failed 2006 senate election run, she still combats jokes regarding her unfairly ridiculed makeup techniques during the 2000 election recount fiasco.
In the 2008 HBO film Recount, we are introduced to Harris when she is awoken, startled, at 3:52 a.m. by a phone call on the night of the election. She groggily answers the phone while the voice on the other end heatedly asks who the winner...

Our countdown continues with new contributor Adam Armstrong on six-time nominee Alfonso Cuarón
Y tu mama tambíen
There comes a point in everybody’s lives when the awareness of their own mortality becomes apparent. For myself, it came when I was walking to class on a particularly snowy morning and saw a bus slam into a conveniently placed guardrail on a bridge. Snow related accidents are common enough but what happened next is not -- a man in an oversized Santa Claus costume exited the bus, choosing that moment in his life to dabble in the art of traffic enforcement, directing the chaotic traffic away from his fellow passengers as they escaped to a shabby Dunkin Donuts across the street.
Life is a fragile thing and few directors understand this as well as Alfonso Cuarón.

Newcastle United u18s 4-0 Sunderland u18s
Date: Monday 20th January
Competition: Fa Youth Cup
Venue: St James’ Park
Newcastle under 18′s progressed to the last 16 of the Fa Youth Cup having seen off their Sunderland counterparts at St James’ Park with an impressive 4-0 win, with a huge contribution from local striker Jonathyn Quinn, as he scored a hat-trick in front of three thousand Geordie fans.
The Magpies were perhaps the better side in the first half, and they left it late to take a deserved lead. Jamaican winger Rolando Aarons forced his way past the Black Cats’ defence on the left flank and assisted Quinn in the six yard box, who slipped it past Sunderland’s Polish goalkeeper Maksymilian Stryjek to make it 1-0 a minute before the break.
Newcastle’s and Quinn’s tally was doubled ten minutes into the second half...

Here's a great piece of fan-made poster art for one of my favorite films of all time... Rob Reiner's adaptation of Stephen King's Stand By Me. It was created by Adam Armstrong, and as soon as I came across it I put on the movie. It's actually been awhile since I've seen it. If for some crazy reason you haven't seen this film yet, please watch it as soon as you can!
