Super Smash Bros. was recently released on the 3Ds (and soon the WiiU as well) much to the delight of fans of the fun beat 'em up, but what if that world was combined with that of The Avengers? James Farr has created a very fun new video - "Nintendo's mightiest heroes must assemble to defeat the galaxy's puniest god, and recapture the legendary power of ... the NESeract!" as he describes it - which sees some iconic Nintendo characters take on the roles of the cast of Joss Whedon's movie - Luigi as the Hulk! - and it's well worth a watch. ...

You're going to love this! This is an insanely fun animated web short called Super Smash Wars: A Link To The Hope. It comes from director James Farr, who calls it a “Star Wars / Nintendo-verse Mashup,” and it mixes together music, characters, and tropes from several popular Nintendo games such as The Legend of Zelda and Super Mario Bros. He then threw them all together in a Star Wars mix of awesomeness. If you think it sounds cool, just wait until you watch the video!

There are certain combinations that are simply made for each other and we just don't know it. Until someone, in this case, animator James Farr, makes that all important (and supremely obvious, but only after the fact) connection for us.
Like, say, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles crossed with the Mario Bros. Okay, they both involved turtles, but how would that work exactly? After all, aren't the turtles that Mario usually deals with evil?
And that's precisely why "Teenage Mutant Ninja Koopas" is so brilliant.
The following, which was first posted on Kotaku is simply all kinds of awesome:
It's the little touches, like Zero Suit Samus as the Statue of Liberty, holding a gold Nes cartridge, or the Mousers painted like Yoshis, that truly sells the whole thing.
Some of you might be familiar with Farr's work; he's the who who did that "Ghostbusters" X "Super Mario Bros" cross...

Check out this great grindhouse style Minecraft and Shaft fan film written and directed by James Farr of Steelhouse Digital for Machinima. The story follows "detective John Mineshaft and his crime fighting dog, Whitey, as they pursue the thieves of precious, mysterious pearls."
What happens when iconic "blaxploitation" films character Shaft is dropped in the middle of the Minecraft universe? You get the hilarious animated film parody, Mineshaft.Following the success of Fallout: Nuka Break - Red Star, Minecraft is another fan favorite in the vast Machinima network, with more than 80 videos that have garnered more than one million views and still achieve 5k views per month. However, there has never been a Minecraft video like this one. While the vast majority of Minecraft videos are demonstrations of techniques or displays of impressive builds, Mineshaft combines familiar Minecraft terminology/lore in the completely unique "Blaxplotation" world of Shaft, complete with appropriate references and insider jokes.

Who is the man, who'd risk his voxel neck for his brother man? Mineshaft!
The animated fan film premieres today on Machinima, and you can check it out after the jump.
Of course his dog is named "Whitey."
The short sees the brick-like private dick investigating jewel thefts in world of "Minecraft." Written by "Pac-Man: The Movie" director James Farr, it's the latest from advertising and production studio SteelHouse Digital. You might pick up on some of the details SteelHouse added in to get the 70's aesthetic down, from the digitally-inserted grain on the titles to the fake scratches in the "print" to the oversaturated colors.
One thing: Mineshaft the character isn't really trying to capture to the iconic cool of Richard Roundtree's blaxploitation classic character--Farr and company seem to have been going for a more general tough-talking black character from the 70's (think a more chatty Jim Brown).

Writer/director James Farr and crew have made a short film based on the '80s Namco video game "Pac-Man" giving the power pellet-eating yellow orb something of a Tron-esque makeover. The gist of the short is that the government created Pac-Man (aka the Polymorphic Autonomous Compound Manipulator) as a means for cleaning up waste such as oil spills and reactor leaks, but "he prefers cherries." You can watch the 6:35 minute short directly below and learn more about it at right here. The cast includes Chera Kimiko, Jason Yang, Gloria Patton, Eric Barber and James Farr.

What the hell is Project Yellow Sphere, you may be asking yourself. Damned if we know. But we do have a brief trailer and the link to a website that says all the info will be released on April 1st, 2012.
So what can we do? We'll wait for Sunday to see what kind of government-induced nastiness will be inflicted in Project Yellow Sphere, what we are assuming is a short film from Xombie creator, animator and director James Farr. But we can't be too sure about anything these days.

We got word today that a pretty interesting addition has been made to the "Monsterverse Horror Comics Ate My Brain" panel being held at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, July 22nd: Werewolf screenwriter Michael Tabb.
Werewolf, you may recall, is the new stand-alone film from Universal that was originally slated to be a sequel to its less than warmly received The Wolfman from 2010. Maybe we'll finally get some clarification as to the exact nature of the upcoming film to be directed by Louis Morneau (reboot, redux, sequel, or what) during the panel.
As for his Monsterverse connection, Tabb will be writing a sinister nod to "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" for an upcoming issue of Monsterverse's acclaimed Bela Lugosi's Tales from the Grave horror anthology comic book series.
Prior to the addition of Michael Tabb, here are the Monsterverse panel details:

Back in the days when I was a young, fledgling horror fan, magazines and comics about my beloved genre were not nearly as readily available as they are today. At a time when Forry Ackerman’s Famous Monsters of Filmland ruled the roost and Fangoria was just a glimmer in the eye of some ad executive, we “Monster Kids” got our genre updates the old fashioned (and highly unreliable) way - via word of mouth.
As the years have clicked by and with the introduction of the Internet, being a fan has gotten a whole lot easier, still many of us look back on those early days of horror fandom with more than a little bit of nostalgia.
Luckily, those who have been missing the days of their youth, can rejoice with the introduction of Monsterverse, an imprint of genre-related titles such as Bela Lugosi’s Tales From The Grave...

Xombie is just like a zombie but with an "x" instead of a "z". Did you figure that out already?
It's been a while since any news has cropped up about Xombie, the Dreamworks adaptation of the Devil's Due comic Xombie created by James Farr which was based on the animated series. Star Trek screenwriters Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman are producing the movie and spoke to Bloody-Disgusting at the Saturn Awards. Here's what they had to say.
We have set our targets on a writer who we really like who’s got a great take on it, and that’s a matter of going in and pitching it over to our friends at the studio and having them pay the guy," said the producing team. "If you read the comic, there is something unique about it terms of the fact that the zombie in a sense is a protagonist in it.

During their recent panel at WonderCon entitled "Halo-8: Comic Books and Illustrated Films," Halo-8 reps announced their next original comic book/illustrated film transmedia combo will be Matt Pizzolo's The Long Knives, "a giallo horror, bare-knuckled revenge movie with an otherworldly Tim Burton-esque aesthetic." The artwork will be courtesy of newcomer illustrator Ana Ludeshka.
"I wanted to do a gritty realism horror with a dark-hearted toughness like the first Mad Max, which totally kicked me in the nuts when I first saw it as a kid," explained Pizzolo, "but I didn't want the over-the-top visuals to fall into torture porn so it seemed like an awesome fit to do this in a giallo style and tie in the stylized horror of my faves Mario Bava and Dario Argento. Ana Ludeshka's ethereal visuals and extreme use of color are a perfect fit, and I was super excited to discover her for this.

The much-awaited "Zombieland" hits theaters today, and while there isn't a direct connection to comics, we're no less excited to see the flick. Zombies are becoming the new vampire.
DreamWorks is set to adapt Xombies, the hit web cartoon/comic written by James Farr. Revolving around a thoughtful zombie named Dirge, our heroic member of the undead protects a little girl from the deadly rampages of Zombies. The studio is looking to nab Star Trek writers Alex Kurtzman and Robert Oci to produce, with an adapted script from Will Beall.
Xombie’s first story was released as a Flash-based cartoon with a five-part comic miniseries published by Devil’s Due.
Zombies have always had a proud place in American cinema (and Swedish! Check out Dead Snow for details) and viewers can get another whiff of rotting bodies with the upcoming black comedy Zombieland.

Vampires aren't the only creatures flooding the market right now—zombies are making an equally strong push in films like the upcoming "Zombieland" and "Survival of the Dead." Soon, an all-new property with comic book roots might be joining that flesh-hungry pantheon.
The Hollywood Reporter writes that an adaptation of "Xombie," the Devil's Due Publishing comic book and flash animated series from creator James Farr, could be heading to the big screen courtesy of DreamWorks, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci -- the producer pair behind the upcoming "Cowboys and Aliens"—with a screenplay by cop-turned-writer Will Beall.
"Xombie" takes place in a world where most of humanity has been replaced by walking, flesh-eating corpses. The story focuses on Dirge, one of few zombies that retains his memories from his human life. Dirge comes upon Zoe, a young human survivor, and swears to protect and reunite her with the remainder of humanity.

We've seen a feature where zombies are pets, and one where they're used as cheap labor. Now Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci may be casting one of the undead as a cop, as they're negotiating a buy of the comic book / animated web series Xombie for Dreamworks. THR reports the deal, which came about through a pitch by cop turned writer Will Beall. The writer already has a deal to adapt his own novel L.A. Rex, about a human cop, for Scott Rudin. But he'd like to adapt James Farr's Xombie story, which is about "a zombie cop named Dirge who attempts to saves humanity’s remnants, particularly a young girl named Zoe, from evil zombies." The story was born as a flash series, but has since become a graphic novel, Dead on Arrival, which recounts the same story as the web series, and a comic series called Reanimated.

Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are right up their with their pal J.J. Abrams when it comes to taking on a gajillion projects, only about half of which ever seem likely to get made. Though since the duo is becoming more prolific as a producing team, I have high hopes for Xombie, a story about a zombie policeman from a screenwriter policeman, Will Beall. Xombie apparently has a complex origin story that THR only vaguely explains, starting with an online animated series by James Farr that eventually turned into a Devil's Due comic book. But the movie will only be based on Beall's pitch, given that DreamWorks has picked up the pitch but not the source material (yet). Also, they're keeping the plot under wraps, even though the whole thing has already existed as a comic book. See, I told you it was confusing. THR also tries to claim ...

It seemed as if the current vampire craze that started with the phenomenal success of Twilight would result in zombies being supplanted as the monster-of-choice in American cinemas. But the necrotic shamblers are making a comeback. First, Quarantine (2008) offered up a frightfully possible real-world explanation for zombies, while next month's Zombieland takes a more light-hearted approach. Now, it appears as if Dreamworks is hoping to get in on some zombie action, as well.

Looks like after a bit of a bad spell zombies are once again gaining momentum in Tinsel Town, catching up with the vampires who have been ruling the proverbial cinematic roost. Screenwriters Alex Kurtzman and Robert Orci along with Dreamworks aim to get their hands on Xombie. The material originated from a Flash animated series created by James Farr which blossomed into several issues of comics. The story revolves around a monster named Dirge who protects a little girl so she can reunite with her family. The series gained internet cult status starting in 2003 when the animated series first made its wave online, expanding now to a negotiable movie deal.
Kurtzman and Orci are both in talks to produce with Will Beall penning the script. Beall is currently writing the novel adaptation of his own book La Rex. The dynamic duo which is Kurtzman and Orci currently are working on the script of Jon Farveau’s Cowboys and Aliens along with producing it.

I've been feeling lately like we have a ton of zombie films slowly lumbering their way toward us, unrelenting and thirsty for box office cash. The next slobbering, brain-bashed entry in this series of attacks may be a big screen adaptation for Xombie. Based off a comic that was based off of a Flash animation web series, The Hollywood Reporter is claiming the Dreamworks is close to securing rights for it and having Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman produce the flick. If you haven't heard of it, I suggest you start from the beginning (aka Chapter One of the series). The story follows a young girl named Zoe and the protective cop named Dirge that seeks to protect her from the constant oncoming hordes of zombies. The clever difference here? Dirge is also a zombie. I think it's really cool that a creation that began as Flash is now making its way into a feature film. James Farr...

Hot off the heels of all the Cowboys and Aliens news, writers and producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci have announced yet another comic book adaptation. DreamWorks is in negotiations to buy Xombie, a pitch about a zombie who is also a policeman based on a Devil’s Due comic book written by James Farr. The screenplay was pitched and written by a "cop-turned-scribe" named Will Beall, with Kurtzman and Orci in talks to produce (and not necessarily write). Beall is a former beat cop and anti-gang policeman in the 77th Division who recently became a homicide detective; he continues to serve in the Lapd while writing. Xombie connects back to an original online animated series that James Farr created. You can still check that out at: Xombified.com. Zombies have been all the crazy lately. Fast, funny, and now...misspelled.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, DreamWorks is in negotiations to buy 'Xombie', about a cop who is also a re-animated cadaver. The original pitch came from Will Beall, a cop-turned-screenwriter, and is based on a comic book and online animated series of the same name.
Created by James Farr, the series takes place after a zombie plague has wiped out most of humanity. Dirge, a former policeman and "variant" who retains his pre-zombie consciousness, protects a young girl named Zoe from swarms of the roaming undead. Looking to do one last good deed before his body rots away, Dirge takes it upon himself to reunite Zoe with mankind’s last remnants.

Wow, zombies sure are popular, huh? Who knew being undead would ever become a trendy thing in Hollywood. The latest resurrected popular kid might be Dirge, a zombie cop name “Xombie” and the star of a comic book that’s based on an online comic strip by James Farr. According to THR, Dreamworks and “Transformers” and “Star Trek” guys Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are currently in negotiations to bring Farr’s “Xombie” to the big screen. So what’s it all about? Farr’s official site explains it thusly: Dirge is an undead man with a mind of his own, who struggles to find the meaning of unlife – all the while fighting to protect human lives from evil zombies! Good zombie cops battling evil zombies. Now I’ve seen everything. What’s next, zombies based on a Jane Austen novel? Don’t be ridiculous.

Halo-8 Entertainment is kicking copious amounts of ass when it comes to the innovative animation technique known as "illustrated filmmaking", and upon completion of their recently announced upcoming Loaded Bible project, they will next be producing the horror/sci-fi adventure Xombie: Reanimated created by James Farr.
If the name Xombie sounds familiar, it's because this project marks the second collaboration between Halo-8 and Farr after Xombie: Dead on Arrival (DVD reviewed here) was released by the studio in March. Award-winning director Matt Pizzolo and Emmy-winning producer Brian Giberson have scheduled the new film for production in early 2010 with a theatrical release planned for later in the year.
Xombie is the story of Dirge, a dead man with a mind of his own, who struggles against his posthumous cravings (not to mention legions of the living dead). In Dead on Arrival (comic reviewed here), Dirge struggles to reunite a lost child named Zoe with her family.
